Mail password prompt

My mail keeps prompting me for my password. When I give it, it still prompts. I have checked the preferences, everything is correct. I know my password is correct, I can access my mail using the web site with the same password. I also am able to receive it on my iPhone.
Any suggestions on my problem? Do I need to reload Mail?

Hi...
Might be a corrupted keychain ...
Open Keychain Access located in  /Applications/Utilities
Select Passwords on the left.
Type in your email address in the search field top right corner of the window.
Then right or control click that keychain the click Delete.
Now go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information
Select the mail account on the left.
Re type in the correct password. Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.

  • Apple Mail Password Prompt

    Hi.
I have 2 email accounts setup with mail, a mobile me account and a hotmail account.
While I have selected for mail to remember the passwords, the hotmail account is also asking to input the password, and if I dont reenter the password it takes the hotmail account offline.
Ive already tried removing the account and adding it again. Doesnt seem to matter. It asks for the password almost everytime it goes to check for new mail, as far as I can tell.
If I do enter the password, even though I click the box to remember it, it will ask again next time.
    Any suggestions?

Hi, I have that same annoyance and setup. When it pops up, just hit cancel, refusing to believe it forgot your password. Then, I just right click on hotmail inbox and choose "take hotmail online." Sometimes it gets stubborn, so I take it offline first, then back online. It works without entering the password at all. Apple and Microsoft just don't get along, in many ways. No matter how many times you redo it, it won't work, because it's not really forgetting the PW. Yahoo is even worse. That's why I simply use Gmail, and it ends the whole issue.

  • Mail passwords are not saved to the Keychain

This problem seems to relate to the long standing Mail Password issue that has been frustrating many Tiger (and Panther) users.
Firstly: Mail keeps asking for account passwords in an unpredictable way. Even if I "save these to the keychain" via 'allways allow', I still get the prompts for mail account passwords after waking from sleep or later in the day.
Secondly: Keychain hasn't stored the passwords at all anyway.
Thirdly: 'Mail Preferences' doesn't store my account passwords. I re-enter them and they don't show up in the password box.
This has cropped up since the latest set of security updates in Tiger.
    I have done the following.
    Repaired disc permissions.
    Run Keychain First Aid.
Re-entered the passwords into Mail Preferences on numerous occasions.
Run Cocktail utilities to clear caches/rotate logs/ just about everything.
My Mail is set to send/retrieve every minute. I have re-set this to every 5 minutes, but all of the above problems still apply.
I am on ADSL broadband via a NetGear router, wirelessly through Airport.
I think I am correct in assuming this may be a bug in the way Mail handles server traffic but whatever it is, it needs help!
    Nicholas Down

ok guys, I found out how to fix this.
    First way (harder way):
    1. Open the keychain access application that rests inside your utilities folder.
    2. Push the "Show Keychains" button on the lower left, if your keychains are not visible
    3. In the menu item "file" pick "New Keychain"
    4. Name the new keychain and pick a password
    5. Mark your new keychain and pick "Make Keychain "your keychain" Default"
    6. Pick "Change Settings" from the "Edit" menu and uncheck everything.
    Voilá!
    Alternative and much simpler way:
I found out that my old keychain simply was not recognized because the extension was removed. So, if you still have your old keychain file saved in the appropriate folder (your user folder(home)->library->keychains), simply add ".keychain" to the name. Open Keychain access to check if it was recognized or not.
    Worked for me.
    Good luck!

  • Networked user accounts, mail passwords not saving or notes?

    Hi there,
I have a mac mini set up as a server with latest software. On it i have 20 networked users which use between them for different mac mini's.
Problem which i have come across and i haven't found a solution yet. When i created them emails on there user accounts the incoming mail password won't save? On occasion i has saved, but once log out of the user and log back in the password has gone. which then it prompts me to keep typing the password in and won't save the password. This is very frustrating!!
I have also just noticed when i put message in notes and then log out and log in the the message has gone. This got me thinking it could be something with the user account not saving any data that put in? I don't really want to reformat the server if i don't have to.
If anyone has solution to this problem, it would really handy to know?

I click the Note button, nothing happens. The feature is completely out of service. I don't understand. Am I missing something obvious? I have tried the keystrokes too, no reaction at all, no errors, just can't use Notes, at all! rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Please help.
Update: I opened Console to see if I could find any errors immediate after trying to create a note and this is what I found:

  • Getting an odd CalDAV password prompt?  Mine was linked to Yahoo password change

Today I couldn't send mail via the iPad.  Instead of alterting me that the password was wrong, it told me that my current outgoing server was wrong.  It identified the current server as something like
                        apple.yahoo.smtp.    yada yada
and said I should change it or set up a new one.  Why in the world Apple was getting involved in a Yahoo outgoing mail server was beyond me.
Still, I went into setting, mail to check on the server account settings and then got another bizarre, unexpected prompt requesting a password for CalDAV!!  Not knowing what that was, I cancelled, but it was a bit unsettling!
After rummaging here, I discovered that the CalDAV message is related to calendar synching-- something I don't do, which added to the mystery.  For some reason, that message can occur when a mail password is missing or has been changed.
It then dawned on me that, in light of all the news about Yahoo, AOL, and GMail password hacking, I had changed the Yahoo mail password yesterday via the Yahoo web site.  That must have blanked out the password on the iPad.
Two strikes on Apple on this!  Suggesting that the server name itself was wrong and then asking for CalDAV password is not user-friendly.  Poor programming design, especially as many of us do NO calendar synching.  It should simply tell the user that the password is wrong, needs changing, and then prompt for the missing password.  (Or, do the usual-- name or password is incorrect.)
So, as Drkreis pointed out in another thread, the easy solution is to go under settings, Mail, to the account in question.  It will show Password with the word "Required" in grey.  Simply type in the new password there and  you'll be all set!
Yes, before anyone dumps on me...   it is absolutely true this was all created by user-error!  When you change your password for an account, you need to remember to change it on every device that is accessing that account.  Still, given that we're all human, and such errors are made all the time, Apple really needs to do better in explaining what's gone wrong and providing a single, layman prompt for a fix!

Thank you for the suggestion. I did change the password; however, I generally will purchase gift cards to link to the account so that if something like this ever happened it would not be taken out of a credit card or bank account.

  • Macbook keeps forgetting mail password on restart

Why does my macbook pro lose mail password, go to default wallpaper, load calendar when I restart or turn on my computer? How can I fix this?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset the password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Missing character for password prompt

    Hello,
I cannot seem to find the ` character during a Password prompt.
This character is on the top left key, just below Esc.
I think this character is U+02CB, "Modifier Letter Grave Accent"
For context, I just changed the password of my domain account password on my PC and I included that character. Then I went to my iPhone to update the password of my Exchange account there, only to discover that character is not available at the normal iPhone keyboard.
A curious note is that the character is available on the iPhone keyboard that appears on the To:line when typing a new mail message, so the character is available on the firmware.
    Thanks

  • Mail password suddenly stops working

For the last week. when I try to get new emails in Mac Mail I have been prompted for the server password but only after about 8pm.  I try the password but it is rejected.  Next morning things are fine, back to normal, no password prompt until after about 8pm.
Now this is happening all the time and I can't get my emails.
I have reset the password for my email account and been through the issue with my ISP
I have checked all the settings, addresses, passwords and other information but I can't resolve this issue.
    I am running Lion 10.7.2
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

    Hi Ralph,
    Thanks for replying.
Mail has just started to work normaly so I'm smiling just now.
During the time I have the issue everything else appears normal, the network is fine and the internet works.  I haven't checked the activity monitor but I will do next time I get the problem.

  • Mac Mail password/ SMTP/ POP server issues

I have been using Mac Mail on my MacBook for many years.  I have Yahoo Mail Plus POP mail. In the past several months I have had tons of problems, and keep resetting the password, POP & SMTP settings.  This time, I can't even get past the password prompt popping up.  It says I have the wrong password, but that is not the case.  I have even removed the email account entirely from MacMail, and tried to set it back up from the beginning, but no luck.
I'm about to throw this thing out the window!  Can anyone help??
    Thanks-
    JJ

The correct way is to use the exact settings provided by your ISP when you set up your account with them.
You can make a pretty good approximation by using this Apple web page. [Apple does not capture, store, use, or divulge the information entered in that form. It is simply a service for YOU.]

  • Constant Password Prompting in Outlook

    Hello,
I use outlook for my work email with a POP3 account through hosting.com. When I have my iPhone set to check my work account as well, and I have outlook open- I frequently (every few minutes) get an "Enter Network Password" prompt on outlook. Is there anyway to fix this? It's really annoying. I have resulted to forwarding my work email to a Yahoo! account that my iPhone is attached to- though this is a pain as I don't want to reply to my clients from a Yahoo! domain- I need to reply to them from my company's domain.
    suggestions?
    John

I have set Outlook to only check for email once every 15 minutes. Before it was set to check every 3. My iPhone is now also set to check once every 15 minutes. The problem no longer arises. I think it might be that the mail server was getting to many log-in queries. regardless, changing this option has eliminated the problem (at least for the last 3 hours).
    cheers!

  • Exchange 2013 - External Windows XP/Outlook 2007 Password Prompt

I have an Exchange 2013 server and everything is working correctly internal with XP clients that are connected to the domain.  My problem is that the Windows XP computers that are connecting from outside of the office that aren't connected to the domain
and have local usernames and passwords keep getting the password prompts.  I put in the correct domain\username and password and it connects.  The if I close and reopen it asks me for the password, I have saved the credentials but it still asks.
I have look and applied these settings from these articles but I'm still having the issue.  All of the internal and external names match my GoDaddy SSL certificate (mail.domain.com). Get-OutlookAnywhere shows:

  • Outlook password prompt for mailboxes on Exchange 2013 CU1

I migrated a few users from our Exchange 2007 SP3 Update 10 server to Exchange 2013 CU1. Now in Outlook they are getting a password prompt, and it won't accept their password. Our public folders are still on Exchange 2007 if that makes a difference.
    I tried running
         Test-OutlookConnectivity -GetDefaultsFromAutoDiscover:$true
but it says it doesn't recognize the parameter -GetDefaultsFromAutoDiscover:$true
    Here's the values for Get-OutlookAnywhere:
    ExternalHostname                   : legacy.domain.com
    InternalHostname                   :
    ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Ntlm
    InternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Ntlm
    IISAuthenticationMethods           : {Ntlm}
    ExternalHostname                   : mail.domain.com
    InternalHostname                   : clippers.domain.local
    ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Negotiate
    InternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Negotiate
    IISAuthenticationMethods           : {Negotiate}

    Hi GraffitiK

  • Why did OS just ask for my iMessage, FaceTime and mail password?

Why did OS just ask for my iMessage, FaceTime and mail password?

    Hi,
I signed up for a Developer account with my Apple ID at one stage.
Although I don't use it I do get prompted to Change my Password frequently, but somewhat randomly since.
At first I wondered if it was a change within the Apple set up overall but I have not heard other people mention it.
Since then I must admit to not checking posts on this topic though.
Whether the request to change the password is triggered by some other even at the server I don't know.
For instance these communities/forums are shared/duplicated across four or five servers.  There can be issues is they go out of sync and things like the roll out of the new layout can be server by server with them being Off line in rotation - which it turn can stress the  load on the first to handle the change.
On Change over day the process was supposed to start at about 12.00 Noon my local time.
In the evening I could not sign  in during the 3 hours I am normally at my computer.
However I could see both the iPhone Community and the Mavericks communities both had large numbers of spam "meet women in..." and offers for "help" with a name that sounded like it could be an Indian Guru.
It looked like these were being edited out at the time.
However the Status page told me nothing about the downtime. And it did appear some people were Logged in and posting judging by the time codes.
Whilst I believe an event happens that triggers a request for a new password for me I do not specifically know that this is what triggers others to have to log in again.
To put it another way though.
You might have one password to the account that you use for FaceTime, Messages, iTunes, iCloud Logging in to post here and so forth.
Whilst the Messages, FaceTime, iTunes and iCloud servers are all separate that password has to be verified.
If there is a power outage at that server then everyone has to log in again.

  • [SOLVED] Password prompt appears twice at boot up login

I boot up to the regular text login and startx manually. I recently updated after perhaps 4-5 days days and updated my /etc/*.conf.pacnew files as well.
After rebooting, I was presented with the text login, entered my username and password, and after pressing enter was presented with the same password prompt again. I re-entered my password and was presented with the prompt as usual. Any suggestions on what files might have led to this? I merged /etc/pam.d/login with /etc.pam.d/login.pacnew (which had many fewer lines). Could there be a line in there that's causing this? I'm not familiar with what controls the text login at boot.

Here is part of my auth.log . First I logged as a root on tty3 and then logged off and logged again as a regular user. Login session was started twice in both cases. The very end is unclear to me, some messages from gnome-shell. Not sure if they are related at all.

How do you stop the voice mail password pop up on the i phone 5?

Call your carrier & have them reset your voicemail. Then set such up with a password. Voicemail is a carrier feature, not a phone feature & most carriers require a password for such.
