Mail not bringing in new email

It was happening on my 3GS and now on my 4. The inbox says updating, but no new mail comes in. If I click on SENT mail, then back to INBOX, the mail comes in. It's really irritating to have to do this lame workaround.
Any suggestions?

That sounded great, Jeff... but unfortunately it didn't work. And yes I tried restarting, etc. I'm actually a mac consultant and this is just one of those buggy things I always pretend never happens to Apple products but it absolutely does...

One of my POP mail accounts stop receiving new email

I have done everything that other postings say (remove the "AlreadyDownloaded) but I can only get emails as of Jan 9, 2006 and no further.
I can send emails, but Apple Mail won't retrieve newer emails from my server.
I checked and I can see/seend/receive emails from a webmail, even Entourage works fine.
What can I do?

Still having a problem here with trying to enlarge my screen after hitting pencil icon in menu bar to start a new email. Then I hit Window in drop down menu at very top. But Zoom in there is in fade mode and will not activate. Que pasa?

Your email provider has blocked the standard mail port 25 for sending emails and is requiring a different port. This is to avoid mail relays that use mail clients to send spam. You need to find the port that is used by your provider for sending outgoing mail. Then change the settings in your email account on your phone to match the port. You will also have to provide some security credentials for the account.
You can also try deleting the email account from your iphone, and the adding the email account back as this will many times set the correct port for sending emails.
You could also do a Google search on the the settings for your device with your email provider. That will provide you with the proper settings.

After Mavericks upgrade Mail 7 not automatically fetching new emails

Since the Mavericks upgrade, Mail is not anymore automatically fetching new emails, but at the initial lauch.
I tried to modifity the settings, from 'Automatic', to 5 minute, to 15 minutes, stopping Mail and starting again each time but it does not help.
Emails are fetched only after the lauch of Mail, and when I manually ask Mail to do it.
It's really annoying.
I saw on French forums, that I'm not the only user reporting this, but I don't see many posts on the Apple forum with the exact same issue.
I don't know what to do to fix/find a workround for this problem.
If someone has any idea, I'm more than open to try it.

Try this workaround until Apple fixes it.
Copy this into a plain text file (i.e TextExit in plain text mode)
Save as com.yourname.Checkmail.plist to ~/Library/LaunchAgents/
Log out and back in, or re-boot

Iphone running 2.1 does not check for new email in the background

my iphone does not get new email unless i open the mail app.
it worked perfectly previous to now.
this has been the case for a few weeks. i have asked several friends, who tell me that they have the same issue after upgrading.
any solution? i use mail for work, and count on that ding in my pocket.

My signature is not appearing the new email message?

Can anyone tell me how I inset my signature automatically into the new email message? I have put in signatures to my preferences as told to, but they are not apprearing in my pop up signature in the new message.

If you're sure you have added the signature to the account in the Signatures tab of the Mail preferences window, quit and relaunch Mail.

Mail not checking for new mail

I have been noticing this for a while now but it is becoming extraordinarily frustrating to deal with: Mail.app does not report new emails have arrived unless I restart it, no error or warnings are displayed or indicated. I know there is new mail available only because I check on my iPhone and see that I have multiple new messages which arrived long before the 5 min check for new mail time I have set. Is there anything to "fix" this or do I have to find another mail app?
Just a bit of info, I do have 6 different IMAP accounts all loaded through mail. The "Get Mail" button doesn't do anything.

Same situation here... Thunderbird works ok... but I have to wait a lot or restart mail if I want to get the messages... Manually clicking "Get All New mail" doesn't work.
Any idea how to debug this problem? Any log file or tip? I am wondering if my problem is related to my IMAP server or it's just Mail

Not getting any new emails

For over 2 hours no new emails have been recieved in my @btinternet.com inbox. I've tried on webmail, ipad, android phone, all the same. I normally use yahoo mail on web and also Thunderbird on PC. All were working fine until about 7:41PM tonght. I've been expecting some confirmation emails and also sent myself some test messages. None recieved

Poor show from BT - they probably don't know anything about it and will play the ignorant. All I will say is do not let the person you get make you reboot router, reboot devices, reinstall your operating system, move house and change your wife as they will invariably try to do! It's their problem to fix!

How can I set Mail NOT to automatically download incoming email messages when it opens?
I have several email accounts turned on within Mail. My default email is NOT iCloud, and I use another app to manage that account. However, within other apps, for example, to report a crash, the iPad defaults to Mail to send the report. That is OK. However, in the process it starts downloading all my incoming messages. I want it NOT to do that.

The iPhone data plans are unlimited, so you shouldnt be concerned about cost. That being said, it is ANNOYING to have all accounts (I have six) check email just because I launch the mail app. And if I follow a URL in an email to Safari, then come back to Mail, it checks AGAIN.
Nope, there is not way to stop if from doing that short of turning the account OFF under Mail Settings, which is even MORE inconvenient. I went to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and left them a message. Perhaps you should do the same.

Should be Mail 4.5. With Spotlight, check to see if you have more than one version of the Mail app onboard. Also, make sure that there is one at the root level of the Applications folder, and that it is namely simply Mail before applying the Combo.

Email attachements will not load in New Email, but load in reply

I create a new email, to a person in outlook office 365, It will not load and attachments or pictures. If that person sent a email, I can go to reply and attachments load not a problem. Only in new email it will not load.

I have deleted my icloud account as it would not accept my new email or password but now it is asking for my id and email and says it is incorrect

I need to update my phone and it will not accept my new apple id and password. I have changed my apple id and password recently to a new email address. How do I update my phone when I can't get passed the id bit? Thank you

Thank you for your reply but I sorted it out by turning my phone off and then on again and it seemed to update itself so I could put in the apple ID. However, it's really not easy to negate the iphone and change emails which is unavoidable sometimes. If anything like that happens again I now know that there is an icloud website at least. Anne
