Mail Notification Dinging twice iOS 8

I have noticed that in iOS 8, my mail notification dings 2x. Once when the phone is locked and then again when I unlock the phone. In iOS 7, the notifications were setup the same as iOS 8, though the sound was not listed in the "overview" even though it was set to "ding". Now in iOS 8, the sound notification is listed and it dings 2x. In iOS 7, I would get a ding for a new mail message when the phone was locked and when I unlocked it, the banner would show at the top but would not ding a second time. This is not the same behavior in iOS 8. Has anyone else noticed this?

I have the exact same issue, Very annoying. I hate hearing the sound twice making me think that i just received another email. It only happened after i upgraded my 5 to iOS 8. I hope they find a fix for it soon

  • A definitive answer please: Can OS X server push iCal/mail notifications to iOS devices?

Can somebody please answer this definitively?
Can OS X Server 10.6 push iCal and Mail notifications to iOS 4.x devices?
Apple's documentation states that OS X Server supports push notifications to OS X 10.6 *clients* - but makes no mention of iOS devices. I find that strange because iOS devices stand to gain the most benefit from push functionality.
I've seen several posts in this forum that seem to indicate that iOS devices are supported, but no clear instructions on how to configure push to support them. My own attempts at doing so have failed - the mail and CalDAV accounts on both my iPhone and iPad only show support for manual / fetch methods, not push.

    Hi
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3947
IOS devices are specifically mentioned towards the bottom. AFAIK Push is fully supported in Exchange Mail Server.
Moreover and AFAIK Apple Mail does not support Push from OSX Server. However iCal is supported. In reality the 'IMAP idle' setting gives the appearance of 'Push' Mail and IMAP idle works fine on my IOS devices and for my needs is 'Pushy' enough.

  • IOS 8.3 mail notification changes

Before 8.3, when I would get a banner notification of a new email, I would see the subject and a line or so of text. I could pull down a short distance and reveal the "Mark as Read" and "Trash" buttons, and that was it. Since the update, when I pull down to reveal the buttons, I get more of a preview of the body of the email - several lines, in place of the few there before. I really do not care for this behavior at all. The original banner preview content was plenty for me to decide whether to trash, mark as read, or actually go and look at the email, but I can see how some might desire more preview content to make that decision. Apple should give us the option of how much preview content we want though. Does anyone know of a way to go back to the previous behavior for notifications without downgrading the OS?

"Experts" expect iOS 8.4 to release on or before Friday, April 24th when the Apple Watch is released. But no one is sure whether a fix to the preview will be in the update. I hate it too.

  • Syncing Mail Notifications Between Mac and iPhone

    Hi
I been having this problem with the mail notifications not syncing between the Mail.app on my MacBook Pro and iPhone. Let me explain:
When I get a new email, I hear the sound and see the red notification icon appear on both the MacBook and the iphone. When it comes to checking the new email, here are the two possible scenarios:
    a) If I check the new email on my phone, the red notification icon disappears from BOTH the iphone and the MacBook.
    b) If I check the new email on my MacBook, the red notification disappears from the MacBook but DOESN'T disappears from the iPhone (that is until I open the app). This happens with both cases, when the app is "running" in the background or when it is complety closed.
I don't know if I am crazy but I am pretty sure that both of the notifications used to disappear before, no matter where I checked the mail.
I tried deleting and creating the email again on my phone, and it didn't work.
Here some info that could help find a solution:
    - I'm using icloud email (@me.com)
    MacBook
    -Mountain Lion
    iPhone:
    - iOS 6 (this problem started before the upgrade)
    - Push is on.
    - Fetch (that suppodselly would be used only if push is off) is set to Manually.
    - On the "Advanced" sub-menu inside the Mail settings, Push is also selected.
Hopefully this can actually be fix and I can prove myself that I was not crazy!!
Thanks in advance for the help!!

Anyone find a fix for this problem? I've been waiting for this since notification syncing was announced a couple years ago with iOS 6. I use iCloud for my email and find it very frustrating that when I read an email on my Mac or on iCoud.com that it doesn't automatically dismiss the notifications for those emails on my iOS devices until I open the mail app on each iOS device. Notification syncing works great with other apps. With iMessages, for example, when I read a message on my Mac running Yosemite, the notifications disappear on my iOS devices without opening the messages app (badge app icon, home screen notifications and notification center). Why can't they figure this out with email? I remember at my old job, I had an exchange account that properly synced mail notifications between devices, but it has never worked with my iCloud email. I wonder if I am just missing a particular setting or if Apple just blew it here. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  • ICloud ical e-mail notifications

My wife and I both have separate iCloud accounts. Then she subscribed to my calendar, so she can see my schedule. This works in both Lion and iOS properly, and has been working for a few months now, ever since we made the iCloud transition.
Two days ago, she started getting individual e-mail notifications about every single event I create, change, or delete in my iCloud calendar. The e-mails don't include any unsubscribe info.
Where is the preference to turn this off?

So i have question, it is possible to switch to Open directory master and current users will be OK
I would suggest you ask that question in the open directory group as they will have more practical experience in doing this. You must ensure that your forward and reverse IP address of the serve is set up correctly before doing this.
And could i use Local user database and LDAP in the same time?
Yes that us normal operation - there will always be some accounts in the local directory, but you should not put users in there.

  • Mail notifications not working correctly on iPhone 5

On my new iPhone 5 I have mail notifications set up as on in the notification center, alert style is banners, badge app icon is on and show preview is on, view in lock screen is off. It is set up the same way as when I had an iPhone 4. However, when I get a new email and the phone's screen is not on, the next time I turn it on I will not get the banner alert, all I see is the badge icon. This is kind of annoying as I would like to see the banner to know who the email is from before going into the mail app.
The notifications for mail on my iPad running iOS 6 just like my iPhone 5 are set up the same way and work correctly.
Why would they not be working correctly on my iPhone 5?

    Roshanalex
I have tried what you are saying and all the above, I don't think you understand what we are saying is happening to us because you probably never used or use it. We understand that you can see the notification by pulling down the notification tab from the top of the screen but in the past for example on my ipad and iphone 4 it would show you a preview banner of your emails you have received for the day had you not unlocked your phone for any given amount of time and given you did receive any emails the next time you unlocked your phone it would bring up top of the screen a preview of each email you had in your inbox automatically one by one in the banners without having to go to the notification pull down. It is a bug because I guarntee if you turned it on you wouldn't see what were talkin about either and you wouldn't if you've never were setup for that intention either.

  • Documentation for Notifications system in iOS 5?

Is there any detailed documentation for the new Notifications system in iOS 5 that explains how it works, and in particular how the various pieces (alerts, banners, the Notification Center, the lock screen) interact with each other?  I downloaded the latest User Guide for iOS 5.0 and it doesn't provide much detail at all.

    This may help:
There are a number of issues to fix this:
    1. You cannot view the "Notification Centre" from the lock screen.
    2. You can have all your NEW notifications appear in your lock screen by changing the settings in Settings>Notifications>(and then select that app).
    3. You also have to ensure you are allowing notifications within the App itself, inside the App's settings.
    Here are a few hints:
If you have the "Alert Style" set to "None" - they won't show up, even if you turn them "On".
If you set to "Banners" they will show up as Banners while your phone is unlocked, and also as a Banner on the Lock screen (if the lock screen setting is set to "on"). From the lock screen you can "swipe" the notification, and it will take you right to that app.
If you set as "Alerts" - it will require you to select an action before proceeding - in which case you must "unlock the phone", and the rest of any notifications on your lock screen will not longer be considered new - and won't show up again when you lock your phone.
My recommendation: Set them all as Banners, and then you have more options. Once you "Unlock" your phone, all of them will be removed from your lock screen, but you can then see them in the Notification Centre.
    Some exmples:
Facebook: you need to select Settings>Notification>Facebook. If you want your notifications from Facebook to show up on your phone, select "Notification centre: ON". Select the Alert Style. If you want to see them in your lock screen, turn "View in Lock Screen:ON." THEN, go to Settings>Facebook>Push Notifications, and select the ones you would like. They will show up on your phone.
EMAIL: Settings>Notifications>Mail. If you want your notifications from your email accounts to show up on your phone, select "Notification centre: ON". Select the Alert Style. If you want to see them in your lock screen, turn "View in Lock Screen:ON." THEN go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>and select the Mail Account you would like notifications for.. Depending on the account type you may need to change your "push or fetch" settings.
TEXT: Settings>Notifications>Messages If you want your notifications from texts to show up on your phone, select "Notification centre: ON". Select the Alert Style. If you want to see them in your lock screen, turn "View in Lock Screen:ON." If you want to see the whole message, select "Show Preview: ON", "OFF will just display the name of the person who sent the text".

  • Workitems and Mail Notifications being sent multiple times.

    Hi,
There are two issues with our WF development:
    1. An approver is receiving a mail notification and WF Decision item TWICE. On analyzing, we found out that the "Requested End" tab of the Decision task had an entry of 2 mins (Work item creation).
Guidance needed on whether this would resolve the issue or is there a different solution.
    2. On trying to execute a decision for a WF item, an error msg is shown, "You are not a receiver of the work item" and does not allow to proceed with the decision. What could be the issue??
    Regards,
    Vipul.

    Hello,
What happens is, till your workflow duration is on, you will receive reminder mails.
So to avoid this, you need to increase all the duration steps to be equal to duration of of the workflow what you define in the Start step.
Also please explain your decision work flow logic,
    Regards,

  • Double sound for mail notifications

Hi!  Since I've upgraded my iphone 3g to ios 4.2.1, I've been having double mail notification sounds.  Here's how they happen.  I basicaly hear the sound (and-or vibration) I usually hear when I receive an email, only when I go to check it out, there's no email, even when I open the inbox to manually check it out.  A minute later, I hear the sound again, and the email is received.  It's as if there's a sound to predict an incoming message, and does it every single time.  Not a big problem, but annoying anyways.
I already tried restoring, but did back up from my settings.  I want to see if there's a solution other than a restore + set up as a new phone...  Anyone can help?

Settings > Notification Center > Mail > Select the mail account (if more than one) > Alert Sound > None

  • Can't get rid of MASSIVE mail notification number!

    Hi all,
So recently - maybe this is an iOS 6 thing - everytime I search for an older email through Mail, it continues to look on the server (naturally), and when it finds mail that is relevant, it ups my mail notification number. Even when I get out of the search, the unread mail messages - well their notifications anyway - remain on my phone. There are pictures below to help explain:
So as you can see - even though my inbox says I have 83 messages, I actually only have 3. Any ideas how to get rid of that number?
    Best,
    Chris

I can't see your first photo above, but I can see the second.
You hypothesize that you show three messages there.  I see at least nine, because there are at least four from Daryl, at least four from Kimberly, and at least one from Chris.
So to start, I suggest clicking on those right arrows to see what lies below the surface you've shown here.
Another thing to try is to reset your iPhone.  Hold the home and on/off buttons together for 7 or 8 seconds till the Apple logo appears.  See if that helps.

  • Mail notifications turning off after re-start

    Hi all,
I have an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.1.1. I have my mail notifications turned on in the lock screen as alerts and to be shown in the notification centre, but after re-starting my phone, they turn off. After a re-start, both the 'show in notification centre' and 'show on lock screen' options are turned off. The phone vibrates when I get an email, but nothing comes up on the lock screen.
I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue, so any help would be appreciated. It's a bit annoying to keep having to turn them on again every time I re-start my phone.
    Cheers

    Hi nengelbrecht6,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like some of the Notification Center settings aren't sticking on your iPhone. The quickest and easiest way to troubleshoot this issue will be restarting your iPhone and then restoring it, if the restart didn't resolve the issue.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    I hope this helps.

  • Shows e-mail notifications that aren't there

E-mail notifications show 18000 messages there are no actual messages. How do you clear the notifications. Has occurred since updating to the new iOS 7 system

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • E-mail notification alert not appearing

    Hello,
I am running Thunderbird 24.4.0 on Windows 7. I am using no add-ons and I am only using a Gmail account with Thunderbird right now for testing.
I do not receive any new e-mail notifications. I did receive them once or twice before, but it is very random and rare when I do receive a new e-mail alert.
However when I maximize Thunderbird, it displays the new e-mail. So Thunderbird is indeed actually receiving the e-mail, it is just failing to notify me.
I have ensured notifications are enabled in the Menu Bar > Tools > Options.
I have tried using Add-ons such as:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/mailbox-alert/
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/new-mail-attention/
Which also do not help display alerts. However the "new mail attention" add-on does blink the Thunderbird icon on the Windows taskbar, so at least something can notify me.
I have also tried running Thunderbird in safe mode, and running it in compatibility mode for Windows Vista, both also did not help. This appears to be a bug in Thunderbird, as I have noticed other users mentioning the same issue.

Thank you rsx11m, your suggestion seems to have fixed it! Yes I did have Gmail configured as an IMAP account. Much appreciated.
