Mail:  New Message Count Doesn't Show

I'm using Lion.
One of my account inboxes (but not all) does not show the new message count.  All of my accounts use Gmail IMAP.  The Badge shows up in the Dock, but inside of Mail, that account does not indicate that there is new mail.
Suggestions?

Thanks to MaxB who helped me, and may help you:
I completely forgot about this post. I was able to resolve the issue when I went into my email account settings and changed my user name from just XYZ to [email protected] and when I saved the changes the count instantly updated after a restart of Mail.
I hope this works for you too.

  • Disabling certain mail accounts from "new message count" in Mail dock icon

    Hi,
I'd like to disable two of my mail accounts from affecting the new message count that appears over mail's dock icon. How might I do this?
    Thanks in advace

the only option you have is to choose between all mailboxes and inbox, in mail>preferences>general
other than that, you may want to look at plugins such as dockstar to do more customization of the notification features: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/dockstar/
    hope this helps

  • Turning off new message indicator AND the new message count

    Greetings,
Is it possible to turn off both the new message indicator (red asterix) and the new message count?
I would like no message indicators to appear on my blackberry home screen.
Thanks ever so much for your help.

I guess I didn't read close enough.  I don't think you can turn off the red asterisk.  It's going to show up on the icon no matter what.
As for the text messages, I'm not sure the setting for not showing message count indicator applies for text messges.  In fact, if you have OS 5, it most likely doesn't as sms is handled much differently.
You can turn off sounds and the red led in Profiles (or Sounds in OS 5)
You're basically wanting to disabl everything the phone was designed to do.

  • HT1386 how do I sync manually, with new update it doesn't show option?

How do I sync manually, with new update it doesn't show the option?

    For iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync you device>Setup syncing
    Sync your device manually
If you use manual syncing, you can sync items from more than one iTunes library to your iPod. (You can sync iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad with only one iTunes library.)
You can manually sync music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and iTunes U lessons. You can’t manually sync photos and info (contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and so on).
Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer and select your device.
Click the Summary button and select “Manually manage music and videos” (below Options).
Click the On This Device button.
Click Add To on the right side of the iTunes window.
Drag items from the left side of the iTunes window to the pane on the right. To add other types of content, choose a category from the Library pop-up menu.
    Click Done.
If you use automatic syncing, you can also add items to your device by dragging. To drag items to an automatically synced device, follow the instructions above, but skip step 2.
The picture from the iTunes Help do not display.

I am experiencing the same thing.  It was working and showing the exact count as my OS X Lion Mail.  However, since the 5.0.1 update, it no longer shows anything or even provides push notifications.

  • Flagged Messages Mailbox Doesn't Show in iOS 6

A touted new feature in Mail.app for iOS 6 is the Flagged Messages mailbox, but it doesn't show for me although I'm using only a standard iCloud account. That is, the only e-mail account on my device is iCloud. The also-new VIP mailbox shows... Just not the Flagged Messages mailbox. I can't find a setting on the iOS devices, my Mac (running Mountain Lion) or on the iCloud website to enable the Flagged Messages mailbox.
    What have I done wrong?

After talking to level two support to no avail....seems I have found a glich? Or maybe it's just the way it works.
1st you MUST have an email flagged.....second the flagged message must be in the general mailbox it arrived in, NOT moved to another folder within that mailbox.  Works for me...Discovered this while on indefinite hold, lol.....

  • Using OS 10.5.8, Apple Mail, new message symbol appears but not the mail

Using OS10.5.8, apple mail, it shows I have a new message but when I go to that mailbox there is no message. Then when a new message comes in, the first hidden message is now gone. What happened to it, was it really there in the first place?

    Hello, as a test...
Make a new Smart Mailbox that only includes Unread Mails, do they show in that Smartbox?
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • New message button doesn't work

    Hi,
I have rebuild my friends drive with Disk Warrior and now, the Mail software doesn't work well. I cannot create a new message. I tried the "new" button, the "new message" menu in the "File" menu. I even tried to create a new mail by using a link on a web site via Safari. I erased the com.apple.mail preference and the Mail folder in my library. I tried with a new account. Nothing works. The system is a G5 with Tiger 10.4.8.
I think the problem is the framework.
Does anyone have an idea to fix this? Can I reinstall over it? How? With the original disk (10.4.6)?
    Thanx in advance!

    Hi BlaKCroW.
What does “I tried with a new account” mean? Are you talking about a user account or about a mail account, i.e. have you checked whether the problem is system-wide? Try this:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. Try to reproduce the problem and look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.
In the meanwhile, take a look at the following article, in case this is a font issue:

  • Unread VIP messages counter on iCloud shows wrong numbers

    Hi,
I have VIP inboxes set up. They appear on my Mac, iPhone and iCloud.com. The unread VIP messages counter on my Mac and iPhone are showing the correct numbers of unread VIP messages. However, the counter on iCloud shows wrong numbers.
Does anymore have the same experience?
I deleted the VIP inbox on iCloud.com and re-created it. Then the issue was solved. Some days later, however, it started counting wrongly again.
    Example:
Peter is a VIP for me.
    1. I receive 2 messages from Peter, so the unread VIP messages counter on my Mac, iPhone and iCloud.com raises to 2.
    2. I read both messages
    3. The unread VIP messages counter on my iPhone and Mac vanished, and so does the general unread mail counter.
    4. On iCloud.com, my general unread mail counter would also be 0 but the VIP unread mail counter would still be 2. The VIP inbox does not show any unread email, tough.
    Best regards,
    Marc

I've reported this error twice via Apple's iCloud feedback page on the website - http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html
No solution as yet... but an earlier VIP bug (where, if the same contact sometimes sends as "@mac.com" and sometimes "@me.com", they had to have separate VIP mailboxes) was fixed. (At least, I think it was fixed: if you put all the relevant addresses against the same single contact in iCloud and delete any other instances of the contact with the same address, then iCloud creates one amalgamated VIP inbox for them. But I digress.)
The mis-count bug has been around since the day VIP appeared - hopefully getting a bit embarrassing for someone on the iCloud team? Maybe someone at Apple reading this?

  • Mail, new message: customize fields

In Mail, when starting a new message, I've once chosen to customize the visible fields. I made visible the SMTP server.
But now I don't want to see that field any more. So, I've unchecked the box before the SMTP server field. However, this field stays visible. While other unchecked fields remove from view, this field will stay in view. It doesn't matter if the box is checked or not.
How can I remove this field from view? Or is this a bug?

This has got to be a bug. The smtp server field just appeared one day, without my ever checking it, and it will not go away. Checked or unchecked, as you say, it just sits there, taking up space. We should report this to the feedback group: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html/

  • Mail - New Message command stalls application

In the last week, attempts to create a "New Message" in Mail result in the POD (Pinwheel Of Death). This state will usually go on for 1 or 2 minutes. It also occurs if "Reply" or "Forward" is selected.
Sometimes I can avoid it by clicking on the command by using the File->New Message or Message->Reply (or Forward), but not always.
I have repaired permissions, & used TechTool Pro 4 to test file structures & test & repair finder info.
Could this possibly be a corrupt preference file? If not, does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello Bill.
To rule out a Mail.app preference file problem, do the following:
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folder(s) and mailboxes at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
If this doesn't resolve it, are you using any 3rd party Mail.app plugins or bundles?
If not, I'm not sure what is causing the problem. I'm running 10.4.3 and I haven't experienced the same.

  • Mail unread message counts inaccurate

I just bought a new computer with Lion installed.  The unread message count in the dock and with the mailboxes in mail is wildely inaccurate.  My older computer is running Snow Lion and its count is completely accurate.  For instance Snow Leopard may say 12 unread messages and Lion will say 1.

Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Folder new message count not updating?

On the web version of iCloud Mail the INBOX new message bubble is updating properly. However, secondary folders are not. Given that I use RULES to automatically send certain messages to secondary folders it is important that the new message bubble appears and updates for all folders. This is how it used to be. Has this feature been discontinued or is it a bug?

    Jason,
    What screengrab?
What type of account do you have -- POP, IMAP or .mac? How many accounts do you have? Do you access your account from more than one computer?
Unread message count where -- on the Mail Icon in the Dock or in individual mailboxes? In the Dock, the Unread message count will NOT reflect any messages moved to custom mailboxes by Rules, but only those in the Inboxes.
    Ernie
