Mail occasionally loses attachments and headers
once in a while, i recieve messages in Mail which lost their headers and part of the attachments. the attachments can no longer be read from Mail, but they're still there in the source. however, the metadata, as can be seen at the end of the corresponding *.emlx file, were correctly extracted (at some point in time)...
i have two imap accounts with which this is happening.
anyone having similar experiences?
i've already tried rebuilding the inbox to no avail.
I set up a Yahoo mail account. I now use my Outlook account to send PDF attachments to myself at the Yahoo account. So far this combination seems to work and the attachments are no longer disappearing. If I send via Outlook to my Outlook account, the problem of disappearing attachments still occurs.

Apple Mail, Photo Browser, Attachments and Yosemite
OK,
Help.
Anytime I want to insert a photo from my iPhoto Library into Apple Mail via Photo Browser in Yosemite Mail, it crashes.
My preferred method - Via add attachments - Finder/Pictures/Iphoto library doesn't work anymore. It now says Open iPhoto library.
Why does Apple change these things without like checking them out?
Anyone have an advice. I think Yosemite is pretty half baked. I'm a computer consultant and this is the worst release for customers since Leopard.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
Note: Since it's Mail that's crashing it's not an iPhoto problem but a Mail/System one.
Log into another user account on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists there. If it does then it's a system wide issue. If not it's an account issue.
Download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify some of the more obvious culprits. -
When I use IE browser to open my YAHOO EMAIL "classic" or "New" account, and I open an "inbox email", I have the option of "viewing" attachments, or "downloading" attachments.
I used to have that "dual" option, seemingly, using Firefox Browser, which I prefer to use.
Now, when I open my "Classic" or "New" Yahoo Email Account/s, with Firefox Browser, I no longer have the option, seemingly, to "VIEW" the attachments, but only the option to "Download" them, which I prefer not to do.
I have tried this using the older version 3.6 and the new version 9 of Firefox with the same results. No "Dual Attachment Viewing/Downloading" option in Yahoo Mail anymore in either the "Classic" or "New" versions of Yahoo Mail.
Can I correct this or change this back to the older "DUAL" OPTION of "Viewing" and/or "Downloading" attachments...or is this just the way the New FireFox Browser works.?
This is only happening to me with YAHOO.COM Email Accounts.Thank you! I suppected it would be in the settings somewhere. I' ve much to learn...get myself into trouble pushing buttons I don't really understand.

Mail under Mavericks, Attachments and View Attributes Missing
Since upgrading to Mavericks, the attributes in the View menu are all greyed-out but for date sent, mailbox, and size. The others are all checked, but I cannot change anything. I cannot see the old attachment "paper clip" icon. Any fixes?
hi Eric
thanks for the tip, but I don't think that solves my problem, which is that Mail apparently hides the duplicates, so they're still there, you just can't differentiate or remove them. I actually *need* the duplicates there so I know I've got everything, but then I need to be able to move the ones I know I've dealt with from my inbox to an archive/trash, and/or remove them completely so Mail isn't totally bloated -
Last week I suddenly started receiving all e-mails with photo attachments from other iPad and iPhone users (on my iMac, iPhone as well as iPad!) as " winmail.dat" files. It says everywhere that that is caused by Outlook users sending RTF e-mails. Obviousely that is not the case here. I found an app to open the attachments, but of course that is no real solution. I asked Android and MS Outlook users to send me e-mails with JPEG attachments and the arrive aas they should.
Does anyone know the answer to this?
Jos KorverBy the way, some non-delivery receipts (NDRs) are themselves spam messages with malicious attachments designed to infect your computer, so be cautious about opening any of those.

I am missing the icon on my taskbar in mail for sending attachments, and it is not in the customize taskbar part of my mail program. Where did it go, or how do I restore it since it is missing??
Thx,
Yellowchevy66"The top of the screen" is called the menu bar. It changes, and is based on whichever application is currently selected.
In Mail.app, the attach icon is the paperclip icon that shows in the default icon set of the so-called compse window; when you have requested the creation of a new mail message, or the creation of a reply. In the compose window with the default icons, the attach button is the middle of the five leftmost buttons in the tool bar.
It's quite possible to hide the toolbar entirely (that's controlled from the same pop-up menu as the Customize Toolbar... or can be controlled from the View > Show Toolbar or View > Hide Toolbar within the Mail.app menubar.
To capture an image of the toolbar state (if it's not that the toolbar is hidden, or has been customized), then open Mail.app, create a new (empty) message, and to capture (just) the application display window, press the Command(⌘)-Shift-4 keys as a chord, the cursor will change to a reticule (a cross-hair), place the reticule over the mail application compose window, press the space bar (to highlight the window) and click. This will save a screen shot of just the specified application window into a Screen Shot file (the rest of the name will be the date and time of the screen shot) on your desktop.
Inferring from your references and the terms you are using here, it would appear you might be unfamiliar with OS X and -- if that's the case -- then there's the available Apple Mac 101 introduction that might help clarify the environment. -
I want to forward a message with the default headers included, but can’t seem to set my mail preferences to include the headers when forwarding, just the original message ends up in the forwarded message and not the headers? What I'm trying to do is report SPAM and add headers to a spam message to forward to sites that go after the spammers.
Did you check the article and the add-on mentioned there?

Mail attachments and forwarding as attachments
Since upgrading to Yosimite 10.10.1 Mail will not work with attachments saying that it cannot find the downloads folder. If you forward as an attachment the icon is not in mail format or recognised.
Hi Chateaubugs
Open Mail.app, make sure you see the Message Viewer window.
Click on the menu Edit > Attachments and enable
- Always send windows-friendly attachments
- Always insert attachment at the end of the message.
Outlook is not good at showing embedded media content from Mail.app. It likes to have them, where it's expecting them - at the end of a message.
A hint: Make sure you have at least a part of your message (for example your signature) typed before you attach a file to a message. This is because of a small issue when attaching mails at the end of a message: If you have nothing typed, there is no end to attach to. It will fail.

Quotes and Graphics in Forwarded mail Received as Attachments
When I forward mail, often inline graphics like company logos show up as attachments and are not displayed where they show up on my computer and and often, but not always, several levels of quoted messages show up on the recipients PCs as either text or html file attachments and are also not displayed as quoted text. When the message is forwarded back to me it looks fine on my Macbook Pro. This seems to be a fairly recent problem. It also seems to be kind of hit and miss. At my company everybody complains. I've called up others who were copied the same message and it displayed OK for them. What can I do?
Snow Leopard 10.6.7, Mac Mail 4.5. Messages mostly sent/received via Microsoft Exchange Server. With recipients using Outlook or Outlook Express, this is common behavior with messages heavily laden with HTML or RTF when forwarded. Probably will work if before sending you click on Format in the menubar and choose Make Plain Text. Assumes the HTML/RTF not critical, of course.

Mail not recognizing ZIP and PDF attachments
Since upgrading to Leopard, I have received a few emails with attachments in my work IMAP account. Some of the emails are fine (the ones with XLS and DOC attachments) and others display the attachment as a bunch of encoded text in the email (ZIP and PDF files).
Thunderbird can read all the emails just fine, so I think that the problem is that some kind of mail setting is screwed up or it is a bug in the Apple mail client.
Does anyone know why Apple mail would not recognize the data as an attachment?
Here is an example of what shows up in my email:

Whenever I forward mails I get only the subject line as forward All attachments and text is blank
I am currently using Windows 7 - 64 bit as my operating system. Previously this was not the case. But after I changed my operating system, problem started in forwarding my mails. Whenever I forward my mails, Only the subject line is filled. All the text, attachments and pictures from original mail are not carried alongwith.

Operating system Windows 7. A few days ago no problems with audio, clear sound when listening to e-mail audio attachments and Amazon music samplers. During last 2/3 days both attachments and samplers fail to work, but when playing music from library held in Windows Media Player no problems. This would appear to show no problem with speakers etc and I have not knowingly amended any audio controls.
Thank you so much for replying.
Yes I have removed and reinstalled WMP.
I had good results with the PD6 application installed on the default path onto the C: drive with the one exception that if the application was launched by accident and the user data path was not available, the PD6 application would blow away my custom user path registry settings. Now that I know what they are I have made a .reg file to repair my registry to my desired user data paths.
Installing the application on the removable drive appeared to help prevent me from launching the application by accident and overwriting my registry with default user paths.
So which is the less of the two evils?
If the application directory is not available, windows media player still tries to launch the .msi for installing PD6.
If I install the application to the C: drive but the user data to the removable drive, launching the PD6 application without the user data drive will still corrupt my registry settings for a user data path.
Both these issues seem like a logical (if not easy) fix that should be done in the PD6 application and installation package. I mean really, cannot anyone tell me why windows media player is checking the PD6 application directory? Why in PD4 did we have an option control for setting the user data path from the PD4 application? Why is this option not in the PD6 application, just the installer?
I am given a choice during installation to move the user data to another non default location. Why else would this be provided if not to accommodate my kind of request to store the user data into an alternate location other than “My Document”. Certainly Palm is not trying to force the users on how to protect and store their personal data?
