Mail password issues

Before, in Lion and previous version of OSX, I could leave my password "blank" in my email accounts under Mail preferences so that when I sign in I have to type in my password for my email account.  I do this for security purposes as other people use my computer.  Now, with Mountain Lion, the password sticks every time I put it in.  I even tried typing in a wrong password so when Mail opens it asks me for the correct password, but the correct password sticks.  Any suggestions for this issue?

One thing you can do to make sure other people can't sign into your email account is to change the security settings on your login keychain. Open up Keychain Access and right click on the login keychain. From there you can (carefully) set the keychain to lock after a certain number of minutes of inactivity. Once you do this, Mail should refuse to log into your email account until the keychain is unlocked. Keep in mind that will affect other programs that use passwords as well. There are some other settings in the keys themselves that you can change.

  • Mail Password Issue

My Mail account works just fine on the MacBook with a registered password, but the same password on the iPhone's Mail app keeps alerting me that my mail account doesn't have a password. I open the Mail/Contacts/Calendar from the Settings menu and enter the correct password, which gets verified by Apple's server, but when I try to use my email account, the same alert comes up claiming that there is no password for the mail account.
    What to do?

I tried doing that and there is still an issue. It said that nothing was wrong when I ran the first aid. But I just tried to send an email this morning after running it last night and it said "offline" again.

  • Mail Password Issue (server rejecting the password)

Every time i try to get my email i get a message back that says "The MobileMe IMAP server 'mail.me.com' rejected the password for user dswich".  Is there a way to reset (or retrieve) my password so that i can get back into my email?  Because clearly i don't have the right password......

I have the same issue.  Just replaced a hard drive and restored everything.  Only thing that did not come with it were the mail info.  No big deal, I thought.  But when I tried to put in all the password information, it would not accept it.  It is the only thing left to do.  Email boxes-everything imported back in from my backup hard drive.  Just a little frustrated right now.
Ok.  Just changed my password according to iCloud requirements.  Still no joy.  I get email on my iPad and my iPhone, but I cannot seem to get the mail sent to my computer with the new hard drive.  So, I am with you.  Is there a way to verify the email settings?

  • IPhone and iMac "Mail" password issues

So, as of 3 days ago whenever I use Apple "mail" program on my iMac or iPhone, I get an error message stating that "Mail can not connect with yahoo, please enter your yahoo password." I enter the password, and it accepts it as a valid password EVERY time, and I go on and check my mail as usual without issues.
However, if I come back online later that day on my iPhone or iMac, I have to go through this same crap again.
I have had this same yahoo e-mail account for over a year, along with the same password. For over a year, I have NEVER had 1 single issue with my apple mail/yahoo password. Yet, as of 3 days ago I have to enter it every 15mnts.
    Any ideas????
    Stumped.

I've had no trouble with my 'yahoo' mail on my iPhone 4 until a couple of weeks ago. Messages like cannot connect to server, wrong password etc. Searched through a number of forums and tried a number of suggestions like deleting the account and re entering it. All no good for me. THEN, I went to my account via the browser on my phone and changed my password. Then put the new password into my phone (and lap top too). Hey Presto! All good.
To reset password go to 'Settings' - scroll down to 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars', open, then 'open' the account that is giving you problems (if you have more than one) at the top of the screen it says 'account' tap to open it and delete the old password and put in the new one.  That should fix it !! I imagine it would be the same kind of solution to gMail and any other mail programs.

  • Cannot get mail password issue?

Error message comes up when i click on mail.
"No password provided for user "me" on server _.
Please go to Mail Account Settings and enter a password"
I use Outlook. There is a password on my account settings page. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

sounds like your email account didn't sync / setup correctly on your iphone... i would go into settings, mail and manually setup your email account

  • Mail passwords are not saved to the Keychain

This problem seems to relate to the long standing Mail Password issue that has been frustrating many Tiger (and Panther) users.
Firstly: Mail keeps asking for account passwords in an unpredictable way. Even if I "save these to the keychain" via 'allways allow', I still get the prompts for mail account passwords after waking from sleep or later in the day.
Secondly: Keychain hasn't stored the passwords at all anyway.
Thirdly: 'Mail Preferences' doesn't store my account passwords. I re-enter them and they don't show up in the password box.
This has cropped up since the latest set of security updates in Tiger.
    I have done the following.
    Repaired disc permissions.
    Run Keychain First Aid.
Re-entered the passwords into Mail Preferences on numerous occasions.
Run Cocktail utilities to clear caches/rotate logs/ just about everything.
My Mail is set to send/retrieve every minute. I have re-set this to every 5 minutes, but all of the above problems still apply.
I am on ADSL broadband via a NetGear router, wirelessly through Airport.
I think I am correct in assuming this may be a bug in the way Mail handles server traffic but whatever it is, it needs help!

ok guys, I found out how to fix this.
    First way (harder way):
    1. Open the keychain access application that rests inside your utilities folder.
    2. Push the "Show Keychains" button on the lower left, if your keychains are not visible
    3. In the menu item "file" pick "New Keychain"
    4. Name the new keychain and pick a password
    5. Mark your new keychain and pick "Make Keychain "your keychain" Default"
    6. Pick "Change Settings" from the "Edit" menu and uncheck everything.
    Voilá!
    Alternative and much simpler way:
I found out that my old keychain simply was not recognized because the extension was removed. So, if you still have your old keychain file saved in the appropriate folder (your user folder(home)->library->keychains), simply add ".keychain" to the name. Open Keychain access to check if it was recognized or not.
    Worked for me.
    Good luck!

  • Issues with changing Apple Mail password!?!

I just tried changing my Apple Mail password in the Mail Preferances window, within the incoming mail server "password" field.  I saved my changes, and now every 2-5 minutes I get an error message telling me to enter my mail password in the pop-up field.  I do so, and then I get the error message again 2-5 minutes later!!  What's going on here??
I'm also not receieving incoming mail now...
Please let me know if you have a solution!

    sounds like a keychain issue.
    Try this:
go to Utilities > Keychain Access and delete all entries relating to that mail account.
in the keychain Access Menu, do Keychain First Aid. Enter your passord, pick repair, and click start.
Go back to Mail and delete that account (don't just inactivate it, delete it).
I don't know if a restart is necessary at this point, but it wouldn't hurt.
go back to mail and recreate the account

  • How do I get badges to stop appearing asking to re-enter my mail passwords?

I keep receiving badges asking for me to re-enter my mail passwords. I have went in to the mail settings and re-entered the passwords which are verified, but I am still getting badges to re-enter the password.

The solution (for me at least) is to keep trying the same password  that I know is correct.  For me, the fourth try of typing in the exact same password works in iTunes on my iMac.  I have repeated this several times, and each time it works.
I also reset my password, but the same problem occurs in iTunes.  I have to type in my password four times in iTunes to get it to work.
iTunes is having issues.  I can log in easily on the first attempt every time to post on this message board and I can sign in easily on my iPad 2 to get app updates, but in iTunes on my iMac it takes four attempts and then it works.
Apple needs to release a statement to the public telling people abut this.  For Apple to know that this iTunes problem exists and that it is causing literally thousands of people to be stressed out is callous and uncaring.

  • ISP server not recognizing mail password

This has been going on for a couple of weeks. I get a warning that my ISP server isn't recognizing my mail password. The password hasn't changed, so I re-enter the password, check the box about remembering password in keychains. This may happen several times in one day & then it goes away for a few days ,but starts up again. It has started up again this morning x3 & I 'm at a loss as to what to do to fix it since I've only been on the Mac since last October. Thanks for any suggestions!

    Hi Debbie,
Ernie's almost certainly right about this being an ISP-side issue. For what it's worth, I occasionally get a similar message from Entourage about 'password not recognized, do I want to try to enter it again' during the periodic (5 minutes) check of the mail server on my work Mac. If the network goes out briefly or the servers bog down (both of which our IT department swears never, ever, well hardly ever happens), the business of sending the account password to the ISP's server and getting back an acknowledgement break down. Like you, I've found that when this starts happening, I just keep trying to reconnect until it works again, after which it will typically run OK for several weeks (until the next network upgrade).

  • Unable to verify e-mail password... again!

I receive an e-mail every once & a while saying that I must verify my e-mail password in order to continue sending/receiving messages on my phone. This would be fine if I was able to do so through my phone, but I am not. When I go to the set-up page to enter my password and try to click on the e-mail accounts button, nothing opens (it never has). Is there a way to fix this so it will open? Or a way to verify my password for now until I can get it fixed? It's really annoying not being able to do so myself.
    Thank you.

Ok, in that case, can you go to Options > Device > Advanced System Settings (or just Options > Advanced Options, depending on your OS) > Host Routing Table, press the BB Menu button and select Register Now.
Does that now give you access? If not, try going to the following link on your BlackBerry Browser: http://blackberry.com/integrate.
If that still doesn't work, you'll want to contact your carrier, Bell, for further assistance as they may be able to check things on their end. Barring everything else, you may need to reload the software on your device. If that's the case, let me know and I'll give you the instructions on how to do that.
Good luck and keep me posted.

  • Is the email password issue related to my canceled trial .mac account?

    Guys,
I thought this might be something. My trial .mac account expired and I have been getting password issues ever since. I thought having a mac email account was indefinite, however after speaking with CS, they said an expired .mac account and password issues were correlated.
So, for those with ongoing password issues, am I assuming these people who are having password issues have an *active* .mac account? Apologies for the newb/green question.
P.S. I am able to retrieve gmail on my account.
    Message was edited by: jkim2001

If you've got your .Mac account set up in Mail and the account has expired, that'd be why you're getting password prompts. .Mac email accounts expire with the account--they're not free. Remove the .Mac account from Mail (or pay for it) and the problem should go away.

  • Vanishing e mail password

My e mail password vanishes after a few hours and has to be re-entered.  Has anyone any ideas how to solve this problem?

What do you mean it vanishes? It always disappears from the setup screen after it's setup. Is the device asking for it again after a few hours or are you just noticing it's gone?

  • E-Mail Password Error

Last evening, I received a msg on the BB that I needed to update my password for my e-mail account.  This is unusual as my e-mail password has not changed.  The same thing happened last week also.  Last week, I just re-entered the password in E-Mail Setup, and all was fine.  However, last night I was not able to update the password.  I keep getting an error that it is unable to be verified.  I have tried from both the handset and the T-Mobile web site on my laptop.  I have tried from both places again today with no luck.
A colleague also has a BB, but thru AT&T and he is experiencing the exact some problem, with the exact same times (he had it unexpectedly ask him to update the password last week also).  The message appeared last night at 6:09pm Mountain for both of us.
    Any ideas?

Hello, I seem to be having the same issue, however i could not remember my user name so i contacted my provider and the username that they gave me does not work. I have never changed my user name. Any suggestions?

Until April 2012 there were enough threads on password rejection to knit a large sweater but then the moderator closed the forum saying all was well.  It isn't.  I have been unable to access my bt mail since March except by logging on to webmail after which macmail behaves correctly for about 1 hour.  Wasted £30 on a premium BT help service on this matter. Very nice guy but perplexed!  This issue is not dead. I had the same issue with my iphone which was resolved in an Apple store. Is there now a fix for this utterly irritating situation? It does BT no credit whatsoever. Any chance of reclaiming my lost hours and £30? I think I know the answer to that one.
