Mail on iPod touch Questions.....

Hi there,
I am currently considering the purchase of an iPod touch but have a couple of questions about mail. I currently have a cable company based email and a Yahoo Mail account.
Can I have both of these accounts synced to the iPod touch?
If so will Mail on the touch leave the email on the server (so my wife can also view it from Mail on our iBook at home) or will it automatically download all email to the iPod from the server?
Also, if I am out of wifi range will I still be able to generate and email using the touch and would it then send this email automatically when it receives a new wifi signal(kind of like texting on a phone when no service is available)?
Thnx.

It will check automatically for new mail if you tell it too; however, I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you want to charge your ipt twice a day- all that WiFi access goobles up battery time. You can check it manually as soon as you open the application. It updates automatically in that mode.
To answer your specfic question, yes, you can write emails and then send them when in range. It puts them in the "outbox" and will send automatically when a network is found.
As far as multiple accounts/providers, yes, you can set those up easily. And it doesn't remove emails from your server. I read my emails in 4 places. So, you can read them and toss them- they'll still be on your computer.
Welcome to the ipt world.

Can one use e-mail on ipod touch? If so how? Can you use MS Outlook? If not how can you access your e-mail?
    Thanks

There is no "built in" email software. You can use Safari to check email online though. Gmail and .Mac work well. I can check my Groupwise and outlook work accounts because they have a web based interface. Most employers provide a web based interface.

  • I can't get e-mails on iPod touch 1st gen. Error message that I have either incorrect username or password for Mac acct. checked settings both are correct.  Can get e-mails on iPad

I can't get e-mails on iPod touch 1st gen. Error message that I have eithermy password or username is incorrect.  Checked settings both are correct.  Can get e-mails on iPad

Try deleting the account from the iPod and reentering the settings.  It is easy to make an error and notbe able find it.

  • Free Yahoo Mail and iPod touch

Why does my free Yahoo mail account basically set itself up on my ipod touch while there is no way to set it up on my mac mail? it would seem like I should be able to have it on both.

I didn't say a perfect solution - just "a" solution. I am a little leary about that, too.
Do you have any ideas on my original question?

  • Cannot set up mail on iPod Touch using Mac's AirPort WI-FI.

This is FYI. My problem has been fixed so this might help someone. I could not set up my mail account on my new iPod Touch using my home Mac's AirPort WI-FI. I do not have a separate wireless router. I am running Tiger OSX 10.4.11 with an iMac. Safari and You Tube, etc. on the Touch was working fine. I kept getting "cannot connect using SSL" and "POP server...is not responding." I found out, by myself, that if I turned off my firewall on the Mac, my email account set up and I could receive and send emails. I also found out if I set up the account on another WI-FI, it would work. I don't like to turn off the firewall, so I won't check my email on my Touch using my Mac's WI-FI.

    A bit more info...
    The error message says -
    Cannot Send Mail
The connection to the outgoing server "smpt.me.com" failed.
    My server setting is smpt.me.com
    SSL is turned on.
    Port 587
    Sever is turned on
All the settings below the server on/off switch are greyed out so i cannot edit them myself.
The ipod touch is brand new yesterday and up to date with the latest software.

  • Can't get e-mail on IPod Touch

I have always gotten my AOL email on my IPod but today I couldn't.  I get the spinning wheel and it never stops checking for mail.  No mail appears.  I deleted my AOL account than added back but when I put it back just the inbox shows and it is empty.  Message continues to say checking for mail.  I added my gmail to see if it was an AOL problem but same thing happened to gmail.  I can get the e-mail on laptop and I can also get it if I go to aol.com and sign in.  Just doesn't work under mail.  Can anyone help me.

    - Reset iPod touch. Nothing is lost: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Reset network settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset Network Settings.
When you reset network settings, your list of previously used networks and VPN settings not installed by a configuration profile are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you’re on. The Wi-Fi and “Ask to Join Networks” settings are left turned on.
    - Power off and then back on the router.
    - Restore the iPod.

  • A few iPod Touch questions

Hi. I just got my iPod Touch yesterday, and I love it.
I just have a few questions about music settings and a few things in video.
First, is there a way to look at the album flow so it goes by the order of album name instead of artist?
    And two questions about video
Why do some videos have a blue dot next to some of the artist names?
And last, this is about full length movies. I've ripped a movie to my iPod, and I was hoping that I could put in chapter stops, so I don't have to hassle with the entire movie on the one small location-bar (can't think of a better wording for it The slide bar for the position of the movie)
Now, I've tried two things. First, I put the entire movie as a whole onto my iTunes. Is there a way to add chapter stops into that?
I also tried ripping each chapter of the movie, and moving them to iTunes. I put them under the same album name in hopes that they'd be linked together as one movie, but instead the chapters are separate from each other.
    Can anyone help with these?
    Thanks

Congrats on the new ipod Bonk!
1.no there just i havent found a way myself to do that either. Its just by default to be organized by artist name rather than album name.
2.the blue dots signify new videos that you have synced to your ipod allowing you know which videos are new so that you can find that video easily over older videos you might have on it.
    3. on these forums your not allowed to discuss movies ripped from a dvd.But your new so I will just encourage you to check out this site for better info forums.ilounge.com adn search there.

  • Setting up Mail on iPod Touch with a POP server

I can create an email account setup on my iPod Touch using my ISPs' POP connection. However if I go onto my wifes' MacBook or my MacBook Pro under Mail it shows the messages as still being unread. Is there any solution to this issue, so that once I read an email on my iPod Touch it will also show read (or deleted for that matter) on my other Macs?

    Hey bluespower,
The messages on the POP server cannot be marked as read in Mail on your mac after being read on the iPod touch. This is a limitation of a POP email account. You can setup an IMAP account with .Mac, Gmail, or Yahoo! and have this feature. This article will provide more information: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=51729
If you goto Settings> Mail> tap the account> Advanced, you'll see options for deleting emails from the server using the iPod touch.

  • Deleting e-mail on iPod Touch 2

I have an aol account on my iPod. The e-mail is working fine on my e-mail and everything else as well. No WiFi problems with my home setup.
My problem is that I can't seem to delete my messages that I no longer want. When I try to place the message in the trash it goes there but than I get a message it can't delete the message, etc. Is there any way to delete these messages. I of course can delete messages from my iMac or Notebook with no problem.

I had the same problem when trying to delete my AOL mail after I took the 2.2 upgrade. This worked for me - I imagine it would work the same on a Mac:
    1. Log onto your AOL account on your PC.
    2. In the My Folders tab on the left, add a new folder named Trash.
    3. Close out of AOL.
    4. Sync your iPod. (Don't know if this is necessary, but it's what I did.)
    5. Open your Mail on your iPod Touch. You will now have a Trash mailbox, right below your Sent mailbox.
    6. Now when you open a message and click on the trash can at the bottom of the screen, your message goes to the Trash mailbox. From there you can delete it.
Don't know why the extra step is necessary, but it's the only way I've been able to delete mail. Hope this helps.

  • A heap of iPod Touch questions...

    Hi everyone!
I've never been the type to want an iPod however with the introduction of the iPod Touch, I can see myself buying one in the near future. However I have a few questions, mainly relating to iTunes, that I want answers to before I splash out $AU549 on my first iPod.
    1. Does the Touch come with iTunes on disc?
    2. We have 2 computers in out house, one offline, one online. Obviously I will have to activate my Touch online before I can use it. Our online computer is an Intel Celeron about 3 years old with 512MB of RAM running Windows XP Home. Will this be sufficient for satisfactorily running iTunes?
    3. Is there anything important I should do before buying a Touch, such as downloading iTunes in advance, keeping in mind I have never owned an iPod before?
    4. Can someone please explain the "syncing" thing to me?
    5. Is it possible to download content, transfer it to a iPod and then transfer that to an OFFLINE computer as well?
    6. How can ordinary mp3s on my computer be put onto my iPod?
I would greatly appreciate any answers and would gladly give clarification if any one doesn't quite understand what I'm trying to say.
    Thanks

Podcasts are usually in the mp3 format. Audio Tracks are in AAC Protected format. About Syncing, itunes will work with any computer just note that on the offline computer the music store can't be accessed. You can still import, make playlist all that on it and by connecting an the ipod to it, it will copy all that to the device. Now, for the other computer if you have that ipod synced with with the other and connect it to another, it will erase the ipod onced its connected to the online computer and replace it with that computer's library. (of course if its the same content it won't matter) I would recommend, just from personal expericance to manage music manually, that way you won't have to worry about which songs are on or get replaced. For podcasts and photos for example, you can have set to sync. For manually manage music, to copy songs you just highlight the song and click and drag to the device (and with a whole bunch use the select all feature in the edit menu of itunes and click and drag those)

  • Can you send e-mails from ipod touch using a .mac alias?

    hi everyone,
i have a number of .mac email aliases set up on my email account, for instance for signing up to websites. when i send e-mail on my mac, i can select which alias i want the e-mail to be sent from. however, i don't seem to have that option on my ipod touch - mail is automatically sent from my main mac.com e-mail address.
is there anyway to send e-mail from one of my .mac aliases on my ipod touch?

Not at this time, no. You can submit a feature request to Apple:

  • I can receive mail on Ipod Touch 2g, but cannot receive

Recently, I changed my password on my e-mail account. I updated it on my Ipod Touch 2g. After updating it, I can receive mail, but I cannot send it. I have not noticed any separate settings for outgoing messages. Is there any? If not, why might it not allow me to send mail if I already updated the password?
It is probably not a connection issue, as I have had the same issue at different locations on different connections.

The outgoing mail setting/server is in the Setting for that mail account. It is likely an SMTP server.
iOS: Unable to send or receive email
You can Google for: setup xx mail on iphone

  • Problem replying in yahoo mail using iPod touch

    Hi,
I am not able to to reply to emails using yahoo mail configured in ipod touch, I have this message : Cannot Send Mail The connection to the outgoing server "(null)" failed.
But I'm able to send mails when not replying. What can I do to solve this problem?
    Thanks
    Pat

I had the same problem with Yahoo! Mail but even worse I found that I simply could not send any mail at all. The problem only arose this week after installing the new (1.1.4) software upgrade.
I had originally set up Yahoo! Mail using the option given on the Mail screen and it worked perfectly until the upgrade, which may just have been coincidental, I suppose. But I was then unable to send any mail at all. I deleted the e-mail account and then reapplied it but not by opting for the Yahoo! option on Mail and instead set it up as an 'Other' POP account, being sure to deactivate SSL and instead go for Password verification. From what I gather this is just how you would set up a Yahoo! Mail account for MacMail and this basically applies the advice that BT gives for Yahoo! Mail users with a Mac.
It then worked fine, but I lost the really cool real-time sync with Yahoo! Mail which I had had previously.
I have since managed to get Yahoo! Mail working again properly by simply trying and trying and trying to reapply the account as a true Yahoo! Mail account on the Mail icon and eventually it gave in to my dogged persistence.
    Good luck.

  • Mail on ipod touch without wifi

    hi,
I think I know the answer, but I want to be sure: if I have an ipod touch with mail, will I only be able to use it when there's (free) wifi around? I'm asking because the ipod touch sounds great, but I want to be able to use it everywhere. (so then I need an iphone I guess?). Or is there another way of connecting it to the internet?
    thanks.

You can download and send messages while on WiFi, however you can still view and compose message while you aren't on WiFi, and then send them when you get back into range.

    Hi folks,
I recently had to change my password in mobileme. I did a sync and I was able to get my on my powerbook and iPod touch.
Now today, I can still receive mail on my PB, but not on my IPT. I get a message about the wrong password.
I can't seem to figure out how to get my IPT to receive mail again.
    Thanks for any help,
    mhh~

Ok, I deleted the account on the IPT and set it up again. That worked!
Thanks! I really appreciated the help.
