Mail not updating after Lion install

So I just updated my operating system to Lion and was pleasantly suprised that there were no problems... until I tried to open Mail.
I opened mail and it imeadealty told me that it had to update my database or something... so I said yes. A screen came up saying that it is Upgrading Mail (upgrading my mail database) and it should take a few minutes to do. It says I can check out new mail features while it is upgrading... well this was more than 16 hours ago that the upgrade started. I have tried to Force Quit the Mail app several times. When it does quit and I reopen the program the same screen appears as if the upgrade never stopped but was running in the background.
Any thoughts? Is this just a mail application issue or is it a problem because I installed Lion?

Figured it out... well sort of. I pieced together info from several other posts.
I just ended up deleting my Mail folder and then opening the program. This worked... I did have to re-setup my mail accounts but because I had them all linked to servers (gmail, mobile me, etc.) it didn't matter anyways and I didn't lose any information. I wouldn't recommend doing this if your info isn't constantly backed up to the server... there was another post that discussed how to do this so you don't lose info but I can't find it anymore.
Here's what I did.
Open a finder window.
Click on GO (at the top of the computer screen, not on the finder window) to drop down the menu.
With the drop down menu open hold down the option key... this makes a LIBRARY folder appear in the menu.
Select the Library menu.
Find the Mail folder and move it to the deskstop.
Now open Mail App.
Once I opened mail the program started fine.
Then I setup my mail accounts.
Next I deleted the Mail folder on my desktop.
Mail works fine now.

Security and privacy system preference not working after Lion install.  Not sure if it happen with Lion installer or after updating. What to do?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Time Machine not working after Lion install

After Lion install at first Time Machine would not back up-then it did, but backed up the entire HD-now Time Machine will no longer function in trying to retrieve any data from Mail or anything else

After consulting with maker of back up drive (LaCie) I opted to format the drive. Lost some stuff but nothing critical. I then backed up and now all appears to be working, i.e drive is backing up and Time Machine is now functioning.

  • Office not starting after Lion install - PowerPC issues?

I have an Intel MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 duo)
It was running OK on Snow Leopard.
I had Office (do not remember exactly which version, but recent).
After Lion installing, I cannot open any more any of the Office applications.
This is the message I get
You can't open the application Microsoft Excel because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
What is worse is that not even the Microsoft Autoupdater opens up as well.
I never used a powerpc chip. I am surprised to read in the System Information that this is the setup for Excel

As the last line (above) states, you are using Office 2004, and that will not run on Lion, upgrade to Office 2011 or Open Office or Neo Office or Libre Office.

T mobile broadband USB stick not working after lion install

No s#!t batman. The point is a mac laptop is ment to be mobile and for it to be mobile you need a mobile broadband stick so when a new op system lion is released don't you think it would be one of the first items to be checked for compatability.with snow leopard the same problem took months before I could use a broadband stick, there is no lion connection manager software available right now until someone decides to wright it, so does anyone have a usefull fix i can use ?

  • My Iphoto Library won't upgrade / update after Lion install.

Ok so i updated my OS X to Lion and everything seemed fine but the Iphoto Library had an update and I installed it after this. Now i'm getting a message that my Iphoto library needs to upgrade to be able to run on this version of Iphoto. It starts to upgrade fine but never stops i just have a wheel as pointer like its thinking or trying to upgrade. It will go like this for days. I have GB's worth of photos i can't seem to get to. Help

    To repair the Library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards

  • Built in iSight not working after Lion install

First I thought it was iglasses which I removed. I then unplugged my secondary Logitech cam; but still I can't get any image from the Built in iSight Camera after my Lion install.
It shows up as a USB peripheral in the mac System Profiler. What gives?
    Thanks

Hi, i read this very useful post to undestand why my iSight camera won't work under Quicktime video recorder, on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2. I was sure it worked in the past, and for example Photo Boot works, Skype works but not Quicktime. I tried the reset pause, and anything happens. Solution for me was the idea of disconnect some USB peripherical. It was my external audio card for me, a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 audiocard. It starts to work immediately. If i reconnect the audio card after the working window in Quicktime, it seem to continue to work in a perfect way, but if i close and reopen Quicktime iSight still blocked. Very strange, anyway i just can make it start when i need. I hope this will be useful to others.

  • Itunes not working after lion install

I updated to Lion last night and today iTunes won't open.  it says it was "created with a newer version. Would you like to download iTunes now?"  anybody have any idea?

The usual cause of this kind of issue is that the user has copied or moved the iTunes application from its default location in the Applications folder. Right-click or control-click the Safari icon in the Dock (if that's how you're launching it) and select Options > "Show in Finder" from the popup menu. Where is the iTunes application, and what version number is shown in the Info window?

  • Mail not updating after mountain lion install

just installed mountain lion, tried to open mail and message reads please wait while mail is upgrading, looks about 1inch on progress bar and nothing happens, waited hours tried again and again!! help?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. If you get a warning that the file is in use when you try to empty the Trash, log out and log back in.

  • Software Updates after lion install?

After Installing Lion, my computer ran a software update check.  After the updates, imovie and garage band did not work.  So I tried the update again and clicked show details, it listed imovie and garage band updates, there is a check box next to them, but I can't click the check box.  So right now imovie and garage band remain broken.  Any thoughts?

try restarting the computer and the selecting software update from the apple menu, having no other apps open, and click install all, if any fail deselect them and do the other ones, restarting the and doing the ones tht failed after installing the ones that worked

  • Windows will not update after clean install

ok, I hope this isn't a common topic, I have searched everywhere for a solution. My laptop was slow, maybe infected with malware. I refreshed it and it wouldn't allow me to update and reinstall 8.1. So, I reset it. Still no updates. I got my hands on a windows 8 disk, formatted the drive and reinstalled windows. I still can't update, I have tried update troubleshooter and microsoft fix it. Neither worked, the updater searches and then says sometimes even update needs an update. So i've tried that. it happens often and it wont complete the updater update, even after troubleshooter claims it has fixed any errors. I  got one error message earlier in week which I can't rememer. I searched out all the info and fixes on it and got nowhere. I gave up on fixing update and tried all the other installers I could find. The only one I could get to work was WSUS. I downloaded all the updates and installed them, in configuration there was an error and it removed all updates. I am losing my mind, this should be simple and has been going on for two weeks. Please help!

I understand that you are unable to update to Windows 8.1.  You tried doing a refresh and reset but there was not change.
You then formatted the drive and installed Windows 8 from a Windows disk but again unable to update to Windows 8.1.
You have ran the troubleshooter and tried to update the updater to no avail.
As you did the last installation from a MIcrosoft disk, I suggest contacting MIcrosoft support for assistance or do a  HP
    recovery.
This Microsoft article may help you to overcome this issue.   Installing the Windows 8.1 Update (KB 2919355).
There is a section on the bottom of the page for troubleshooting the installation.

If you formatted the entire drive when you did the Windows 8 installation from the disk you will no longer have the recovery partition and will need to do the recovery from CD/DVDs or USB key.
If you did not create recovery disks, please contact HP support and inquire about obtaining a recovery kit.

  • Why is my external USB audio card not found after Lion install

Above says it all.  Since installing Lion my external USB audio card is not recognized.  This is a very plain vanilla card.  I worked fine with Snow Leopard.  No additional drivers required.  But with Lion, nada.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It just happened to me. Exactly as Ritcho described. After install fine, after restart, gone. FYI for anyone with the same issue as I had. I was using a Diamond USB dongle to connect my external monitor to the iMac, it was legacy from when I was running a couple of external monitors from my MacBook Pro using them. I took the dongle out of the chain and replaced with a standard Apple DVI to Mini DVI adapter and plugged it into the mini dvi port in the iMac and I was golden. Now to sell the Diamond dongles.

Also have this issue - the only "fix" at present seems to be renaming the /Library/Application Support/iLifeMediaBrowser to something like _iLifeMediaBrowser and then launching FCPX - it runs straight away.
This also fixes a similar issue with iMovie 11 under 10.7
Really nasty bug that needs looking into from Apple, I'll file a bug report.
