Mail outgoing servers "offline"

I have recently migrated to a macbook pro and have had no issues with mail for two weeks, until today.  I have a new problem today with mail outgoing servers being "offline" without a way to turn them online.  I did a software update yesterday and I may have gotten an OSX upgrade but did not notice.  Does anyone know if there is an issue with 10.6.8?  Does anyone have any solution/experience with this mail problem I cite?

Okay, fixed it on mine.  In Mail.app:
1) Mail menu | Preferences.
2) Select problematic account in list on left.
3) Select "Edit SMTP Server List..." from Outgoing Mail Server drop-down.
4) Fix username by appending domain name
(append "@gmail.com" if standard account, or your own domain if apps user).
5) Re-enter password.
Save your preferences.

Mac Mail outgoing servers are all offline.  How do I return them to online?

The outgoing servers are from your local ISP, follow the link in teh message for troubleshooting. It's possible your ISP is experiencing problems or it is also possible you may need to restart your computer.

  • Mail outgoing servers say they are disconnected - after an update was installed

When I updated to Mavericks I had this problem with Gmail and a Yahoo account.  I can receive e-mail, but not send. It tells me the outgoing servers are disconnected.  Now the problem is back after an update.  I tried the 995 and 465 ports - does not work.

  • Apple Mail problem of taking my outgoing servers offline for no apparent reason.

Hi folks,i have my Macbook pro split into 2 users {both me},one half i use for my photography and the other for everything else,my problem is that i have my Gmail back to front,it's on my photography half so i have to log into that half when i want to check emails,i do have a version of Gmail on the other half also but it's not the original with my old emails in it.So i'd like to know how to get the original gmail into my non photography side, god i hope this makes sense :)...I have tried to copy all the same info on the accounts settings page but one half won't hold the password, many thanks.Oh and the gmail people sent me here for assistance, cheers.

I just experienced this today. It involved all of the clips in a multiclip sequence. I edited the project, worked on some other projects, and suddenly it said it couldn't locate the captured files.
All of the clips were captured using Capture Now.
One clip WASN'T lost...the only clip not included in the multiclip sequence.
The files did not show up in Finder anymore. I knew exactly where they were located and also tried Spotlight. They simply vanished abruptly.
Very strange and frustrating...and a big waste of time.

  • Mail--outgoing server offline

Recently one of my outgoing mail servers is listed as "offline."  No matter what I try I have not been able to use it to send e-mail.  I've tried to delete and reinstall the mailbox, but that did not work.
Is this a Mountain Lion issue?  Is there a fix.
By the way--the SMTP server for my gmail account does stay online.

I'm having same issue.  Works on my old Mountain lion machine...same settings and Ipad

  • Mac mail with website mail outgoing servers

I have set up mac mail with my website email. This is hosted by 123-reg.co.uk. I have set up all the account on mac mail, and have sent an email TO the website mail address from another of my emails, which works fine. However when I try to send outgoing mail it does not connect tot the outgoing mail server.
I have contacted 123-reg who have gone through all the settings with me and have confirmed that it is set up for normal mac mail settings. They suggested then that it something to do with mac mail blocking the port. Could you tell me how to sort this.

Port 110 is strictly for incoming servers using POP3 -- has nothing to do with the SMTP. For that, click on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP, and choose Edit Server List. The report of Connection Doctor means you should be on Port 25, most likely, and Authentication should be set to None.
Try choosing Use Custom Port in the Advanced tab of the window for the SMTP settings, and enter Port 25, but nothing for Authentication or Password. You were probably selected to Use Default Ports, and there was a hitch with Port 25, and Mail tried to use another port -- maybe.

  • All of my Outgoing Servers are Offline in Apple Mail

I'm using a Macbook Pro running 10.8.4. I've been using Apple Mail with four separate GMAIL accounts and haven't really had any issues until today. Suddenly, all four outgoing servers (SMTP) are offline. The incoming servers are fine. When I run the mail connection doctor, all the SMTP accounts say:
"Could not connect to the SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct inforation in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselct the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advance tab of Account preferences."
Thinking this was a strange message (since nothing has changed on my accounts since yesterday), I attemped unchecking the SSL checkbox to no avail. I also went through and re-entered my gmail settings. Also, the fact that ALL FOUR of my accounts are offline is rather suspicious. I've done a bit of googling, and tried changing the default ports with no success there as well. Anybody have any suggestions?

Do not worry i have exact the same when saying offline and have no idea why this was on yesterday but today this gone by itself now so im sure u be ok next day or so.....gudluck

  • Mail has stopped sending all mail.  Insist that outgoing servers are offline.  Have checked all setting preferences for outgoing servers including user name and password.

Mail has stopped sending all email.  Says all outgoing servers are offline and server certificate are invalid.  Have gone into preferences/accounts/edit SMTP servers and reentered all data including user name and password.
Have had  this happen before and had to upgrade to Maverick to cure it.

So? What's your problem? BTW, you show SL as the OS, but mention installing Mavs. Very confusing.

  • Why has mail suddenly started saying that my outgoing mail server is offline?

Why has mail suddenly started saying that my outgoing mail server is offline?
I can receive mail from my ISP using Apple Mail but as of this morning I can't send via my ISP.
When I check Mail preferences, they say that my ISP's outgoing mail server is "offline".
I haven't changed any settings, so  what's gone wrong? I need a fix. At the moment I'm having to use Gmail.

If your email is hosted by Google then there are several known issues with Apple Mail under Mavericks accessing Gmail.  Using a web browser is a good backup.  In Apple Mail you can goto the menubar, choose Mailbox and choose take all accounts offline.  Then bring them back online.  Worst case you may need to delete and readd the account (usually if something was setup wrong) Menu bar - Mail > Accounts.
If you have turned on 2 step Google Authentication then you'll need to issue a specific email password for Apple Mail to use to bypass authentication.  Google the steps.
Best of luck in getting your mail server online.  Hopefully you can specify multiple servers in settings.

  • Mail outgoing says I'm offline

I recently installed the new OS mountain lion.  After doing so my outgoing mail says im offline and wont let me send.  I have tried re installing the mail server and it still doesnt work. I recieve mail but I cant send.  All works well from my Iphone so I know there is nothing wrong with the passwords or servers.  Please help me

To anyone else who is having this problem more recently-- just got off 1/2 hour call with Verizon tech. They are apparently changing all their settings from, for instance, "incoming.verizon.net" to "pop.verizon.net", requiring SSL, password on outgoing, etc. Settings that worked for years on my Mac no longer worked. The new settings are on Verizon's site, but not easy to find. Here is the link: https://www22.verizon.com/ForYourHome/VZRepair/vziha/Service.aspx?ihaweb=EmailAc countsAndSettings

  • HT1277 i have all the correct settings for my e mail but i can't send for some reason it keeps taking my outgoing server offline

i have all the correct settings for my e mail but i can't send for some reason it keeps taking my outgoing server offline can anyone help

If you can receive mail and your connection to your ISP is otherwise working, but cannot send mail, then your SMTP settings are incorrect; the SMTP server port is wrong, your SSL setting is wrong, or the username or password credentials don't match what the ISP has, or your attempted accesses are being blocked or your ISP SMTP server is offline.
And in general, don't use port 25 for your outbound mail, unless your ISP specifically requires that; these days, that port is best left to communications between mail servers and (usually) not used by any mail clients.

  • Outgoing smtp servers offline?

I installed Yosemite on Friday; since then I cannot send emails but can receive them; when  I press 'send' I get a drop down menu tab which says outgoing servers (smtp) are offline and there's nothing i can do using the 'edit servers' option
i have checked settings, re-input settings, deleted account and set it up again all to no avail. I am pretty sure it is an apple/Yosemite issue as I can still receive and send emails on iPad, two android 'phones and windows laptop all with same settings. It happened once before with mavericks install but techies at my previous broadband provider sorted it that time.
Has anyone else had the same/ similar issue?
On separate point i should have waited as really don't like Yosemite so far; should have thought a little more carefully after last year and my experience of using IOS 7 after installing it on iPad 2.

This one worked for me on all my Apple devices, absolutely works :-)
    Quit mail
    Open up Finder
In the Finder menu bar select Go > Go to folder
type in ~/Library and click Go (on my kb the "~" is next to the left shift key)
    Open the folder Mail
    Open the folder V2
    Open the folder MailData
Double click to open Accounts.plist (should open in TextEdit)
Find the block of data that contains the offending mail account
Find the line within this block that says <key>UserAllowsInsecureAuthentication</key>
Change the line below this from <false/> to <true/>
    Quit TextEdit
    Restart mail
