Mail mixes up messages from senders

Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I've had problems with Mail. I resolved the issue regarding the disappearance of all my mail on my laptop but am now puzzled with Mail mixing-up messages from senders. For example, I click on the "from" category for a vendor/friend, and get the mail (e.g., subject/content) from a different vendor/friend. In other words, I might click on mail sent from PETCO and mail from my insurance company appears in the body of the e-mail. Any suggestions?

  • Mail mixes up messages

    Hi,
Since a couple of days osX mail app mixes up my messages from different inboxes.
The sender and subject of these messages are not the same.
For example. Yesterday I send a message with subject "ssh access VPS" to person x. And when I select this conversation I'm seeing mail from even 2009 and from a totally other inbox/e-mailaddress.
I tried to rebuild my inbox but this didn't help. When I Go to Gmail in my browser, everything is fine.
edit: This happens with messages in my @gmail inbox. The messages are mixed up with a self hosted mail address.
Does anyone know whats going on and knows how to fix this?

  • Yosemite - Mail grouping unrelated messages from same sender

Since upgrading to Yosemite, mail is grouping messages (I have it set to group by conversation) by sender rather than by conversation.  So now I have three different subjects lines all grouped together in a hodgepodge that is frustrating to sort through.  I tried ungrouping, which separated them all, and regrouping and the problem still persists.  I have restarted and still no luck.  Anyone else having this issue?  Any 'cures'?

I am having the same problem.  Have just sent an email to Apple.
"I am experiencing issues with message grouping within Apple Mail since upgrading to OS X Yosemite (10.10).
Email messages are being grouped incorrectly from different threads and are being confused/merged into one. The messages are from different senders, with different subjects, and different dates.  Nothing that I can see that would cause mail to merge them together.  It is a huge problem because some of the emails don’t even show up as being in this chain, and I have just accidentally found them.
I need to know 1.  How to keep this from happening, and 2. how to separate the ones that have already gotten linked.
This issue is being reported on multiple message board and requires immediate attention.
    Please advise."

  • How to set up Gmail as IMAP in Mail without downloading messages from 2007?

I was fine with Gmail on Apple Mail on my Macbook Pro using POP, but in order to best sync with my newly acquired iPhone I changed it to IMAP. Now it's proceeding to download all 7000+ messages from by Gmail Inbox from 2007. Is there no way to limit Apple Mail to the most recent 30 days of Gmail?
My last resort would be to delete most of my messages in Gmail, but there's not even a filter for that, and I'd prefer not having to do so.

This is not an Apple Mail problem, but the nature of IMAP, if in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced you select to Keep copies of All messages, or Keep copies of All messages and their attachments for Offline viewing. Also, from your browser interface with Gmail you can choose to exclude the All Mail folder.

  • Mac Mail deleted inbox messages from yahoo mail, how to get them back?

I recently started using the Mac Mail client with my yahoo-plus email account.
What Mac Mail did was delete ALL inbox messages from my yahoo account, after one week from importing them to Mac Mail.
The inbox messages can still be found in the Mac Mail inbox, but not in yahoo's inbox.
I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve these deleted messages back to my yahoo inbox.
Also, I was wondering about the sync feature on the Mac Mail and what will actually happen if I use it. Does it apply to mail messages, or to address book and calendar entries?
I would appreciate you help on this issue.

The Yahoo server did exactly what you Mail program told it to do.
Mail/Preferences/Account/Advanced - This setting is adjustable for each mail account.
I didn't know about this feature until it was too late. I have already unchecked it for future emails.
I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve these deleted messages back to my yahoo inbox.
Not Really, you could forward them to your account, after you've told your mail program not to delete the emails at all, but they will show up as being from you instead of the original sender. The originals at Yahoo have been dumped and probably purged. It would take an IT manager at Yahoo to manually replace the emails, not much chance of that.
I've already asked yahoo to "restore" my inbox to a day ago. That should help me with retrieving some of the messages back, I hope.
Also, I was wondering about the sync feature on the Mac Mail and what will actually happen if I use it. Does it apply to mail messages, or to address book and calendar entries?
The sync feature refers to IMAP email accounts like .Mac or .Me or an Imap gmail account. I didn't think Yahoo offered IMAP email accounts.
Apple's MobileMe membership will let you sync your Mail, AddressBook, Calender, personal website with iWeb, etc.
"MobileMe is a service that pushes new email, contacts, and calendar events over the air to all your devices. So your iPhone, Mac, and PC stay in perfect sync."
    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/
I wanted to use Mac Mail, see if I liked it or not, then decide to get a MobileMe account. However, this is still a side note, since my yahoo account is my main email client.
You seem to be very well informed, and I was wondering if I can ask you to clarify a point for me. Do you know how to archive the inbox in the Mac Mail?
And thank you for answering my queries.

  • Mail stalls receiving messages from Mail Delivery System MAILER-DAEMON

I changed ISP to prevent this occuring, yet it still occurs with new ISP.
When there's a post of this kind in on the server, Mail stalls while downloading and I then need to forve quite mail, go online, remove the message from the server, then launch mail, <Opt-X> to destroy the mail, reapeatedly ( as it tried to hang around) then download again, successfully.
Why does this happen, and how can I prevent it in future?
    cheers
    peter

Apple's mail software is is quite poorly implemented. It tends to hog your machine's resources. I don't think there is anything you can do other than use another mail client or wait for Apple to provide a decent implementation of a mail client.

  • How to make Mail stop marking messages from my Contacts as Junk?

I use Mail to access both my Gmail and Mac mail. Mail has begun marking as Junk messages from my Contacts, including VIPs. In Preferences, I have checked the boxes to have Contacts and Previous Recipients exempt from email filtering, yet they still sometimes end up marked as Junk and sent to the Junk folder. These are all Gmail messages: I use my iCloud account very little. I've unchecked the Trust junk mail headers... and Filter junk mail before applying my rules. I don't see how to make Mail leave my Gmail alone! Can anyone help?

Google recommends turning off Apple mail Junk filters if using gmail filters.

  • Apple mail not uploading messages from server

i've got a weird problem - about a week ago, my apple mail program stopped uploading messages to one of my emails accounts. i've been getting messages to that account, and when i right click on the account, apple mail shows me that i have like 100 + unread messages on my pop server, but for some reason, it isn't uploading the messages so that i can access them.
i've spent nearly 2 hours troubleshooting. i even deleted the whole account and made it again, and it did the same thing. this makes me think there is something with my email host or something.
    any ideas?

When you say “uploading” you actually mean “downloading”, right?
Sometimes messages left on the server clog up the account there, or Mail chokes on a message it cannot download and that prevents it from downloading the rest as well. Solving this problem will probably require deleting one or more messages from the server. What are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings for this account?
You may tell Mail to remove from the server all the messages that have already been downloaded doing Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove now. Alternatively, you may use the Account Info window to remove specific messages from the server. And if the account allows web access, you may also remove messages from the server that way.
Try first removing from the server messages that have already been downloaded. If that doesn’t work, you’ll probably have to delete the first message not downloaded yet. You may want to try to download those messages with another mail client such as Thunderbird first, to avoid losing them -- and use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to import them back into Mail afterwards if you wish.

  • Mac Mail Always Removing Messages from Hotmail

I have a Hotmail account that dates back to 2005 and I have recently bought a new Macbook Pro and Mountain Lion. It took about 2 days to download all my messages into Mail.
The problem is that my Mail started to get delayed coming through and then stop occasionaly with a Port 995 error.
If I check the activity window I can see the potential problem but I don't know how to solve it:
The activity window says 'Fetching new mail' and underneath this it says 'Removing message x of 43,583' (x being the message number being removed)
I use my laptop pretty much all day, but somewhere along the line the process restarts and so it never finishes to remove the messages and this is obviously holding up the server.
Would anyone have a solution to this?
    Thanks

Having monitored the situation, it appears to be a software issue. There is in infinite loop with removing messages from the server. I found it completes the removal and then begins again holding up the server.
Every time it completes the 'removal' my new messages are downloaded. After this the 'removal process' beings again in the activity window!

  • Possible solution for Mail not downloading messages from IMAP

People have, including me, experienced a rather strange behavior of Mail.app.
On our iMac, Mail would stop retrieving messages from an IMAP account after a while, even though it's set to check every minute and "synchronize automatically" is enabled. Hitting the "get mail" button, doesn't make a difference. I know there were new messages, since they showed up on my own PB, which is connected to the same IMAP account. Once Mail is restarted on the iMac, a dozen new messages are coming in and everything's working fine for the next few hours. Reinstalling the account on the iMac didn't have any effect.
    So my theory is:
I've set the iMac energy settings to "allow the hard drive to sleep when possible". I guess Mail isn't capable of spinning it up again and freezes to a certain degree, requiring a restart in order check for new emails.
I'm just testing this with the energy options disabled.

Hey - I'm having somewhat similar problems. The settings are all correct, but most of the time the mail simply fails to download: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1762675&tstart=0

  • Mail:Cannot erase messages from Deleted Messages folder located on my mac

    Hi,
I recently ran a script to discover that I have hundreds of thousands of messages sitting in the Deleted Messages folder located on my mac. I tried to erase them but no luck, no error messages of any kind but the messages are still there. Can anyone help with me with this as these unwanted messages are taking up a lot of space. I have run a disk verify just to check permissions etc and all is ok.
    Many thanks

    Hi,
Many thanks for you reply. Yes it looked like the deleted messages from an old exchange account I had had were sitting in a folder on my mac and this was visible in the sidebar. However it was not simply called deleted messages it was named deleted messages (xxx xxx) where xxx xxxx was the name of the old mailbox. So when I went to mailbox to erase deleted messages this folder was not picked up. So I moved everything in the folder to the trash folder (took a long time) and then selected the option to erase trash on quitting. It took hours and hours when I quit mail but I left it running overnight and now the folder is empty and mail is functioning ok. Thanks again for your help

  • Mail Wont receive messages from Admin on Exchange

I use Mail with an Exchange server and it works fairly well except it wont receive messages from the "System Administrator", like when I send a bounced email. I would have no idea I was getting these messages except I keep Entourage just for this reason.
Anybody have any idea why these emails don't show up? I checked in junk mail and trash to see if they are getting moved for some reason but there is no sign of them anywhere.
    Thanks for any help,

First step, assuming you have all of your email account written down, go to Settings > Mail and delete your account. Then from Settings > Mail reenter the account information...paying attention to have the incoming set for POP or IMAP according to the email service you get. Enter all of the incoming and outgoing server information...id's, passwords.
Try the first account and see if all is working after doing that, then go to other accounts if you have any.

  • Sent box mixed up - messages from a year ago 'sent' yesterday

My sent box seems corrupted - I have had this before on another mac. My sent box has messages from last year dated as being sent yesterday. I have tried 'rebuild' but nothing seems to happen. I am not aware of any viruses, all the messages appear to be genuine ones i wrote but some time in the past and not yesterday.
My IMac sent box is ok but Macbook is the troublesome one, any ideas?
    thanks

    check your system clock/date/time.
If the CMOS battery is weak/failing, the date/time will begin slipping backwards.

  • Mail mixing up messages

Today my mail app started acting up in a bad way.
I'm retrieving mail via IMAP (everyone.net).
All of a sudden many of the new emails I get are getting mixed up with old emails.
For example, in split view mode, I can see the new messages, who they're from, and the subject. When I click on the message, the body is not the correctly associated email. It shows body from a message I received back in December.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Mac mail automatically deletes messages from two weeks prior

I'm using Mac Mail on 10.6.8 - snow leopard. I use this program for my work emails and mail will automatically delete messages in my Inbox that are two weeks old. The email account is IMAP. I have looked in the "Account Preferences/ Advanced" and can not find a setting to correct this. What am I missing?

Are you sure it's Mail that's doing this? It could be on the other end (the server end).
Mac Mail has a preference for "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message", but there's no choice for 2 weeks, so I doubt that's it.
