Mail Preferences - Signatures?

When going into Mail>Preferences, I am not seeing any tab or option for setting up Signatures per Mail Help.
?

I understand what you're saying - and that typically this option is there, yet like I said - there is no signature option.
When I click Mail>Preferences an "Accounts" window opens. There are three tabs at the top of the window - Account Information, Mailbox Behaviors & Advanced.
I'm somehow not getting the typical mail preferences window.

  • Why Won't Mail Retain Signatures Copied From One Account to Another?

I maintain two accounts in Apple Mail: 1) my Exchange account for work, and 2) my .Me account for personal email. My Exchange account has five signatures. Thrice now, I've attempted to add four of the signatures from my Exchange account to my .Me account. Apple Mail seems to make the addition, however, after shutting down Apple Mail and relaunching it, my .Me account is back to 0 signatures. Has anyone else noticed Apple Mail refusing to retain signatures in accounts?

Let me clarify what you have done, and whether that matches the way Signatures work. There is only one data base of Signatures, and they are composed in Mail Preferences/Signatures. After a Signature has been composed and added to the data base of Signatures, then it must become associated with an account for it to be related to that account. The same Signature can become associated with more than one account, and the method of association is to drag a Signature onto an account name in the Sidebar to the Signatures window.
At the top of the Sidebar is All Signatures, if you then click on each account below that, then it will be reported which Signatures have been associated with that one account.
Is this what you have done?

  • Error message says error writing Mail preferences

There’s a discussion about the very same problem I’m having at <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2047886&#2047886> about Mail not being able to save preferences... or at least a message pops up each time despite the fact that the preferences are saved. Annoying, really. I’ve followed all the steps suggested in the above thread, including terminal commands and repairing of permissions. However, the problem didn’t go away. Unfortunately, the thread above was closed (without being answered), so I had to open a new post. Here’s a description of the problem as stated in the above thread... and the problem occurs exactly like that on my Powerbook running 10.4.7.
    **** Original question follows ***
At some point in time, I suddenly began having the problem of every time I close my Mail preferences window, I get an error message stating, "Error Saving Preferences - Writing your preferences to disk has failed. Your preferences may not have been saved. The permissions on ~/Library/Preferences may be wrong or your disk may be full."
My hard disk has many GB free, and I still keep getting the error message after repairing permissions.
I ran a test of changing a couple of prefs, then quitting Mail and relaunching, and my changes stuck.
But some prefs such as changes to signatures won't stick (although they never did, so the latter may be unrelated to my current problem).
In any event, it's disconcerting that I keep getting the error message.
Anyone know what's up? Is there a fix?

The preference file may be corrupt.
    Try the following:
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
The only exception to this is if you have a .Mac account and/or you created an email account as part of the original computer setup assistant used when first turning on the computer after it was purchased which will be re-created automatically.
Launch Mail and decline the prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailbox files at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
Test if this resolves the problem.
My hard disk has many GB free, and I still keep getting the error
    message after repairing permissions.
What is your hard drive capacity and available free space?

  • Mail Preferences Disappeared

Mail was working just fine all day. My wife tries to reply to a message received earlier and gets the following error message:
"This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail Preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator."
I go to Mail->Preferences and the only Preference pane I get is for Junk Mail. General, Accounts, Fonts and Colors, Viewing, Composing, Signatures, Rules are all missing. Can't very well verify the SMTP server settings if the Preference pane isn't there.
My Inbox looks OK and I have received one message since this all started. I can read the contents and was able to empty the Junk Mail and Deleted Messages mailboxes. File sizes in Users->xxx->Library->Mail all are the right size and appear intact.
I've tried a reboot and a complete system shutdown (including power disconnect), but Mail Preferences are still missing. There's nothing in the Trash that looks fishy. I've tried a couple of test messages back to my own e-mail account and got the same error message.
Is there a way to reinstall only the Mail app? Is there some way to find/verify that the Mail Preferences exist?
Need help, here. This is weird-and-a-half. First time in 20 years on Mac that I've seen anything like this.

OK, I found the answer in a reply to another question. The pill-shaped buton in the upper right corner of the Junk Mail Preference pane retrieved the rest of the Preferences and I was able to check my SMTP Server settings, which were correct. My test messages also came through this morning, leading me to believe that my ISP had a problem on their end, which was subesequently corrected.
My habit has always been to close any Preferences window while in the "Show All" mode, so I didn't think to check that first.

  • No Mail Preferences Need to Look at My Account Settings

Ok - Someone got my email password and I had to call my email company. They had me change my password. But now I cannot send mail. I can receive it. And all my other email address are working. Something happened with my mail awhile ago where when I click on mail preferences the only thing that comes up is a box with rules. I don't know how to fix this. I have tried everything that I can think of. I have browsed through here, but I am not too familiar with this new OSX mac stuff. So if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Oh, maybe this will help you too, I downloaded Eudora, a mac email program (cause there are no mail programs out there for us mac lovers) and I set this up. I am still getting the same problem, I cannot send emails. Which leads me to believe there is something I am missing.

When you have opened Preferences (which isn't giving you any choices), still with Preferences pane open the next thing to do is to go back up to the top menu bar click on View
and from that will be a choice Show Toolbar (in preferences)
After doing that you should once again have General, Accounts, Junk Mail, Fonts and colours, Viewing, Composing, signature, Rules.
You are only seeing Rules, because the toolbar is not showing.

  • Problem in Mail with signatures

    Has anyone experienced this?
I'm running Leopard and using two different user identities("A" and "B" on my macbook.
In one identity "A", I use signatures in Mail for two different email accounts. Sometimes I log out of identity "A" and use Mail in identity "B" with a third email address. After I send an e-mail in identity "B" and log back into identity "A" the signatures that were assigned to one of my email accounts are no longer assigned to the account. They are still there, but I have to reassign them to the account by logging back in to Mail preferences.
    Any input would be great.

If you have them on your hard drive, don't just disable, but delete the fonts Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic.
It's also likely some of the fonts you added are either damaged or conflict with other system fonts. Remove all fonts you installed and note the result. Add them back 5 to 10 at a time and see if the problem reappears. If it does, you'll know at least one of the fonts you put back is bad.

  • Missing Mail Preferences

    Mail 2.0.7 When I select Mail Preferences I have 3 tabs - Account Information/Mailbox Behaviors/Advanced.
My wife is on OS 10.3.9 with Mail 1.3.11 Her Mail Preferences has 8 buttons
    General/Accounts/Junk Mail/Fonts & Colors/Viewing/Composing/Signatures/Rules
I've trashed the preference folder but no change.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You have the preferences toolbar closed on Accounts.
Go to Mail > Preferences and at the top right of the Preferences window is a clear pill shaped button.
Selecting this button opens/closes the complete Preferences toolbar.

  • Mail Preferences Dialogue Box

I don't appear to be getting the correct dialogue box when I click on "Mail", "Preferences". A dialogue box that is titled "Accounts" appears. I know looking at a friends Mac, he gets an entirely different box. We both appear to have the same version of mail....
How do I get the correct box?
    Thanks

Aren't there some tabs at the top of the preferences window ranging from "Accounts", "RSS", "Junk" to "Signatures" etc.? Just click on one of these buttons to open up the corresponding settings window. (Note: The preferences window always opens up with the tab that was last used.) Did that solve your issue?

  • Apple Mail drops signature

    Hi
I'm running latest 10.8.2 on a brand new Mac Mini.  I have several email accounts.  On the latest one I've set up, for no apparent reason, the signature keeps deleting.  So, when I compose a mail... no signature.  When I investigate in Preferences/Signatures I find the name of my signature but a blank screen where it used to be.  It's happening daily.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Mail - picture signature will not change

I'v changed my "picture signature" (the picture that appears at the top of emails)by going to my account at .Mac - mail/preferences/photo then saved it etc.
Now - if I send an email from the .Mac page it shows the new photo, but when I send an email from my Mail account on my computer it still shows the old one.
I've found these instructions about deleting a file:-
"Drag the file named "<username>@mac.com" to the Trash. It is located in this path: o ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.addressservices/Photos/<username>@mac.com "
But these instructions are for whatever OS was around in 2003 and don't make sense now. Anybody know what to do ?

go to photo booth and replace your account photo.

  • Mail Preferences not remembered...

My mail preferences are not being remembered when mail is reopened, even the email default to send from is not remembered, all folders with in Mail when opened are collapsed & no signatures are in place.
Brand new iMac, mail was imported from Macbook Pro with no issues 2 weeks ago. Mail was freezing on start up so I followed a thread on here:
Library/containers/com.apple.mail & delete the named folder, which did resolve the freezing on start up, now no preferences are remembered by mail.
    Any help would be fantastic...
    Thanks in advance

Is there any chance anyone can help, this issue is becoming rather annoying especially as this iMac is less than a month old!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Apple Mail, my signatures wont show,

I am having an issue with Apple Mail When I type an email and want to add my signature all I get is none or edit signatures,
I can see them when I look at them while editing( I figured I would try to see if editing changed something) but they do not come up when I want to select them, all I get is "none" or "edit Signatures". this problem started today, any ideas?
I have restarted the computer a few times to no avail.  I have tried adjusting the settings in the mail but no luck.   Out of ideas.

From the Mail menu bar, select
              Mail ▹ Preferences... ▹ Signatures
Drag the signatures to each of the desired accounts in the list on the left. If you want one to be the default signature added to all messages sent from that account, select the account, and then select from the Choose Signature menu at the bottom of the dialog.

  • Has anyone else had an issue where Mail.app signatures and rules disappeared?

For unknown reasons, I lost all my Mail.app signatures and Rules on Oct 10, 2012 at about 9:00AM PST.
Anybody else see something like this?
Also, I am getting sandboxd warnings that are Mail preference related....
I am guessing that the preferences access error that the sandboxd is having is related but who knows...

I think this is an issue with the phone's proximity sensor (the one that turns the screen off when you hold it up to your ear). It's a bug that seems to occur when you switch to another app (any app) while still on a phone call. You'll notice in Messages that the screen goes dark when you move your thumb over the earpiece/iSight camera, but not when you move your other thumb.
Simplest solution is to force-quit the Messages app (double-click the home button, and swipe up on the app). The problem should resolve itself when you restart Messages.
