Mail not recognizing new certificate, recognizing old expired certificate.

Recently the Thawte certificate for the SSL mail server at work expired and Mail could no longer connect to our mail server. No one else in the office uses a Mac and no one else seemed to be affected. IT claimed all their certs were up to date. I contacted the fine folks at Thawte and they hooked me up with the new cert. I've added that to my X509Anchors keychain, along with the root cert from Thawte to be sure, and Mail is not recognizing it. In fact, the old expired cert is in my login keychain, so I delete it, but every time Mail attempts to connect to the mail server, the old expired cert reappears in my login keychain and it gives me the same "expired cert" error message. Temporary workaround has been to change my system date/time so it is within the valid dates of the old expired cert, but that renders my calendar useless, and other problems. What is going on? Any ideas? How can I get Mail to use the new valid cert?

Anna,
I am having the same issue. I am on a new laptop without my cert, so I downloaded it again from thawte but it only installs the public key, not the private key.

  • Mail not getting new mail

I have had my work account setup through Mail for almost 2 years without a problem. Today it stopped retrieving new emails. I went to Window...Connection Doctor and Connection Status is green and both for incoming and outgoing it shows green. I can send emails fine, but it won't retrieve new emails that I have received. I also get emails to this account through my phone and it is getting new incoming emails.
I have tried closing the app and restarting, doesn't work.
I have tried restarting the OS, doesn't work.
I haven't changed any settings in the past day, so its not a settings issue. That is unless Mail is now changing settings on its own.
What else can I do to solve this?

It does show in the bottom left that its connecting "Incoming messages..." and when it tries, it makes a tiny beep. Its not the "new email" sound, just a quiet, short beep. No idea what the sound means.

  • Mail not loading new gmail message

I have Apple Mail 4.3 and since 22 November it is not loading new gmail messages. New messages are appearing in gmail and iphone, but not in Mail - any ideas why this would be

I'm facing the same problem since 27 Dec 2010, can't find and fix for this problem.
I can download other mail accounts except imap.gmail.com, it just show loading and nothing happen, and it also choke up almost all my internet bandwidth.
I gave up and switched to outlook for mac and no such problem.
Hope apple can look into this problem and I'm sure there are more out there having same issue.

  • Mail not showing new messages

As of about 4 days ago my Mail app is not displaying new e-mails.  It says '19 incoming messages' but they never appear.  I have tried:
    - Replacing mail.plist with older version from time machine
    - Rebuilding mailboxes
    - Asking my web hosts if there is any problem their end - no problems there.
    - Checked the 'get account info' box which displays the 19 messages with 'unknown sender' still on the server.
    Any other ideas anyone?

    Hello jimjazzuk,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with email on your MacBook Pro.  You have already taken some good steps to isolate the issue to your MacBook Pro.  I recommend following the steps in the following article to continue isolating and troubleshooting the issue you are experiencing with Mail:

  • Mail not fetching new data every 15 with 3g turned off

I had to turn 3g off in order to improve my reception and battery life. It seems to help somewhat, however I notice that the Mail application does not fetch new mail every 15 minutes like its setup to do. It works fine in 3g mode, just doesnt do it while its on edge. (I think it also works ok on wifi.)

Perhaps your in an area with awesome 3g reception but really bad Edge. Weird huh.

  • Mac mail not refreshing new mail

    Hey
Is anyone else having problems with mail not updating when new ones arrive? I have to hit "get mail" even though I have the preferences set to check for new mail every 5mins. I am running mail 2.1.1.
    Can anyone assist?
    Thanks!

    Hi G Money.
Go to Preferences > Accounts > Advanced. Is Include when automatically checking for new mail ON or OFF?
BTW, please put the right information in the Computer Model and Operating System fields on your My Settings’s profile (and click Save), so that this essential information automatically appears in all your posts — you cannot be running Mac OS X 10.4.1 if the version of Mail is 2.1.1.

  • Mail not send, new twist

Qwest.net cancelled my email service without warning (yes, I was paid up- they just stopped offering that package!!) So I kept the Qwest.net basic ISP (no email boxes, just net access) and registered a domain with Emerald Web Host. I set up several new email boxes.
POP and SMTP server settings are
mail.mydomain.com or the numeric IP address provided by the host xx.xx.xxx.xxx. Server Option settings: no authorization, port 25 assigned. (I also tried it with authorization account, password in different combos with port 25, 110, 587. Different results, but let's stay with the no auth for now)
So, the usual story. POP works fine (incoming mail), SMTP (outgoing) returns error:
"Cannot send message using the server xx.xx.xxx.155.
The server response was: Adminstrative porhibition.
Try again using another server XYZ?." (XYZ doesn't send either).
Here's the twist - If I close the email (red button), choose Save as Draft, then open Drafts folder and select/open the email and click the send button . . . IT SENDS! Same story when connected via Comcast accross town, cafe' wireless, etc. Reproducable result. Sends from draft folder every time. What a hassle, though.
OK this is almost how Mail acted before with Quest.net. Incoming worked fine, Outgoing only worked if I clicked Get Mail just before Send Mail. At the the new host, I want send with one click instead of two or three.
Here is what I have done so far:
Trashed Launch Services plist and both cstor files
    Trashed Outbox.mbox
    repaired permissions
    System mainenance, all three (MacJanitor)
    relaunch mail
    restart
Host thinks it's an Apple Mail thang, but they would love to know how to advize customers for success.
Is Quest blocking port 25? I tried the local Qwest smtp server address. No send - I have no email account at Qwest and therefore, no username or password.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance
    -B

Hi, Allen - thanks for reply, you seem to take on this issue all the time.
Re older issue of need to Get Mail before successful send: At that time, Qwest was ISP and email provider. The need to collect mail prior to successful send varied in time. Some times the send would work for a minute or two after a Get Mail, sometimes not. Never more than 5 or 10 minutes, though. I guess the authentication timed out at different rates.
Re new "Save to Draft" twist: Qwest is ISP, Emerald is webhost. I spoke with Qwest (misspelled earlier as "quest") techsupport: no restrictions at Qwest on port 25, nor any other special requirements of smtp servers outside of Qwest network. I have 5 email email accounts on my webhost. Of the 5, 4 need Save to Draft for successful send. 1 sends successfully each time (at least today). I can copy the setting format to the 4, but they still need Save to Draft for send. Get Mail prior to Send does not help.
Mail Preference Settings for the one that works:
    Account Information
    Outgoing Server: mail.domain name
    Server Setting
    Port 25
    SSL off
    Authentication -None
(if set for Password w/ID and PW filled, then Save as Draft still needed)
    Advanced Settings
    Enable Y
    Include for auto check Y
Remove copy from server Right away Y
    Prompt for large message N
    Port: 110 SSL N
    Auth: Password
Sometimes a Send results in a 15 second spin of the Send progress dial thingy instead of the server error message, and then an outbox appears with the message in it. Otherwise, there is no outbox icon visible in my sidebar. Is that how Mail is supposed to work - no outbox unless there are messages qued for send?
My next step is to remake each "bad" mailbox at host and at each account in my Mail. I already did this once, to no avail, but it may be worth another try.
    OR other suggestion?

  • Mail not receiving new mail

can anyone help im not recieving any new emails but i can send emails ...... i tryed to uninstall the email address that didnt help..... i tryed the doctor connection test it said that im connected??/??????
    pls can anyone help

Same problems here. Glad I'm not the only one.
After looking at the Activity window, this is what it displays:
    http://screencast.com/t/NWU4N2Q5M
The Connection Doctor just says that all accounts were able to log in successfully, so no help there.
After clicking on the Stop Sign icon beside the stuff in the activity window (which effectively "stops" that task it's beside), I can then right click and "synchronize" my Exchange account and it receives all messages immediately, including the inbox. It's a work around, but I'm not sure that just command+Q and reopen wouldn't be easier.
It appears that a receive action just freezes up, which is why a resync before you kill the first sync doesn't fix it and a quit+restart does. As a side note, I can send messages through Exchange just fine when this receive lockup occurs.
Apple, please look into this...you have a better mail client than M$, but at least theirs stays connected.

  • Mail not showing new mail until I switch out of and back into INBOX

When new mail is downloaded, the messages do not appear in the INBOX until I have moved to (clicked on) another mailbox and then moved back to INBOX. The unread message count reflects the correct number of unread messages until the above procedure has been followed. Similarly, when messages are moved to another mailbox, the messages sometimes do not leave the INBOX list until the same procedure is followed. This is a relatively recent problem (last couple of months, I think). Any ideas?

  • Mail not receiving new email messages.

The Mail application on my 2006 MacBook has stopped retrieving new messages. The Mac is running 10.5.8, and the Mail is version 3.6. I have not made any changes to the mail preferences in years. I have two email accounts configured: my Gmail as well as my university email account.  Comcast is my internet provider. About a week ago, the incoming email was slow to update. I would click "Get Mail", and it would pull in only 4-5 emails at a time. I would re-click "Get Mail" several times until all the new mail was retrieved. But for the past 4 days, no new mail is coming in.  When I click on "Get Mail", the wheel next to both accounts spin like they are working, but nothing happens. There is no error message given (such as "no internet connection"). I have tried the mailbox "rebuild" on both accounts several times, as well as rebooting the computer. (When in doubt, reboot!).
The outgoing emails I send from Mail are being received by the recipients, so I know the connection is working in that direction!  The Comcast internet is working, and I can log in to my Gmail account through the web and view my emails there just fine. I'm also receiving the new emails on my iPod Touch. So, I know there are new emails, but they are not coming to my MacBook.
    Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestions, BDAqua. Unfortunately, the new mail is still not coming in.  I am still able to send mail out through Mail (I did another "test" mail to myself, then checked it on Gmail.com).
A couple of comments & questions (to make sure I was doing things correctly):
The "Connection Doctor" had all green dots. So, that all looks OK.
What do I do with the Mail folder and Envelope Index file that I had moved to my desktop during the Safe Boot? Right now, they are just still sitting on my desktop while in normal start-up mode.
When you said "redo to Rules", I moved the two files you mentioned into the trash. Is this what I was supposed to do? Should I "empty trash" to make sure they are gone?
After I ran through your suggestions once, I did the "safe boot" again and re-ran the Disk Utility "Repair Permissions". Of the things it found, none seem to be Mail related. But, just for kicks, I'll paste the results log below.
Any other ideas? I am able to get my mail through Gmail.com, so it's not the end of the world if I never get this fixed. Just annoying!

  • Mail not receiving new emails

Since installing the latest update my Mail won't receive any new emails from my business account run through gmail.
    [email protected]
Receiving fine on iPhone and through Thunderbird.
Is anyone else having issues with Mail?
    Regards

I am having the same problems. I am not receiving email to one of the six addresses I have in Mail. Ever since I updated to Mavericks, I've had problems with Apple Mail. I checked the activity and conneciton doctor, everything is green and connection is fine, but no email. I only receive the message if I quit mail and restart.
I've been using apple for 10 years, and in the last year or so noticed they are going the way of windows in that there programs don't "just work" anymore. There are more and more issues creeping up with each new update.

  • Mail Not Sorting new Folders Added Alphbetically

Hello! I have tons of sub folders in my inbox, and I would like it to sort them all alphabetically. This was all fine, but recently the last 6 folders I added to the list were appended to the bottom of the list, and not sorted alphabetically with the rest of the sub folders. Is there anyway I can reapply the sort alphabetically feature to the folder list? I cannot seem to find it anywhere.
    Troubleshooting steps I have taken:
    1) Closed and restarted Mail App
    2) Restarted Computer
    3) Added another new folder and it is still appended to bottom of list even after all the reboots
    4) Mail is confirmed to work
Any help would be great. Thanks!

    Hi,
I'm not sure, but I suspect the new Snow Leopard feature ...
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/refinements/enhancements-refinements.html#mail
... that lets you move folders around manually might be what's causing the weird behavior.
In Leopard, you could move a folder inside another folder but, otherwise, they would always stay in alphabetical order, I think.
Anyways, in Snow Leopard (and Leopard for that matter), there's an invisible file around ~/Library/Mail/<name of your email account>/.mboxCache.plist It seems to keep a list of the mboxes in that folder/account. In Snow Leopard, the first time you manually move an mbox out of alphabetical order, a new key called MailboxDisplayOrder seems to get created in that plist for all the existing "non-special" (i.e. not INBOX, Sent, Drafts, etc.) mboxes in that folder. Once that key exists, it seems like new folders get appended to the end of the order.
I don't know the right way to fix the problem though. I'm really just posting my observations, based on what I'm seeing on my computer. I'd be very careful about manually messing with invisible files in your mail, especially if you don't have a good backup. (No idea if you can restore an invisible file with Time Machine.) A lot of this is guesswork. But I thought maybe it'd help someone.
    Later,
    k

  • Mail not showing new emails

    Hi all
Since installing Lion my Mac mail program has undergone some changes, mainly for the better, but one is really bugging me.
When i received new mail under Leopard i used to get a blue dot by the inbox etc and a number count on the mail icon in the taskbar.
Now i don't get either unless i select count all boxes in the prefferences which is good except any mail in other boxes does not get hightlighted so i have to search manualy throught them to find the unread mail.
    Anyone else having this problem?
I have tried rebuilding, selecting inbox only and all boxes to be counted but still have same problem.
The new email sound works but nothing visual.!!!
    Cheers
    Kev

any luck with your problem TSG?

  • Notes in Mail not saving, new notes can't be created

Ok, so for awhile I was using the Notes feature in Mail (10.5; all fully updated) to get off of Stickies which are apparently bad (and non-Syncable)... All was well until I realized that changes to Notes weren't being saved and when I create a new Note, hit Done, it doesn't save. I'm trying to save these to my .Mac account, so it should be a space or perms issue.
    Thoughts?

I click the Note button, nothing happens. The feature is completely out of service. I don't understand. Am I missing something obvious? I have tried the keystrokes too, no reaction at all, no errors, just can't use Notes, at all! rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Please help.
