Mail not responding after restored from TM

I restored full data from a MacBook to a brand new MBP today using Time Machine.  Everything looks fine except for Mail.
It simply doesn't respond.  I already deleted all accounts from System Preferences but when I close and
open that screen, all accounts are back there, even though I am not syincing with MobileMe.  Any hints?

I dont think its a hardware fault at all, but i'm not a "Genious". Any suggestion!

Issue solved with visit to Genius Bar.
As I understand it here are the steps the Genius did. Attempt to create the account (system preferences->users) with the same information. It will say it already exists. Very carefully read the options. One will say use the existing account. BE CAREFUL because one option will wipe your data.
If you need to do this it might be worth the trip to the Genius Bar as you could wipe your data. One precaution I took was to bring a full copy of that user account onto my desktop (from the backup immediately before the wipe) in addition to the one in the user folder. Once we verified that the account was working I moved the desktop copy to the trash and again verified the account (just to be safe).
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • Mail not responding after update to 10.10.3

I am having problems with the mail and its not responding? any ideas?
I tried deleting com.apple.mail.savedState method and it didn't work at all.

Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
If Mail crashes or freezes immediately on launch, try the steps suggested on this page. Sometimes a corrupt message on a mail server can be deleted by logging in to the server through its web page. If Mail still won't launch, skip to Step 3.
    Step 2
Select all your mailboxes, and then select
              Mailbox ▹ Export Mailbox...
from the Mail menu bar. Export the mailboxes to the Desktop folder.
Make a note of the settings for all your Mail accounts – everything you'd need to reconstruct the settings from scratch.
    Quit Mail.
    Step 3
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. Move the following items (some may not exist) from the folder that opens to the Desktop:
              Application Support/AddressBook/MailRecents-v4.abcdmr
              Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
              Containers/com.apple.mail
              Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
              Mail
Note: you are not moving the Mail application. You’re moving a folder named “Mail.”
Launch Mail. It will behave as if you were setting it up for the first time. Go through the setup process with one of your accounts, using the information you noted earlier. Test. If Mail works now, recreate the rest of your settings.
If there’s no improvement, quit Mail and put back the items you moved to the Desktop, replacing any newer ones that may have been created in their place. Stop here and post your results.
    Step 4
This step should not be necessary with IMAP or Exchange mailboxes, because they synchronize automatically with the server. Nevertheless, if the mailboxes are very large, importing them may spare you the need for a long download.
If you took Step 2, import the mailboxes you exported:
              File ▹ Import Mailbox...
Select Apple Mail as the data type.
If you skipped Step 2, look inside the Mail folder on the Desktop for a subfolder Mail/V2/Mailboxes. Import the mailboxes it contains.
Test. If Mail is still working, delete the items you moved to the Desktop in Step 3.

  • Pages 5.1 not responding after updated from AppStore

I've update my Pages app to v.5.1 in my MacBook Pro and I can't open it after updated. When I open it, it still not responding all time. I've replace Pages app with older version and it can open but I can't open my newer version document that I've edited on New iMac. Anybody can help me? I have to use an iCloud beta now. Thank you

In Pages 5 .plists are now stored within the application bundle.
I will resist telling you to trash any because I am not sure if there are consequences doing so. With Pages '09 it was fine, but they weren't part of the application.
You can validate fonts in Font Book:
select all the fonts > Menu > File > Validate Fonts > turn off or remove those that report errors etc
Also try starting PAges holding down the shift key in case it is simply a damaged Pages file.

  • Canon LiDE 100 does not respond after wake from sleep

I have a Canon LiDE 100 flatbed scanner. I constantly put my iMac to sleep and only ever shut it down once every few weeks.
    When the computer wakes from sleep the scanner does not respond. Image Capture lists the scanner in the device list but reports the following error;
"An error occurred whilst communicating with the scanner"
I have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in for it to work (or restart the computer, both always work).
Since I only moved to the Macintosh in July I have no idea how to uninstall drivers to give myself a fresh start and the scanner does not come with an uninstall utility.
Any suggestions on how to fix this little problem?
    Thanks.

I am going to respond to my self and say I am nuts.
Canon does not seem to have any uninstaller for this scanner on their site:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDet ailTabAct&fcategoryid=351&modelid=17104
Which is rather odd since they have installers. this is different from most of their other older scanners. But if you just plugged in our scanner and things worked in OSX, which it should have, then you should be OK.
However I can confirm that others see this issue (like my dad) and here is the official Canon response to the issue:
    +Dear XXXX:+
+In some cases, coming out of sleep mode may not properly reinitialize+
+the USB bus on Macintosh Operating Systems. Unfortunately, the only+
+work around when this happens is to restart the computer.+
Of course this in not exactly true as logging out and back in fixes it.

  • Billtracker not working after restore from iCloud

i recently performed a restore from the icloud.  Everything worked well except the app BillTracker.  when i start it, it tells me its downloading from the icloud and never completes the download.    I've even tried deleting the app and restarting it specifying i have data in the icloud.  I've verified and i do see the data from the app.  I've used the app for several years and would hate to loose the history i've built.  Any suggestions?

I'm so happy to hear you are now up and running. Thank you for the feedback.
In my case it wasn't a Lion thing. I had two external Snow Leopard clones and one Lion clone. None would accept my password. My other Mini with identical hardware happily booted the other swapped external Lion and Snow Leopard clones.
To add to the mystery the Mini that threw the password hissy fit booted with no complaining from two external Snow Leopard clones a few months earlier when a dead internal hard drive was replaced.
I don't think the issue is common or we would see many more posts from people having correct passwords rejected when restoring from their Time Machine backups or booting from clones. I reported the password issue I had to AppleCare but I couldn't offer any insight as to what triggered the problem.

  • Events and Projects not opening after Restoring from broken Hard drive.

    Hi all!
I have a major problem. After almost 3 months editing 6 projects within the same library the hard drive died. These projects are for a very important client and are worth a lot of time and money. We always backup all the raw material on 3 hard drives so we do have all the raw material, however FCPX for some reason had stopped making backups of the projects after it was updated to 10.1.2.  (The loss of these projects could mean the downfall of my production company.) We had a professional data recovery company recover all the data to a new hard drive without any problem, we can see the libraries and open them, HOWEVER the events and projects within the libraries DO NOT OPEN OR SHOW UP.
I have entered into the library in the finder and everything seems to be there, all the events files show up. But FCPX wont recognize them.
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks, Tom
You can see here that everything is inside the library folder.
But they don't show up in FCPX.
    P.S
Also this file is showing up only after the data was restored.

The journal files are something that've been generated by the data recovery. It's completely hosed the data base.
I don't know if this will work. Try carefully removing all the journal files. Put them somewhere else in folders with the location where they came from. Also move out the currentversion.flexolibrary file. Hopefully without the flexolibrary file the application will generate a new one.  Then launch the application.
WHy did you continue to operate when there were no backups, without even a hard drive backup?
Wwhat version of the software are you using? 10.1.2?

  • Mail not viewable after switching from ADSL to LAN

My friend has a mac.com account. MacBook using 10.5.6 on a 2GHz Core 2 Duo. She can access it via me.com. But just after she used her Mac at my house, her wireless (Yahoo Japan) failed to recognize her computer. (My wireless worked with her machine, but when she got home, hers no longer did) Yahoo told her to try LAN. Lan works, but now when she opens her MAIL program, she cannot see any view of her mailbox. MAIL version 3.5 (930.3)
I tried deleting her PList and restarting. No go. I tried to delete her mail account and re-enter. Did not get the automatic ADD new account, but clicked PLUS and entered email data (mac.com). Jus spins forever looking for server but never finds it. Tried using MY mac account. Same. Tried using a non Mac account. Same. And cannot quit program. Must use FORCE QUIT.
So now I am thinking of reinstalling program, unless there are some other things to do first.
One question I have is what advantage there is to using PACIFIST as opposed to just using he CUSTOM install option from the Install disk? (This is the Leopard Install disk, not the Tiger disk that came with her MAC). As far as I can see both ways let you install a single program.
And is that the next best thing to do? Or should I try something else first?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Mail not working after restore

At the suggestion of a Mac Genius, I restored my iPhone after experiencing intermittent LCD display issues. After the restore, the phone would not send email, stating that one or more of the recipients email addresses was not valid. After I while, I realized that it is also not receiving email over 3G, although it did over wifi. Now after wiping out the accounts and resyncing the phone with my MBP, I'm still getting nothing, not even wifi, nor can I send anything. Not sure what's going on here. Everything (settings, etc.) looks exactly like it was prior to the restore... (...which btw was a bit of a mess in itself. My App Icons were all over the place, emails that had been previously read were now unread...) Any help? Thanks.

After a couple of trips to the Apple Store, and some calls to my ISP just to make sure I was doing everything right, I believe that the problem lies in the 10.5.5 changes to Mail.
I could not set up a new Mail account through my ISP on either my iPhone, my MBP, or the Apple Store's computers. Yet, I was able to easily do so using Mozilla's Thunderbird.
I hope that the 10.5.6 update fixes this.

  • IPod not recognized after restoring from Mac format.

    Hey,
I used my old iPod photo with my Mac for a long time. Recently I got a new iPod video and enjoy it a lot. I ended up selling my old iPod to my dad on the conditions that I had to put all the music on there for him .
Anyway, I know that Mac formatted iPods aren't recognizable on Windows PC's. Thus, I restored my old iPod to its original factory settings using the iPod software updater/restorer before trying to load my dad's library from the PC. However, the iPod is still not being recognized by the PC. And when I try the update/restore on the PC it says "iPod service error." It does show up in the "My Computer" folder, however it says the disk must be formatted. If I formatted it manually on the PC and then tried restore on the PC would it then work?
    Thanks.

NEVERMIND. IGNORE TOPIC. My issue has been resolved.

  • Mail not responding after migration assistant to new mbp

I just got a new macbook pro, and migrated everything except applications via time machine from my old macbook (both with up-to-date snow leopard).
When i try to open Mail, it pops up saying it will import all my old mail - this completes and i press 'done' - however the main mail window pops up with an empty inbox and automatically i get the rainbow wheel which goes on indefinitely; more than an hour. I've tried several times and this is what happens, can't access anything.
How do i resolve this? is it best to delete all my mail first, open mail and then import from time machine? if so, how do i delete mail manually?

Not sure why this did not work. If you want to do over, then in the Finder remove the Mail folder at Home/Library/Mail, and the com.apple.mail.plist file at Home/Library/Preferences. Then copy those files from the time machine.

  • Why does my purchased songs not play after restoring from iCloud?

I recently had to exchange my iPhone 4 after having a problem with my lock button. When I restored my purchased items from iCloud none of my purchased songs or movies would work. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem without having to redownload each item?

Does the music appear to be on the iPhone, but won't play?
My iPhone did this after an iCloud backup. If the music is shown but won't play then:
On the iPhone go to settings> general > usage> then delete all of the music. After you've done this sync your iPhone to your iTunes and they should all go back onto the phone and work. ( make sure that all the music is in your iTunes library first)

  • User not showing after restoring from time machine backup

I was having issues with my 2009 Macbook pro. took it to the Genius Bar. Diagnosistics all showed ok. (I had done troubleshooting before I had the appointment). They suggested wipe and reinstalll from my time machine backup. I agreed.
Returned home to do the reinstall. When I went to log in found that one of my user accounts did not show in the log in - only my main and "guest" accounts. On checking the "users" folder the user is present. It also does not show in the system preferences user screen but when I try to recreate it says it exists. Note I have done this wipe and reinstall with Mavericks
Help! Most of the content I have on my main BUT there are several things that are not.

  • Iphone not recognised after restore from time machine?

    Hi folks,
I suffered hard drive failure earlier this week and Apple installed a new one for me with the same OS as before (Leopard).
I restored a six month old backup via time machine, but the computer isn't now recognising my iPhone - either in iTunes or iPhoto. In the six months since I last backed up, I upgraded my handset from a 3GS with software 3.01 to a 4S with the newest software; could this be why my Macbook isn't recognising the phone? I don't know what to do, I've tried all the basic stuff the Apple site advises but no luck and I could do without a trip to a genius bar unless absolutely necessary
    Thanks in advance.

I have also tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling Mobile Device Support - no luck.

  • ILife 08 will not launch after restore from backup

I had installed iLife 08 on a new mbp, when the screen stopped working so I thought I would try reinstalling the operating system. I backed up all my apps using apples .mac backup to a hard drive, reinstalled, and then tried to restore the apps. My problem is that none of the 08 versions of ilife are opening now, includiong iphoto. I don't have my install cds with me, otherwise I would use those. Does anybody know what to do so that these apps will launch? They appear for a second in the dock and then vanish... Thanks for any help.

iLife requires 10.4.10, I believe. Have you updated back to that OS?
