Mail not updating

Hi all,
The Mail client on my MacBook Pro has recently been acting really strangely. I'm running 10.6.8, Mail 4.5, and don't have any pending software updates. It frequently won't update my Gmail IMAP client (which works perfectly on another MacBook Pro I have it set up on and my iPhone) and once I restarted the program a few times and it does find new messages, it marks previously read messages as unread and randomly deletes unread messages. It's getting really frustrating and I'm considering switching to Thunderbird or Outlook so I don't keep missing emails. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

That is how my mailbox is sorted.
I think I've narrowed it down such that it's just Gmail that's the problem. It's not showing up in my Inbox even though the other two, University-based emails that I have seem to be working fine. Gmail is just not working with the "Inbox" folder at all!

  • Yahoo mail not updating

YAhoo mail not updating for some days. I had to downliad yahoo app to check my mails

A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.
    https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2659/configure-imap-for-iphone-or-ipad.aspx
    https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html
    On the iPhone, tap Settings.
    Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.
    Tap Add Account.
    Tap Other.
    Tap Add Mail Account.
Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
    Click Next.
    Ensure IMAP is selected.
Enter the following incoming mail server information:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Hostname is mail.yahoo.com.
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail.
Enter the following outgoing mail server information:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail. It may have been entered for you.
    Tap Next.
The iPhone will establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers.
    That’s all!

  • Mail not updating after recent update

After the recent update my mail does not update unless I press the mail icon. In the past I would hear a sound and a number would appear next to the icon letting me know how many mails received. Any ideas?

did you double check the mail settings that it is set to push?

  • TS3276 Yahoo! sent mail not updated in the server.

I have an issue with Yahoo! Mail. When I'd sent email from my Mail from my mac book air, it can be sent but a copy is not updated in the server, thus when I view from the web or other device I can't see it as it is not updated. I've checked the "store sent msg in server" in the mail preference.
I don't this issue with exchange and gmail.
    Thanks

Right that is how the  POP email protocol works. If you want all mail sent and received to always be on the Mail Server then you have to use a mail provider that allows, uses, either IMAP or MS Exchange.

  • Iphone 5s mails not updated since monday. Checks and then says updated Monday. All settings checked and deleted and reinstated account....no change

My iPhone 5s mail has not updated since Monday; I can see mails on iMac.  Checks for mail but nothing new appears.    I have checked all settings and deleted and reinstated mail box but no luck. Can anyone help please.

If the mail provider is a pop mail account, that could be why, because the iMac may have downloaded them already.
If you go to mail > preferences > accounts, it'll tell you there if it is pop or imap.
Let me know and i'll assist you further

  • Mail not updating.  Possibly since January update.

This problem is fairly new and I am 99% sure it started when I updated my iPhone with the January update but I do not know if it is related...
My phone used to tell me I had new email immediately (as indicated by the Mail icon in the dock) in both of my accounts (one GMAIL and one other account). However, now it does not automatically tell me even when I wake up in the morning and see that I have 5 or 6 new messages. If I go to my mail and click refresh, it will load the messages but I want it back to the way it was!
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you.

It sounds like I'm having exactly the same problem, but it might have started before the January update. Constantly I have to manually check for mail even though it is set to check every 15 minutes.
I will wake up in the morning and mail says it was last updated last night. Sometimes I will check in the middle of the afternoon and it has not updated since the morning. I am using 2 IMAP accounts. 1 GMail and 1 Exchange server. I've restored the phone back to normal a couple times and it seems like it keeps happening.

  • My yahoo mail not updating for hours

My Yahoo account on my Mac Book Pro is not updating, been 5 hours and my iphone and ipad received mail 3 hours ago yet my Windows mail shows mail up to the minute.  When I try to refresh, shows loading ALOT but nothing comes through.

I have the same problem with various Yahoo! Mail folders.  When I look in my Sent Items folder, the 920 will only show me the emails I sent from my phone.  I do not see the emails I sent from my PC.
Also, when I reply to an email on my 920, I can watch the email go to the Outbox and then to the Sent Items folder, but the email never actually goes out.  When I go to my PC, it's not in my Sent folder.

  • RSS Feeds in mail not updating

There is another thread [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1322871] about RSS not updating in Mail.app. It is closed so I can't post a response to it. Whilst the solution offered might work it isn't really very elegant.
If RSS feeds no longer seem to be updating then it could be that the SQLite3 database that manages it has some corruption or space issues. The best solution is to fix this database (rather than to replace it as proffered in the other thread). To do so, first quit Mail, then open Terminal and enter:
       /usr/bin/sqlite3 ~/Library/PubSub/Database/Database.sqlite3 vacuum.
When you next open Mail, RSS should be returned to normal

I wonder what the problem is and how to resolve it. Anybody out there have an idea?

  • Why does Mail not update timely with Mavericks?  Why does the download to fix this issue (?) won't install?

I installed Mavericks on my MacBook Pro when it first came out.  Since then, my Mail program doesn't go out and get my new mail from gmail every minute like it's set to do. Sometimes new mail shows up on my smart phone as long as 10 minutes before it shows up on my Mac.  I saw there was a stand-alone download for Mail on Mavericks meant to fix some gmail-Mavericks-Mail problems.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6030
However, this will not install on my Mac.   The error message says simply that "this volume does meet the requirements for this update."  Can't figure out why.  I have plenty of memory.

Try adjusting the settings in Mail:
Mail > Preferences > General > Check For Incoming Messages: Every Minute
Also, you may be downloading an incompatible 10.9.1 update (one is for newest retina Macbook Pro's, the other for remaining Macs). Navigate to the Apple Logo > Software Update...
If it shows no software update available when the App Store opens, you are already running 10.9.1 (which includes the mail update).

  • E-mail not updating properly since IOS7

My wife installed the ios7 update on her i-phone 4s. Since then, incoming e-mail do not appear until you run the mail app.
She is on a wifi network here at home and that makes no difference.
    Settings\cellular\mail is set to on.
    Do not disturb is off.
    Airplane mode is off.
Settings\Sounds\new mail is set to Sherwood Forest and the sound does play once you manually start the mail app and mail arrives.
Settings\Mail, Contacts, Calendars\Fetch New Data is set to Push
Settings\Mail, Contacts, Calendars\Fetch New Data\Yahoo is set to push (her account is with sbcglobal.net which is yahoo).
    Time Zone Support is on.
I tried deleting and re-creating the account which had no effect. I did a hard reboot of the phone which had no effect. She and I have identical phones and use the same e-mail provider, and my phone receives e-mail in the background and beeps and hers does not. As far as I can tell, all of the settings on both phones that affect e-mail are identical except for the name and e-mail address.  And while I was typing this, her phone suddenly starting working again.
The only thing I can think of is that I connected it to my computer while I was typing this. I have no clue what happened or if it will happen again.  But comments and ideas are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Bill

I am having the same problem on my iPhone 5. It looks like an iOS 7 bug that's global to all phones. I did read though that Apple is already prepping 7.0.1, 7.0.2 and 7.1 for release. Hopefully this is one of the fixes. I would expect an update very soon due to the security flaw in the new control center (a specific set of actions allows anyone to bypass a lock screen and get access to a portion of the phone's data), hopefully a mail fix is included with this.

  • IPhone 6 plus ios 8.1.2 mail not updating

I use the mail app for a Gmail and Yahoo account. After the latest ios update, neither account will update. Today is Wednesday, and after swiping down to force an update, both accounts show "Updated Saturday" and new mail is not displayed. I have not changed any settings and the mail app worked fine before.

Hi Go to settings Email Accounts Delete Account then add back again. Do this to all Accounts that are not working. Cheers Brian

  • Apple Mail not updating IMAP inbox

When new mail arrives in an IMAP inbox, Apple Mail will not show the new messages until several hours pass or Mail is quit and restarted. The new mail is visible via other IMAP clients (Thunderbird, Entourage, iPhone) but not in Apple Mail. This occurs once or twice a week with no obvious common trigger. It is happening on my personal computer and many of my client's systems. I've tried rebuilding Inboxes, re-syncing accounts, deleting envelope indexes, creating new mail accounts, new users, etc.... The problem will always return eventually and only quitting and restarting Mail will cause the IMAP INBOX to update.
Affected system: Apple Mail, Snow Leopard 10.6.3 although this has been occurring on multiple systems going back to 10.5 with multiple email providers.
I've searched and searched and just found numerous people with the same issue and no solutions. All of those threads were archived with replies no longer allowed, so I started yet another thread.

    Ernie Stamper wrote:
That is correct, but this IDLE to achieve push email might not be working well, at least with Mail. But post back if this does not correct the problem.
    Ernie
I have two systems that have the issue and both had the IDLE box checked. I unchecked them both and they ran all day today with no lapses in email. Looks promising but the issue has gone for days sometimes before it re-appears.
I will keep you posted. Hopeful.

  • Exchange mail not updating?

    Howdy,
The company I work for recently changed over to Outlook. I can check my email on a PC via outlook or I can go on through the web exchange. I use a mac for work but unfortunately IT does not support mac. The lady did tell me however I could still probably set up my email account through mac mail and then she left me to my own devices.
I clicked on the mail icon to set up a new exchange account, typed in the information, and it seemed to work just fine. That was on 10/10. Then I didn't get any emails on 10/11- 10/16. Today (10/16) a wonderful thing happened. I got the emails I missed up til 10/14.
I know I am getting emails because they are forwarding to my outlook account on my pc, the exchange account via the web, and my iPhone. Does anyone know why the mac mail updates at random? Also I am running a mac pro with a 3.2 ghz quad core intel 8gb of ram and Mountain Lion (ROOOAAAR... or growl I guess... whatever mountain lions do. I hope they don't hisss.)
Also I ran the Mail Connection Doctor and it told me my connection is just fine. I show a little green bubble and everything.
    Thank you,
    Jeremy

My guess then is that it's an issue with Exchange Web Services on the mail server, and if your IT group won't support Macs you may not be able to get much help. You could try removing the account and re-setting it and see if that makes any difference. Any idea what version of Exchange they're running?

  • Mail not updating Exchange Folder

Hey all, I have my Mail (Version 4.5) set up with 6 different email accounts, one of them is my work email with runs off an exchange server. Up until yesterday, it was working just fine, but all of a sudden, my main inbox won't update.  I have subfolders (set up through Outlook, not through my Mac) and rules so certain emails go into certain folders. Those still work fine, and I get those, but my main inbox refuses to pull in new emails. I opened up Outlook 2011 on my computer and it pulls them in fine, i just don't want to use Outlook because I can't stand the way it organizes things. Anyway, is there any reason my inbox wouldn't be pulling in emails all of a sudden? I contacted the IT department and they said no changes were made to the server yesterday that would have caused this.

I'm observing the same behavior frequently with my Exchange account. When I open the activity window (Cmd+0) I can see an entry "adding mails" that does "hang" and not finish. As soon I stop this activity new mails are downloaded.
In another thread I've read that a malformed mail (could happen with some strange SPAM mails) on the server could cause this issue. So I access my Exchange account by browser (OWA, Outlook Web Access) and delete any message in my inbox that does look strange (by means of the mail header). And then downloading mails works again in Apple Mail.
This is something Apple would have to fix since it's annoying if you don't know if Mail did really download all new mails from your account - until you check your account with another access way (e.g. OWA).
