Mail not displaying embedded images

A few weeks ago, Mail suddenly stopped displaying embedded images in email messages - newsletters, product announcements, etc. The Viewing Preference is still set for "Display remote images in HTML messages," yet all I see are place holders. In my Junk folder, if I click on Load Images in the Junk banner, it refuses to load those images. They simply remain as place holders.
Anyone else experiencing this problem? Suggestions?
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Using Mail v. 2.1

Hi gumnutnijna,
Does this only happen when using your GMail account? Do you have any other accounts set up on your BlackBerry smartphone to test with?  Also, to confirm, are the messages still in your GMail account inbox on your computer?
Thanks.

  • Mail 6.0 does not display embedded images

This was true in the prior version as well, but now I'm about to give up on the product.
While HTML emails do display images ("Display remote images in HTML messages" is checked in preferences), those with embedded images do not.  Instead, I get a series of attachments, which I can go through with QuickLook (but alphabetically by filename, not in the order in which they're embedded in the email).
This can't be how it's supposed to work.
FWIW, the emails do display properly in other mail clients.
    All suggestions much appreciated.

I was beginning to think I was the only one having this problem. I can view animated GIF's in my Verizon Yahoo account with Safari but not in Mail 3.0. Can also view it in my .mac account only if I go on the web to view my mail. Cannot view them in my .mac. account with Mail. All my settings are correct also. It sounds like there is something buggy with Mail 3.0. Mail 2.x worked fine with animated GIF's with me.

  • Mail not showing embedded images

This problem has been bugging me for a while.
I am getting some emails (from my company communications) that are incorrectly formatted by Mail. I see big boxes labeled "Missing Plug-in". The rest of the text is there, but those big boxes make the mail hard to read.
So today I decided to look a bit deeper into the problem. I brought it down to the presence of image tags that call for embedded images (included as attachments) using the "cid:" protocol. For example:
    <img src="cid:[email protected]" alt="Find" border="0">
Is this a restriction in mail (I am running mail 6.1 on Mountain Lion). Or is there some config parameter I need to tweek to enable support for embedded images ?
Thunderbird has no problem. I also did a quick check with Google Mail and Yahoo Mail, and neither show the images. But they just show nothing, so the resulting email is still readable. Mac OSX Mail shows big boxes with the "Missing Plug-in" note. I would be happy if Mail just ignored the images.
I should point out that mail on iPhone and iPad work fine (they display the images).

Try this - worked for me...
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20652845#20652845
If that doesn't link properly, here's the original solution, cut and pasted:
    "MailPluginFix"
    From the Code2K:Labs site: http://code2k.net/products/mailpluginfix/
    From MacUpdate: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/37804/mailpluginfix
Just download the fix and double-click it - next time you open mail, you'll see your attachments.

  • Mail not displaying inline images correctly

This is not a problem specific to Lion, but most recent OS X versions. Regularly I receive email formatted as HTML, which includes JPEG images embedded within them. These images are technically attachments, and as such, Mail.app displays them as a placeholder. Other mail apps will display these images inline, regardless of them being an attachment, remote image or otherwise.
How can I make these images load automatically?

No-one replied, but I found a solution on another board. Run Terminal (do a Spotlight search if you don't know where to find this), and type:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool false
This will force Mail not to disable inline attachment viewing. Obviously, to reverse this, simple replace 'false' at the end with 'true'.

  • Samsung Continuum Issues - Picture messages NOT displaying embedded images + Android 2.2?

I recently purchased the samsung continuum a few months ago and have had a difficult time with the following two issues:
    The phone is NOT rooted.
    (1) Picture Messages are not displaying as embedded images in my message notifications. All i see is "Message Size and the word downloading.  The picture is only 10K, so it should download relatively fast.  The image does not appear in my gallery either.  Please help?  Where is the image and why can't i see it in my message.According to the notes in SCH-I400.DL17, this issue should have been resolved.
    (2) How come the Contiuum has not received an update to Android 2.2?  The Fascinate and Continuum were both released at the same time and the Fascinate received the update.
    Here is my phone specs:
    Phone information:
    Hardware version:  i400.0.6
    Firmware version:  2.1-update1
    Baseband version:  S:i400.0.6V.DL17
    Kernel version 2.6.29
    Build number:  SCH-I400.DL17

I don't understand how the Fascinate has Android 2.2, but is discontinued and the Continuum is still being sold new. What is up with that Verizon? I like the Continuum but would like to see it upgraded.  I still have over a year till I can get a new phone too. Very confusing.
Sorry I can't help you with the picture messages as I don't have a solution.

And this goes on and on and on. Mail won't display any of this stuff correctly. I have HTML enabled in my mail settings. What else can I try to fix this issue?

So your Gmail account works fine for you when you just view it on the web through your browser, but you have this problem with attachments when you set up Apple Mail to view your Gmail account, is this correct? Just trying to clarify.
I'm not sure what's going on. I use Apple Mail with my cable ISP's email service and I use Yahoo and Gmail both, but I strictly view them using the web based interface. I've never tried to set up either one to be viewed in Apple Mail so I don't think I can offer much advice.
Correct me if I've wrongly assumed something about your question.

    Steve M.

  • Mac mail not displaying complete images

Hi. For some reason, mac mail (on Lion) has started to cut off images I receive on emails. It will display about the top 10% of the image and the rest in greyed out. I've tried opening the image on various bit of software and it's always the same. However, if I look at the same mail on the ipad then the image in the mail displays fine.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Mail 5.2 doesn't display embedded images

Mail 5.2 (OS 10.7.4) no longer displays  embedded images. This happened after I installed an AirportExtreme wireless router. I can send images as attachments, but received mail with images displays blue box with ?. Using "download image" has no effect. Mail/preferences/ has " Display remote images in HTML messages" checked. The answers to similar questions don't seem to apply, or I just don't understand them. Can anyone advise me?

    johngar wrote:
I have tried forwarding the incoming message from my iPhone, which does display the images correcty, and from another account on my desktop. In both cases the thumbnails contain only "?" and "download image" does not work.
Ignoring the forwarded message from the iphone, is the message you forwarded from another account also a message that was originated on your iphone?
The mail program on the iPhone, which is supposedly the same as the mail program on my desktop, displays the thumbnails correctly and they expand to give the full size image. I take this to mean that the fault is not with the source of the images. I don't know how to imbed images, as opposed to attachments, in my e-mail, so I can't produce my own example.
What makes you think the mac mail program and the iphone mail program are the same program?  I don't think that.
The reason I wanted you to send a message to yourself on your mac using the mac mail was I wanted to get the iphone out of the equation.  If you cannot embed images in the mail message that is because all image, etc. are handled as enlosures due to the way the mail protocol works.  Perhaps that is why messages from the iphone appear the way you are seeing them, i.e, there's no way to embed an image and the iphone mail is not converting it to an enclosure.
If you are going to test from an iphone try sending the image as an enclosure and see if mail can handle that.

  • Messenger Express 6 Unable to display embedded images

    Hi
Messenger Expresss seems tob unable to display embedded images (gif or jpeg) in the form cid:image.gif and some hosted images. In reference to the the cid:image.gif , when I open the email get an error from the browser that states "Warning: the application cid must be lauched to view this file." or something close to that. It gives me a choice of opening "cid" or canceling. There is also a check box "remember my choice for all files." which I choose and then I get an email full of broken image links.
I've tried this in Firefox and IE the routine is a bit different but the result is the same. No images displayed.
I also used a netflix email I recieved.. some of the images displayed some did not. The ones that did display were from www.netflix.com some of the others hosted on an image server somewhere in the netflix namespace did not.
I'm at a loss. If anyone can shed some light on this I'd be very thankful
    Erik

I was speaking about what client created the original mail messate.
The "error message" isn't very useful. Is the mail message itself is badly formed, then the problem lies with the client that created it.
You should be able to tell from the headers of the message.
If you have the message file on disk, examine it with a text editor. "Message file on disk" means the original file, as stored on the server as a xxx.msg file, not what any client might save to a local disk.
When we work these kinds of things as tech support cases, we start out with this file.
I have no idea what gmail does, so that's not really relevant.
Your IMAP client may be better at displaying badly formed messages than webmail is.

You're probably not going to like the answer: Welcome to HTML-based email, and web (browser- or mail-based) rendering incompatibilities and quirks.
Newer Microsoft Internet Explorer is (much) better than older releases, so see if a newer Windows client or a newer version of Outlook does better.
If you really want to see what's going on here, view the raw HTML that's getting generated, and see what Microsoft wants or uses or expects within Outlook, and send that.

  • Aperture 3 project does not display any images in one Project

This is a strange situation.  The bullets below outline the situation:
The project does not display any images
When I place the pointer over the project it shows there are 500+ images
I have located the RAW images stored in my aperture library
I can pull up the images using a smart folder and searching for photos taken on the event day
This is happening only to one of my projects that I know of (weird!!)
I have tried to 're-add' the image by both importing and dragging and dropping into the project, neither works
    I tried the following basics:
    Fixed permissions
    Rebuilt the database
Tried to re-import the data, but when I have the 'don't import duplicates' these are not an option
Found the images in my Aperture library
I created another project and drug all of the images into that project
Any idea how I can fix this?
My fear is that if I delete the original project, the original master images will be deleted.

The most common cause of this is some sort of stuff in the search box at the top of the browser that you don't expect to be there. Just clear it and all your images should show up.
    RB
One note - if you drug your images from one project to another it moves them vs copies them unless you hold down the option key.
