Mail on my mac suddenly died....sort of....
Hi. Hope someone can shed some light. I've had mail on my iMac for years, synced with my yahoo mail account.
I've just noticed that the account on my mac is not showing any of the incoming mail. Sometimes it randomly asks for
my password for the imap or the smtp (I really don't know what these are. sorry) so I figured it was just that. Nope.
I knew something was wrong when I tried to delete a message in my inbox.
I got this message: The attempt to read data from the server “imap4-rr.mail.us.am0.yahoodns.net” failed.
Ive never seen this before. In my inbox, I can't get any new messages and when I try to resend a message (that I thought went out the other day)
I get the spinning wheel for an eternity and am forced to Quit Mail. (I'm getting the mail on my phone and on the Yahoo page on my mac, just not Apple mail)
I went and added the account again, same issue. Basically the mail on my mac does not work.
It will let me click on old mail and it brings those up, but nothing as of today, can't send mail and can't delete old mail.
Connection doctor gave me this:
green dot......smtp.mail.yahoo.c...SMTP connection and login to server succeeded.
Ditto for the Yahoo! IMAP O
Only my smtp.gmail.com:p SMTP log on failed. (Which I'm not concerned with because I don't use that account)
Any ideas what's causing this?? Nothing is dimmed and it all looks like it always does. I upgraded to
to the OS X 10.9.5 months ago. Never had an issue with the mail accounts.

Do a backup.
Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

Mini Mac suddenly won't connect to the net.

Didn't realise you guys existed until I was pointed in you direction so I'm hoping you might be able to help.
I started this thread http://forums.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=71654 on another forum I use. It has all the details of my problem. If there is anything I should be doing it would be great If you could point me in the right direction.

I've been running a mini mac for nearly a year now and all's been well up until last friday. I use Tiscali's cheapo broadband package and that has been problem free until the mac suddenly decided that it can't connect last Friday.
It's set up so that it automatically tells you when the adsl modem is connected. You can then check the modem and it is running fine. If I then try and open an internet page it's saying that the internet isn't conected. If I open internet connect and click for it to connect then it just say that it is idle and won't do anything different. When you look at the connection log it says that a pipe is broken?? and that's why it won't connect.
If I look at the system information then it says that ethernet (en1) is enabeld but the cable isn't connected. Tried everything I can think of but it hasn't helped. Contacted apple but they want £35 to try and talk me through the problem. Tried Tiscali but all there suggestions have made no difference.
I'm now using a six year old PC that's taken the best part of a week to get me online, I'm guessing the connection is OK as it's working on this PC but why isn't it working on the mac? Any advice will be genuinely appreciated
Tried unplugging/ re attaching all the cables but it made no difference. I'm using the same modem and cables at the moment with this dodgy old PC so I'm guessing there isn't anything wrong with them.
I do the repair permissions thing so but hasn't seemed to help.
It's a Mini Mac running OS 10.3.9 ( I think ) I use Tiscali via a phone filter and then into a sagem modem (whatever they give you). The modem is connected to the mac via a usb cable.
I've tried a different cable, and the modem is working Ok with this PC. So It's not Tiscali's end.
I've jut spent the last hour messing around with the mac but it's making no difference. The Mac knows that the USB modem is connected but it won't connect to the net. I just tried to use tiscali's DNS number but I can't seem to sort it, I even tried pinging that number but nothing is coming back. It was set up to use ethernet adaptor (en1) and then you just clicked on a little icon in the top bar and it would connect to the net.
Is there any way to wipe all the settings and try to get it going from scratch. Would it work if I bought a router and plugged it straight into the mac without a modem? There is a firewire connection on the back.
If I look back it says something about a broken pipe. On the network set up screen it says that the cable isn't connected to (en1), so I'm guessing that may be why it not getting in contact with the net?
I've now had suggestions to ditch the modem and buy a router?? Is there anything I should looking for in particular?

Mail disappears from Mac account inbox

I'm a relative apple newby. I have 2 mail accounts, 1 of which is an apple mail account. On 2 occasions now all the mail in my mac inbox has just disappeared. Any ideas how to retrieve them and why is this happening?
Tks in advanceMy wife has a sub-account on our MM family pack subscription and had this issue: occasionally mail on her iPhone would appear briefly in the iPhone inbox, then disappear from the list. It never showed up in Mail.app at all. (I have the master account on this family pack and haven't had this issue… knock on wood.)
I was also a recipient on some of those mails -- but if I forwarded them to her she still didn't get them. I had to copy the text out of the messages and paste into a new mail. That worked. So it seems there's something in the mail header (perhaps?) that causes this… yet the mails have not all been from the same person / address. In fact, mail from person "A" might do this disappearing thing today, yet mail from the same person "A" might work fine tomorrow. It's that sort of multi-variable, intermittent problem that's very hard to pin down.
I tried changing her password -- to guarantee that only her known clients were logging in (no lurking POP mail readers that she'd forgotten about). No effect. Then I tried turning off her junk filters, both local and online at MobileMe (thinking maybe some rule was out of control -- deleting random messages, rather than filing them as junk). No effect (other than a lot of complaints from her about junk in her inbox, of course).
Finally, she suggested that maybe it had to do with MM push services -- since it only happens on the iPhone, not on her Mac. We turned off push on her iPhone and voila! It seems to have fixed the issue.
I haven't found anyone else who's connected this with data push on the iPhone. I'd be interested if other folks who try this as a solution would see if it works for them and post results here. -

These are the recommended troubleshooting steps for when messages seem to have disappeared:
If you have more than one account, make sure you’re looking at messages for the correct account.
If you sorted messages, they may be in the list but not in the order you expect.
It’s possible that a rule moved the message to another mailbox. Search for the message.Search messages
Quit Mail and then reopen it.
If the problem persists, you might need to rebuild the mailbox.Rebuild mailboxes

Ich möchte die Mails z.B. auf meinem Mac Book anschauen und löschen und ebenfalls auf dem iPhone und i Mac gelöscht haben? Ich finde nirgends einen beschrieb. Wenn ich die Account einrichte (von Hand) dann findet keine verknüpfung statt. Danke für die Hilfe....
I struggle with English, never mind German! If I interpret your query correctly you are asking how you open/save an email attachmnt created in MS Word. You need a compatible app such as Pages or Documents to Go. You can, as you will have discovered, read the attachment but do nothing else with it. Do not delete the email meanwhile.

All Airport Express Suddenly Died
I have 2 airport express I have been using around the house they suddenly died (no power) a week after the other. This is a real bummer since I am using the 2 as a different SSID to my new Airport Extreme (n) since the freaking thing doesn't work with VPN.
Do you have any idea what happened?
I am rethinking this whole Apple networking setup this has been very frustrating.

MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.9)They both have no power? I would say to take the base stations to an apple store and let them swap out the plugs on the airports to see if maybe its just a case a power surge has blown the fuses in the airport express's.
If its just the plugs then you can buy new plugs to clip onto them, if its not then you are very unlucky and both airport express have suffered a fault at the same time inside the base station itself. -
Ok Apple users...Is there a way to delete e-mails on my Mac and not have to delete the same e-mails on my iPhone, and iPad...and vise-versa. I have the Cloud, and thought that everything would sync all of the time. If you know of a setting I need to adjust, please let me know.
Are you referring to @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com emails? Or some other email providers emails?
If the former, it should do that automatically. If the latter, no. iCloud does not (nor is it supposed to) sync non-Apple provided emails. -
my mac air died, after i reinstall from dvd drive, when i boot up again, i saw a prohibit sign showing up on the screen, then get to my logon screen. After logon, it takes very long time to load any application. pls help

When the disk is starting to die it can be bad for a moment and then be good for a while. If there was no problem while you were checking it of course it shows up good.
I tell you those are the signs of a disk that is about to die.

Hi everyone, I have a macbook pro from 2008 which is the model before they became unibody. I have been having trouble using some of the built-in apps ever since i updated to 10.7.4. I cant use mail or the Mac App store becuase when i go to click on a link to purchase something in the Mac App Store of create a new email in Mail, the app just crashes. I am then asked to reopen the app and i try to do the same thing again and they same thing happens. Its really painful as i want to download applications and access my mail on my mac. Could you guys please get back to me on with somethings that i could try to get these apps working again.

not able to open mail from my mac, gmail repeatedly asking for password. but using same password able to open gmail on safari
okay well they got me to take out some .plist files to see if that would help it didn't. I'm not sure what ones that they deleted for my self maybe someone here would be abel to tell you what ones to take out but didn't work the one that came close to working was this going into keychain and deleting the account(s) then reading them again.
if you are to do this please back up first with Time Machine. You can do this with a usb drive.
Okay so go back to where you had internet accounts and make sure mail is shut. click the - on the account your having problems with then quit system preferences.
Okay so then press cmd and space bar at the same time then type 'keychain access' into the search then click on 'keychain access'
once it is open go to the top of the window and put your email address that you are having problems with.
once you have put in your full email, have a look at what comes up i deleted things in the kind colome with 'internet password' and anything with under name that had smtp.gmail.com or imap.gmail.com so it would look like this, map.gmail.com - internet password.
right click and delete them. make sure not to touch any other files that dont say them things on them.
Once you have done this quit keychain access and then restart the computer, once the computer is restarted go back to system preferences and internet accounts and re-add the account.

The solution was to remove all versions of Acrobat Pro and reinstall Acrobat Pro XI. I still had the download file in my Time Machine backup. That's a good thing, since the download link from the order listing on the Adobe website under my account would not work.
The problems don't occur with version 11.0.0. I got the work done, now I'm updating to 11.1.0 and will report if they came back. -
Hi, I have just set up my domain email address with google and Im trying to set up mail on my mac. Its receiving mail but its not letting me send emails from that address. I have tried quite a few solution but cant figure it out. Can anyone help

How do I duplicate the folders in Mail on my Mac to Mail in iCloud?
I have set up a series of folders in Mail on my Mac where I file all of my emails.
During the day I often access Mail on a PC via iCloud and there are no folders set up on my iCloud version.
Is it possible to duplicate my folder set up from Mail on my Mac to Mail on iCloud and to have changes made on one (e.g. messages deleted, new folders raised etc.) reflected on the other?You should create your mail folders on the iCloud server (under ICLOUD in Mail), not locally on your Mac (under ON MY MAC) for them to show up on other devices and at iCloud.com.
Anything stored locally on your Mac only exists on that specific Mac so leave all your mail on the server and organise it there.
