Mail not showing in mail box

For three days, I was not receiving any email.  I talked to my email provider and they found that my email was being forwarded to another unknown account.  I called that email provider and learned that the email address supposedly receiving my emails has not been in service since 2004. My email provider has stopped forwarding my email to the bogus account. I have created my own gmail account and now have my email fowarded to the new gmail and have deleted my old account from my mac.  HOWEVER, I now see email activity in the lower left corner of the mail window saying messages are being sent and received--in large numbers, but they are not showing up anywhere on my mac.  When I compare what I am receiving in my mac mail account to what is on the gmail server, they all match up.  Why I am getting this activity? Where would it be coming from?

Perhaps you can tell me how to restore my old emails from my old email account.
If you moved your backup folder for that account (not the entire Mail folder) into the Home/Library/Mail folder, the next thing you need to do is launch Mail and setup that Gmail account again. But before you can do that, you need to login to the Gmail web interface and change your password to something secure (something that cannot be guessed, preferably at least 27 characters long and using a string of random characters). I use 1Password to generate these, but you could also use LastPass, which is free.
If you don't use one of those password managers, copy the new password, paste it into a Sticky Note or TextEdit and save it.
After you've done that, then setup the Gmail account in Mail again, and after you've done that, Mail will import the existing messages again, and sync them with Gmail.
Where do you think the password was stolen from?  The email server or my computer?
It wasn't stolen at all; it was just too easy to guess using standard hacking tools. That's why you have to use secure passwords that can't be guessed.

  • Sent mail not showing in sent box

The last few days emails that I send through my Yahoo account seem to sit in the drafts folder after I hit send and not move over to the sent folder. Lately they are not appearing in either box, yet the recipients are receiving the mail.
Sometimes the emails just stay in drafts no matter what I do or how many times I resend. And yes, the recipients are receiving multiple copies.
If anyoe has experienced this or can offer assistance I would appreciate it much.
    Thank you,

Thank for the tip. the server appears to match and it is in fact online.
Still having the same issues. I appreciate your help.

  • ICloud mail not showing up as "box" on iPhone mail list

I have a me.com address. I have added it as an account on my iPhone. I can log in successfully on my desktop to iCloud to retrieve my mail. I CANNOT however, see a mailbox labeled iCloud in my iOS mail on my iPhone. Can anyone help me figure this out? I've restarted the phone over and over. I shut off Mail and turned it back on several times as well. Please help.
    Thanks!

    Hi Winston,
Let me clarify...sorry about that. When I go to Settings --> iCloud --> Under my Account name [email protected] there is a list of "Mail, contacts, Calendars, etc" with on/off toggles, I switched Mail to off and then back on again, in hopes that this would reset itself or something. When I return to my Mail application, iCloud doesn't show as one of my Accounts, only my personal Yahoo and my work Exchange account. I cannot figure out why my iCloud mail does not show up there, even though I am logged in under iCloud and i can access it on my desktop.
    I appreciate the help.

  • Unread and read mail not showing in Mail after upgrading to Yosemite

    Hi there,
    I recently upgraded to Yosemite.
In the Mail app, mail is not showing up properly. I have unread mail, which is not showing up, despite me refreshing or sorting by unread first, and even an email I read this morning on Chrome isn't showing up, as you can see by screenshots.
How do I fix this issue?

    Hi,
In Mail > Mailbox dropdown menu, try clicking on Rebuild at the bottom.

  • SecUpd2006-002, mail not showing new mails in dock anymore

    hello folks,
i am not sure if the following problem is linked to the SecUpd2006-002 i just installed, but this just occured afterwards:
mail is not showing the arrival of new emails in the dock anymore!
ya know, that little red dot with the numbers of new mails in it.
(is there a button or something to toggle this on and off anyway?)
in mail itself they are still marked as new (bold letters) but in the dock nothing happens.
anyone else having this problem? found out a solution already?
    thank you for your thoughts.
    p.s.: have repaired permissions already

all right, found the solution by myself:
was kind of a font problem.
got a helvetica font from a customer. installation seems to have overwritten/removed the "normal" helvetica font installed by the system.
so mail went nuts. noticed - besides the above mentioned problem - that the headers of the mails seemed to be a little weird: mail-adresses bigger sizes (or different font) than the other infos.
so, if you ever run into something similar like this: clean up your fonts ;o)
glad it's over, have a good one!

  • One Gmail e-mail not showing in mail, all others are

    Hi there,
My mail app, for some reason, has never had any issues with my Gmail account.  I noticed recently that one of my e-mails that had been set as unread after I read it is no longer appearing.  The Mail app shows 3 unread messages on the mail icon, when in fact I have 4.
If I use the 'search inboxes' feature, it works fine and it finds the e-mail and shows it as unread, increasing my overall unread count to 4. However, when I leave the e-mail from the search menu and scroll down the list of my e-mails, it doesn't appear.  In fact, a few hours later, my unread count goes back down to 3.  I can search for and find the e-mail again, but just don't understand why it no longer appears in my mail list.
I've logged into Gmail on the web interface and double-checked that the e-mail is in my inbox, which it is.
I did a bit of Googling but couldn't find anything, would appreciate any advice.
    Thanks.

Suggest you do some reseach before posting brain-dead snarks.  There are many reports of Mail App problems with Google since they changed server configurations, including missing email, change in folder content etc.
If you want your Google mail to function as expected, as it does on the webmail site, use the Google Mail app from the App Store.  If this email still shows on the web site, it will show there too.

  • Mail not showing new mail until I switch out of and back into INBOX

When new mail is downloaded, the messages do not appear in the INBOX until I have moved to (clicked on) another mailbox and then moved back to INBOX. The unread message count reflects the correct number of unread messages until the above procedure has been followed. Similarly, when messages are moved to another mailbox, the messages sometimes do not leave the INBOX list until the same procedure is followed. This is a relatively recent problem (last couple of months, I think). Any ideas?

  • Mail not showing new mail

Mail is no longer showing new messages when they arrive. I have to go to Take All Accounts Offline and then Take All Accounts Online, and only then to the messages appear in the inbox. I think this started after upgrading to Mavericks. Does anyone know how this can be resolved?

Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Mail not showing new mail count

Very recently, Mail has stopped showing the new mail count next to the corresponding inbox on the bar on the left side of Mail. There are new emails sitting in the indox but it doesn't show a count. I upgraded to Mavericks and it there were no issues but now this is happening. Any ideas why?

Yes, these can also be removed. Tiger Mail no longer uses them. You can confirm this by looking at their modification date. It should be no later than the date you imported your Panther mail into Tiger mail.

  • Mail not showing e-mails

After using Mail for a few minutes , the messages in the folders are no longer visible.
some mailboxes will still list unread messages next to the mailbox name. If I click on one of the mailboxes, the title of the window will read: "0 Messages, n unread" (when the number of unread messages is n).
This happens on my first attempts to use Mail and after importing my e-mails from Eudora.
Could it be that Mail can't deal with large amounts of messages? I guess I have about 30,000 messages in my imported mail. Could that more than Mail can handle? Eudora could do it fine, I am only switching because I like the integration of Mail into everything else, so that would be quite a shock to me.
any ideas, pointers, answers are greatly appreciated..!

I suggest trying Eudora Mailbox Cleaner first.
All email clients have limits of some sort and the recommended size limit for a Jaguar or Panther Mail.app mailbox is 1 GB and for Tiger Mail, 2 GB.

  • Sent mail not showing in folder

    Greetings,
Our Mac has three email accounts. For the last two days, one of the accounts does not show sent mail in the sent folder. The other two accounts are working properly. I have reviewed the MobileMe settings and the Preferences on Mac Mail and can't find the issue.
The accounts are all MobileMe (IMAP) accounts and accessed via iPad, iPhone and Mac, but no device is showing sent mail since Monday.
    Any suggestions?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Mail not showing mail

    Hi,
My Mail has been working great.. until i bought an iPhone4.
I don´t know if this is the reason, but when i synced my iPhone from iTunes my mail account only shows
    NOTES.
I deleted the mail account (my schools mail, imap) and reconnected the mail accounted. Mail started showing my mail again, after a few days the same thing. only notes.
interesting is that notes do sync AND the account is showing that new mail has arrived (the blue ball) but no matter where or what I click can I get the account to show my mail.
Thank you all for any tips or similar problems you can provide discuss. Thank you
    /Daniel Hilli

summer14, In case you haven't resolved this yet.
polzbert's solustion is excellent, assuming you have a backup drive using Time Machine. However, did you try rebuilding the inbox? If not, here's how:
Select the mail box that's giving you trouble in the left pane of Apple Mail. Then choose "rebuild" iunder the Mailbox Menu Item. This has resolved countless mailbox glitches for me in the past.

  • Inbox mail not showing up.

I just set up a iMac. Having a problem with mail.
My iphone is not showing my mail that is in my inbox on the imac. All other mailboxes have the mail in it. I tested by sending a email to my iphone from the imac. It shows up. However, Mail sent from the imac is sent from "first name Last name" Mail sent from my iphone is sent from "apple ID"
Did I set up the imac mail incorrectly?

Mail uses files called “Envelope Index files” to keep track of messages in your local mailboxes.
    Quit Mail.
Locate your Mail folder in your User's Library. Your home Library folder is hidden by default. To display it, choose Finder > “Go to Folder” and then enter “~/Library.”
Delete any file that begins with “Envelope Index,” in ~/Library/Mail/MailData
    Open Mail
Mail creates new Envelope Index files. This process may take a few minutes, depending on how many messages Mail is reindexing.

  • Mail not showing new messages on 10.8.3

Mail not showing new messages on 10.8.3, but messages show just fine on iPhone. Nothing changed to make this happen, not sure where to start. Thanks.

  • Apple mail not showing all the messages?

In Apple mail, for my icloud account, I have some mailboxes which show the wrong number of messages, it shows too few.
As an example, a mailbox contains 150 messages, but apple mail reports there are only 146.
I rebuilt the mailbox and let apple mail do its thing. In the activity window I can see there are 150 messages. Yet, once apple mail has finished rebuilding the mailbox, it still tells me there are 146 messages. What's going wrong? Why would apple mail not show all the messages while in the activity window it clearly shows it knows there are 150?

    Solved!
This was too weird to be real. Apple mail does not show messages it believes to be duplicates, and buy, does it make big mistakes in deciding what are duplicate messages and what not! Some of my mailboxes had over 100 "duplicates" not showing according to apple mail.
I found a solution thanks to this topic:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18265121#18265121
    defaults delete com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates
does yield an error in 10.8.2 ( Domain (com.apple.mail) not found. Defaults have not been changed. )
defaults write com.apple.mail AlwaysShowDuplicates -bool true
    Does work brilliantly though!
