Mail no longer connects to my accounts

After working fine for a while, Mail no longer sends or receives to all of my e-mail accounts (iCloud, Gmail and IMAP). I can connect to all through safari, no problems.
The generic error message is "Connection timed out on port XXX".
I have tried :
turning offline and back on again, no success.
deleting the hidden .offlinecache folder in the user profile library, no success.
deleting and adding the accounts, no success.
The Console retrieves an error of "[IADomainCache init]: IA domains cache is out of date." which may be relevant ??
The only applications that I have installed recently are MongoDB and Weka (both of which are working fine).
Can anyone point me to a possible resolution?
Thanks
Steve

Hi
I get a green connection status and "Mail was able to connect to the internet".
Each of the mail accounts show a red status with the following error message :
"Could not connect with this IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account preferences."
As I said in the first post, the current settings worked fine in the past.
It does seem to be a network issue with Mail, even though there is a green light. Last night I took the mac home and everything worked fine on that network. However, when in the office everything else seems to be OK except for Mail (eg the browsers function fine) and all other computers on the same network have no problems (including their mail clients connecting through to the same accounts).
Any ideas now?

I have an IMAC, Mountain Lion. Each time I open my mail, a message box appears with the message Mail can't connect to the account "Google", followed by Enter the password for the user   *****@gmail.com. The full account that appears is an account that I had previously deleted. I cannot prevent the message box from appearing. What do I have to tweak in order for this annoying box to keep reappearing. I have deleted everything I know of in Google mail and my IMAC mail. Thanks for any feedback

From the Mail menu bar, select
    Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Look for the unwanted SMTP (outgoing mail) account in the window that opens. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. The unwanted one will be selected. Click the minus-sign button to delete it, then click OK.
If there's more than one unwanted account, repeat.

If your password is accepted, and Mail connects to the account, but you're prompted for the password repeatedly, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Note: these steps don't apply if the server rejects the password. That's a different problem.
    Step 1
When prompted for the password, check the box marked Remember this password in my keychain.
    Step 2
Check that the keychain is working.
    Step 3
Check that the default keychain is unlocked.

  • Mail App no longer connecting with Hotmail accounts

I have had my hotmail accounts connected to my Mail app on my iMac for years, no problem. As of yesterday the Mail App wil no longer connect with any of my hotmail accounts. It is connecting with my gmail accounts.
The error message I get is: "UNable to receive Mail: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “EKRDL” or try again. The server returned the error: The server “pop3.live.com” refused to allow a connection on port 995"
Hep anyone? What is happening here?

    You're welcome.
How the heck did you figure that one out?!
I didn't, actually. Someone else in this forum (and probably other people in other forums as well), figured it out by looking at the changes introduced by the Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update, and checking his/her own settings accordingly:

  • Mail no longer connecting to receive email

I recently updated my iMac at work to 10.6.6 & now have an issue with Mail.
For security, I do not store my passwords for my 2 accounts. Each day when I start Mail, I am asked for the password of each account. Now this no longer happens! The passwords have NOT been stored, but the dialogs do not appear. Connection Doctor shows that both accounts are not connecting, although it DOES show that both SMTP servers are connecting. I tried Repairing Permissions, even though I do that as part of my updating SOP. Once the repair was done, Mail did ask for both passwords, and was able to retrieve email from only 1 account. A short while later, the connection to that account was failing once again. I even tried storing the passwords for each account in the Accounts Prefs, but this did nothing.

Mail is doing the same thing to me. I'm on my MacBook and have been using Mail for years. Lately (last 6 months or so) it has been having problems with various going offline, always asking for the password for various accounts and so on. I did an update today for Snow Leopard (which may or may not be pertinent) and now none of the accounts (all bellsouth) will go online. I click "take accounts online" in the drop down menu and in the pop-up box, but it doesn't seem to have any impact. I've closed and reopened the program, which has helped in the past and even restarted the whole computer. Nothing. I've seen where others have had problems with similar issues with something like this and the only answer anyone gets is, "it's a Mail thing." I like Mail, love the "bounce" feature, would rather not change, but the whole point of email is actually being able to receive it.
    Any thoughts or advice?

  • Mail no longer connects to Exchange Server

    Hi,
    I recently upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5.
After the update everything was working fine, including Mail. It was talking to my Exchange server as it should.
But I had to dabble. While I was previously connecting using IMAP I noticed the Exchange server option in Mail so I decided to give it a go thinking it might enable some more of Exchange's features.
However, Mail will not connect to the Exchange server. Even trying to switch back to IMAP doesn't work. It just won't connect.
I KNOW the settings are correct and I have other machines here that are working fine (using the Exchange account option in Mail - I set them up last week, no problem).
I have enabled logging in Mail and it appears that the Exchange server is refusing my username or password - both of which are certainly correct.
Using identical settings (albeit with IMAP) in Thunderbird is no problem.
Any ideas on this? It's driving me nuts and I really want to go back to using Mail rather than Thunderbird.
    Many thanks in advance.

I have just replaced an ailing emac running 10.3.9 so to get all my emails transfered, i imported them . I had by this time set up my old accounts affresh .now the old ones fight with the new and try to change the out going smtp server settings I can recieve on all accounts but only send out on one and that is after one and a half days plus a trip back to the dealership-still not right .And somehow it insists on sending my other email accounts through only the one main server which sort of works but changes each time you log in. The computer no longer recognises email addresses sent from my old folders - a serious pain when you have to look up each and every address in old folders.
When you go into the advanced settings the option none is not there but on one occassion all the options changed. Looking at this forum I think giving my emac the kiss of life might have been a better business proposition. As to your problem some info the guy at the store deleted in the key chain info. helped but not sure how he got there

  • Mail crashes when connecting to IMAP accounts

    Hi all,
I have mail set up to check 5 different accounts. One is a POP account and 4 are IMAP accounts (2 gmail, 2 other mail providers).
Initially I had no problems at all with this setup. Mail had mirrored all 4 IMAP accounts and was downloading new messages without a problem. One day, however, something went awry and every time I took one of my Gmail accounts online, Mail would crash. I figured I'd leave that account offline and keep checking that gmail account the regular way.
This worked for a while. More recently though Mail has started crashing when any of my IMAP accounts are taken online. If I leave the 4 IMAP accounts offline and only the POP account online, it does not crash.
Here is what I've tried so far:
    Repair permissions/disk.
Erase and Install Tiger (up to 10.4.11)
Moving .mbox files to the desktop and letting mail download the inboxes again (not ideal, the largest inbox is 800MB and a gmail one)
Removing the accounts and starting from scratch.
Nothing seemed to change a thing, Mail now crashes on startup if the IMAP accounts are online (if I take that Mailbox offline, Mail works fine).
I checked the crash reports (which I have been reporting to Apple like crazy, not that they seem to have noticed), and it always seems to be Thread 0 that crashes. Here are the last two crashed Thread 0s:

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have no idea whether this will help or if it's even what resolved my same recent imap problems that involved primarily *GMAIL imaps*, but it seems to be helping.
First, make sure all imap accounts are dragged up to the very top of the inbox/accounts list: *imaps above pops*
(Any IMAP accounts that have multiple folders should be at the top of the imaps).
Second, go into Mail > preference > accounts > [ each imap account ] > Advanced Tab
Above the box for the Port is *_IMAP Path Prefix_:* Type in INBOX
(reminder: If it's gmail, make sure your port is 993 and Use SSL is checked.)
Hope this helps. so far this is what seems to have helped w/mine (i have other problems such as zero results in my smart mailboxes--they no longer work).
I also have a different imap account not google/gmail and I don't use INBOX in the path prefix on that one and it has always worked just fine; the problems started with gmail imaps.
i'll be interested to know if it helps anyone else.
(Note: I manually synchronize the gmail IMAP accounts because having the auto synch box checked also seems to cause problems but your experience may vary)
    cheers!
now if anyone can tell me why after all these years apple has not fixed the lookupd / dns / network bugs that result in this (among other similar failures)

  • Mail unable to connect to Exchange account in Macbook

I have an Exchange Account for my work email and calendar. I recently had to change the password and as I updated the login information in my iPhone (IOS 7) and Macbook (OSX) I have found that the Mail app in the iPhone connects to the Account just fine... The Mail app in my macbook however is unable to connect (using the exact same login information).
The password has many special characters, could this be the issue?

    Hey Oscar,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your Mail account in OS X. The following resource provides some great troubleshooting information. You can also try deleting and re-adding the account from System Preferences or Mail Preferences:

  • How can I stop message coming up at login stating "Mail can't connect to Google account Blue Yonder?

When my mac powers on, the Safari icon jumps up and down until I open it and the above message comes up. I can log in to my blue yonder account via virgin media website(my provider)  I'm not bothered if mail can't connect to it but would like to stop this as it's a bit annoying every time . Doesn't help that I'm not very techie!

Shelannie, uninstall your mail account from your mac and reinstall it - this has worked for me

  • Mail app not connecting to gmail account

    Hi
So I have 2 gmail accounts where our company domain uses gmail for its email service. Mail was working fine on both the accounts till last week.
I had configured both the gmail accounts very easily by just selecting Google on the Mail App on my Macbook Air 7 months back. I just added my email id and my password and the Mail App automatically configured both my accounts.
Last week one of the gmail accounts stopped updating on the Mail app on the Macbook. I was recieving mails on my iPad and iPhone so I knew there was something wrong. The second gmail account was working just fine. I tried various things but that account refused to work. So I deleted that account and tried adding that account back. I could not add that gmail account this time round and kept giving me an invalid username password error or some account not valid error. I go to the online version of Gmail and login with exactly the same information.
Then to probe more I delete the working gmail account and try to add it again. That account also does not seem to be adding now. Same error as the first account. So now I cannot access both my gmail accounts on the mail client.
I just realized that I updated to OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 on 28th Feb and am pretty sure that all this has happened immediately after that.
Anybody else with similar issues? Any ideas on what I should be doing?
    Cheers
