Mail not displaying attachments properly

hello
ive got apple mail setup with Gmail imap. one account.
sent new message today with .jpg image attached. when i look at the attachment in the sent folder it appears as this:
"ÿØÿà
Message was edited by: coldplay123

Found this on gmail help centre:
"Attachments sent using Apple Mail become garbled text View Details & Report:
In a mail client that uses IMAP, an attachment shows inline as garbled text if these two conditions are met:
The name of the attached file contains spaces ('family photo.jpg,' e.g.).
The message was sent using Apple Mail (except version 3.0).
While we work to resolve the issue, we recommend the following workarounds:
Use the Gmail web interface to view or send the message.
If you're the recipient, ask the sender to rename the file without spaces and resend it.
If you're the sender, avoid mailing attachments that have spaces in the filename, and rename files as needed ('family photo.jpg' should be 'familyphoto.jpg,' e.g.)."
This makes sense because i received a pdf the other day that was fine. looking at the filename its a number without any spaces. ahh thats a bit of a pain.

  • Mail not sending attachments properly

    Hi- I'm trying to send clients emails with attachments. They are receiving the emails, but with no attachment. I sent it to a coworker and the attachment was there. Additionally, another coworker sent the same message to the client, and the attachment was sent with it. "Always send Windows-friendly Attachments" is checked, the whole attaching process is completely normal, but some clients are not getting my attachments.
    The machine I am using is a Mac Mini with OS 10.5.8, Mail version 3.6.
    Any ideas of what I could do?

    You aren't the only one having this problem. Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • Mail not displaying attachments correctly

    I wondered if anyone can help me out with the following please?
    From time to time when receiving email attachment in mail I do not receive the attachment as a downloadable file, instead mail does not recognize the attachment and displays garbled text (See below sample).
    This can happen with simple single Word files emailed to me and has happened with other file types such as PowerPoint and Jpegs. The problem is intermittent but is very irritating.
    My ISP is AOL and I am running Panther on my MAC .
    Incidentally my work around is to access the mail using AOL’s website and downloading the attachment from there.
    Does anyone know how to resolve this issue in mail? Thanks gang.

    Linda,
    This next line of questions, and suggestion for things to observe, should not be pursued, without some feedback, and perhaps additional info. However, if some files leftover from when Panther and Mail 1.3 was used, are present, then the index file now used in Mail 2.0/2.1 may be corrupted, and if so, it will never impact every Mac, and its Mail exactly the same way.
    Since your mailboxes, or at least some of them, originated in Panther, I want you to read the article at the link below, and get back to me with some observations, before attempting any changes -- however, the problem is not usually as severe with xxxx.imapmbox folders, but can still be present:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301315
    This issue of leftover files applies not only to mailboxes you have previously created (which are in the Mailboxes folder the article mentioned) but can also apply to those mailboxes in account folders created prior to the upgrade to Tiger, which will be of the form, xxxx.imapmbox.
    Also, please report the size of each file or folder. Do not, however, try to list the files that are within the folder named Messages, that is found in each and every mailbox. For any On My Mac mailboxes, it is very important to compare the size of any file named "mbox" with that of the Messages folder. If the mbox is greater in size than the Messages folder, then not all messages have been converted to be in the Messages folder. Also, if any xxxx.mbox folder has more than one folder with Messages in its name, things are not what they should be.
    The path to the Mail folder is Home/Library/Mail -- within the Mail folder are one or more account folders and the Mailboxes folder. Even though you are using IMAP, other mailboxes (On My Mac or POP) might still corrupt the Envelope Index that Mail 2.x now uses instead of separate index files in each mailbox.

  • Mail not showing HTML properly in Leopard

    Hi there,
    I've successfully been sending HTML newsletters out via the email application "Thunderbird" (which handles HTML well) on OSX to clients using mail. But since leopard's release, clients using Mail on said system don't seem to receive HTML properly. All the hyperlinks are discarded etc.
    Can anyone suggest any work around or shed some light on this please ASAP as it is urgent.
    Cheers,
    James

    Not sure if this is related to your problem, but here goes...
    I had the problem that Mail 3.0 was not displaying HTML properly after first installing Leopard. Mail from various sources would display as plain text, instead of HTML. The NY Times does not look so great that way. It was messy... I found information on this forum to edit the com.apple.mail.plist file with a program called PrefSetter. The default was set to "prefer plaintext". I changed the value to false, and it works well now. Every now and then it still does it, but I can fix it by shutting down and restarting Mail.app.

    Ok, well that little D2 looking thing after 'OREUtils/' is supposed to be a '+'
    Here is the code that performs that magic:
    <form action="/login?return_to=%2FOpenRedstoneEngineers%2FOREUtilsV2" aria-label="Sign in to make or propose changes" class="js-new-blob-form tooltipped tooltipped-e new-file-link" method="post"><span aria-label="Sign in to make or propose changes" class="js-new-blob-submit octicon octicon-plus" data-test-id="create-new-git-file" role="button"></span></form>
    So, it does not look like a font thing (on the surface).  Let's go look at the js-new-blub-submit class and where does octicon-plus come from...

  • Incoming mail not displaying?

    Incoming mail not displaying?, appears to download but does not display. Began today. Nothing has changed with computer hardware or software. Mail working fine on iPhone. Any suggestions?

    Hi Linc,
    Usually after about a couple of minutes use.
    Not one particular message - it will freeze for a moment then completely crash
    It seems to have solved it self now though.
    I can view my text.
    Used CCleaner to clear all cache, under the mail app and all miscellaneous cache too.
    Restarted laptop and works a treat now.
    Curious as to whether it was due to the upgrade to Maverick though

  • Since moving to iCloud my mail not sending attachments any answers?

    Hi
    Since moving to iCloud my mail not sending attachments any answers?

    After the migration I started having problems with all NON Apple things.
    Now, as of July, 6th this is my situation:
    Lion devices and iOS5 devices (MacBook, MacPro, iPhone 4s and iPad I) - fine
    have a look here for info:
    AUTOMATIC SETUP FOR APPLE MAIL ON LION MACS
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html
    Snow Leopard - set up after some trouble using these instructions:
    OLDER SERVER FOR APPLE MAIL ON PRE OS 10.7 MACS
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5330
    Non Apple clients should work with these instructions but I still cannot get MailForge to work:
    SERVERS FOR GENERIC EMAIL CLIENTS

    MOBILE NON APPLE STUFF
    With my HP (Palm) Pre 3 I am still figuring out why every single day they change the servers:
    this however might help you as the Palm is more similar to the BB than the iPhone:
    PALM PRE 3 SETTINGS: I also have updated the password on iCloud, deleted the old iCloud account on the Pre, created a new one. Please note that it now sends using the older server, I do not know for how long.

  • Apple Mail in 10.6.8 not displaying attachments

    I am unable to get consistent results on displaying attachments from Apple Mail on 10.6.8 with Exchange Server 2007 SP3 RU4. Attachments sent from an Outlook 2007 client on the same exchange server are not displayed in Apple Mail. The message shows no sign of an attachment. The problem with this issue, is it is not consistant. If I forward the e-mail message from my iPhone to myself, I get the attachment in Mail. It shows up in my iPhone correctly. I am connected to Exchange in Mail via the standard EWS (Exchange Web Services). The original message doesn't show any attachment in Mail. But after 20 or so minutes, the attachement show in the message body, but not in the header up top. Just driving me crazy. Is there anyone that can point me in a direction on who to contact on this issue to find out how it can be fixed?
    Thanks,
    Nate

    I'm having the same problem and it is driving me crazy. My main email account at work is on an Exchange 2007 server. When I send emails with attachments (using Mail 4.5), I get people replying telling me that I haven't included the attachments. However, I know I have as the attachments appear in the Sent Items and I have also tested it by sending blind copies to a Gmail account and they turn up there even when the recipient is telling me that they cannot see the attachment. Even worse, people send me emails with attachments and the attachments either just do not appear at all or they appear intermittently. Whatever the problem, this really isn't good enough - how can I work with such unreliability. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas for how to fix or work around this I'd be very grateful!

  • OCS Webdesk will not display attachments on emails sent from Thunderbird !!

    Hi,
    Emails that are sent with attachments from Mozilla Thunderbird clients display in my Webdesk folders without the attachment!!
    Funny thing is that the size of the email means it obviously has an attachment but the attachment does not display in the email, meaning you cannot open it.
    If you view the same email via Outlook with the Oracle Connector then it is fine.
    Emails sent to my webdesk account from Microsoft Outlook come through o.k.
    I tested this problem by sending emails with attachments from Apple Mail to my webdesk Inox and the same thing happened, email without the attachment visible !

    Webdesk means Web Access Client right ?
    We've never seen such a problem, works flawlessly here. Did you try with another account ?

  • Mail not displaying inline images correctly

    This is not a problem specific to Lion, but most recent OS X versions. Regularly I receive email formatted as HTML, which includes JPEG images embedded within them. These images are technically attachments, and as such, Mail.app displays them as a placeholder. Other mail apps will display these images inline, regardless of them being an attachment, remote image or otherwise.
    How can I make these images load automatically?

    No-one replied, but I found a solution on another board. Run Terminal (do a Spotlight search if you don't know where to find this), and type:
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool false
    This will force Mail not to disable inline attachment viewing. Obviously, to reverse this, simple replace 'false' at the end with 'true'.

  • Apache FOP not displaying Cyrillic properly

    Hi,
    I am using apache FOP to generate pdfs' in Russian. I have embedded the fonts into the application but the output is being displayed as html numerical codes.
    The html numerical codes are stored in the database but I am unable to render them properly. I know the fonts are embedded correctly because when I apply the fonts to English text, Russian characters are displayed in the pdf correctly.
    e.g the Russian characters are displayed like this:
    &#1087;&#1088;&#1086;&#1076;... etc
    Why are my codes not displaying properly ? I'm a bit lost at this point.
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    thanks for the reply.
    To clarify things a bit. My web page is submitting Russian text which is being stored in an Oracle database. This text is being stored in the &#xxxx; format. This formatting is displayed properly in a web browser but I am using Apache FOP to produce a pdf and the Russian text is not being displayed as the Russian characters but as the relative &#xxxx; codes. So these codes are not being translated back into their Russian Cyrillic symbols.
    I have configured FOP and embedded the Cyrillic TTF but these codes are still not displayed. I can apply the Cyrillic font style to English text and Russian characters are displayed so it seems that that cyrillic TTF is embedded properly.
    I am not generating an serialized xml file but rather creating a javax.xml.transform.dom.DOMSource object and with my xsl file I create the pdf code snippet below:
    thanks
    Paul
              //Setup a buffer to obtain the content length
              ByteArrayOutputStream out = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
              // add fonts for Russian and Chinese certificates
              String fontConfig = path + "fonts/fontcfg.xml";
           FopFactory fopFactory = FopFactory.newInstance();
           fopFactory.setUserConfig(fontConfig);
           FOUserAgent foAgent = fopFactory.newFOUserAgent();
              //Setup FOP
              Fop fop = fopFactory.newFop(MimeConstants.MIME_PDF,foAgent , out);
              //Setup Transformer
              Source xsltSrc = new StreamSource(new File(xslFile));
              TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
              Transformer transformer = tFactory.newTransformer(xsltSrc);
              //Make sure the XSL transformation's result is piped through to FOP
              Result res = new SAXResult(fop.getDefaultHandler());
              //Setup input
              Source domSrc = new DOMSource(xmlDom);
           //Start the transformation and rendering process
              transformer.transform(domSrc, res);
              //Prepare response
              response.setContentType("application/pdf");
              response.setContentLength(out.size());
              //Send content to Browser
              response.getOutputStream().write(out.toByteArray());
              response.getOutputStream().flush();

  • Preview does not display pdf properly

    I have OS X 10.5.8 and Preview 4.2. Preview will not display a bank statement properly. Most of the content is missing. I initially thought this was the bank's fault, but the pdf statement displays OK on my work Mac using Adobe Acrobat Professional. On Preview, howerver, at work (OS X 10.4) it also does not display properly.
    Can anyone suggest a fix, or does Apple read these discussions...? Thanks. Graham

    "Preview is meant for previewing PDFs generated by OSX applications for printing.
    OSX uses its own code to generate and display PDFs, not Adobe's code.
    Adobe has been adding features to its PDF code that is used by some non-Apple software.
    PDFs generated by such software may not display correctly with Preview, but will work with the latest Adobe Reader."
    (courtesy of Malcolm Rayfield in this thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/12739728#12739728 )
    So, download and install the latest free Adobe Reader on your home Mac for these statements.

  • Services for Objects will not display attachments

    Hi Gurus, we are currently set up to display attached documents using IXOS Live Viewer, but only a select number of users have this viewer due to licensing, etc.
    The problem is, we have requirements for other users to display attachments in FI documents who do not have IXOS Live Viewer and therefore they are not able to display the attachments because of this.  Since we will not pay for more live viewer licences, there must be a way to tell SAP to use the standard windows viewers installed on the machine, if the first choice (Live viewer) isn't installed?  I have looked through the customizing for this answer, and I think I've found where it's configured to use live viewer, but I dont' know how to config it to use something else, if live viewer isn't available.  Your help would be much appreciated.
    Marty

    Hi Marty
    It is my understanding that the IXOS licensing is based on users retrieving of documents not necessarily the viewer so the licensing implications of having non-IXOS viewers accessing documents using the generic archivelink viewer is still likely to result in licensing implications if an audit is conducted at any stage.
    The transaction for specifying the viewer is the OAA3 and OAG4.
