Mail on OSX 10.7.5  has incoming mail server field grayed out

Trying to configure my iCloud email using Mail in OSX10.7.5   and in the settings the field for incoming mail is grayed out, yet every time I try to save to exit that window, it gives me an error message that it needs an incoming mail server.  Can't enter it because I can't get into the field, which is showing po2-imap.mail.me.com     Any thoughts on how to remedy?

I tried this and it entered the same info that was there and the incoming mail server field is still grayed out and I still get the "The incoming mail server cannot be empty" message when I go to exit the iCloud account window.

  • Why POP Mail Account on Iphone not synching for incoming mails

I just setup my iphone mail account as a POP client to synch up with my corporate Outlook Mail.
For the outgoing mail server I used cwmx.com and for incoming I used the hostname provided by IT support person , with username and password as I would use on my outlook client.
No SSL used in our case.
The setting went fine as I did not see any errors,
but when I try to synch for new mails, it says checking and than says updated, but I don't see any mails coming in.
The send mail works fine from this account.
    Can anyone help.

I think what you mean is that you cannot have an email POP account on a laptop and on iphone look for the same messages on the incoming server.
I mean exactly what I provided. A POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only. When a POP account is accessed with more than email client, the setting for removing messages from the server when downloaded needs to be off with both email clients used to access the account.
And if accessed with more than one email client, you cannot have both email clients actively accessing the incoming mail server for new messages at or near the same time. If one email client checks the incoming mail server for new messages followed by another email client doing the same at or near the same time, the incoming mail server will lock the account's Inbox mailbox preventing the 2nd email client from accessing the account's Inbox mailbox and downloading new messages if any are available. This is a temporary lock and is due to a POP account being designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
The same does not apply to an IMAP account which is designed to be accessed with more than one email client with multiple email clients being able to access server stored mailboxes at the same time.
Please answer my question which was copied from my previous post and was provided first.
*Since this is a POP account, what is your account setting with Outlook for removing messages from the server when downloaded?*

  • HT4864 incoming mail server is grayed-out

How do I get my "incoming mail server' un-grayed?  It won't let me put information on that line.
    Thank you.

The p10 number is one of those added by the system and appears to represent different geographical areas - it's quite normal.
If you are having problems with the setup you should sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud and sign back in again, emabling Mail in the checklist. This should set it up correctly. It's not designed to let you do this manually in the Mail application.

My Incoming Mail Server  for iCloud is grayed out....so, it is not working. How to fix?

It easiest way that sometimes solves the problem would be to delete your account from your Mac (system
Preferences... > iCloud) and then to add it back again.

  • Mail Version 2.1.3 port 110 incoming mail issue

I have 25 macs that all have the same issue, mail goes offline. I have checked with my ISP and my mail server companies and they say that the equipment and setting are fine. I took off the firewall from the network and hooked directly up to our T-1 line and we are still getting the same thing. I tried to remove the possible causes, but we are going through with outbound mail, internet and VOIP. It remains a mystery why the Incoming mail goes offline by itself. I changed the IP coming into our T-1, we have 5 available IP's, that worked for about 3mins. I used Terminal to telnet out to our mail server and this is the message I get:
*Last login: Wed Jul 29 12:32:08 on console*

Does anyone have any ideas why my machines would be doing this since Friday July 24?????

    Hi nancyjane,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

Can not receive mail. Mail always askers for my password. Can not change anything in my account as the incoming mail server is grated out. Any advise is appreciated.

Are you using OS X 10.5.7 or 10.7.5?  If you're using 10.7.5 (Lion), it's grayed out because it's automatically configured.  If you aren't getting mail, try going to Settings>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.

  • Mail will no longer search "Entire Message". That option is grayed out. Why?

How do I get Mail to search "Entire Message". That option suddenly is grayed out.

A SMTP is a server for sending messages, and not as an Incoming server.  Do you mean an IMAP server?
I did not mean it was for a single message, but the fact that you had a single message in local storage turned the option on, but it could only have search the messages that were in local storage.
Check again in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced what is selected regarding Keep copies of Messages?

  • In Mac Mail 7.1 How do you stop incoming mail from showing all related mail. The link at the top doesn't do the trick.

When I receive an email every single mail that has the same subject shows up in the inbox as a separate email. It is very confusing when you see a bunch of emails and have to try to figure out the actual order. The point is that I simply do not want to see all the other emails in the same window. All I want to do is read the current email. And if that particular email has any previous emails in the email thats OK but what is happening is you see the related email twice. This was not occurring in the previous version. The botton on the top that says Hide Related Emails does not work continuously. I am using Maverick.

  • Mail and Google Business Apps - can get incoming mail but not send

I'm using the mac mail client for 3 different accounts - one regular gmail account, and 2 Google Business App addresses that are like [email protected]
2 of these accounts are working and have always worked fine: the regular gmail, and one of the business app accounts
But my newest one can recieve mail, but cannot send mail OUT. I've looked at my settings and compared them to Google's over and over, and compared them to the other business account that works. They are all set up correctly. ALL of the settings are set up the way they  should be.
Has anyone else had this problem?

  • Sign in to download from the App Store screen has the wrong Apple ID- grayed out. How can I change it?

When I have a software update notification and I go to the 'Updates" tab of the App Store and click 'update',  the flash screen 'Sign in to download from the App Store comes up the the Apple ID is wrong and grayed out so I can't change it.  Where is the bogus Apple ID stored? How can I 'ungray' it to make it editable?
I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on an IMAC 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
              File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
              Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
              Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
              Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • Disable button intermittently has blank image, instead of grayed out

Every so often, we get a blank box the size of the gif image we use in a button when the button is disabled. If the button is then enabled, the gif image draws correctly, but then if it is disabled again, it goes back to a grayed out box instead of just a grayed out picture of an arrow in this case.
The gif is a transparent gif and it seems that java when it disables it, just sets the whole image blank instead of just the non-transparent part. Anyone ever see something like this before?

When trying to update my Mail Account Mailbox Behaviours settings, after making the changes when I try to close the settings pane the following messages occur: Invalid Incoming Mail Server The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty. The incoming mail server box has in light grey colour: p02-imap.mail.me.com in it and I cannot edit its content. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hi all,
Mattreichenbach is probably on the right track here with a reset of settings.  I think I've determined the issue has to do with cached account information and inconsistencies for the account name.  This seems to crop up when I've changed my password and it hasn't propagated fully to all the servers, devices, certificates, etc.
Hopefully many here are on their way to restoration of service by now but it's clear that a lot of people are having the same issues.  Very frustrating and definitely something Apple needs to resolve:  incoming mail server field grayed out, incorrect autopopulation of different fields, other unanticipated behaviors.  If you're still having issues, though, here's what worked for me...
First, head to the iCloud preferences pane in System Configuration and choose "Sign Out".  When I did this it prompted me with a number of "are you sure" type questions about retaining information on my local machine.  I chose to delete/remove the info each time simply because it should all be restored by the cloud and I didn't want to risk a massive duplication of my data... I will say, I'm back up and running with no issues so I suspect you can make the same delete/remove choices...  But use your own judgment.  I don't want you to lose any data (ie.. please use care as you do this because I cannot bear the thought of causing anyone to experience the pain of data loss).
Once you've signed out of iCloud, restart your system.  When you get back in, head to the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your System Preferences and add your account back by choosing the brushed aluminum "iCloud" button.  When it asks for your account name, use your @iCloud.com email address.  I am all but certain my issue had started because one of my devices (iPhone or whatever) had been set up with an email alias specified instead of my @iCloud.com address.
Apple, if you're reading through any of these issues (there are TONS of users having this same problem).  Take note, that your icloud service somewhat frequently is not responding and yet tells the user that the password is wrong and this prompts people to be changing their passwords unnecessarily.  This has happened to me on numerous occasions.  Also, I noticed that last week's outage corresponded to a VERY similar outage exactly one year ago to the day.  Sounds like planned maintenance to me and I think you could do a better job notifying folks so we're not wasting HUGE amounts of time troubleshooting a problem that we have no hope of fixing.
Hope that helps some of you!

  • In Yosemite, how do I change my incoming mail server?

In Yosemite, I can't change my incoming mail server.  I have to use one for my office network, and another when outside the network.  In the older OS I could easily change it (even though is would always rearrange the order of my email accounts).  Now the field for the incoming mail server is grayed out and can't be changed.
    Help!!

And now the solution after an online chat with the great Apple support staff.  In Mail Preferences, Accounts, Advanced tab, uncheck the "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" box.  Save the settings when closing the preferences box.  Then open preferences again and note the incoming mail server box can be changed.
...now if the software engineers can fix the annoying bug of the order of accounts being changed to "Apple Order" whenever changes are made, the Mail app will be much improved.
