Mail not can read some messages.

I use Mail (3.6) and after do the 10.5.8 upgrade I can not read some messages (the message appears in white), but I can read the same message with Entourage for example...
I have the same problem with Safari... some sites appears now in white and I cannot read them...
Before, with the 10.5.7, always work perfect.

have you had a look at mail/preferences/fonts & colours? When you click on the e.g. "mailbox font / Select...", you find tabs for "document colour"; tried changing that?
Anything in there that could change the colour of the font?
As I suspect it is merely a white font on a white screen background, which would, of course, be illegible.
In Safari, it would be preferences/appearance.
Although it's peculiar that this occured after the 10.5.8 update, but apart from a corrupt font/preference, I would not know what would cause this.
NB: I just went to elperiodico and it looks fine in Safari. What is the "default encoding" (also found in preferences/appearance)?

You may benefit from disabling Show on Lock Screen for Messages and Mail in Settings -> Notification Center -> Mail/Messages.
You can disable Show on Lock Screen for a particular app in Settings > Notification Center > <app name>.

I tried Microsoft FIX IT

Hi Albos, This is a known problem. These superdrives die after a while. See the various threads on this site and the internet. I have the same problem with my Imac 20" 2.16 ghz. Just wants to burn and read cd's. Its has to do with the laser. For DVD an CD are two different laser and the one for DVD's has probably died in yours (as it did in mine). I bought an external LG burner and problem solved. (And a lot cheaper than replacing the superdrive)

Apple mail not showing all the messages?

In Apple mail, for my icloud account, I have some mailboxes which show the wrong number of messages, it shows too few.
As an example, a mailbox contains 150 messages, but apple mail reports there are only 146.
I rebuilt the mailbox and let apple mail do its thing. In the activity window I can see there are 150 messages. Yet, once apple mail has finished rebuilding the mailbox, it still tells me there are 146 messages. What's going wrong? Why would apple mail not show all the messages while in the activity window it clearly shows it knows there are 150?

Solved!
This was too weird to be real. Apple mail does not show messages it believes to be duplicates, and buy, does it make big mistakes in deciding what are duplicate messages and what not! Some of my mailboxes had over 100 "duplicates" not showing according to apple mail.
I found a solution thanks to this topic:

defaults delete com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates
does yield an error in 10.8.2 ( Domain (com.apple.mail) not found. Defaults have not been changed. )

My iphone screen has broke and i cant see anything but i can still hear my messages coming through, is there any way i can read those messages online?

Database mail not sending no error messages

SQL server 2008 R2
Database mail was up and running until sometime last week. It seemed to quit in the middle of a long list of emails. We had network issues at this same time that might have contributed to the issue.
Everything checks out ok today but I cannot send a test email. I do not see any error messages or 'db mail starting up' messages in the log.
I do see the Email in the sysmail_unsentitems view.
I do not receive any error messages.
I tried setting up a secondary account and that did not make a differnce.
I tried stopping the mail service with EXEC msdb.dbo.sysmail_start_sp and the query never completes. I canceled after > 5 minutes
I deleted many unsent and one retrying message from the queue. I see those actions in the log.
Is there any thing else I can try?

Have you worked through the troubleshooting steps in the following BOL Topic to validate that the external executable is activating, and the queue status is correctly returning RECEIVES_OCCURRING:

Also have you tried increasing your retry configuration parameters to handle the larger mail queue that you are sending through?

Mail not loading new gmail message

I have Apple Mail 4.3 and since 22 November it is not loading new gmail messages. New messages are appearing in gmail and iphone, but not in Mail - any ideas why this would be

I'm facing the same problem since 27 Dec 2010, can't find and fix for this problem.
I can download other mail accounts except imap.gmail.com, it just show loading and nothing happen, and it also choke up almost all my internet bandwidth.
I gave up and switched to outlook for mac and no such problem.
Hope apple can look into this problem and I'm sure there are more out there having same issue.

How can I set Mail NOT to automatically download incoming email messages when it opens?
I have several email accounts turned on within Mail. My default email is NOT iCloud, and I use another app to manage that account. However, within other apps, for example, to report a crash, the iPad defaults to Mail to send the report. That is OK. However, in the process it starts downloading all my incoming messages. I want it NOT to do that.
i want it to download new messages only when I ask it to do so.

The iPhone data plans are unlimited, so you shouldnt be concerned about cost. That being said, it is ANNOYING to have all accounts (I have six) check email just because I launch the mail app. And if I follow a URL in an email to Safari, then come back to Mail, it checks AGAIN.
Nope, there is not way to stop if from doing that short of turning the account OFF under Mail Settings, which is even MORE inconvenient. I went to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and left them a message. Perhaps you should do the same.

Mail not saving large outgoing messages

i've recently noticed that when sending large outgoing messages (typically 10mb or more), mail sends but does not save the sent message. i'm using IMAP Gmail. everything else (ie, anything smaller) sends and saves fine.
anyone else noticed this/got a fix? i'm using mail 4.1 on OS 10.6.1, but i had trouble with mail in leopard where it wouldn't send large emails at all.

Yes I am having the exact same problem - email just disappears totally whilst being sent - nothing in drafts or sent items - the email has totally disappeared - very very annoying...
I am feeling very angry with Apple and things that should 'just work' that just 'don't work' any more - the whole OS is becoming totally unreliable - I'm seriously considering ditching this junk (after 3yrs of Apple purchasing) and going back to Windows - Apple are the most arrogant and uncommunicative company I have ever known...

Mistyped email under Mail/Notes - Can change ?

When setting up iCloud on my Macbook i misspelled my email address for backing up Mail Notes but it mentioned i could not change this after it was set, any ideas on how i can correct this ? Surely there must be a way !

Thank you Eric for sending the links. Fortunately after I wrote this post…I don't know what happened but I filled in my mail preference settings for the umteenth time with my new email password and voila! It worked. For some reason however…now when I open the Mail App I do still get a prompt asking me if I want to use this server….and it is, of course, the one and only I have listed.!?!?! The thing that irritates me…is…that I had done NOTHING to cause a problem to begin with. I think my email account at aol (nestcape) may have been hacked and my password stolen or compromised in some way??...and perhaps that caused a glitch in my mail app??? I am no techy, but I should have started out with my intuition and changed the password first before going mental….When something like this happens it makes one feel so vulnerable.…I usually feel well secured with my lone iMac and now my new iPad…ANYWAY…thank tyou for addressing my issue and I have bookmarked those links…for future reference which I hope I never need. Hey..is that your kitty??? She is beeeooootiful!

Mail not displaying content of messages

When I open a message a spinning wheel and a text message saying "loading" is displayed. The message disappears but the body of the message is never displayed.
This is only with messages in my inbox that were downloaded today. Messages downloaded yesterday or messages filtered into mailboxes other than the inbox display as usual.
Messages that do not display in Mail on my MacBook Air open fine on my iPhone or Pad.

Tried that. Didn't work. After getting your response I tried the solution to my other problem with Mail--not downloading mail: I deleted the account then recreated it. The messages previously unreadable are now readable. Plus, all the message that didn't get downloaded today were downloaded.
When is Apple gonna get Mail straight? The problems are well known. Have been from the Yosemite upgrade.

HT204387 Subaru XV can read out messages but when we reply, it comes up "there is an error in sending message. We cannot work out why.

My Subaru XV reads out messages received on my iphone without a problem, but when I hit reply, it comes up as "error, cannot send message". We have checked everything in the car set up and everything appears correct. We are wondering if we have missed changing something in the phone. Can someone please help?

This I have seen before...
It can be that the SMTP relay server is configured to only allow certain IP ranges or addresses.
It can be that the firewall on the SP server does not allow for SMTP traffic (normally 25, for example for Exchange).
It can be that there is an Antivirus on the SP server(Client AV) that prohobits the Timer service to send email from this server. I have seen MacAfee do this. Needed an policy change.
If, its the builtin SMTP service you are using, check this link:

thank you, but without doing something contrary to public having private discussion and suddenly some one from work who is doing the setting is asking me why i am using whats app not during work time isn't that strange???

Mail not checking for new messages in IMAP subfolders

Hello everyone,
I am disappointed to see that Mail version 3.0 (912.1/912) displays the same wrong behavior as pre-Leopard versions in the way that it fails to check for new messages in subfolders on an IMAP account (it only checks the INBOX).
One has to manually open each and every subfolder and wait a few seconds to force a resync and display any new message placed there by server-side rules processing.
So far I had been using the excellent IMAPCheck (http://macapps.perniciouspenguins.com/imapcheck/) but this is no longer supported by 10.5.
Does anybody have a workaround for this? Or the power to bug Apple engineering enough to get this solved once and for all ;o)

This problem is not solved for all cases.
This solution only applies to server-side filtering/redirecting of messages into imap folders.
I'm having trouble with client-side mail.app rules moving new messages into imap folders and not having the new message counts displayed.
This wasn't a problem in the previous version of mail.app.
Here's to hoping that Apple posts a patch to fix this problem soon...

Applescript for mail error can't get message id

I have an applescript (found on internet) for Mail 4.5 that deletes messages in "on my mac" mailbox "Deleted Inbox" that are older than 120 days. The script runs from an iCal daily event. I drag messages from Inbox to "Deleted Inbox" when I don't want the message in Inbox, but I want to save the message for 120 days before deleting it. The script sometimes runs successfully, and sometimes gives error "Mail got an error: Can't get message id xxx of mailbox "Deleted Inbox"". Then in Mail, I "Mailbox / Rebuild" that mailbox, and run the script manually without error. How can I avoid that error? The script is essentially:

          set OldStuff to every message of mailbox TheBox where date received of it < OldDate
          repeat with ThisMessage in OldStuff
delete ThisMessage
          end repeat

I don't actually know how you can avoid that error. However, maybe you can use a workaround and have the script rebuild the mailboxes automatically when such an error occurs. Try the following code:
