Mail on iMac

I use iMac and Mail as well as Thunderbird mail clients for my business web email.
Today I cannot use them to send emails from the iMac, but I can send email from Macbook Pro.
Pls advise
Thank you

Hi
It's possible that for some reason Mail has lost the user name and password on the smtp server. Have a look in Mail Preferences>Accounts> and then select your email account on the left, then on the right at the bottom in the drop down list select 'Edit smtp server List'. Click on the smtp server name for your email account and then select the 'Advanced' tab. Check that your user name and password are there.

Tried how? Using what? Step-by-step details and the results you get along way should elicit a cogent response.

    Hello,
Are they just regular size eMails?
Do you have more than one eMail account setup?
    Next time it happens, get...
    Find Any File...
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Hold Option or alt key when selecting Find to Find All.
Use it to Find All, for Name ends in...

  • How to sync all Hotmail folders in Mail on iMac?

I have just purchased an iMac and am trying to set up my mail, but when I set up my hotmail account to Mail it only syncs the Inbox not the sub folders, is there anyway around this, as I have reverted back to using www.hotmail.com to check my emails.
    Thanks.

It sounds like you have your Hotmail setup as POP in Mail. You will need to add a new account as IMAP. Note, when you delete the POP account in Mail it will also delete the messages in the Inbox. You need to archive or move the Inbox messages to a folder before deleting the account.
The iPhone is connecting through ActiveSync (which is exclusively for mobile devices).
Since you are using [email protected], you might need to log into your account in Safari and add aliases for your email as [email protected] before creating the IMAP account.

  • Mail on iMac not accessing MS Exchange server but both iPhone and iPad access the same account with no problems.

I have been using an iPhone and iPad to access my work emails via our MS Exchange server for a number of years now with no problems at all.  I recently replaced my home PC with an iMac (first Mac I have owned) but cannot get it to communicate with the exchange server.  I've checked and re-checked the information on the iMac and my iPad - I even deleted the mail account on the iPad and input the details concurrently with setting up on the iMac - but the Mac will not access the exchange server.
I receive the message "The Exchange server "---------------" rejected the password for user "------"  Enter you password again or cancel."  I am using the correct password.  iPad and iPhone are logging on using that password fine.  iMac just ends up repeating this message.
Our IT support at work assure me that there is no reason from their end for it not to work, and reasonably point to it working using the iPhone etc.
I'd be extremely grateful if anyone can provide a solution to this basic, but extremely frustrating, little problem.

iPhone and iPad use a different way of accessing the server.
I don't know the exact details, but we are using Zarafa instead of Exchange and have the same problem:
iPhone and the likes can connect to Zarafas z-push interface, which is some identical interface to the native Exchange interface, while the desktop e-mail application tries to interface with the web front end (via http) of the server.
These are completely different setups and it depends on the actual installation of the server to get this going.
So, you will most likely need different access parameters for the desktop - and the web mail feature has to be enabled on the Exchange server.
In my opinion using the web mail interface is just silly. On the other hand, the native protocol has less features comparedto the web front end, so you are somehow stuck with sins of the past.
    Good luck!

  • Error in setting icloud mail on iMac - 'incoming mail server'

I created a new mail account in icloud and cannot edit this account in Mail Preferences on my iMac.  Everytime I try to save my changes i get the following error:
"The incoming mail server filed cannot be empty."
Of course the field is automatically filled in and greyed out so it is not changable.
I have tried various fixes, deleting, setting up again, setting up the iCloud and Mail/etc. in System Preferences...
    Help!

    Hi Suebadu,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be frustrating when an email account, such as your Gmail accounts, are not working as you would expect. In this situation I would recommend reading over and working through the attached article. The Connection Doctor may provide some further information as to what is causing the errors.

  • Can no longer send emails from Mail on iMac but CAN on MBP

Initially, when Mobile Me ended, my email was changed to work with iCloud and it worked fine for about seven months or so.  Then, it started giving me an error message (on my iMac, my Macbook Pro, and my iPhone) that said it rejected my password. After a long phone call with Apple, they said that the iCloud server was having problems with certain accounts.  They seemed to have fixed it and the mail started working again.
Then it stopped sending email BUT ONLY on my iMac (message says that stmp rejects my password).  I have the exact same settings (and password) on my Macbook Pro and the iCloud/Mac/Me mail is received and sent without trouble.  I have Snow Leopard on both computers and the same version of Mail on both computers. My Thunderbird email client receives and sends my iCloud/Mac/Me email on my iMac without a problem.  Apple Mail receives and sends my other email addresses (gmail, hover) without a problem.  Gmail is set to POP and Hover is set to IMAP.
    What I have tried:
    1) I have deleted the iCloud mail account and re-created it using instructions from Apple Support online as well as Mac users on the forums.  (I am not an IT expert, but I can follow instructions.)
    2) I have removed all saved iCloud/Mobile Me passwords from my keychain (both incoming and outgoing) in case there was an old one stored there.
    3) I have created a new IMAP account.  I have created a new Mobile Me IMAP account. I am not given the option in Snow Leopard of creating a new iCloud account -- but as I said the iCloud account (called Mobile Me IMAP) is WORKING on my Macbook Pro.
If I were having the problem with the Macbook Pro rather than the iMac, I'd just go to the Genius Bar and let them handle it.  But, if I can do it without packing up and carrying my desktop, that would be preferable.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Lanny,
Thank you for this.  I followed it "to the letter".  In fact, I tried it twice to make sure I didn't miss any steps. Both times, everything went as described until STMP.  When I got to the STMP page and hit "create", it once again told me that the STMP server name and/or password were "incorrect".  My iCloud mail arrives fine, but nothing can go out because the outgoing mail does not recognize my password (or at least that seems to be what is happening.) I tried to give up and set Thunderbird up as my default mail client, but iPhoto doesn't recognize it and when I want to email a photo, it opens Apple Mail. I just do not understand why it works on my MBP and not on my iMac. Nothing was changed on either computer.  It simply stopped sending outgoing mail on the iMac and continues to send out on the MBP.
    It's a mystery.

  • New message on .me and on iPhone, not in Mail on iMac?

Hi all, I had my wife send an email tonight, and after it had taken some time, longer than I thought for it to show on my iMac/Mail, I decided to check .me. Sure enough, it was there. I then went to my iPhone and Mail, and once again it was there. I'm now in mail and I've hit "get mail" numerous times and I'm still getting nothing. It's been in my inbox on both .me and on my iPhone for a solid 10 minutes. Clicking the "get mail" in Mail only gets me the audible alert that no new messages are available. It's pulled messages that I've received throughout today, but now suddenly not getting it. I also had her send a test email which showed on .me in a matter of seconds, but still nothing in the Mail app. Any clues as to what's going on? Thanks.

Open System Preferences on your iMac then select MobileMe then select the Sync tab.
Make sure Mail Accounts is selected. Make sure: Synchronize with MobileMe is selected, click Sync Now.
If that doesn't help, click the Advanced tab, select the iMac in the list then click: Reset Sync Data then click Done.

  • Transferring set-up for Mail from iMac to iBook

I just switched from AOL to Mail on my iMac and would like to have the same setup on my iBook. How can I do this without building everything from scratch a second time? I'm not sure where to look for the preferences or whatever that is saved for my Mail configuration. Any help?
    Thanks,
    Joanne

    Joanne,
One easy way to make the transfer, unless the Mail folder is of extreme size, is to Network the iBook with the iMac. More on this in a moment.
What you want to do, by network, target disk, or burned media, is REPLACE the com.apple.mail.plist file (Home/Library/Preferences), and the Mail folder (Home/Library/Mail ) on the iBook with a copy of the same files from the iMac. Once you have done this, launch Mail on the iBook, and you will be set. The same can be done with the Address Book (Home/Library/Application Support/Address Book.
To do this while in direct network link do the following:
On the iMac, click on System Preference icon in the Dock, and choose Sharing. Next place a check mark in box beside Personal File Sharing.
Now, on the iBook, open a Finder window, and click on the Network globe in the Sidebar, and you will see your iMac listed. Double click on the iMac icon, and when prompted enter the administrator password for the iMac. At that point choose to connect to your Home folder on the iMac, and then an Icon for that home folder will mount on the iBook. Open it the same as you would open the HD, and then open the HD on the iBook, and locate the files you wish to replace with copies of those on the iMac.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem in reaching my e-mail with iMac on Hotmail (sympatico)

    Her is my problem
I have many computers Mac and Thinkpad... but I still use my iMac OS9.2 and recently, my internet server, Sympatico, told me that I could not reach my e-mail without changing browser to Mozilla...
I don't know if it's worth the trouble just for an e-mail problem since I can get my e-mail with my other computers... But I find this anoying, insulting even...
All my other computers are using MozillaFirefox... Exept my PowerBook which is using Safari...
Is there an easy way to get Mozilla on my iMac OS9.2... I don't want to change my desk and having to rebuild it... The solution should be an easy one: downloading Mozilla like I did with my other computers(wich are all recent models 2007)... I don't know much about computers... so the solution has to be easy... Although I have friends that could help me understand any suggestion that I would receive here... If anything received is to complicated for me I would ask a friend to do it... if its worth the troublelike I said just for an e-mail reaching problem!
Thanks for any suport... or encouragement...or friendly Aple user reconfort!
How is it possible that all of a sudden a working computer cannot reach an e-mail... I was mad at my server wich is Bell-Sympatico and I told them I was going to cancel my subscription... But then I calmed down and tought that it would be stupid to do that just for an e-mail problem since I can go on internet with that iMac... Anyway, if any of you guys know ans easy solution for downloading a working version of Mozilla let me know... or any other way of gettin that iMac to reach my e-mail: [email protected]

    2.Is it easy to download?
3.Will I have to make any changes or ajustements on my present desk?
    Again: thank you!
If I manage to download that 1.3.1 or if I ask someone who knows about iMac os9 to do it, I will let you know how it went and if and how it is working...

  • Export mail from iMac to other iMac ,including archive maps

I want to transfer my mail items, including archive maps, to my second iMac on an other location.

    1) Moving from 2.5 year old MBPro to a new one.
    2) Have Time Machine
    3) Digging how fast the machine is and had a rental unit for a while (on which I just took everything using TM) and well, the rental machine "felt" like I just had my old computer back...but I wanted a faster computer
    4) Now I have a much faster computer, and I don't want to bring all my "old stuff" with me.
    5) But I want to bring in a few iMovie files, my email (I use both Mail and Entourage), certain other files, and a few apps
So, the main thing I don't know how to do is how to import all my email into Mail.
I tried moving Mail into a temp folder and restoring my Mail app from June 29th into the current Applications folder. When I started mail, the error message was "you cannot use that version of Mail with this build..."
I just don't want to "weigh down" my new computer with all my "old stuff." But I do need my email, some apps, and some files.
    Files: easy, find and import
    Apps: easy, find and restore
    email: please help!
Best, and I figured I'd ask, since I've tried the steps outlined in this thread...
    Sincerely,
    Dainis
Hmm...maybe because I updated my system on the rental, the Mail app needs 10.6.4 instead of 10.6.3. I kinda wish this would be better explained and I'm feeeling like this is a bit microsoftesque.

  • Safari quits when deleting AOL web mail on iMAC G4 after Apple update

Tonight I went to the Houston Galleria Apple store and reproduced problem several times using iMAC G5. Selecting several mail messages and deleting produced problem every time. I was able to delete individually clicking at end of line 3 or 4 times before crashing.
Surprisingly I used a new Intel iMac and could not reproduce problem after multiple attempts. I was shocked as was Mac Genius who was working with me. Multiple attempts using cocktail, removing preferences, reseting, cleaning AOL preferences etc was useless.
Mac Genius had no idea. Message to apple. Frustrated.

Hi James! And Welcome To Discussions!
    Deleting AOL Mail, crashes Safari
It seems the most recent Safari, and or 10.4.4, update has created this problem.
Apple & AOL are both aware of this, but, as far as I know, no correction has been implemented.
Here are some of the work arounds, that I have been able to discern from the various posts regarding this issue.
    Use the FIREFOX BROWSER.
    Use your AOL Mail program.
Use this utility AOL SERVICES UTILITY, to set up Apple Mail, to access AOL Mail.
Access the AOL Mail thru Classic AOL Webmail.
And here are links, to the various threads, discussing this issue.

  • HELP! serious problem receiving mail in iMac account

Here's is what seems to be happening:
I received my mail and the progress window showed it flowing in. I can spot the important items before they appear in the inbox by the title. Today there was a very important email from my daughter and it seemed to be downloading just fine.
However, when I went to look for it, it was nowhere to be found! I searched everywhere. I searched in the search field by using words that I remembered in the Subject line. I search by using the "From" typing my daughter's name. Nothing! It had completely evaporated.
I tried to download it again in my imac account and there was no mail to be downloaded.
What do I do to retrieve an important email that the Mail.app seems to have trashed without my permission?
The scary thing is that Mail may have been doing this on a regular basis while my attention diverted to something else.
BTW, I did rebuild my inbox, but the wanted mail would not appear.
    Griff

Yes, I mean Activity viewer, my bad!
And my account is a POP account.
And yes I have searched all available mailboxes and in my search have included "All Mailboxes." I also did Google Desktop and Spotlight searches just in case it might reside in a folder deep in the Library file system. It just doesn't exist!
I could see this email being downloaded and waited for it to appear in the inbox but when Mail.app had finished it didn't appear.
To update, this a.m. I thought I would give Entourage a try and it found the missing message in my .mac account, downloaded it and I was able to get it successfully.
I for one am giving up on Mail.app since I can't afford to have this happen again. I will go back to Entourage until Apple fixes the problem. If you search through the Apple Discussions in Mail & Address Book you will find a surprising number of people reporting their Mail mysteriously disappearing from their inboxes - especially lately. I for one am going to abandon Mail.app and go back to Entourage which seems much more reliable; slow, ponderous, bloated, but reliable.
