Mail not working in Leopard

I installed max memory, then archived, upgraded to Leopard, installed iLife and did the necessary updates. All apps are working except for Mail. When I click on it, nothing seems to happen but the light next to the icon goes on. No screen appears. I cannot make a screen appear. If I try to quit the app nothing happens. I wait a while but I don't even get the 'force quit' option. Finally I have to open the force quit app, click on Mail and then it quits.

Maybe something in this thread can help.

  • Yahoo Mail Not Working on Leopard

Since switching to Leopard, Mail continually says
The server error encountered was: The server “pop.att.yahoo.com” cannot be contacted on port 110.
when trying to use my main email address. Half the time, my @mac.com email address can't connect either.

If you delete that account all will be instantly gone from it.
You can move the current Mails/boxes for that account to another Mailbox you make.
Without Mail running of course, you could in the Finder Move those folders to a safe place, & theoretically put them back after starting Mail, deleting that account, create the Account, quit Mail, move the folders back.
But what does Mail's Connection Doctor say?

  • Lion 10.7 / pop mail not working...

on an intel mac pro... pop mail not working... problems with 110 port connecting to server... any suggestions?

The only possible way to get my mail working with Mac OS X 10.7.4 was to use Thunderbird (latest version, 13) instead of Apple Mail. I don't know if this was related to my ISP only but I'm surprised that there aren't more discussions about this problem. Apparently, it is very widespread from what my ISP said. They said there is a problem with (or change in) the way Apple Mail handles POP accounts under Mac OS X 10.7.x. They are getting dozens of calls about it every day. My POP account, which worked perfectly under Mac OS X 10.6.8, simply would not retrieve mail under Mac OS X 10.7.4 using the exact same settings. I tried absolutely everything that I could find on the Internet to resolve the problem in order to continue to use Apple Mail.
So for anyone else experiencing this problem, forget Apple Mail. Download Thunderbird and set up your POP account exactly as it was set up under Snow Leopard and your problem will be solved. Looks like Apple has some fixing to do. This is unacceptable, regardless of what Apple's excuse is or whatever their reason was for making this change.
I like Thunderbird. I'm actually kind of glad this happened now

  • Photoshop 7 DOES NOT WORK with Leopard ( OS 10.5 )

If you are not prepared to upgrade your Photoshop 7, DO NOT UPGRADE TO LEOPARD.
Photoshop 7 and OS 10.5.x (Leopard) are not compatible. When Adobe released Photoshop 7 in 2001 as a Universal Binary for OS9 and OSX they had no idea that Apple would be switching to an Intel chip in 2006. As the release of Leopard is also the end of the Classic environment, this may be the reason Photoshop 7 does not work in Leopard.
As of the release of CS4, Photoshop 7 can no longer be used as a path to upgrade Photoshop. A full version has to be bought now. But Photoshop CS or later can still be used as an upgrade to Photoshop CS4.
It is recommended that Photoshop 7 owners still looking to save money on upgrades stay away from eBay, as, unfortunately, much of the software listed is pirated or misrepresented and you will still not be able to upgrade to CS4.

  • Mail not working in new mini mac

i got new mini mac and mail not working. i get this message.
You have Mail version 4.2 (1078/1084). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549). For more information, click the Help button.
    dont know what to do
    thanks

Should be Mail 4.5.  With Spotlight, check to see if you have more than one version of the Mail app onboard.  Also, make sure that there is one at the root level of the Applications folder, and that it is namely simply Mail before applying the Combo.

  • Widget: "screenshot plus", not working in leopard, etc...

widget: "screenshot plus", not working in leopard. another bug? kids digital camera opens iphoto but doesnt appear on desktop to eject w/out errors. another bug? if i havnt registered leopard yet, can i sell it, cuz i think i might not want it now.

These aren't bugs, they are 3rd party issues that are not Apple's responsibility. Whomever wrote the widget needs to update it for Leo. The camera manufacturer needs to update their hardware driver to be Leo compatible.
I'm sure someone will take Leo off you hands for a better price than elsewhere. It's a great OS.

  • TS1394 Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)

Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)
Hi, I am currently using Snow Leopard 10.6 on my iMac. I opened iTunes and was told there was an update available so I clicked the button to download it. This obviously opened up the 'download' screen with blue bar. The blue bar does not move and the message comes up that the download failed. I have tried troubleshooting, but the message I get is that I am not connected to the internet - which I am.
    Please help.

Check your iTunes version, it's reporting v10.6.3 here on 10.6.8 and no updates required.
You should be able to download it from here

  • HT2216 I am on OSX 10.7.5 and recently had to reinstall it due to 'mail' not working correctly.  That problem was resolved but now my I can't use the 'right click' function on the apple usb mouse.  Any clues?

I am on OSX 10.7.5 and recently had to reinstall it due to 'mail' not working correctly.  That problem was resolved but now my I can't use the 'right click' function on the apple usb mouse.  I only have a previous version re-install disc as I bought the latest OSX off the app store.  Any help gratefully received?

Hmmm, no, no drivers needed, now it sounds like a bad install... unless you might have some old Mouse software installed???
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • Adobe CS2 will not work in Leopard

Did you know *_Adobe CS2 will not work in Leopard?_* I found out the hard way that Leopard doesn't cost $129; It's $729, because CS2 will not work so you need to upgrade to CS3. This is straight from Adobe support (albeit in Manilla). I can find no documentation on either site that warns you not to upgrade to Leopard if you're running CS2. I am dead in the water until CS3 arrives. Nice move Apple and Adobe. I usually like to get kissed first.

I'm using Adobe Photohsop CS1 and it is working. There are a couple of little glitches, but nothing major. And whenever there is a major system upgrade you can ALWAYS figure there are some things that are going to break, which is why it is a good plan to install a new system on a new drive or second partition. AFAIK the things that don't work and will never work are Photoshop 7 and Elements 2.
