Mail Preferences, iCloud.  Incoming Server (IS) info is gray.  Password can't be changed until IS info is input!  How to change?

I am in the process of changing my iCloud password.  I cannot do this in Mail.  And until I do this in Mail, I can't receive any mail in iCloud.
Under Mail Preferences/iCloud/Incoming Server.  Info is there, except it is gray.  I can't change it, or make it appear in black no matter what I do.  Nor is the info showing up in the Server information.  Mail Preferences for iCloud will not allow me to change my password until I input Incoming Server info !!  What do I do?
ICloud under Apple Support allowed me to change the password. But I'm in a rut until this is straightened out.  What to do?

Hi mate, thanks for the info, the original Server p09- etc remains in the box in Mail Preferences, but I went into
System Preferences Mail section and entered your suggestion in the imap box.
I ran a test email, IT WORKS!
You certainly deserve to double your status of Level 2 (12,355 points).
All my best wishes.
Incidentally, I'm a retired electrician, so if anybody in the community needs a question answered, let me know.

  • In Mail preferences, says incoming server is blank but it's just grey

I went in to Mail Preferences and checked the box to delete Notes from my Inbox.  When I click Save it says that the incoming server field cannot be blank.  However the incoming server field is NOT blank, but it is greyed out.  I am still getting emails (that was the first thing I tested!), but now I'm worried that this will lead to other issues (plus I'd really like to get rid of the Notes in my Inbox).  Thanks for the help!

How are you adding the account, in System Preferences>iCloud, or some other way.

  • Mail loosing iCloud SMTP server name

Recently I have found that when I go to create a new email I cannot send it as the Mail application does not have the SMTP server assigned to my iCloud account.  Then when I try to choose one from my existing list, iCloud is greyed out and showing as offline.
I have to then go into Mail>Preferences>Accounts then highlight my iCloud account and pick the iCloud SMTP server, then Save this amendment.  I can then create a new email and its configured to work OK.
Anyone else have this issue or offer a suggestion?
    Running 10.8.3. Thx.

Anyone else having this issue?  It's still going on for me.  It only happend to me since the update to 10.8.3.

  • Mail preferences show outgoing server offline

Mail was working fine up until yesterday. Yesterday the outgoing server started to ask for the password which previously was automatic. When I typed the password it was rejected by the server.
I have 10 accounts in mail that are from different server-names but use my ISP server account as outgoing and incoming server; e.g. xxx.ispserver.jp for all accounts, I can still receive incoming mail on xxx.ispserver.jp but can't send out. Of 10 accounts the Mail preferences show 9 outgoing accounts as Outgoing Mail Server (SMPT) ispserver.jp (offline)
Also 9 of the 10 servers in the drop down list are all now showing offline in mail preferences.
Any help with this would be great, how to get the ispserver.jp (online)
    Thank you

I've had the same problem several times; I am on Comcast cable. Twice, I was told by Comcast to change the port number and that worked (advanced settings under servers) for some time. The other three times, that did not solve the problem. On a hunch, I simply deleted the com.apple.mail.plist (Users - Library - Preferences) and that has worked every time. Bear in mind that you will need to start from scratch when opening Mail after that; I've made screenshots of each and every account setting window in Mail, so it's easy to copy that when needed.

  • Following = Impossible; no such option in mail preferences - iCloud Mail couldn't be enabled from the iCloud Preference Pane. Open Mail and add your iCloud account from Mail preferences.

    What is your question?

  • HT4864 can't get mail from the incoming server. is this me, or is this an Apple problem? 11/27 and 28

Working fine here, go to www.icloud.com, login and see if there is mail there.

  • Mail keeps asking for passwords; incoming server in iCloud is dimmed, not available

Mail on all accounts (iCloud, gmail and comcast) keeps asking for passwords; many Internet sites that used to be filled in from Safari are blank and require password. In Mail accounts, the incoming server for MobileMe/iCloud is dimmed. I can check mail on the Internet but it's kinda handy to have it delivered to the iMac. What's up?

Got the axect same problem. HELP!!! Using me.com still tho. But I want to use mail again!!!
    UPDATE!!!
Okay, it is working now. I removed my account in Mail and upgraded to iCloud. Now it is working.

  • Passwords in mail preferences being erased automatically

Why are passwords being automatically erased in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Incoming mail server which causes pop up screens asking for passwords? This happens multiple times for the same email accounts.

Passwords disappearing from both mail and keychain... odd.
It’s not that the password disappears from both Mail and the keychain. Mail saves your password in the keychain and nowhere else, reads it from there when needed, and apparently also removes the password from the keychain when it thinks is invalid...
I thought Keychain's function was to preserve and protect passwords not erase them.
The purpose of the keychain isn’t to preserve anything, but rather to make certain pieces of information accessible to authorized agents only. There is nothing wrong with allowing the agent that stored something there to remove it later.
The problem has nothing to do with the keychain itself, but rather with the fact that Mail sometimes assumes the password is invalid when that’s not the case.
Is mail 4.0 new for OS X 6.0 (Snow Leopard)??
    Yes.
I could swear I had this problem prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.
This I don’t know. I do know, however, that it happens in Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), but didn’t happen in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

  • How can I configure an outgoing server that has a different password than the rest of my email account?

I have a work email account where the password for my incoming server is different than the password for my outgoing server. I cannot find how to change this in the outgoing server settings on thunderbird. Any help would be very appreciated!

Try to add another SMTP server using correct password then tell the mail account to use that smtp server.
    * Tools > Account settings > Outgoing Server (SMTP)
    * click on 'Add'
    * enter a Description so you can easily tell which server this is.
    * enter server details.
    * userbame = full email address
    * password = correct smtp password.
    * click on OK
Then tell your mail account to use that smtp server.
    * select the mail account name in left column
    * bottom right section 'Outgoing server (SMTP)
    * click on drop down and select the smtp server you just added.
    * click on OK to save changes to Account Settings.
Note: Account Settings can be located via various methods:
    Menu Bar
    * Tools > Account settings
    Mail Toolbar:
    * menu icon > Options > Account Settings
    FolderPane:
    * right click on mail account and select 'Settings'

  • Why does iCloud keep asking me to verify my password?

At least three times a day I get an alert from iCloud telling me to verify my iTunes password. Why does this happen all the time and how can I fix it?

  • HT4864 My icloud incoming mail server info is "grayed out" How do I fix this?

My iCloud incoming mail server is grayed out.  Also my iCloud and Gmail accounts are showing offline.  I just did update to Mountain Lion 2 days ago and now I cannot send mail.

Re: Messages Menu Commands Greyed Out
    A simple solution...
After much troubleshooting, I have isolated the issue with the greyed out "Messages" app menu. The problem is due to the truetype font Apple Gothic missing which is required for the AppleID login window when you first launch Messages. You can just hit skip when the dialog box comes up, but until you do so the full messages menus are not available. So to fix, just drop AppleGothic.ttf in <bootdrive>/Library/Fonts and Messages 8.x should launch correctly. Apple should have really included this font in <bootdrive>/System/Library/Fonts since it is required for one of their Apps
Many people in the prepress or graphics arts fields will likely run into this issue when they customize fonts.

  • ICloud incoming mail server is greyed out so I cannot change info or add alias account

I cannot add a new icloud alias to my mac mail because the incoming mail server is greyed out & unchangeable.
    Help!

Aliases should be added on the iCloud website.

  • ICloud Mail & Incoming Server info "lost"

I have "lost" my Incoming Server link/information 3 times today. When I delete and recreate the acct, it works for 3-4 hours, then is lost again.  Any ideas?

Additional information: by using my password, I'm able to reestabish the server connection.  So the question above remains: why does this keep happening?

  • Why can I not access ICloud mail on Mac Mail anymore.  When I reopen a new ICloud account, the "incoming server" box is gray and I cannot enter anything.   This happened the 3-4 times I attempted to start a new icloud account?

Was getting ICloud mail then it stopped.   Icons next to ICloud on my mac mail say it's a netweork error.   I tried deleting the iCloud account several times and reentering it but it always leaves out the info that goes into the "incoming server" box and there is no way to manually enter it as the box is grayed out.

Sign out of iCloud (system preference>iCloud) reboot and sign back in.
