Mail on OS X and alias accounts on single mac membership

Hi:
I created two alias accounts under my single mac membership because it said you could, they work fine via the webmail but not via the full client on the desktop.
I get the mail fine but if I reply it shows my original email address. The other thing it does not give me the option to pull down while composing what email alias I want to send my mail from to people. In webmail it works fine but on the client I cannot seem to import the feature.
I have a mac book that shows mail will pull it in but nothing showing how to get it to work.
Suggestions/advice if you have them I would love.
Thanks and enjoy the day.

I am unable to send emails using mail from my btinternet and yahoo accounts similar problem to others with mobile me accounts on lion any suggestions?

Do I need to delete all my email accounts and start again?

  • Using Mail with both pop and imap accounts

I have a Q to better understand how the Mail app. works in Lion so there is better coordination among my devices and mail = I'd like to lay out how it is now set up and see whether or not I'm right about how to handle them - and how to do things better.
    1.  I have a .mac account and no problems with it = if I read and delete on iPhone it deletes off iPad and computer fine.
    2.  I have an email account that is an IMAP account but at another host [I use Mail to get email from it] - so what I think happens is that it's sort of the same thing but operating on that other host as an IMAP so that the same thing happens more or less - email comes in on all 3 devices and when I delete from one it deletes from others = but maybe not as fast because it's going thru the Mail intermediary.  My need/wish is to use one email program [Mail] to get all my mail and that's why this and others all go thru Mail.
    3.  I have a 3rd account that is a POP account and can't be made IMAP because of the nature of the plan/host - in that I've noticed that I'll have 100 messages on my main computer and delete 75 of them but the 100 are still left on the iPhone and iPad = so far I don't do much about it but I hope/assume I'm right to think that if I know I've read and dealt with the 100 messages that if I want to I can just delete them all quickly off the iPhone or iPad...I'm not sure how to handle a Pop account to minimize all the hassle.
Does this seem like the right way to go or is there a better way to manage these 3 diff. accounts ???  I noticed some of the problem when I checked Mail on my iPad and saw there were loads of old emails 'unread' on it that I had dealt with on my computer so I knew things were out of whack.
Last thought = I do go to Synchronize all Accounts from time to time but really don't notice it makes a difference but maybe I don't understand tht either.
    thanks much

Okay, it just fixed itself without me doing anything, or even quitting the program again. It still seems like a bug.

  • How to export old sent mail in my macbook and import it in my Mac?

I want to export my old sent mail in my macbook and import it in my new Mac?

There is a bug when doing “export mailbox” and import mailbox functionality.
    Workaround:
      > Open Finder and under the “Go” menu, hold down the option key.  The “Library” sub-menu will show up.
      > Copy the entire “Library > Mail” folder to a USB disk (it will not work if copying to a shared drive for some reason)
      > Take the USB disk to the new computer and do an “Import Mailbox” and select the copied Data file.  There will be LOTS of folders that come up for import, you can browse through and deselect what you don’t need (e.g. trash or junk mail), OR just import everything and then clean up from your mailbox.
      > The imported folders will show up in mail under the “On My Mac” area.

  • My aol mail account is getting many mail retuned as undeliverable and my account seems to be sending random messages without my knowledge. Any ideas?

Any idea why my aol mail account all of a sudden is sending random messages without my knowledge and I get back many many "mail as undeliverable"messages?

So I tried to restore my system to 2 weeks ago using the Leopard install DVD and my Time Machine back-up and my MBP won't boot from the DVD at all. Just a gray scree, no gear, logo, or anything.

  • I purchased a iPhone from a individual, so, it has all his information as far as signing into iTunes...I want to change the Apple ID/e-mail on my iPhone and iTune account without loosing the current information/settings on my iphone.

Everyone that has or had a iPhone, if they did not buy from the dealer, they purchased it from a individual...in most cases, the phone has to be unlocked unless it's being used with the same carrier as the seller.  My question is, when you purchase the phone from a individual and it has been unlock and has the seller's information...e-mail/Apple ID information for iTunes..so I can't purchase anything from the apple store because I don't have his password...I was wondering how do I change that without resetting it to the original settings, is there any way I can purchase from the iTune Store with my own Apple ID.  Since he does not own this phone anymore, there should be a way to change that....I am just wondering...HELP?
I sold my first iPhone, it was unlocked, and the guy that purchased my phone, set up it so he could use his own Apple ID, but, I never asked how he did that, because I did not think at the time I would purchase another iPhone...  anyhow, does anyone have the answer...please advise...thanks in advance...

Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in using your ID.

  • EXTERNAL mail bouncing from deleted and recreated account

I do not believe this is the X.500 LegacyExchangeDN issue, as the problem occurs for external users only and the error states it is a DNS issue.  The reply is going to <ADDomain>.local, so that shouldn't resolve properly.  My question is
why the .local address is being used and how to fix that.
Here is the error report from a bounced message:
    IMCEAEX-_O=FIRST+20ORGANIZATION_OU=EXCHANGE+20ADMINISTRATIVE+20GROUP+20+28FYDIBOHF23SPDLT+29_CN=RECIPIENTS_CN=<User Name>+20<UserLegacyExchangeDN>@<ADDomain>.local
    Technical details of permanent failure:
DNS Error: Domain name not found
    Thanks for any ideas,

  • ICloud Password to Insert and Remove Account from your Mac with Mountain Lion for better Security

    Hello
In fact I would put one in Schedule TIP for Apple, which would give greater security for users of the Mountain Lion operating system, or any other that supports iCloud.
Would putting an administrator password to remove the iCloud account from your computer, once again, that only with her that if you can find the mac, alert by Find My Mac
Otherwise, anyone who steals your mac, or act in bad faith, it can handle, and remove or simply log off from your account iCloud, and beyond what I think most serious, which is losing function of my Search Mac, and contact settings, calendar, among others.
As with the iPhone, iPad, iPod .... RESTRICTIONS have the option, which many users do not use because they do not know, more is NOT a function that allows a thief eg delete your iCloud account from your device when you turn to that does not allow changes to Accounts and Location.
That it should have, or simply their own password to enter, and REMOVE the computer. What would bring much greater security for us users. This all in both IOS and in OS X. All to remove your iCloud account password needed.
Or creating a menu PRIVACY, you chose for which adjustments or applications, you'd want it to be password request, the type for Mail or Skype, although the computer is personal, but there is that possibility of someone picks open it and move on that should not.
I ask that Apple is to sensitize the issue, and we help users to develop a system better and safer.
    Sincerely,

  • Admin and User Accounts for Single User

I am the only user of my iMac. According to the article I found below, I should create a User Account for myself and use that one for my daily work. Is this correct?
"Don't use the administration account for anything other than setting up the machine and applications or changing "permanent" settings (if you want to, say, change network settings as a normal user you'll be prompted for the admin password, and since you'll do configuration changes less and less often as time progresses, this isn't a problem)."

Aha! It would appear that this is exactly the sort of thing that using a non-admin account would normally protect you from.
..."yet all applications are available to me in Finder > Applications"...
That's good news. So I wonder where the "Applications" folder has been moved to... The folder that is opened when "Finder" is activated is something that can be changed through the "Finder" > "Preferences" menu under "General". I suspect that it is either "Home" or "Documents", so that when you refer to "Finder > Applications", the path is actually either "Macintosh HD" > "Users" > "Applications", or else "Macintosh HD" > "Users" > "Documents" > "Applications".
To put things back, it might be easier to temporarily remove any "Parental Controls" from your current account and check the "Allow user to administer this computer" check box.
Then rename the "Macintosh HD" > "Applications" folder (the one with only "iTunes") to something else, eg "Applications-temp". After that, open a second window and drag the folder you refer to as "Finder > Applications" to where it belongs in the "Macintosh HD" window.
Now check the versions of "iTunes.app" in the "Applications" and "Applications-temp" folder - one way to do this is to click on the iTunes icon once and change the "Finder" window to "Column View" ("View" > "As Columns", or use the keyboard shortcut ⌘3). The version number should be displayed in the "Preview" panel. Take the older version (lower version number), and throw it away. If necessary, drag the newer version into the "Macintosh HD" > "Applications" folder.
Now, open "Macintosh HD" > "Applications" > "Utilities" > "Disk Utility.app", select your hard drive, and click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button (not the "Repair Disk" button). This might take a few minutes.
Hopefully that will do it, and you can go back and make the account a non-admin again.
I should mention that with some third pary apps, if they were originally installed while the "Applications" folder had been moved, they may complain if their location is changed. It might be necessary to reinstall those, although it will likely depend on a case to case basis.

  • Perhaps novice Q: multiple devices/accounts, versus single Mac

My family members have multiple ipads, iphones etc, and separate itunes accounts.  we are in process of consolidating PCs/Macs etc, such that we may only have one main household Mac.  Can one Mac support syncing/updates etc across mulipe devices & accounts, whilst keeping accounts & libraries independant?
i have tried and failed miserably.  i suspect i am missing something obvious any advice?

Well it seems like the first thing you should do is consolidate your iTunes libraries so that you don't have 4 copies of everything, one for each user logged in to your Mac Mini. How you do that is consolidate all 4 iTunes folders to one folder located in the /Users/Shared/ folder and update each of your iTunes to point to that folder accordingly. That way you have one iTunes library, only one copy of your media, but accessible from multiple users.
One caveat is that if somebody is logged on and has iTunes open, you can't fast switch to another user and open iTunes. Apple made it so that only one user and one instance of iTunes can open a iTunes library at a time.
For your iTunes match situation, it does sound like you would be much better off sharing a single Apple ID with one iTunes Match. For consolidating, make sure you have everything everybody has shared via Home Sharing to the main account you'd like to move over to, and then simply go to each device Settings, Store, and the sign out of the original Apple ID and logon using the shared main Apple ID. I just looked at it and the automatic downloading is already live in iOS! You can specify if you want to do music, apps, and books separately in case you may want to automatically download music but not apps or books.

  • Snow Leopard / Mail -- mail keeps getting redownloaded and shows as new mai

    Hi.
Anyone had this problem? After I upgraded (?) to Snow Leopard, Mail.app now redownloads my mail from multiple IMAP and POP accounts and shows it as new.
This happens at times I cannot predict. I don't see a pattern to when this happens. I can't predict when it will happen.
So at seemingly random times, Mail suddenly shows that I have 400 unread e-mails. Even though these are e-mails I've already dealt with.
    Anyone see this before?
    Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks in advance.

I don't think that a software update from Apple will solve the issues that you are having. You have a rogue installation. After you posted I have just done the following:
Disk Utility can verify  my partitioned Volume (including my boot disk) AND REPAIR the non-boot disks on the same Volume without a glitch. It repairs the non-boot disks containing data smoothly.
I have used Mail to send some mails from some Yahoo and Hotmail accounts to my Thunderbird client containing GMail accounts - absolutely normal.
I have iLife '09 but my iMovie '09 and iPhoto '09 open in a jiffy and I see no issues here. I have 6GB RAM (Maximum) on an early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 750GB hard drive partitioned with 120GB reserved for the Boot Drive.
I am sorry that I cannot help further but I am sure there must be a way to reinstall the software without having to revert to restoring your ML backup. I have two clones and if you have such I would attempt to do that through that rather than through Time Machine - that is of course if you have a cloned drive.
    Good luck!

  • Mail failing in new and amazing ways

Many questions here and many frustrations.
    Running 10.5.6
1: Starting yesterday whenever I open Mail my Gmail account downloads my recent mail just fine. But any time after that the spinning icon next to the account spins forever and it won't download any more mail. The only way to quit the program is by force quitting. It's a POP account. No changes to the mailbox preferences seem to have any effect. Spins forever.
2: I have another computer configured with Mail for 10.4 and it downloads my Gmail with no problems.
3: I created a new POP account and it also doesn't work. And NOW my messages are all over the place. This might be a good time for me to figure out where all these mail messages are stored on my computer and if I have to delete this account will I ever be able to have all my Gmail messages in one account list again?

To further elucidate my problem (and hope that someone replies):
Activity monitor shows that Mail is hanging up on "Fetching New Mail" on two separate and unrelated accounts. Stopping them in the Activity Monitor doesn't work, it tries to stop interminably.
Connection doctor shows that for both of these accounts: "Connection and login to server succeeded."
Cannot quit the program normally. Must force quit, and again, upon restarting Mail successfully downloads recent mail, then hangs on the fetch the second time around.

  • How do I edit the phone number associated with my iCloud and iMessage account.

    Hi All,
I recently synced my moms phone onto my MacBook and this has effected my iCloud,Facetime and iMessage accounts on my Mac,iPad and iPhone.  When I look at preferences on iMessage and facetime, it lists my moms phone number, how can I edit that phone number to be mine ? We are both on the same iTunes account.
    Thanks

Do you not set the phone number within Apple ID

    and not iCloud?
    May be wrong here:(

  • Husband with iCloud account and alias e-mail for wife. Now wife got her own account and wants her e-mail address.

    Hi there,
i have an icloud account and punt an alias for my wife in there. ([email protected])
Now she got her own iPhone and her own iCloud accout and would like to have her e-mail address on her own icloud account.
I have deleted the alias but icloud still says the address is in use. Is there any way for her to get her own e-mail address on her account?! ([email protected])
Do we just have to wait until icloud recognize that this address isn't an alias anymore?
Ohh my god! I need help...please
    Regards
    Patrick

I'm afraid that you can't use this address. Aliases cannot be moved to another account, nor turned into a full account, and once deleted cannot be reactivated. Sorry; but you will have to create a new address when you open a new iCloud account for her.
