If it's showing the 'open' button then it is already downloaded and is on one of your homescreens somewhere. You've checked all your homescreens and app folders for it, and can you find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right) ? There is a limit of 11 homescreens which you can access by swiping through them.
If you can't find it then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the iPhone has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

  • How do I open a PDF to a specific page via the command line?

    Several questions about opening PDFs from the Mac OS X command line:
    1) How do I use the "open" command to open a PDF to a specific page? (I know I can open a document via: open doc_name.pdf)
    2) How do I use the "open" command to pass multiple arguments (page no, zoom scale, view mode, etc...) to open a PDF file in a specific manner?
    3) Does Preview handle the same parameters as Acrobat Reader? If not, what are the differences in options?
    I've spent hours searching for this answer and have come up dry. I've downloaded Adobe's "PDF Open Parameters" document -- it lists all of the parameters I need, however I can't get any of them to work from the command line.
    My goal: Open a PDF from the command line to a specific page. At first glance, I thought this would be simple to do and find -- however, after a lot of searching I haven't found an example on how to do it.
    Anyone have any experience doing this, and care to share?
    Much appreciated! ---> Kelsey

    I don't know of any way to do what you want using the 'open' command. It can probably be done with Applescript, which you could call from a shell script. The Preview application doesn't seem to be scriptable. I don't use Acrobat, so I can't tell you anything about that. Looking through the dictionaries of the apps I do have, it seems that Skim (another PDF viewer) has an AS 'page' class. Below are a couple of links that may get you started. Look for more specific guidance in Applescript forums.

  • How to pass command-line options to app using the "open" command?

    I am using jedit, and since I'm doing a lot of stuff in a shell, I'd really like to launch it from the command line as though I'd opened from finder, so I wrote a script that contains this:
    open -a /Applications/Jedit.app "$@" &
    This works well for everything except NEW files, where I get this error:
    2007-02-16 19:29:48.072 open[1032] No such file: /Users/millerti/projects/ateon/new_file
    Is there a way I can override this?
    So, it occurred to me that I might try running jedit directly this way:
    /Applications/Jedit.app/Contents/MacOS/jedit -- "$@" &
    The trouble is that this suffers all sorts of weird problems. For instance, if there's already a jedit running, it launches another one (despite the fact that -server is default). Moreover, the file it opens, existing or not, is not the one I specify. If I'm in ~/mydir and I open ./myfile, jedit opens instead /Applications/myfile.
    Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Can someone help me figure out what open is doing internally so that I can launch jedit compatible with how open does it so that I can both open existing files and create new ones the same way from the command line?
    BTW, I can make more complex script.
    Also, if this isn't the right forum for this, can someone tell me where would be a better place to get the question answered?
    And I'm not expecting to get jedit support here. This isn't a jedit problem because it's behaving correctly.
    Thanks.

    Applications rarely take command line arguments. I don't know anything about Jedit, whether that is an exception, but you are not sending an argument to Jedit with the open command. The file name on your command line is an argument to the open command. The open command says "open this file with the specified application". The application doesn't see the argument. It sees the file exactly as if it were opened from the Finder. That's why naming a non-existent file doesn't work.
    What if you open Jedit with no file, create a new document in the application. (Again, I am not familiar with Jedit.)

  • How can I open a PDF file and enter a word in the Find field from the command line?

    Hi,
    I want to use a PDF file as the help file of another program.
    I have found somewhere an incomplete description of the command line parameters of Acrobat Reader.
    It described how to open a file and jump to its given page.
    I have written the following batch file based on that.
    rem Open pdf (prm1) with Acrobat reader at given page (prm2)
    "%adobe_rdr%\AcroRd32.exe" /N "zoom=73&page=%2=OpenActions" %1
    The following batch file opens the search dialog:
    rem Open pdf (prm1) with Acrobat reader
    rem and search for something (prm2)
    "%adobe_rdr%\AcroRd32.exe" /N "zoom=73&navpanes=1=OpenActions&search=%2" %1
    I need the simple find field instead of the complicated search window.
    Regards
                   Ferenc

  • Open application via. command line with parameters - Multiple times

    I'm using ANT to compile a program, then launch in FireFox ... I've looked all over for a solution to this, but have yet to find one.
    I need the command to open a specified URL in FireFox... easy enough, right?
    Solution #1 was to use the "open -a" command, with the URL- so "open -a FireFox.app/ http://someURL.com" ... the problem with this is that it opens a new window or tab every time- its a minor annoyance, but when you do 100 or more compiles during the day, its quite annoying.
    Solution #2 is to actually launch the program executable (FireFox.app/Content/MacOS/firefox) using the argument -url and that makes it so FireFox opens the URL in the current & front-most window. This worked great the first time, second time I get an error saying "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time."
    Anybody know how to make it so I don't have to close a window every time I compile? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Parsing in Weblogic/jsp doesn't work; application-mode (command-line) works

    Hello-
    Parsing my XML file in Weblogic/jsp doesn't work, whereas it works
    in application-mode... (albeit on two different machines)
    Here are the parameters:
    server1:
    weblogic 6.0
    win2k server
    jre1.3
    my personal machine:
    ***no weblogic***
    win2k server
    jre1.3
    When I run my code as an application (command-line style) on my machine,
    parsing in my xml file works fine, and I can do a root.toString() and it
    dumps out the entire xml file, as desired.
    However, running my code inside weblogic (on server1) in JSP, parsing in
    my file and doing a root.toString() results in the following: [dmui: null]
    (where dmui is my root)
    (even though i'm running it on two different machines, i'm positive its the
    same code (the servers share a mapped drive)...
    So, I think its probably because I'm using a different parser, as
    specified by weblogic? There are no exceptions being thrown. Here's my
    (abbreviated) code, which is called either command line style or in a JSP:
    // Imports
    import org.w3c.dom.*;
    import org.w3c.dom.Document;
    import javax.xml.parsers.*;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder;
    import org.xml.sax.SAXException;
    import org.xml.sax.SAXParseException;
    DocumentBuilderFactory docBuilderFactory =
    DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder docBuilder = docBuilderFactory.newDocumentBuilder();
    mDocument = docBuilder.parse (inFile);
    myRoot.toString()
    -END
    Doing a System.getProperty("javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory")
    results in:
    server1 (weblogic/jsp):
    "weblogic.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl"
    my machine (application-mode):
    null
    Does anyone have any ideas about how to get this work? Do I try to set it
    up so that they both use the same parser? Do I change the Weblogic parser?
    If so, to what? And how?
    Am I even close?
    Any help would be appreciated..
    Thanks, Clint

    Personally I would get rid of import com.sun.xml.parser.* and use xerces

    import org.xml.sax.SAXException;
    import org.w3c.dom.*;

    System.setProperty("javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory",

    "weblogic.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl");
    // create a document factory
    DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    // specify validating or non-validating parser
    dbf.setValidating(true);
    // obtain a factory
    DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder();
    // create a document from the factory
    inStream = new FileInputStream(xmlFile);
    document = db.parse(inStream);
    }//try
    catch (Exception e)
    System.out.println("Unexpected exception reading document!"
    +e);
    System.exit (0);
    }//catch
    }//BasicDom
    // Main Method
    public static void main (String[] args) {
    if (args.length < 1)
    System.exit(1); file://or you can be more verbose
    new BasicDOM(args[0]);
    }//class
    =============================================
    That will give you a basic DOM you can manipulate and parse it fromthere.
    BTW this code
    compiled and ran on WLS 6.0 under Windows 2000.
    Let me know if this helped or you still are having trouble.

    Hi, Rob
    Does it work in WL9.2?
    It seems I do it exactly as the explained at http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/programming/classloading.html - and it fails :o(.
    I try to run my app.ear with WL9.2 There are 2 components in it: webapp and mdb. The webapp/WEB-INF contains weblogic.xml:
    <weblogic-web-app>
    <container-descriptor>
    <prefer-web-inf-classes>true</prefer-web-inf-classes>
    </container-descriptor>
    </weblogic-web-app>
    Mdb is expected to run in the same mode, i.e. to prefer the webapp/WEB-INF/*.jar over the parent Weblogic classloader. To do so I add the weblogic-application.xml to the app.ear!/META-INF:
    <weblogic-application>
    <classloader-structure>
    <module-ref>
    <!-- reminder: this webapp contains
    prefer-web-inf-classes -->
    <module-uri>webapp</module-uri>
    </module-ref>
    <classloader-structure>
    <module-ref>
    <module-uri>mdb.jar</module-uri>
    </module-ref>
    </classloader-structure>
    </classloader-structure>
    </weblogic-application>
    Now, when classloader-structure specified, both webabb and mdb prefer the weblogic root loader as if prefer-web-inf-classes not defined at all.

    Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    If that doesn't work then also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Adobe Reader 11 (XI) won't open file via command line

    Hello,
    I have posted this question to probably inapropriate topic earlier today, so I am repeating it again.
    I installed newest Adobe Reader XI today and when I tried to open certain pdf file via command line, it reported a syntax error. Now, this syntax worked so far on versions 9 and 10  (I checked today with them and it is working), so my question is - where can I find new syntax, if there is any? Googling didn't help. Or what else could wrong?
    In previous versions I was able to open pdf file (on page 5) like this (all was taken from Help file "Open parameters")
    "CompletePathToAdobeReader"/A"page=5""CompletePathToPDF",
    ie
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"/A"page=5""d:\V2\DataSheet.pdf"
    but now - not that it doesn't open specific page, but it doesn't want to open file at all.
    edit:
    Operating systems running: Windows 7, Windows XP
    Thank you.

    Yes, it reported correctly becuase there is a syntax error in your command. Try spaces between the /A switch and open parameter. Try this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /A "page=5" "d:\V2\DataSheet.pdf"
    Hope this helps.

  • Is there any command line option, so that when I open firefox from command line it uses the already opened firefox, instead of creating a new firefox window.

    for example: this option is available with jedit editor.
    jedit
    above cmd always opens a new jedit instance.
    jedit -reuseview
    above cmd checks if there is a existing jedit instance if yes brings it to focus else opens up a new one.

    Start your '''Computer''' in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox.
    After a bit, close it. Then open it a few minutes later.

  • 2.3.10 -- Problem openning environment from command-line

    I am just starting to learn DB XML. I have downloaded and apparently successfully installed DB XML 2.3.10 (on a Ubuntu 6.06 Linux system). I am reading Danny Brian's book "The Definitive Guide to Bekeley DB XML". In Chapter 5, a command is shown to open/create an environment:
    <pre>
    $ dbxml -c -h myenv/
    dbxml> quit
    </pre>
    According to the book, I should expect to see 2 files in myenv/ --> __db.001 & __db.002
    I have created the directory myenv/ and set my defaullt to its parent. When I try this command, I get the error messages shown below:
    <pre>
    dbxml -c -h myenv/unable to initialize mutex: Function not implemented
    PANIC: Function not implemented
    unable to join the environment
    dbxml: error at lowest level: DbEnv::open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
    </pre>
    Adding a couple -vv's to the commands produced no more output! Have I successfully installed 2.3.10? Is there anything I'm doing wrong??
    Thanks,
    Denny

    I downloaded the 2.3.10 kit from the Oracle DBXML website a weekago. I unpacked the kit into /usr/local then ran sh buildall.sh!! (2.2.13 is also installed/build in /usr/local)
    I just now started another rebuild with the following commands (all while logged on as root:
    1. cd /usr/local
    2. rm -r dbxml-2.3.10
    3. tar -xvf <kit location>
    4. chown -R root:root dbxml-2.3.10 (was owned by cupsys:users??!!)
    5. sh buildall.sh
    This time, as all the checking messages came by, I noticed that selected mutex = x86/gcc-assembly
    There is one big difference between what I had been doing and this latest attempt: Previously, I unpacked the kit inot my home directory, then did:
    sudo mv <home copy of dbxml> /usr/local
    sudo chown -R root:root ......
    sudo sh buildall.sh
    Could using sudo been the cause of my problem??!!
    I just checked the db-4.5.20 config.log and saw
    db_cv_mutex=x86/gcc-assembly
    Earlier this week (as reported in an earlier response to this post), db_cv_mutex was set to POSIX-something!!??!!
    I am hopeful!!
