Mail (outgoing mail server) defaults to an old incorrect entry.

Where are the mail (outgoing mail server) settings stored?
FOLLOW THIS THREAD: mail 2.1; preferences; accounts; Account information; Outgoing mail Server (SMTP); open this window and go to edit server list; highlight and delete all entries; then go back to account information; and select; server settings. This will open into a new window where you may type in the Outgoing mail server.
The outgoing mail server then in use. defaults into a previously incorrect outgoing mail server.
Where are these outgoing mail server settings stored and how do I delete them?

Melvin,
There is a way to purge all Mail Preferences, and start over, but I am wondering if you have any messages stuck in the Outbox, and those may reference previously entered SMTP? Do you have any messages awaiting sending, or have you only tried with newly composed messages, after the change in SMTP entries?

  • Mail: "outgoing mail server (smtp)" not being saved

In Mail settings I have a default "outgoing mail server (smtp)" selected, but when I go to send mail, it changes to 'gmail'
How can I get it to work the way it's supposed to.
It's worked correctly for ever, but exhibited this new behavior recently.

I think I have the same problem without Exchange involved. I have seven different email accounts and two of them are acting like you describe: changes like deleting doesn't reflect on other clients (like mobile phone email client and webmail).
This also happens with read emails showing up unread so that if the email is been read and deleted same message can appear as new and when that message is deleted I can see two separate items of that same email message.
Also all marks of reply, forward or flagged are gone when the email show up as new again.
My service provider said that updates to Mail.app have previously made some big changes to way how it acts with email servers and thought that Mail is misbehaving with my two email systems.
I am using IMAP protocol with all accounts.
Thanks for any info and help!

  • Godaddy mail, outgoing mail server

I accidentally deleted my e-mail accounts. I was able to add back in my roadrunner accounts but I am having problems setting up my e-mail address for godaddy. I have the outgoing mail sever set as: smtpout.secureserver.net:[email protected] but I get an error message saying that the server cannot be contacted on the default port. Select a difereing outgoing mail server. Any suggestsions?

Your way is the way the Apple store set up the account when I bought the domain. But in any event, I've given up using the Godaddy account for email purposes. I still wonder if what I was told is true - that you have to pay extra to be able to get mail because I thhink it's a shame to get a Godaddy account only to be able send mail, not receive mail. In any event, I set up an alias account under the mobile me account and plan to use this since I don't have to pay an extra fee. Please feel free to correct me if my impressions about having to pay extra to get mail is wrong. I tried to dig through Godaddy's web site and can't find anything about it.

  • Mail - outgoing mail won't send over 3g

Recently upgraded from the original iPhone (1st gen) to iPhone 4s.
I have always used Windstream email on my iPhone with no problems, both incoming and outgoing, both wifi and edge (on previous phone.)
With my new 4s, my outgoing mail works fine when I am in my home wifi, but it will not send when away from home and using 3g.
I have contacted Windstream (the ISP) and they only stated that as far as they can tell, my settings are correct, which are:
    Outgoing Mail Server
    Host name: smtp.windstream.net
    User name: [email protected]
    Password: (password)
    Use SSL: off
    Authentication: password
    Server Port: 587
    Thanks for any hints.

    Thank you for the suggestions.
Yes, I have my userid and password saved in the settings for smtp.windstream.net.
I added smtp.sprintpcs.com as a secondary SMTP server.  it is on and SSL is off.  I do not have a userid and password for the sprint smtp server.  I have tried both server ports 25 and 587.  Unfortunately, I am still getting the error when trying send mail over 3g.

  • Mail: Outgoing mail servers

How can I delete old and unneeded outgoing mail servers in mail: prefs/accounts/edit/outgoing mail servers?

This process is different and easier beginning with Panther Mail but check How to Remove Unused SMTP Servers for Jaguar Mail.

  • Mac mail outgoing mail not working with wildblue gmail account

My outgoing mail keeps saying offline. Cannot connect on the default ports. Tried changing ports, with and without SSL. Anybody have any solution?

I've recreated the account multiple times and finally have mail coming through under an "All Mail" label under "Gmail" on the left hand side of the application. The one thing I did do differently was uncheck the SSL box in advanced settings, save changes, recheck the SSL box, save changes. Mail started working after that.
Before this problem existed, I had [Gmail] in the "imap prefix" box in advanced settings in order to get rid of the gmail labels. I did this because I only wanted the Inbox and Sent Items to show in the far left. Right now, i'm only able to view my mail under an all mail folder beneath a Gmail Folder on the left had side. Can I get rid of all these folders and simply use my inbox and sent items icons?
    Thanks,
    Ryan
    Thanks in advance.

  • Anyone else having sudden Mail Outgoing Exchange Server problems?

I have a Microsoft Exchange account for work that I have been accessing on Mail for about 2 yrs w/o any problems until last weekend. Then, suddenly, I can't send emails from that account if I originate the email, but I can send it w/o difficulty if I'm replying to an email from that account!
Also, when I do open a new email on that acct, it opens as an iCloud mail, and I have to select my Exchange server in the dropdown. When I do this, it doesn't add in my Signature for that acct, although it does when I'm replying to an email.
I've made no changes to my account or server settings, nor has our Administrator. My Lion/Mail versions are UTD. When I check the Outgoing server info, I notice it keeps deleting it, and marking the server as Offline.
I can log in as a webmail (owa) acct, and can also log in on my PC--same PW, etc.
VERY strange--have been searching Discussions/Help/Knowledge Base since then and trying everything I can think of (with 22+ yrs Mac experience)--to no avail.
Any thoughts from the Mail Gurus out there?

Same thing. I'm in Mexico City right now and Mail stopped working two days into the trip. I reset all my email accounts in Mail and it still wouldn't work. I had to switch to Entourage to recieve and send emails (worked perfectly).  I prefer Mail but I've had this problem before with emails getting hung up. What's going on here?

  • Mail - Outgoing Mail - doesn't work consistently

Just upgraded to Leopard and thought I'd try out Mail. I currently use Thunderbird. I am finding that it will only send the mail from certain locations - I use wireless connection constantly from various locations. Thunderbird has no problem sending from anywhere. Why does Mail?
Does anyone have a quick fix to this? Obviously I can't switch until I resolve this.
Also... I've tried to set the font color to Blue in the compose prefs but it won't allow me to change it there. Only in the message itself. Any ideas? The Font thingy will open a color picker but won't change the color setting.
Lastly... is there a way to add a logo to the head of ALL emails? Kind of like stationary, but a custom stationary?
    Thanks folks!!!

You say you have the pse 5 disk?
I guess you do't have a dvd drive on your new windows 8 computer?
Do you have access to another computer with a dvd drive?
Anyway if you can find another computer with a dvd drive you could copy the pse 5 install disc to removable device like a camera card or flash drive.
You can also buy cheap usb dvd drives.

  • My outgoing mail server auto defaults to port 465 but auto detect settings box is not checked

    Hi Guys,
    Hope someone can help.
I am having problems sending emails as my provider does not support port 465 as an outgoing mail server port, only 587 and 25.  Despite not having 'auto detect settings' box checked in mac mail my port defaults to 465 whatever I put in there.
I am running 10.10.1 and the latest version of mac mail.
    Hope someone can help.
    Cheers

    Hello,
I figured out my problem. I had somehow changed the "user name" in the outgoing server. (edit server list > Advanced tab > user name). When I corrected the user name, so that it exactly matches the user name for the "Incoming mail server" the outgoing server is back online!
Of course, I still have the problem of having to enter my keyword password repeatedly, but that is in a different thread . . .

  • Mail 4.2 outgoing server defaults to none

My mail is setup to connect to Microsoft Exchange 2007 webmail and has been working fine. but over the last few days my send button is grayed out because the outgoing server will default to none. I change it back to webmail but after a few hours it will change back to none.

Having similar problems w/ Mail 4.3 Suddenly quit sending mail. Receives OK. Shows outgoing mail server as offline. Tried deleting and new setup, but same results. ISP says it sounds like software problem, and maybe Mail needs to be re-installed. Apple says it sounds like the ISP has changed some settings.

The default sending account for a new message and the outgoing mail server used with an account are different things.
Tiger Mail includes a default account selection for send new mail from.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Composing and under Addressing, you can select a default account for "Send new mail from".

I want to change that setting in the dialog box but it does not havr any other choices for me.
