Mail - Number of Unread messages missing in Mailbox list
Although the number of unread messages is properly shown under Inbox on the Mailboxes list next to two of my three Mail accounts, the other one shows none when there some. The quantity is also missing from the total number of messages next to Inbox when I collapse the list. This was working fine for many years.
How can I restore this feature?
Thanks!!
Quit Mail.
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Delete the selected file. Relaunch Mail and test. It should re-index your mailboxes.

Yahoo mail account's "Spam" folder (as viewed through "Yahoo mail" web interface) is displayed in Thunderbird as "Bulk Mail" (IMAP). Looking at the account's foders in Thunderbird I see the number of unread messages in each folder. "Bulk Mail" appears always to be empty. If I click the "Bulk Mail" folder, then magically messages appear in message list, and the number of unread messages is displayed next to folder name, like in all other folders of this account.
Why I need to touch the "Bulk Mail" folder in order to see the number of messages in it?
Yahoo deletes messages from this folder at certain periods. I'm in danger of loosing messages unless I remember to touch all of my Yahoo account's Bulk Mail folders in Thunderbird.
How I can get "Bulk Mail" folder to show the number of unread messages like all other folders of the same account do?
Thunderbird 24.6.0, Windows 7 Enterprise (Sp1)
pekkaI don't use IMAP in Thunderbird, so I can't provide step-by-step instructions, however, other e-mail programs have settings for whether or not to synchronize each individual folder on a schedule or using push IMAP (vs when clicked). If Thunderbird has those settings, I would expect them to appear in the folder properties or account settings. Perhaps this will be helpful, but I don't know if you've already done some digging like this or not.
FYI, a quick search brought me to this page:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuration-options-folders
One item listed in that page is this:
Configure IMAP folders, connections and namespaces
Menu location: Tools | Account Settings | <account name> | Server Settings | Advanced
Perhaps that would be a good place to start since it does mention IMAP folder connections, but folder properties still might be an easier place to peek first, just in case. For that, the site lists this:
Configure folder properties (IMAP folders only)
Menu location: Edit | Folder Properties | General Information
However, I think you could right-click on the "Bulk Mail" folder and hit properties in the pop-up menu. -
ICloud Mail on my MacBook Pro incorrectly displays number of unread messages
The iCloud account in Mail displays 1 unread message when all are read. I am unable to "mark all messages as read" to remove the 1 unread message icon. When I send multiple test emails to the iCloud account, it still only displays 1 unread message when there are more. The iCloud account on my iOS devices correctly displays the number of unread email messages.
This is an addition to my earlier statement...
This anomoly with Mail displaying 1 unread message regardless of the fact all messages are read is only occurring in Mail. I set up iCloud email in Outlook for Mac 2011 and it correctly displays the number of unread messages. -
Wrong number of unread messages N9
One of POP3 accounts is misinformation about the number of unread messages. Where this information is stored and if we can change it.
I have 0 messages in this box, but in accounts screen in Fenix i have 1 unread. Some days ago i try to delete one unread message, but meanwhile my PC e-mail client just downloaded and deleted the message from server.
So i need to know where in OS is stored this information and, if possible, to change it.

Screen_06-feb.-12_07-43-46.jpg 10 KBThanks for those thoughts BDAqua. I forgot to mention that I had done the usual disk repairs and permission repairs, and also trashed the Mail cache folder and EnvelopIndex file. I've even re-installed Mac OSX.4.11 Combo updater to no avail.
Here's another weird clue, as I realise it's occuring on all mailboxes:
I should preface this by saying that incoming mail gets routed via Mail rules to various mailboxes.
If I finish reading all the new mail in (say) my "Business" mailbox, its new mail indicator count disappears, as it should.
If I then click on my "Family" mailbox which might indicate 5 unread messages, the "Business" mailbox will then indicate 5 - it indicates whatever the unread number is in the mailbox I've just clicked on!
If I click back to "Business", Mail realises there are actually no unread messages and the count disappears again, but if I click back to "Family" it goes back up to 5 (or however many are unread in "Family" - or whichever mailbox I click on next.)
Very odd. -
IPad mail incorrectly showing unread message
On all my other devices, iPhone, Mac, and MobileMe itself I have mail showing ZERO unread messages. When I go to my iPad I have one unread message, I have gone through all of the messages without a trace of an unread one to be found. Can someone pleas help me with this ghost message!
Try restarting your iPad by holding down the on/off and home buttons until your see the Apple logo. Also click on the mailbox icon in the upper left corner to take a look at all of your mailboxes then select the one and drill down to each folder that show the unread mail.

IOS7 - setting the number of unread messages in email
Hi there,
I updated my iPad to iOS7 and I'm very impressed with it. I noticed a small issue on my email app. Whereas before, (I think) the limit of pushed messages could be set - I remember I set it to 50 - I have current number of unread messages at about 4000! I can't see whether it's possible to change it to a maximum of 50 or 100 or whatever. I've looked at the Fetch New Data options which is where I thought the settings were but I can't see anything.
Any ideas please...
Thanks,
MazMany thanks for your help.
I've read other posts and I think they're saying there's a bug somewhere so it may get fixed.
But at least it now gives me an excuse to hunt around for an alternative email app.

Leopard Mail Not Showing # Unread Messages in Dock Icon
For some inexplicable reason, my Leopard version of Mail has stopped showing unread message notifications. I still hear the mail ding, but there's no little red badge on the doc icon showing how many unread messages I have. And, yes, the "Dock unread count" is set to all mailboxes since I have multiple email accounts I check. Has anyone else had this problem and how do I fix it?
Message was edited by: celticdreamzJeff Greenberg's response was brilliant! Thanks Jeff.
I have had 2 "unread mail" items showing up for weeks and have been agonizing over what and where they were, how important the "unread" mail was, and what life experiences, deals, etc., I was missing out on. Creating a Smart Mailbox showing Unread mail worked - one caveat however: Add a second condition - that the the Unread Mail be in your INBOX (forgetting to add this condition this showed me HUNDREDS of unread mail items that resided in my OTHER Smart Mailboxes).
It worked. I found, read, and deleted my "unread mail" - Nothing important. Thanks again! -
Mail showing one unread message when all messages are marked as read
Wondering if anyone else was having any weird issues with their iCloud and unread count in the Mail app on their mac running lion? I can't seem to get rid of a phantom unread message. My iCloud account is fairly new so I don't have that many messages to go through so I know there is not an unread message any where. Any help would be appreciated
Cheers,
RabahI have had the same issue with my Microsoft exchange email after upgrading to Lion. It's a bit annoying. My iPad, Android Phone, and viewing it using a browser all show 0 unread, but Mail shows 3 unread. I have tried deleting the account, rebuilding, and pawing through settings looking for something I missed. Nothing. I actually had the same problem with my MobileMe email with Snow Leopard but I eventually permanently removed the account as other problems arose and just used it in my browser.
Sorry I couldn't help but I hope it's resolved.

Maximum number of email messages displayed in Mailbox?
Is 200 the maximum number of email messages you can display in any given Mailbox? I am trying to view an old email that was sent approx 3 months ago, which puts it about 600 or 700 email messages down in my Inbox. Hitting the "Load 50 More Messages" link doesn't appear to do anything if you already have 200 messages displayed in the Mailbox.
Forgot to mention that I am using a .Mac email account....

IPad mail shows 12 unread messages but they are all read
iPad mail shows 12 unread mail on the icon. However, all mail has been read. I checked every message available from the server and I deleted and reinstalled the email account. Any help is appreciated
iPad only show last 50,100,200 emails depending upon settings. I had this some time ago when the 17 (for example) emails were "dropped" off the list of emails on the iPad. At the botton of the list of emails there should be a "show more" type option, press this to loand the previous batch of emails to see if the unread emails are in there.
Also watch out for threading emails. It could be you need to open a thread to see the email. Also an option you can disable (I did!) -
Mail flooded with unread messages/FB app not working...linked?
All at once my Mail inbox has over 2,400 messages and Facebook app not working. I have not updated the last 2 updates bc of storage, but don't know why yesterday it decided to have a problem with that? Any ideas what's going on and how to fix it?
After Googling this issue to death, I finally clicked on the ? icon in the mail preferences panel. Apparently this is working as intended:
Display unread messages with bold font:
Display unread messages in bold font in classic layout, to help you distinguish them from messages you have read.
