Mail Opening Problems & Setting up GoogleMail - Help Please
I have just bought the new 24" iMac.
I have imported my old email, no problem.
When I open mail, the app opens but not the mail window, to do this I have to click 'New Viewer Window'. How do I get Mail to open as a window?
I am also trying to set up my googlemail account.
I have enabled IMAP in my googlemail and saved changes. I have chosen the Account Type IMAP, description 'GoogleMail', Incoming Mail Server: imap.googlemail.com, my googlemail email address, my googlemail password and clicked 'Continue'.
The mail windows just says 'checking connection to mail server imap.googlemail.com...' but that is as far as it will go.
Please will you help me to: when I click on 'Mail' the Mail window opens, and connect to googlemail?

All the folders are there but no bloomin emails...could you help with how I import these from my old iMac to this new one via file sharing please

Open Mac Mail.
From the menu bar click Mail > Preferencees then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab then click + to add the account. -
In Iphoto 11 all 7000 of my photos show the same thumbnail. I rebuilt the thumbnail using ctr alt and opening iPhoto. This worked and rebuilt the thumbnails correctly. Then when I reopened iPhoto the problem came back? Help please?

I don't know if this is a Firefox problem so I ask, When printing how come it always prints so small I nearly need a magnifying glass? Is this caused by something else I may have set incorrectly? help please, from a very satisfied Firefox user
This only happens when I'm in my browser. Ex. when I'm on a site and I decide I like what I see and want to print it text that is, my printer always prints tiny. When I'm in Microsoft Word for ex. I print it and it looks like what I expect. So I don't know if somehow my printer got set to print tiny when on the web. If you can help me I would be most appreciative. Thanks again for your response.

Adobe no longer supports the installation and use of Acrobat 6 as it is a very old version which is not compatible with Windows 7.
I would suggest you to please use the latest version of Acrobat i.e. 11.0.10 which is fully compatible with your OS with its enhanced features and functions.

Thanks for your answer. Apprciate it very much. Just prior to receiving your email, I got back online. However, as I had tried what you suggested (and a lot more as I am 'reasonably' competent), and had been so doing since yesterday afternoon, I do believe that what you suggested was correct - that it was my third rate ISP that was at fault.

2 problems:
1. Files aren't downloaded when I click download. It only downloads after I restart the firefox many times.
2. New windows aren't being opened.

I've encountered the first problem since way back, but it wasn't this severe, now the downloading is very limited as I have to restart firefox many many times.Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Some security software is also able to block new window.
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Hi i have purchased a lightning to sd card but i cannot get the photos to open can you help please.
How did the photos get onto the SD card that you are using ? Photos (and videos) on the card will only be recognised if the card has a DCIM directory off the root of it, and the photos are underneath that directory and their filenames are exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus their file extension (that should be how most digital cameras write photos to a card).

My iPhone 4 although fully charges has just switched itself off and won't turn back on again. I've tried taking the sim card out but nothing happens. I'm just coming to the end of a 2 year contract and never had any problems with it before. Help please.

Two things... one, my ipod will not connect to my computer. I haven't had this problem before. I can't even plug it in to restore the ipod to delete all files to start over.
Two, how do you put your ipod into disk mode? A tech said I may have a corrupted file? How do I fix it? HELP PLEASE!!! I don't want to have to buy a new ipod and I use this thing all the time.Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.

This is my second 1.83ghz 1 gb ram 80 gb hard drive Macbook. The first one mooed and had a buzzy display. This one has been perfect for three weeks. Have loved it. But today, my girlfriend shut it down, apparently properly, we took it out of it's case to use it and the fan was on FULL blast. Even though the computer was off! It then wouldn't turn on for ages. The macbook was very, very hot at this point.
Eventually it restarted when the fan went off ten minutes later. The battery level had gone from 80% to 28%. And then it said 'Mac OS X unexpetedly quit' and carried on as normal.... for the moment.
My girlfriend said 'it's done it once before' too.
Any heads up on this? Many thanks in advance.
PaddyIt definitly sounds like she instructed the computer to shut down, but did not wait for the Mac OS to actually shut off the computer befre closing the lid. Doing so suspends activity and puts the computer into sleep mode where it still uses power. If you put the computer in a bag, the heat will build up, and I would expect it do do as you described.
Ask your girlfriend if she waited for the screen to turn black or not. If she did wait for the screen to turn black, then you definitly have a problem that should be taken up with AppleCare, or Apple.

Could someone help me restore my photos? I was trying to "restore my database" in iPhoto when it shut down - now my thumbnails are distorted, logged under a new name, and when you click on a thumbnail it opens as another photo. I was following another "helpful hint" hold down the option and command key and restart iPhoto - select the top three and you should be able to get rid of the dreaded exclamation point. My MAC ran through the first two options dealing with thumbnails, but crashed during the "restore database" step and now I have a mess. Help, please. Thank you.

I want to back up my iphoto library to my external drive, but can't find it it in my computer's tree. When I click pictures in the tree, it launches iphoto and there is no file name or icon to drag. What am I missing? I'm sure it is simple what ever it is. Help please?
now that you have found your iPhoto library you can drag it to the external drive to backup it up

That's impossible. I think you mean to say that your HD capacity is 249.72 GB, and you've used 151.88 GB. You do have enough free space, so that means something else is going on to cause this problem.
Aside from setting up the Gmail account(s), did you install or update anything just prior to this problem starting? If so, what were those items?
I didn't mention any extension, so I'm assuming you're referring to seventy one's mention of TM (Time Machine). That is a built-in backup method that you can choose to take advantage of, but I would not do it, since it's not all it's cracked up to be. What you need is to setup and maintain every day a bootable backup of your entire hard drive. You can do that with SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. You don't need an Airport device for these, nor Time Machine; in fact, I would shy away from using wireless for such things, as it's often more of a problem than a benefit.
Also, there may be problems with your hard drive, so I would boot your Mac from the install disc, choose your language, then wait about 15 seconds for the menu bar at the top to appear and choose Utilities->Disk Utility and Repair Disk. If it comes back with any errors that can't be fixed, post them in your reply. But if not, then run Repair Permissions, and all you need to concern yourself with is the message at the end that 'Permission repair completed'; ignore anything else as long as you see that message.
Then reboot your system and restart Mail and setup your account(s) again (assuming it's not there because you deleted the IMAP mail folder and the Envelope Index file. In the future, don't throw things away unless you know the consequences of doing so; you'll end up being unfortunately surprised when you lose critical information.
