Mail not connecting through proxy

I transferred all information from my previous iBook (MacOS X 10.3.9) to my new MacBook (10.4.9) over the firewire link during installation. All settings have been accurately copied.
Mail works at home, using a cable modem and DHCP. It works with the external modem. However, it will not connect at the office using internal Ethernet through a proxy on our network, while the old mail with the same settings worked fine. Now, the (new) Mail Connection Doctor says: "Mail was unable to connect to the internet, etc. Nothing I do there will make it work. Two observations:
1. Safari works fine, all the time.
2. Mail does connect to the internet: when I collect my new messages with the external modem (out of necesity) and then change back to my office configuration, Mail will not connect to my mail servers as described, but it will effortlessly collect all the images embedded in HTML messages I have already downloaded.
Help will be gratefully appreciated...

Hi Doc_Ski, and a warm welcome to the forums!
maybe the password to my account on the proxy is stored somewhere and all 3 browsers keep using it
Yes, it can be stored in Cookies.
Try making a new User & see if it works or asks for them.

  • Store crashing on me all the time or can it not connect through proxy?

Hiya, I'm sure this is not the right place of the forum to post this, but the only place i find vaguely appropriate as there is not MacStore section yet. Well i had just read about it, got excited, updated my mac and then I started up the Mac App Store. All i get is the top bar with some of the featured apps, then i get the logo in grey in the middle and when i start the store up, it shortly for a split second brings up the bottom bar of the store. I can't log in with my ID, cant click on anything else... if i do the store hangs itself up even more. So now im pretty disappointed if it is because the app store cant run through a proxy as this is the only way i can run it in boarding school.
Can somebody tell me what i could possibly do to fix this problem!
    Thanks in advance

  • BPC Connection Through Proxy

    Deal All,
We could not connect BPC through proxy server. Can anybody let me know any specific setting required.
    Best Regards
    Shesh

    Sorin,
Thank you so much for the reply.
I think you are saying that when I connect  that when I am connecting directly to BPCWEB it is saying knows you are authenticated to the windows domain. But when it gets it from the proxy server it is now not you anymore the BPCWEB server sees it coming from the proxy server NOT the windows domain.
So instead of DOMAIN/userID connecting it is PROXY/userID connecting. BPC doesn't know you. This cannot be the first time this has been seen.
Do you know a way around this?  I am currently using sapwebdispatcher as my reverse proxy here, however I do not mind trying other products.
Would you have any recommendations on what your other clients use as a reverse proxy for BPC.
To simply things, we have DOMAIN users ---> Reverse proxy box ---> BPC Web .NET Server.  We want to eliminte the ability for direct access to the BPC web .NET Server
Thanks again... any help would be great as we have been struggling for a few weeks to get this silly access issue resolved.

  • Installing an application (adium x 0.89/msn) + connecting through proxy

hi all. most .dmg files will mount and tell u to drag the .app icon into 'applications folder'
may i ask, what is the difference if u drag it into MACINTOSH HDD->APPLICATIONS folder, vs dragging it into /user/applications.
apparently it had an observable effect on my installing of Adium X 0.89 (i use this for msn and i will elaborate why)
previously when i dragged adium.app into macintosh hdd/applications, the default folder, i experienced several problems. i could not initiate messages to my contacts, it would display an error message of "Could not send; a connection error occurred." however when others msged me (if i get them, that is), i can reply to them, if im fast enough. if say i don't reply within 1/2min, then any msg i type to them will be so-called counted as a new msg, and i cant initiate it again! the same error msg surfaces.
i checked my connection settings and it's ok. i uninstalled adium.app (search adium on spotlight and deleted everything that had adium), plus emptied trash. then i took a new move in installing in /user/applications folder and it worked fine!
until now. it crashed all of a sudden for no reason. i uninstalled it again. installed it again in /user/applications folder, and it has the prev problem of not being able to initiate converesations again! (how frustrating!)
why don't i just use microsoft messenger for mac 5.1 then? you might ask..
very good question. i want to use that too. but i can't! see, i'm staying at halls, at Monash Uni, Australia. we connect through our uni's http proxy + port. for msn 5.0, i cant enter my username/password (as the textfields are grayed out). for adium, i can enter them. on contacting msn, they told me my msn is corrupt, i shd uninstall it completely and reinstall it with a version i get from them, not other sources. i did that, and still can't. i have a strong feeling it is a problem defunct, they have yet to make it compatible to mac users who want to connect through HTTP PROXY (not socks 5.0) and have to enter their username/password to enter this proxy.
pls enlighten on the above issues, and hopefully provide a solution.

oh come on im sure someone knows sth abt this...
installing any program in /mactintosh hdd/applications
    vs /user/applications

  • ICloud on Mail not connecting to IMAP server since Lion update

Since the latest lion update, my Mail has been unable to recieve or send any mail.
Mail connection Dr is showing the following error; "Could not connect to this iCloud IMAP server."
Here's a few screenies showing the problems; http://imgur.com/a/VA7x1
Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks.

    Thanks for the responces, both!
I've tried re-signing in, in both mail and through system pref. I just get the following error at the starting "Welcome to mail" splash screen
The iCloud IMAP server “p04-imap.mail.me.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
As to the mail server, I can only assume no! As far as I can remember it was just a case of username+password and I was good to go. Really stumpped as to why this has happened.

  • External hard drive that is not connected through a network

Will Time Machine work with an external WD hard drive that is connected through my network at home. I plan to connect the drive via by internet router or Airport Express. Can TM use any drive that my MacBook can see? (except for my local hard drive of course)

Thanks...the cable is pretty sturdy as is--plus the drive appears in the panel in Disc Utility, just not on desktop (?). Sorry can you elaborate on SMC?
I decided to try to recover some of the data using Data Rescue II--so far not able to get it off the drive, but I've had very good success with this app in the past. I was hoping for some similar suggestion like command-T (target disc mode as with firewire hard drives) but I don't know if this works with USB drives.

  • Mail Not Connecting.. For Three Weeks

For the last three weeks Mail hasn't been connecting - I can't send or receive mail at all. It's basically the same problem as this person was having here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10543385&#10543385
iChat wasn't connecting either, until yesterday when I fiddled with the ports.
Firefox works fine but Mail, WoW, Steam, Transmission, etc. do not connect. I've done a malware scan and nothing turned up. My landlord says he isn't blocking any ports. This started about three weeks ago. One day, everything was working fine.. the next day nothing would connect.
Does anyone know what I could do to get Mail working again? Or what the problem may be?

I was rather hoping you were going to tell me that the PC was able to access email and that this problem is therefore restricted to the Mac. If it wasn't for the fact that you are unable to connect from the library as well I would suggest that it is most likely to be an issue with the router or ISP. I think it is still worth asking your landlord if they will check that the firmware is up to date on the router and if it isn't if they could update it, At least if they check it will eliminate something from the equation.
In the meantime I guess we can check your email ports. Go to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 click on 'Proceed', then 'Lookup Specific Port Information' then enter 995 and click 'Jump' then click 'Probe THIS Port'. Repeat the probe for port 587. You can also ping the GMail server by going to /Applications/Utilities/Network Utility/Ping enter gmail.google.com and click Ping. Obviously I am concentrating on the ports that GMail will use and you can probe other ports used by your other apps that can't access the internet.
Try this, in Terminal (in your Utilities folder) enter
    dscacheutil -flushcache
    to flush the DNS cache
    Still in Terminal enter:
    sudo /sbin/ipfw -f flush
... and type in your password when prompted. This will clear out your existing Firewall rules so if you had any set up you will need to recreate them.
You could also go into System Preferences/Network and create a new 'Location' use that and test. It might be useful if you could also test your connection at the library or some other place using this 'test location'.
Report back with what you find and we will see where we can go from here. Hopefully you do find something because the ideas are starting to dry up and unless Golden Shoes or someone else can come up with something we may come to a dead halt here.
BTW are you sure you looked in the right place for the Receipts folder? It should be in /Library where I said, at the top level of your HD not to be confused with the one in your User folder or the one in System

  • Mail not coming through

netflix tried 3 times to send me mail so I could change my password but I could not get the email. I gave them my yahoo email address and the mail came right through . Any idea why I could not receive email they told me to check my junk mail box but I cant find one? Thanks for any help

By default any mail that Thunderbird thinks is junk gets a junk icon placed beside it and it goes into your Inbox. You can set up a Junk folder but since you seem to know nothing about Junk I doubt that you have setup junk controls and modified the default
The more likely possibility is your providers spam filter is catching the messages and they are going into the Spam folder on your providers server.
You need to log into your account at your providers web mail page and check the spam folder there.

  • IPhone not connecting through Bluetooth on iMac 21.5 inch with Nvidia 750 M

On my iMac 21.5 with Nvidia 750 M, both of my iPhones (iPhone 5s and iPhone 6) won't connect through bluetooth. I've tried disconnecting my wireless keyboard and mouse. The same connection error would pop-up. *By the way, you can talk in programmer's terms to me.*

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722
If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458

  • Safari can't connect through proxy

I just installed OS X 10.5.6 on a new MBP and migrated my old 10.4.11 PB account. Now when I connect to a vpn and set a proxy to be used, every web access times out.
But this only happens with Safari! When I use the same settings in FireFox, I can perfectly access the web.
What also puzzles me is: When checking the proxy settings in terminal, I get a segmentation fault:
    # networksetup -getwebproxy airport
    Enabled: Yes
    Server: proxy01.domain.secret.com
    Port: 8080
    Segmentation fault
Also when I telnet to proxy01.domain.secret.com on port 8080 and give it a HTTP command like
    GET http://google.com/ HTTP/1.0
I get a proper response. But still Safari is not using the proxy.

    I entered the proxy manually.
But in the meantime I got the slight suspicion that it might be vpnc that's causing the trouble.

  • Mail not connecting regularly since updating to Yosemite

Ever since updating to Yosemite my mail program has had a really hard time staying connected to my email accounts.  Both my gmail and my icloud accounts are affected.  The settings have not changed, and this worked fine on all previous iterations of OSX.
Could not connect to iMap Server
connection to server "imap....."on port 993 timed out.
I've tried deselcting Use SSL, but it doesn't seem to fix the problem.  It just times out on port 143.
The only caveat to this is if I quit mail and re-launch, the program connects, but only for a little while.

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

default negotiate authentication as well as ssl offloading is checked and using same name for internal and external urls. also have valid 3rd party certificate configured on server.

    Hi,
Step 1 :In addition to that , please use remote connectivity analyzer to check outlook anywhere in internet .
From that we came to know the exact error .
Step 2: Most of the organisations are having an ISA or TMG firewall to create web published rules for exchange services .In case if you have you need to check the rule created for outlook anywhere is properly configured or not.
If you have such kind of firewall's ,You can test the OA rule by using the option test rule in ISA or TMG firewall .
Most probably you can able to find out the exact cause with the help of EXRCA.
Please reply me if you have any queries.
