Mail policy not blocking attachment

I'm trialling an Ironport C160, and having problems with the content filter. I have an incoming content filter that is set to drop incoming attachments of type jpeg. However, the ironport just lets the attachment past.
The content filter is applied to the default incomping policy. I also tried setting it up as a separate policy with higher priority to default, but the attchment was still allowed through.
If I check the tracking, it says
MAIL POLICY "DEFAULT" MATCHED THESE RECIPIENTS: [email protected]
So it seems that it goes through the policy, but doesn't apply the content filter.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

  • Mail is not saving attachment and save as is not working

Suddenly my Mail is not saving attachment and save as is not working. I tried to save an email as I use to do but it is not completing the task. I should I do?
    Thanks for any help,
    Mario Lordeiro

    Mario,
Was there also NO choice to View As Icon, in the contextual menu? If not, these items/images may be embedded in HTML, rather than true attachments. Other choices for normal attachments would include Open Attachment, Open With, Save to Downloads Folder -- are any of those present in the contextual menu?
With such a message open, click on View in the menubar, place the cursor on Message in the pull-down menu, and choose Raw Source. Is there any HTML code present? Is there a header immediately before any code representing what you believe is an attached file?
If need be, I can send you an email message with a known form of attachment.

  • Software Restriction Policy not blocking MSI files

Hello, we have one SRP in place on our domain that includes MSI files in the Designated File Types, however it is not blocking users from running them.  Has any one else had this issue?  What are some things I should look out for?  Thanks.

    Hi Erin,
    >>we have one SRP in place on our domain that includes MSI files in the Designated File Types, however it is not blocking users from running them.
Are these users standard user accounts (without administrative privileges) ? Besides, what SRP rule did we configure to disallow the .msi files? Here, we can run command
gpreport.html gpresult/h to collect  group policy result report to check how group policy settings are applied. Note, to collect computer part group policy setting report, we need to run the command with administrative privileges.
In addition, to block .msi files, we can also use Applocker to do this. Regarding Applocker, the following article can be referred to for more information.

  • I have HP vison with window 8 in my e mail can not open attachment

can not open attachment on my email

    Hi,
Can you save them ? What are the file formats (after .) of the attachments. Depending the file formats, you need software to be able to open them (most of them are free).
    Regards.

  • Mail does not print attachment name & prints small

When printing an email, if it has an attachment, it does not print the attachment name.  It prints the icon of the attachment (excel, word, psd, etc.) but it doesn't print the name of the file under it.  This started happening since upgrading to Mavericks.
Also, emails are printing much smaller.  Is there a way to enlarge the font when printing?

The same here and quite a lot of other Mail bugs - and all since the new MacPro and Mavericks, no such problems with Mavericks on the MacBookPro 2011 though
Sometimes the file names are printed, sometimes not and there is no way to find out why - it happens on and off with own mails to be sent and mails received.
Workaround for own mails is put each file underneath the other with some distance from the last word. Workaround in case of customer mails received go to reply, edit signature on top, reduce to one page and hope .... sometimes it works.
Also: on and off, Preview will show and printer will print only header on the first page, then body text on the second - only workaround to date (and believe me, I've tried everything) is use Reply, eliminate your own signature and reduce the printed area to less than a page
Also: long mails with back-and-forth messages may print a line half on one page and lower half on second one .... no workaround here.
Seems Mail is going to A4 US instead of A4 small (Europe), though this is not what the printer and the system or Word etc. are set to.
And a sneaking suspicion, that it works ok with people sending me mails from a Mac, but not from a Windows box ... can't bother all my customers though and ask
So please Apple - lots of people have the same problems - will you finally do something about it ... and yes I used the Feedback function

  • Remove Attachments from Leopard Mail does not remove attachment from .emix

Every day I back up my mail (and other items) to an external hard drive using an Automator workflow, in order that I can synchronize mail on my work and home Macs. In order to make this process as quick as possible, I routinely remove attachments from all mail messages once I have saved them to where they need to go on my hard drive.
I have noticed that since upgrading to Leopard (archive and install), the size of the mail folder which I back up (user>library>mail) is getting significantly bigger every day, despite removing all attachments. Upon investigation it seems that although the attachment has been removed from the mail message, the attachment is still in it's associated .emix file (e.g. user>library>mail>POP???mailaccountfolder>INBOX.mbox>messages>?????.emix - if this email contained a 5mb attachment which was removed using mail>message>remove attachments, the .emix file will still be 5mb).
Anyone else experiencing this problem? know a workaround? It didn't happen with mail in 10.4!

I am not sure when I will get the chance to test this -- maybe this afternoon. But I had not understood that what you called original continued to have the attachments. If so, this strongly suggests to me that it indeed may be the way Gmail maintains the All Mail folder that is causing this. See:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6581
If there is a setting to help this, it will have to be one that is selected in the Settings webpage of Gmail, I suspect.

  • Mail is not displaying attached jpeg iOS7

I believe I found an iOS7 bug. In my email, it shows my jpeg attachment (that I created). When I touch the file to display the image on my iphone 5, it just waits - never loading. I never had a problem displaying jpegs until I downloaded iOS7 tonight!!! I've had an iphone(s) for about 5 yrs. I strongly believe this is a bug since I tested this twice with two different jpeg images. Displaying a 69kb jpeg should not be a problem. But surprise, it is, after moving to iOS7. I'm a seasoned mac-only user (mac workstation, macbook pro, iPhone, Creative Suite 6, Photoshop). And a graphic designer. I can't believe this is happening.
I'm going to send png and gif files to further test this... but it's got to be a bug.
I also saw another fix needed. When installing iOS7, the itunes install progress bar was correct when it got to the end of the bar and showed installation was [100%] complete. On my iPhone, which mirrored the iTunes progress bar, there is a scaling error in the length of the display bar graphic shown on the iphone5. Visually, it got to 50% of the progress bar [then completed]. So, on the phone, the progress bar was visually 2x times too long.

Same problem with images not opening in 'Mail' iOS 7. I send an image to myself from my iMac. When I receive it on the iMac, displays in the body with no problem. When I receive it on mobile devices, I just get an icon that won't open for me. I'll pass along what I found out today...
When I attach those images, I don't type in the message body, because no message needed. BUT... if I type just a few characters in the message body like "123", those very same images will open perfectly on my mobile devices.
I'm sure it's a clue,.. just not sure where to follow it now? Maybe you can duplicate that behavior?

  • Mail does not save attachment in rtfd file

When I save a message with an attachment into rich text file, the attachment is not saved.
I have an email with an attached word file: I choose File>Save As..., I check the box "Include Attachments", I choose the Format as Rich Text and navigate to the folder I want. The resulting file has the extension rtfd, but the word attachment is not inside it. Any clues?
    Thanks

Same issue here. After searching Apple support found this:

Basically the "solution" is to manually save the attachments separately.

  • Help!? Mail will not open attachment ?

It's a word document but it is saying it cannot find an application to open it.

    Just to check:
Do you have Word (or some other application that can open Word documents) installed on this Mac?
What happens if you download the document (e.g., to your Downloads folder) and double-click it there?
What happens if you open Word (or similar app) and try to open the document from within the application?
Other information that might turn out to be useful:
What year/model Mac Pro do you have?
What version of [Mac] OS X is it running?
What version(s) of Word (or similar app) is installed?

  • Software restriction policy not working correctly

    Ladies and Gents,
we run a windows server 2008r2 environment.
we have a software restriction policy in place for quite some time now and it's been working fine until about a week ago. here's how we have it setup:
Enforce = All Software files except libraries (such as DLLs). + All Users.
    Security Level = Disallowed
    Designated File Types=
    Defaults
    Additional Rules:
    C:\* = Disallow.
The rest of the rules are paths for files and folders that we have set as Unrestricted.
Since about a week ago, our security team discovered that they can open any allowed file type such as text file, and then go to file and click on open. In the open dialog box they would type
in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and then click and open it would actually open the hosts file.
I even tried adding a path rule for C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts with Disallow, and it’s still allows opening this file for non admins.
Any ideas as to why is software restriction policy not blocking access to any files or folders that are not explicitly allowed via a path rule?
Any help or comments are much appreciated.
    Mohsen Almassud

You are moving in a wrong way. Software Restriction Policies are designed to prevent users to launch executables/applications. It cannot prevent you from opening TXT file, because it is not an executable. In order to prevent TXT files, you have to block
notepad.exe executable. It is very different technology.
You must move to a permission configuration. If there are folders users should not access, remove them from respective folder's ACL. You must be careful with restricting user access to system folders (%systemroot%), because you may block critical applications
and eventually no one will be able to log on to server, because logon-dependant paths are not accessible due to restrictions in the ACL.

  • Attachment Mail Policy

    Dear Expert,
I'm not sure Exchange Server have some mail policy below:
Eg: when we received mail with attachment from outside, I would like to separate the attachment  from the Email.
Only Email(message) will send to the our internal
recipient, the attachment will go to ‘Attachment Server’.
*In the email will have URL or Link to download the attachment from our FTP / Files server. Please Suggest.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Is there any update with your issue?
Agree with Amit. Exchange server 2013 doesn't have a built-in function that can separate attachments from emails and save them to another place. Thanks for your understanding.

how do you log into hotmail at work? via webmail interface? hotmail provides POP email access only when using an email clienet and you probably have Mail set to remove messages from server after downloading them. go to Mail preferences->account->advanced and check those settings. you can change them to leave messages on server or to remove them from server only when they are moved from the inbox.
