Mail on Macbook Air syncing too many emails!

I have just bought a Macbook Air and wanted to Sync my Hotmail Emails like I do on Iphone and Ipad. Problem is that it is syncing 20,000 mail messages from the last 10 years. I only need it to sync about the last two weeks or last 50 emails or something like I do on Ipad and Iphone.
I don't want to delete old messages on server because they are old work from university and writing Idid when I was younger for various projects, also messages from friends that I want to be able to look back on when I'm older. I also don't want them on my Macbook becasue they will clog it up and I like to keep things tidy, only things in my inbox which are releant to work and play today.
I can't find any option to regulate the inbox sync, only the trash and delete folders.

Hi, I'm sorry. I don't have an answer. Is there an Apple Store near you? The Genius Bar may be able to help. I hope you find a resolution. Seems like a very frustrating issue.  Good luck.

I'm an applications developer and also run a part-time videography business. As such, I require more than 3.12GB of RAM. That is the physical limitation of a 32bit system. Pointless to stay on 32bit if you plan on having more than that much RAM.
I'm also not about to pay someone to fix my PC when I can do it myself. I was originally hoping for someone who had experienced the problem before to point me in the right direction so I didn't have to spend so much time trying to figure out what the issue was for myself.
Basically, in the end the problem was caused because right at the point in time when I chose to uninstall, and reinstall; Apple released a new version of iTunes. This version in turn had a requirement of iOS 4.2 to sync with the iPhone. This is a pretty embarrassing for Apple that they would release software reliant on other software before said software was released.
Had I realised I was downloading a newer version at the initial point of installation, this wouldn't have been an issue. I could've easily have rolled back iTunes to the previous version and gotten on with my life.
Another issue is that iTunes is not actually a 64 bit application. It masquerades as one to allow installation on the 64 bit platform.

  • New macbook air loads thousands of emails?

Setting up a new Macbook Air, w/Comcast wifi.  Mac is loading (finding) emails all the way back to 2007!
Over 17,000 emails!  Tried shift scrolling to highlight and delete, but they keep coming back!

No, you'll have to select them all one by one. Select the Edit icon in the top right side, select as many as you can, then hit "delete".
In you case it would be better to remove the mail account, delete all the mails on the server, using the PC,  then add your mail account back to the iPad.

  • Exchange mail clogging MacBook Air

How can I limit the amount of email stored on my MacBook Air as it is eating up my storage. My email downloads from a Microsoft Exchange server.

You want to get Mail to download headers only and only download the body of the email once you have opened it.
    Or.
As your email server is Exchange, you should be able to access it online. That way you use no local storage.

  • Macbook Air is too slow to use

My Macbook Air takes nearly 30 minutes to start up, and often even when I am just running 1-2 applications takes 10 minutes to respond to a key or click.
    OS X 10.6.8, 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB memory.
For a while, running permission repairs weekly helped.
I have cleared the cache form Firefox, stopped using Safari b/c it was too bulky.
Activity monitor shows I still have 33 GB memory, and that the percent of processes running is low, even when the computer is slow.
Sometimes everything freezes for 10 mintues, other times, I see the spinning disc for a long time.
The worst is that each time the computer goes to sleep, it can take me 10-20 minutes to wake it up.
Please tell me the hard drive isn't dying again--the first one that came with the machine died only 4 months after I'd had it, and this one is barly 2.5 years old.

Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or "failed".
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.

  • My macbook air became too slow, my macbook air became too slow

    Hi dear Mac users
My macbook air became very slow.... is it because I have too many pics? or can I do some type of organization that I never did before?

Saying it is running slow is a bit vague, can you be more specific about when/how it is running slow (i.e. what tasks/programs/actions are you undertaking when it runs slow?)
It is doubtful that you have so many pics on your Air that it is running slow because of that, you'd have to have 10s of thousands of pictures to even come close to filling up the storage capacity of a 128 SSD (which I'm just guessing you have.)
By "organization" I'm assuming you're referring either to doing a disk defrag (not necessary on Mac's, especially an SSD driven Air due to the nature of SSD read/write capabilites,) or you're referring to how you have your pictures arranged in files on your storage drive, which isn't likely to be the culprit, either.
Given the lack of knowledge I'm going to guess that if you're noticing the slowness during normal operations it is probably going to be due to having too many CPU-intensive apps running at the same time (running flash based webpages is a major CPU hog as well as some high-res video or 3D apps/games.)
Let us know more and I'm sure someone here can help you figure it out, though.
    Cheers!

  • Not receiving iCloud e-mail on MacBook Air

    Hello.
I don't seem to be receiving e-mail on my MacBook Air, although it goes to both my iPhone and iPad just fine. There are no Rules, Forwarding, or Junk Mail issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey Harlemite In Stockholm,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like the Mail application is not receiving emails. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • IPhone iOS 7 and Macbook Air Mavericks, deleting hotmail emails to POP folder! Help!

I have an iPhone using the iOS 7 and a Macbook Air using Mavericks (although I'm not sure how relevant this is) and both are set up to receive and send emails to my hotmail account.. Every so often (I think a month or so) I check my emails on either device to find that my hotmail emails have been deleted from my device. When I then log on to hotmail's website, they have been moved to a POP folder, so I then have to move my emails to my inbox and the phone and macbook start receiving them again, very strange! I assume somewhere the settings are wrong, on either my macbook or phone (or possibly hotmail itself). If you have any ideas, please help me, it's getting very annoying!
    Thanks!

    Hey lkpolovchik,
Thanks for the question. Yes, you can continue to use iCloud Contacts, Calendars and other services with OS X Mavericks and iOS 8 devices. Only some features require iOS 8. For a full list of minimum system requirements by feature, check out the following resource:

  • Is there a way to have MSOffice-Mac on my MacBook Air sync wirelessly (and non-manually) with iWork on my iPhone without a third-party app?

I purchased a MacBook Air after hearing that it can sync wirelessly with all iOS devices. I then purchased the iWork office for my college courses and found out that the school requires online students like me to use Microsoft Office for Mac. An Apple phone rep explained that this software syncs in read-only mode with the iPhone. Is there really no way - besides third party software like Dropbox, Windows Live SkyDrive, or Docs To Go - for me to sync my homework between iWork on my iPhone and MS Office my new MacBook?

Go through this article: How to back up your data and set up as a new device or do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
