Mail not saving messages in Sent if previously in Drafts

This question was already posed several months ago but not really answered so I am trying it again.
I sometimes save a draft message in the draft folder only to send it later. Often it is the case that this previously saved draft does not appear in the Sent folder after being sent. I use IMAP settings and have four accounts running simultaneously. Other than in this case, mail is saved consistently in the sent folder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Gerry

Thanks for discovering this issue being connected to drafts. I have trouble with this for a couple of months as well.
Since you assume it to be connected to "drafts", I suggest to deselect "Store draft messages on the server" for your IMAP-Account. I just did this for myself, to see if it helps, and can't give you results yet. Maybe you just wanna try simultaneously. I guess, the reason for our problem could me some messy communication between Mail and the server, where one party get's confused.

  • Mail not saving messages?

I'm trying to use my iPhone for reading a PDF so I sent it to my email account and got it on my iPhone. It downloads just fine and I get through some of it (it's 48 pages and counting, but only 104kb) but then I get a new mail message. I go out to read that one, do some more things in mail like look at another inbox or something like that, and then return to my PDF and it's gone. It's downloading the message from the server again. Does iPhone not save the messages it downloads? It happens to me on all of my messages too. This is a Gmail account I have synched up with my iPhone.
    What's going on?

  • Mail deception - says messages are sent out but are not delivered

The Mail program appears to send my outgoing e-mail messages but does not actually do so. When I send a new message or reply to a message, Mail behaves as though the message has been sent: the spinner runs and the swoosh sound occurs when the message leaves my Outbox. The message then appears in my Sent folder. However, the mail is never received by the intended recipients. I apparently operated like this for weeks until my sister mentioned my lack of response to her e-mail a couple of weeks prior. (Honest, I really did reply.) Upon investigation I learned that others had not received messages I had sent. I then tried sending a message to myself at the same account and at my work account (different ISP) and the messages were not received.
I am using a POP account at core.com. If I access my account via the core.com webmail site, I am able to actually send messages. Getting them from the Mail program on my computer is the problem.
I noticed several other questions posted about Mail not sending messages but those queries mentioned receiving an error message or the program timed out trying to send and knowing immediately the mail was not sent. My situation seems unique in that the program is behaving deceptively - it tells me a message is sent but it is not.
I followed the steps Apple posted regarding Leopard Mail not sending messages but no success. I am using OS X5.6 on an Intel MacBook.
I have spoken with the core.com technical support staff and they assure me the problems is with the Mail program or my iMac. They are most likely correct. As an experiment I set up MS Entourage as an e-mail client for my core.com account. Entourage had no trouble sending messages to intended recipients.
I have double and triple checked the settings in Mail Preferences. The core.com technical support representative confirmed I am using the correct settings and suggested I use a different e-mail client program and forget about Apple Mail. However, I understand it is not possible to export information from Mail to a different e-mail client program so I am reluctant to make the change. The representative also suggested I remove Mail and reinstall it as a way of possibly correcting the problem. I do not want to go that route if I can avoid doing so. If that is the best approach, how do I go about saving my messages and addresses in Mail before removing Mail? Other suggestions to get Mail to behave properly?
    Thank you!

I am thinking your messages have been sent, but stopped somewhere along the path of server, perhaps even by your provider, due to some sudden lack of trust of your messages or identity.
Try sending a message only in Plain Text -- you could simply open one of your messages to your sister, click on Message in the menubar and choose Send Again. Then before sending click on Format, and choose Make Plain Text. Before sending click on Window and choose Activity. Watch the report of Activity as transmission of the message should be taking place.
Do you use a Signature, and if so, does it contain any links or HTML? Also, do this test only with a message you composed, and not one you Forwarded or a Reply.

  • Mail not saving sent email

This just started on March 12, no apparent reason that I can find.  The account is a POP, preferences are set to never delete.  Kind of annoying! Thanks for any suggestions...
    OS 10.6.8, Macbook Pro 2.33  Mail 4.5 (1084)

My primary email account is IMAP and I have just found what I suspect are all the messages that were not saved in my "sent" folder either on my iMac or ISP server. They were in the "Sent" folder of my secondary, little-used Hotmail account and the recipients "saw" these as originating from this account rather than the one from which I actually sent them. After some testing, I discovered that, for my primary account, the "always use this server" box was not checked. I surmise that, if the Mail app has trouble using the server associated with my primary account, it simply uses the Hotmail server (this would be consistent with the delay before hearing the "whooshing"noise). What does surprise me is that, if this Hotmail server has been used, the recipient sees the message as originating from Hotmail. Is this what is supposed to happen?

  • MAC Mail not saving all sent items

    Hi,
I'm using OS X 10.6.7 and using MAC Mail over an IMAP connection.
For some reason this particular MAC Mail is not saving / recording all sent emails. The recipient is receiving them all so they've definitely been sent, but they're not appearing in the sent items / sent folders.
I have tried exactly the same IMAP account on another OS X 10.6.7 mac and ALL emails appear in the sent items.
It seems there is a fault / bug with the MAC Mail. Is there any hotfixes out there or any steps to try to ensure evry sent email is logged / saved in the sent folders?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Chris,
I have nearly the exact problem. The only thing I have noticed is it only seems to happen with the first email I have sent out. I can have the mail program open for awhile and do other things but when I write a new email and send it, it doesn't show up in Sent. It also happens if my first email is a Reply. I have to write to the person I sent the email to and ask them to forward it back to me so I have a copy!
All subsequent emails are saved in my Sent folder.
I cannot yet consistently repeat the problem. Saving the mail in the Sent folder works 95% of the time.
I think because it is the first email I send out it catches me off guard. I usually open the mail program and start typing a new email, send it and then go about doing other things, then later I realize it's gone. I even check the online mail at me.com and it's never there either.
This all started maybe 2-3 months ago.

  • Send mail not saved

I work with a couple of (imap) mail accounts. Receiving and sending mail is ok but the mail I send through those imap accounts is not saved in the directory sent items. Only the mail send by my apple account is saved.
I don't how to fix this problem? (I've tried deleting the accounts and make new accounts).
Neither Apple support or my ISP did not have a solution.

I guess I figured it out. My settings were saving sent email to server (I was really convinced this was the right setting). By changing this setting my sent mail is saved in the sent directory.

What are your Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox
    Behaviors > Sent settings?
    In the Finder, go to
    ~/Library/Mail/IMAP-username@mailserver/
. With that folder open, do Edit > Select All
(⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it
in your reply to this post to let me see the names of
the files and folders it contains -- you may disguise
any mailbox names you wish to keep private.
Note: For those not familiarized with the
~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home

  • Mail not saving sent messages, not moving Junk messages

Hi everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble with OS Mail. I've set it up to use an IMAP account, and have set my preferences such that Mail should save all my sent messages in the Sent folder (I assume the Sent folder on my computer, not the one on my IMAP server). Regardless, neither my IMAP server's sent folder nor my computer's sent folder contain any messages that I've sent, and I have confirmed that these messages have in fact been received by the recipients (therefore successfully sent). I am unsure of how to resolve this issue, as there is no obvious setting change for me to persue. I just received this computer (new) a few days ago, so I wouldn't expect this problem to be due to disk maintenance/management, etc.
Also, I have noticed that Junk messages remain highlighted and in my inbox. I changed my prefs to have these messages be placed in my Junk Mail folder. Mail asked me whether I wanted to apply that preference to older messages marked as junk that have yet to be put in the folder; I indicated yes. Nothing happened, and the Junk Mail folder remained empty (until I manually moved the messages to it). Any ideas?
I have searched the forums for related issues and could only find problems that had an associated error message with it; my issue is different in that there are no error messages; Mail is simply ignoring my preferences. Thanks in advance,
    Vic

In OS X Mail, this sent folder appears as a subdirectory
(sub "mailbox"?) under my "Inbox" mailbox along with
other folders that are mapped on my IMAP account.
This means you haven't set up your account properly. You probably should set Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > IMAP Path Prefix to INBOX, or something like that.
After putting the right string in the IMAP Path Prefix field, either the IMAP folders will appear somewhere else in Mail (i.e. not as subfolders of Inbox), or your problem will have already been fixed. Let me know what happens.
I should probably mention (just realized) that in my
account settings, my outgoing SMTP server is set to
be my ISP's server (which is different from my IMAP
    provider).
I wonder if, by selecting "save messages on server"
I am saving these messages somewhere on my ISP?
Mail should still save the sent messages where you've told it to. It's Mail, not the SMTP server, that stores the sent messages. The SMTP server has no bearing on this, but it was a good idea to consider that possibility, nevertheless.
When I uncheck this option, perhaps my mail will
be stored on my local computer instead?
Yes, that's what would happen, but don't uncheck that option if you really want your sent messages to be stored on the IMAP server, or do it temporarily, so that Mail does at least save them somewhere until we fix the problem, but I believe I already know what the problem is.

  • Mail not saving sent Exchange messages

Sort of an odd bug. Mail isn't saving messages from my laptop locally. It will save anything I send from my iPhone to the server and I can view them fine on my laptop in the sent folder. However, if I send it from my laptop, it will not save anywhere. Ideas?

Nevermind. I figured it out. I had migrated from an IMAP version of this particular account to an Exchange version. I was still listing the IMAP version of the account as the outgoing server. I changed that to the Exchange outgoing server and it's all set.

  • Mail not saving sent messages

I've noticed that Mail is not saving my sent messages. I started to notice this yesterday. It's very erratic though. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I have the option selected in preferences to Store Sent Messages on the Server (my .mac account).
Any idea what is going on? I even checked my .mac Sent Mesages folder using WebMail and they're not there either.

    You're welcome.
With a .Mac or IMAP type account, you can save Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server instead of locally on the hard drive.
Messages in a .Mac or IMAP type account's Inbox mailbox remain on the server until deleted from the account's Inbox mailbox or moved from the Inbox mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" mailbox or deleted from the server using webmail access.
You can also create additional mailboxes that will be stored on the server.
Messages in the account's Inbox mailbox and in any other mailboxes stored on the server are synchronized with the Mail.app and with other email clients.
With POP type accounts, received/incoming messages are downloaded by the Mail.app and by other email clients. You can choose when messages are deleted from the server when downloaded by the Mail.app and by other email clients but you cannot store Drafts, Sent, Trash or Junk messages on the server or create any additional mailboxes that are stored on the server.
A .Mac or IMAP type account is beneficial for those who access their email account with multiple computers and want to keep all mailboxes for the account synchronized on each computer.
For example, you have a Desktop at work but also travel with an iBook or PowerBook. If you have a .Mac or IMAP type account and select save Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server in Mail on both Macs, all mailboxes for the account will be kept synchronized in Mail on both Macs. Messages sent with the iBook when traveling will be available on the Desktop Mac in the office and vice-versa.

  • Mail not saving sent messages (in the year 2015)

I recently switched from Entourage to Mac Mail (I know, I know) on my laptop running 10.10.1, but have been increasingly annoyed with Mail's inability to save Sent mail at random times. I use Mail with only ONE e-mail account (Comcast IMAP), and yet it often takes FOREVER to send an e-mail and then there is no record of it. This is causing me all sorts of problems professionally and personally. I started looking into this only to find that it seems to be a longstanding issue with no solution. Has anyone solved this? I am contemplating going back to Entourage, which is RIDICULOUS.

Have continued to look into this, and it looks like this affects IMAP accounts only. It sounds like you need to specify for Mail exactly WHERE it needs to save messages, even if you're only using one account, like I am. I found these directions on a site called Media Temple, and am trying them (I know some folks have said some of these options are grayed out, but I did have a Sent folder nested inside my Inbox that this process worked for). Will update here if this does not seem to solve the problem (it takes a while to test changes because this problem appears randomly).
Q: Emails sent in Mail do not appear in my Sent Folder, why?
A: When using IMAP, as we recommend for the Grid, Mail requires you provide a specific folder to save sent messages. Follow these simple steps to configure this:
Click and highlight the "Sent" folder for your account.
    Click the "Mailbox" menu
    Choose "Use This Mailbox For"
    Choose "Sent"
This will configure Mail to save new outgoing emails to the sent folder for your account. If you want your previously sent emails to appear they must be dragged from Mail's local Sent folder to the Sent folder listed under your account.

  • Sent E-mails Not Saved In Sent Folder

A while back I posted a topic about randomly sent e-mails not being saved in the Apple Mail Sent folder. At the time I thought it had something to do with AOL. BTW, I am using Apple Mail to access AOL's e-mail servers.
I am also using Apple Mail to access the e-mail servers for a web account I have with Your-Site.com. The same thing happened. I was sending an e-mail with a 6MB attachment. The Apple Mail status bar was holding steady at the half way mark. But it was not moving for about 2-3 minutes. Eventually the status bar disappeared. I checked my Sent folder and the e-mail I sent was not listed. No error messages. I did happen to bbc myself to another e-mail account that I have and it did make it there. But I have no idea if the e-mail was received by the company who I addressed it to.
I sent a follow-up e-mail to ask if they have received it but have not heard anything back.
Should I assume they got it since the bbc was successful?
Also, is it possible for randomly sent e-mails not to be saved in the Apple Mail Sent folder? And if so, why is that?

I have the same problem, and I think my mail is an older version 1.3.11 (I don't know why it's not updated though!!) Anyway... it's very frustrating, but I know that even it's not copied in the sent forder, the recipient receive the message. But We don't have any proof until the recipient reply or tell us that he had it. I could say that 97% of my message are copied in the sent folder and the other 3% is lost I don't know where... Why ? I don't understand... I there a probleme with the server .mac or the Mail app. ???
    Thank you

  • Not saving copy of sent messages.

Hi, I used to have my mail account set up as an Imap but I started to get a lot of messages come into my mailbox with text missing in the subject or sender lines and even have the content be empty. I switched it to a pop account and all that stopped. Lately, I've missed having the messages stay on my server so I can check them again from work the next day so I set up an imap account again. It is working (about one week) but I'm having two issues. Sometimes the missing text issue is happening again but more annoying is that when I am typing a message, I keep getting a message that says 'this message cannot be saved'. The message is being sent but it is was not saving it in my sent messages folder. I had originally set it up to keep sent messages on the server and when this error message started, my ISP suggested I change that. I did and it stopped. But today, it started again, but not with every message. One I sent out a half hour ago shows up in my sent mail folder on my computer. However, I was just working on another message and got the error message. I sent the message but their is not a copy in my sent folder.
    Any thoughts??

    BellaMichelle,
After re-reading your post, I believe one of your
problems (the one that annoys you most) is related to
the Drafts mailbox. Do you have "Store draft messages
on the server" enabled in Preferences > Accounts >
    Mailbox Behaviors?
Yes I do.. should I have it or not??
Regarding the other problem about messages not being
displayed properly, what are your "Keep copies of
    messages for offline viewing"
this says All messages and their attachments
    and "Automatically
    synchronize changed mailboxes" settings in
Preferences > Accounts > Advanced for this
    account?
    this is not checked.
David, you said you get the error
message but I am not clear if your messages are
    being
saved or not... I am guessing not.
No, I didn't say anything like that. Actually, I
don't use IMAP myself other than for testing purposes
or when one of my accounts gives me problems when
    used as POP.
Sorry, a fellow posted after you saying he had the same problem using his imap and I thought it said David.

  • Sent mail not saved

I have a problem with MAIL.  Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my SENT emails are not being saved.  I selected my POP account mailbox under the SENT mailbox, and went to the MAILBOX pulldown, then selected USE THIS MAILBOX FOR, but SENT is not selectable.
How do I get my sent mails to be saved in my Sent box.

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • Mail not saving IMAP drafts or outgoing messages

I've searched the HELP topics and have not seen how to solve this problem. I have multiple accounts set up in Mail; a couple are yahoo.com/sbcglobal.net accounts and a couple are through two different companies for which I work. Most of them are set up as POP accounts, and they are behaving properly. The problem is with the one that is set up as an IMAP account. It successfully sends and receives mail, but it will not save drafts or the outgoing mail. I realize I can blind-copy myself and have the messages saved as incoming, but I'd really like them saved as drafts and outgoing. Thanks for any advice!

    Hi Dantedelg,
If you are having an issue with your MacBook Air's Mail application not saving the Sent mail, you may want to check your Mail Preferences under Accounts > your account > Mailbox Behaviors > Sent. What is the setting for Delete sent messages when: set to? You may wish to change this setting. See this article -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ICloud Mail on work computer, online browsing while not saving messages locally.

    Hi,
i set up my icloud account at work using Mail because i was tired of writing personal messages from my iPhone.  Initially I opted to not save any messages locally, since I prefer keeping my personal correspondence in the cloud and on my private devices.  Unfortuantely if I choose that option, then no messages are displayed in the inbox or sent folders.
I am accustomed to the IMAP way of things, where Mail displays the server contents when online and in offline mode, no messages are displayed because they aren't saved locally.
    Is this possible with iCloud?
    thanks!

essentially i don't want icloud messages saved locally on my work computer, but i want to browse them, as if i was using icloud on web browser. only using Mail is much more convenient than having the web interface open the whole time.
with my work imap account, mail displays the messages as they are on the server, even if i choose not to have them available for offline viewing.
