Mail not arriving or long delays

This is a strange one I can't explain!
I am manually† migrating from a 2011 Mac Mini - to a 2010 i7 iMac - and have set up identical* mail accounts - however the i7 seems to have problems getting email from my Yahoo account (imap) in a timely manner.  There may even be emails that don't arrive at all in the Mail program - but certainly *SOME* (no rhyme or reason) emails do not arrive for hours, and in some cases a day or more.  By "some", I mean one or some emails may come through immediately, but other time adjacent ones might not.  Sender makes no difference AFAIK.
† (Manually Migrating = Reinstalling every program by hand, and copied user files - no migration assistant)
* (Identical = Every possible setting in Mail preferences - exact same OSX version - exact same Mail version - check for new messages every 5 minutes - junk prefs etc.)
As compared directly and in close proximity with - (All of which arrive quickly and reliably)
On the same i7 iMac -
Yahoo Messenger
Thunderbird
Checking the mail via website
On the 2011 Mac Mini -
Mail  (original/former main Mail program)
On Other Devices -
iPad 2
Android Phone
It's a bit disconcerting to see emails arrive correctly on all my other boxes and not see it come in (or arrive unacceptably late) on my target "new" desktop.
I like Apple Mail, but can't keep using it as it stands if it's going to be slow or unreliable.
Hoping for ideas - or suggestions on another Mail program (free).  I downloaded Thunderbird just because of this issue, but it's UI is way too PC like for me.... Although it's setup is easier and it has more features than Apple Mail - I'd prefer something a little slicker.

The only place I see the missing messages is on my iMac in mail. I use iCloud for mail on both my iPad and iPhone and I do look at it on iCloud.com.

  • Instead of "Mailbox busy", Mail asks for password, long delay

We're testing Mail as a replacement for Eudora at my place of work. There is a POP account (not .mac) that is checked by five people. Using Eudora 6.x, if one person was checking the account, anybody else trying to check would get a Mailbox Busy message. Using Mail, you'd get an alert symbol next to the mailbox in the mailbox list, but next time mail was checked and the mailbox wasn't busy, it would work fine.
We just switched to a new mail server yesterday (on a Vereo host?) and now, though Eudora is behaving as before if the account is busy, Mail will pop up a box saying the password wasn't recognized, asking for the correct password, and then there's a loooong delay while it times out.
I presume the new server is sending some kind of busy message that Mail interprets incorrectly, but it's a show-stopper for us. Currently our options are:
    1. Stop using a shared mailbox (my personal preference, but the actual users might not go for it)
    2. Find out from the provider why the new server is causing this behavior (fat chance--they're likely to blame it on our weird Apple software)
    3. Find out how to make Mail interpret the busy signal correctly.
    4. Forward the account's mail to all the users' own addresses, instead of having them check that account themselves (am doing this now, will see how it works out. It will require more storage space on the server, at a minimum.)
I'm trying to find out if the server supports IMAP but in any case that would not be a workable solution for us.
Any feedback or enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

"More Like this" entry " Phantom Mail Account won't let go! Steven Shmerler SASNET Design, New York  Oct 10, 2011 7:56 PM" gave me a clue, which after 15 minutes without annoying message, seems to work.
Went to Mail Preferences/ Accounts/ Account Information/ Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)/ Edit SMTP Server List...
There were four (count them, 4) references to Earthlink. I deleted them, restarted Mail, and so far so good.

  • PDF attachments from Mail not arriving in Outlook on PC

Using 10.6.7, with Font Update, sending with Mail, via Exchange Server 2007.
When attaching PDFs to emails, the attachments aren't being delivered properly in Outlook 2010 on a PC, using same Exchange Server. They are coming through in Outllook for Mac 2011 ok.
You can see the paper clip icon in Outlook 2010, but not attachment is seen in the email when opened. Word, Excel & JPGS etc are coming through ok.
Obvioulsy compressing the PDF works ok, but would like to know the reason for this issue.
    Any help, gratefully received.
    Thanks
    Neil

In case anyone has similar issues, I've found the cause.
Basically... It's to do with the way Mail encodes attachments as "inline" If you have version2 Rollup3 of Exchange2007, which uses MAPI to send the email to Outlook, which can't render the attachment as it wasn't created the way Outlook expects it to have been.......!

  • ICloud verification e-mail not arriving

Hello. I received an e-mail informing me that my Apple ID password had changed for some reason this morning, so I changed my password.  When I've done this in the past I've re-entered the new password into iCloud and had no problems, but today I needed to verify my e-mail address.  The thing is, I've not gotten a mail.  Even when I've resent a verification mail via the Apple ID management page.  I think I may go into my local apple store tomorrow, but has any one got any ideas barring calling apple support?
    Thanks in advance.

problem solved. I don't know why the verification mail went into my spam folder when all other mails go to my inbox.  anyway, I seem to have lost all my contacts for some reason. I'd recommend paper back up of contacts numbers and e-mail addresses to anyone!

  • Sent mail not arriving.

I have been having a problem when sending mail from my ipad. I have sent messages to a colleague with a googlemail account and they don't arrive, but if I send the same message from my imac or iphone to the same address it does. Everything on my system is synced through mobile me so the address is correct. Anybody any thoughts? I have no problem when I send mail to myself from the ipad to double check that mobile me is working.
    Thanks
    Allen.

    Hi Allen,
If it is a new iPad, or you don't have a lot on it, the easiest approach may be to restore to factory settings, then re-enter network info and email account info. Or, delete the email account and then re-enter the info.
Still, it should let you edit the account information.
When you initially setup the machine, did you do a sync from another machine?
Curious how it got that email account information.
I haven't allowed mine to do a full sync with iTunes, much prefer to enter WiFi and email information manually.

  • Non-Spam mail not arriving to Mac account

    Hi
I need to send a mailing to a large number of signed up users via PHP. I am checking the mailing with gmail, hotmail, yahoo, and other accounts and there is no problem - but the mail is not being delivered to my mac.com address.
I ran the text of the mail through Spam Assassin just in case, and the only discrepancy I had was between server sent time and client receipt time.
Does anybody know of any rules in the mac.com or Mail application which would be preventing this mail being delivered? Is there, perhaps, a test system I can check the mail against so that I can understand why it would fail Mac rules?

    SPF added, functions OK now

  • Not working properly , long delays on sys pref , audio midi set up

The only thing i did recently was update to 10.6.6 and install adobe design suite cs5 ( so not much lol)
i first thought this was a log in programme so i deleted all start up items then creted a new account with admin authority but still the problem persists.
when starting my mac ( Nov 2008 ) once finder has loaded i click system preferences and the spinning ball appears for 2/3 mins before i can access and use the computer. same for audio midi set up.
as i said i have tried a new account and the problem still persists.
I have had a dodgy fire wire cable recently that has been force ejecting hd's but i have found and replaced , this problem is since 10.6.6 and adobe design collection

Redo the installation, omitting the COMBO, make a bootable backup of it, boot from the install disc, select the disk, repair it, and then one at a time, download the delta updates, examining the behavior until you can pinpoint what's causing the slowdowns. See

  • Long delay between send button and actual send in mail

When sending messages in mail, there is a long delay between the time I hit the send button and the actual sending begins.  Message and attachment size have no bearing.  The delay is usually about 30 seconds, but sometimes longer.

There was info in the detail window when I opened it.  Also, it was not immediately connecting to the server, but when I clicked back on the regular mail window to send a test message, the server connected instantly.  Below is all that was in the details window:

  • Long delay when sending non-btinternet mail

We are using Outlook Express/Windows mail client, and there is a long long delay when sending mail.
It just hangs saying "Connecting..." in the status bar. Receiving email has no problems.
Eventually it sometimes works or sometimes just times out.
The smtp server is not btinternet/yahoo but our own email server, which we have been using for 10 years. There is no problem pinging the smtp server. e.g. smtp.ourserver.net
It works without delays on other (non BT) home/business networks.
We have tried plugging other laptops into this home network and trying to send email (to the same mail server) - same problem.
It therefore seems to be peculiar to a BT Hub or BT as the ISP.
The problem seems to have first appeared when an upgrade was made to cater for future fibre optic services.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Today I started from my Firewire-device with 10.4.11 and had ichat running from there. I chatted with my friend, who is on 10.5.1 - no problems at all. (so my router is not causing the problem, as I thought)
Starting from 10.5.1 again I opened up Activity Monitor and found this message every 10 secs !
    25.12.07 25.12. 15:18:29 com.apple.launchd[138] (at.obdev.LittleSnitchUIAgent[654]) Exited with exit code: 1

I remember that I installed Little snitch some time ago and removed it manually. Then today I run the official uninstaller for it. Still I cannot get rid of this activity. May be it has to do something with the text delay in ichat? How to delete all Little Snitch processes? How can someone find these data?
    Thanks for Feedback

the problem I have since I upgraded to Mavericks version 10.9.1
The problem appears only with Mail not with other programs, not even with my browser.
When I try to zoom the text of an e-mail I received or sent , I can no longer use the keys Command + to enlarge the text, although I can reduce it with Command -.
As I have a problem with my eyes, This is a serious matter for me.
When I write an e-mail, if I select text and press Command +, it just displaces the text to the right.
Now, my husband has a USB keyboard. If he connects it to my computer, his regular Command + does not work either, but  he uses the extended keyboard, then it works. Unfortunately, he needs it for a musical application which does not work with a wireless keyboard.

Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".

  • I updated my iPad to 7.0.6 but I find the new look very irritating.  In mail I can no longer swipe left on a message to erase it.  The font in calendar is so small I can't read my appointments.  I happen to like the yellow paper that was in notes.

You have to swipe from right to left to delete mail.
In the settings, accessibility you can make fonts bolder, that helps a bit.
THe yellow paper...sorry, no tweak for that unless you find a different notes app to use.

Hello Acer-Tommy, This looks like a very common issue with most of the Acer laptops. It is not that all the Acer laptops having the keyboard issue have problems with the same keys. But this is a huge problem!! And can render any keys dead, not some specific. I have the same problem on my Acer Aspire 8943G, which I had purchased for a hefty price. But the support for your products is as bad as the hardware of the Acer Aspire laptops. In my case, my Aspire 8943G's keys, "S", "D", "G", "H", "M",  (Including the main "Return" key) and "7" and "8" on the Number-pad are dead. I have to use the Virtual Keyboard in windows OS to type. This is very frustrating as one cannot even type simple comments (I am using another PC from HP to write this comment).  When I tried to contact the Support, they want me to send the laptop to them on my own cost, and if there is a hardware issue found, I will have to pay additional charges for service and replacement of the keyboard. And this is unacceptable as I have already paid a huge sum for buying this product, and I use it daily for work. Sending it to Acer support just for verification would take weeks and it will create problems for me and my work. So first of all, please realize and agree to the fact that this is a huge problem which many of the Acer laptops are facing. And try to provide a better option and service support to the customers who have purchased these products. Keyboard is a part of the PC without which the PC is useless... Please get hold of this fact and improve your products. A very frustrated customer.  /Kiran

  • Apple MAIL e-mail with attachment not arriving in GMail accounts

    Serious problem...
If I send an e-mail FROM my mac account TO a GMail account...
    ... No attachment: E-mail arrives
... With attachment: E-MAIL DOES NOT ARRIVE
I've tested this from my MAIL account to our principal on our school's GMail account.
I've tested this from my MAIL account to my own GMail account.
Repeatedly: if my MAIL-generated e-mail includes an attachement, it DOES NOT ARRIVE in GMail acocunts.
    This is a serious problem...
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.
    Cat
PS Just did an experiment: sent a MAIL-generated e-mail with attachment to my GMail account -- e-mail arrived, but had been stripped of attachment. Immediately sent another MAIL e-mail with two small attachments -- it never arrived in my GMail account but the cc arrived immediately in my MAIL account with both attachments intact.

I too am experiencing this behavior, however, for some reason that I do not know, the attachments appear ok one day and then they appear embedded. This is becoming detrimental to my work!
Is anyone looking into this at Apple?

An e-mail message with a Word-attachment that was

To reproduce this, I sent an e-mail with a Word
attachment to my own address, using Thunderbird on a
Linux machine. After that, I forwarded the received
message with the attachment again to my own address.
In Thunderbird, the forwarded message shows the
attachment correctly, but in Apple Mail (2.1), that I
use with the same e-mail account (IMAP), the original
message shows the attachment correctly, but in the
forwarded message it appears undecoded in the message
    body (see above).
I searched the forum and found similar issues, but
not exactly what happens here. Also, no solutions
provided helped me to solve this problem. Any
    ideas?
