Mail password

Can anyone tell me why I have to reset my mail password everyday? Sometimes its works if I open .mac on the internet but then won't work on my computer or for Apple ID. Getting really frustrated bc then it messes up my treo. thx

i had the same problem after the leopard upgrade. i recently discovered that the mail program was set to open using rosetta. i unchecked that and it didn't and hasn't asked for my passwords since. the above is assuming that you have gone through the process of entering your passwords into your keychain and left them there since i have read many people suggesting deleting and reentering manually into the keychain. anyhow, for those who don't know how to change the rosetta setting here it goes. close out of the mail program. open the application folder and highlight the mail program icon. use command+i to bring up the info window. under general info you will see a box followed by open using rosetta. uncheck the box. close the info window and launch the program. i haven't had to enter a passwords since.

How do you stop the voice mail password pop up on the i phone 5?

Call your carrier & have them reset your voicemail. Then set such up with a password. Voicemail is a carrier feature, not a phone feature & most carriers require a password for such.

  • TS3276 It would seem that my Mail password is not my Apple ID password.  I thought they would all be the same.  I have no idea what my Mail password is and want to change it but can't as I do not know how to reset the Mail password without having my old o

I keep getting asked for my Mail password when I want to send or receive mail in Mail.  I do not know what this password is as I thought it was my Apple ID password, but this fails.  I have changed that password so many times recently as I thought they were linked (why aren't they?).  How do I change my Mail password without having my old one?  Are there some security questions I can answer to do this?  Heeeeelp please.

Your iCloud password is your Apple ID and password. You must know it since you are posting here.
Have you transfered your MMe account to iCloud? If not, open iCloud in system preferences and sign in with your Apple ID and password.
If you have transfered it to iCloud, do this:
Go to the iCloud icon in System Preferences and open it. Sign out of iCloud.
Open Mail. If the iCloud or MMe account still exists in Mail's preferences under accounts, select the account and delete it. Then sign back into iCloud and choose Mail and any other applications in iCloud that you use. The Mail account should be put into Mail automatically.
Signing out of iCloud should remove the account from Mail and signing back in should put it back. There is no manuel account creation by you when using Apple Mail application.

  • Mail password doesn't work only with my Airport unit with MacBook, iPhone, iPad

Starting a couple of weeks ago, and every week for a few hours, my mail password will be rejected on my MacBook, iPad and iPhone when connected through my Airport Extreme. I'm not sure whether this is related to the firmware upgrade I did two weeks ago. It had never happened before.
The password is correct. When I connect from any of these devices through another network, it works fine. The problem only occurs with Mail, and only through my particular Airport Extreme (4th generation N) unit.
All other Internet access through this unit works fine.
The mail account is an IMAP account through Intermedia. An Exchange account with Intermedia (a separate mailbox) works fine on both my computer using Microsoft Outlook and iPhone Mail.
The last time this happened, the problem randomly fixed itself within a few hours. Now it's happening again.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

Fixed itself again two hours later. Intermedia is not reporting any problems and since the other mail account (on the same server) works fine, I don't think it relates to them.

My ISP tells me I need to change the port to send/receive mail, as the current port is going to be disabled for security reasons. But I can't remember my Mail password to add an account. How can I add an account when I don't remember my password? It's been several years.

your email password is with your ISP so they can help. but if it is saved in the email app you can just change the ports in the preferneces without a password.

  • Mail passwords are not saved to the Keychain

This problem seems to relate to the long standing Mail Password issue that has been frustrating many Tiger (and Panther) users.
Firstly: Mail keeps asking for account passwords in an unpredictable way. Even if I "save these to the keychain" via 'allways allow', I still get the prompts for mail account passwords after waking from sleep or later in the day.
Secondly: Keychain hasn't stored the passwords at all anyway.
Thirdly: 'Mail Preferences' doesn't store my account passwords. I re-enter them and they don't show up in the password box.
This has cropped up since the latest set of security updates in Tiger.
    I have done the following.
    Repaired disc permissions.
    Run Keychain First Aid.
Re-entered the passwords into Mail Preferences on numerous occasions.
Run Cocktail utilities to clear caches/rotate logs/ just about everything.
My Mail is set to send/retrieve every minute. I have re-set this to every 5 minutes, but all of the above problems still apply.
I am on ADSL broadband via a NetGear router, wirelessly through Airport.
I think I am correct in assuming this may be a bug in the way Mail handles server traffic but whatever it is, it needs help!

ok guys, I found out how to fix this.
    First way (harder way):
    1. Open the keychain access application that rests inside your utilities folder.
    2. Push the "Show Keychains" button on the lower left, if your keychains are not visible
    3. In the menu item "file" pick "New Keychain"
    4. Name the new keychain and pick a password
    5. Mark your new keychain and pick "Make Keychain "your keychain" Default"
    6. Pick "Change Settings" from the "Edit" menu and uncheck everything.
    Voilá!
    Alternative and much simpler way:
I found out that my old keychain simply was not recognized because the extension was removed. So, if you still have your old keychain file saved in the appropriate folder (your user folder(home)->library->keychains), simply add ".keychain" to the name. Open Keychain access to check if it was recognized or not.
    Worked for me.
    Good luck!

  • Networked user accounts, mail passwords not saving or notes?

    Hi there,
I have a mac mini set up as a server with latest software. On it i have 20 networked users which use between them for different mac mini's.
Problem which i have come across and i haven't found a solution yet. When i created them emails on there user accounts the incoming mail password won't save? On occasion i has saved, but once log out of the user and log back in the password has gone. which then it prompts me to keep typing the password in and won't save the password. This is very frustrating!!
I have also just noticed when i put message in notes and then log out and log in the the message has gone. This got me thinking it could be something with the user account not saving any data that put in? I don't really want to reformat the server if i don't have to.
If anyone has solution to this problem, it would really handy to know?

I click the Note button, nothing happens. The feature is completely out of service. I don't understand. Am I missing something obvious? I have tried the keystrokes too, no reaction at all, no errors, just can't use Notes, at all! rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Please help.
Update: I opened Console to see if I could find any errors immediate after trying to create a note and this is what I found:

  • How do I get badges to stop appearing asking to re-enter my mail passwords?

I keep receiving badges asking for me to re-enter my mail passwords. I have went in to the mail settings and re-entered the passwords which are verified, but I am still getting badges to re-enter the password.

The solution (for me at least) is to keep trying the same password  that I know is correct.  For me, the fourth try of typing in the exact same password works in iTunes on my iMac.  I have repeated this several times, and each time it works.
I also reset my password, but the same problem occurs in iTunes.  I have to type in my password four times in iTunes to get it to work.
iTunes is having issues.  I can log in easily on the first attempt every time to post on this message board and I can sign in easily on my iPad 2 to get app updates, but in iTunes on my iMac it takes four attempts and then it works.
Apple needs to release a statement to the public telling people abut this.  For Apple to know that this iTunes problem exists and that it is causing literally thousands of people to be stressed out is callous and uncaring.

  • Constant Mail password problems...

Always asks for password even though I 'save' option when entering password. Have gone into Key chain and redone all mail pasaswords. Reinstalled Mail. This has been going on for years with all my 15 or so Macs- not some new strange thing that just started. Always had problems with Mail passwords. Is there a definitive handle for this crappy app? Even if it was just a once a week handling, that would be better than every time I try and get Mail it asks for passwords! What a waste of our time!

I just had the same problem but not only with mail - with all my apps. Seems the keychain got corrupt somehow. I called tech support and here's what they walked me through which worked for me - hope it works for you.
    1) Completely quit all your apps except for Finder and Dashboard
2)Go to: Macintosh HD > Users > (Your Home Folder) > Library Folder
    Delete the Keychains Folder
    3) Then go to: Macintosh HD > Users > (Your Home Folder) > Library > Preferences Folder
    Delete file named com.apple.keychainaccess.plist
    4) Restart your computer
Once you've booted back up test it out by opening Mail. It will ask you for the password once more, since you're basically starting a new keychain from scratch. Be sure the password is correct before you click the "Save Password in Keychain" box. I was told conflicting passwords is most likely what caused mine to become corrupt.
Good luck, I hope that helps.

  • Macbook keeps forgetting mail password on restart

Why does my macbook pro lose mail password, go to default wallpaper, load calendar when I restart or turn on my computer? How can I fix this?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset the password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • I keep being asked for my pop.mail password for my user address. Can you help please.

I keep being asked for my pop.mail password and I do not know what is meant. Can you help. I cannot receive or send messages on thunderbird. You say you have sent a reset message to me but it has not come through. I am searching messages on my ipad. I am on the verge of abandoning Thunderbird and continuing to use my ipad and yahoo account. Thank you for your help in advance.

Thunderbird has nothing to do with administering your email password and is not going to send you anything. I am not even sure where you requested that something be sent to you unless it is for the password to this forum which has nothing to do with your email.
Your email provider would have a link to reset your password on their email help page.
I would go to your providers web mail page and see if your username and password work thee. if they do then you might have incorrect server settings causing the password error.

  • Cannot change mail password or mail settings or reset factory settings.

Hi, I had to change my mail password on my computer and now cannot access mail on my iPhone.
The settings area for iCloud and mail are greyed out and I cannot access them.
I have a restrictions passcode in place, but I cannot remember it (have tried very hard!).
I can't restore the factory settings as iCloud is greyed out so I can't turn off Find my Iphone.
The passcode restriction has been an ongoing problem as far as some location services go (eg can't use Hailo), but now it is a BIG problem if I can't get mail.
I took the phone into the genius bar a few months ago to try and unlock the restrictions passcode, but the moment the phone synced again, the problem was there again.
Any help/advice would be HUGELY appreciated! Thank you very much.

You cannot re-sync the device if you need to remove restrictions passcode. You must restore it as New. If you have a prior backup before you added a restrictions code, then you can restore that backup or a previous one.
