MAIL: Problem Archiving Sent Emails

If I move emails from my Sent Mailbox to a folder On My Mac to archive them, they all come up showing the Sender (me) instead of the Recipient.  I can Sort by To, but then I lose the chronological order.  I've got about 17,000 sent items, so leaving them all in the online Sent Mailbox isn't practical.  Deleting them isn't an option either, I need them for memoirs I'm writing.
Any advice?  People have been complaining about this for the last five years so I don't see Apple springing to my rescue any time soon.  I used to use Entourage and it worked beautifully, but then iCloud came around, forcing my transition to IMAP, so I switched to Outlook and it's awful.  Would love to switch to Mail if I can just figure out how to work around this issue.
Thanks!

I'm not quite sure I understand the problem, but do you know that you can add or remove columns for any mailbox list in Mail by right (or control) clicking in the column name area or from the View > Columns menu item?
This is done on a per mailbox basis, so for example you can add a "Date Sent" column to your 'On My Mac' folder if it doesn't have one & sort by that. You can also click & drag the columns into a different order left to right or resize them by dragging the dividers between them.

  • Apple Mail (10.7) Sent Emails...where are they

I have sent over 140 emails since August 3rd using OSX Lion and NONE, Yes NONE are showing in Apple Mail's "Sent" files.
As usual I went back to Outlook 2011 and all 142 sent emails are there.
What the heck is going on with Apple Mail??????
    ....Cannot search for anything
    .....Cannot find sent emails
    and more..
Hate to say that so far Outlook 2011 is MUCH better, but I hope that this is not true and someone can give us a reason why so far Apple Mail is a HUGE disappointment.
    Thx Much

I have this problem with our exchange 2007 accounts. Since I installed Lion I noticed the sent folder didn't contain any of the exchange accounts, I carried on for a few days but the sent folders never appeared. So I deleted each of the four exchange accounts I use in my company and set them up again. Hurrah! the sent items appeared but after a few days they disappeared again. Here is my screen shot of the settings used, which by the way i havent changed.
Just to end I'd say that I like Mail in Lion but this bug? is making it unusable so I've moved to Outlook while it gets fixed.

  • Has Yosemite fixed Maverick's Mail problem with Group email addresses?

Does anyone know if Yosemite has fixed the problem that Maverick's Mail program had with Contacts? Maverick's Mail program cannot show Group Address names in the email "To:" window. By default, it shows all of the email addresses in a Group rather than the Group name. The work-around requires putting Group Addresses in the "Bcc:" window. Has that problem been fixed in Yosemite?
    Many thanks,
    Bob Winckler

    Hi Barney,
Just found out that Maverick's problem with Mail's Group address procedure has resulted in my email accounts being put on hold by my Internet Provider. I'm the president of a local club, and I routinely send out emails to 200+ email addresses several times a month. Since Maverick's Mail now doesn't keep Group addresses hidden when shown in the email "To:" window, we have to put those Group addresses into the "Bcc:" window.  The first couple of times that I did that, the emails went through, but the third time that I tried to send out such an email, my Internet Provider shut down my email account with the statement "Your ability to send new mail has been suspended as a high volume of suspicious mail has been sent from your account recently. Please contact your IT administrator."  The IT administrator required me to run a virus check and then set a new password for my account before they would reactivate it. In my discussions with several of my Internet Provideer's tech reps, it appears that the way the way that the Internet Provider has their server's security system set, a high volume of email addresses in the "Bcc:" section of emails is enough to shut down an account as suspicious. Until Apple gets this problem fixed, my only options are to switch internet providers (after finding one that will let high volumes of "Bcc:" go through) or switch to an older Mac operating system, which I've done (now using an ancient iMac 400DV running Tiger (OS 10.4.11).  Given the high number of businesses, etc., likely to be using Macs, I'm really surprised that Apple has let this problem with Maverick's Mail program go uncorrected.
    Best regards,
    Bob W

  • Mail question regarding sent email storage

in the Mail program, I want to keep sent emails on the server for a week, but then delete them, but will this delete them on my computer(s) or just from the server?

If it's an IMAP email account (such as iCloud email or Gmail), it will delete them everywhere.  If you want to keep them, but not have them on the server, you'll need to archive them locally on your computer before deleting them.

  • Mail Problem - copying every email I send to inbox

I am using mail to access and send mail through my gmail account.  For some reason, the other day, I started seeing copies of every email I replied to showing up in my inbox. Actually, it's my "All Mail" box because I've never found an "Inbox" on the Mac Mail program.  Anyone know how to fix this?
Before anyone asks: I'm not CCing myself.  I already checked.  When I click "Reply" the cc and bcc lines are blank.  However, when I send the message I get a copy of it about 2 minutes later.
    Sure could use some help!
    Nick

Google Mail's 'All Mail' box includes sent mail so that's correct.
When using Mac mail you have access to the google mail boxes but they are below the Mail apps Mailboxes incl Inbox, Sent, Trash, Junk and drafts if you have any.
Maybe you just need to reset the mail app in Mail Preferences or I believe you can set up Mac Mail through Google too.
    Best.

  • Mail Receipt of sent email

How can I get a receipt of sent emails in Mail and Leopard?

If you had used [email protected] you would certainly not get a response!
Not all email applications pay attention to the receipt request; those that do generally allow the user to decide whether or not to acknowledge receipt. To test whether it is working, open one of your sent messages and view the full headers and see if the disposition notification header is there with your correct email address.

  • Gmail problem-duplicating sent emails

the title pretty much says it all. I set up a gmail account on the mail app. i sent a email and it keeps duplicating the sent email only showing bits and pieces of it a time until it shows the full sent email. I would have like 10 duplicates of the same sent email. I try to delete it and its come back. I want it to stop what do i do?

Those are the drafts that are autosaved every minute (hence the partial contents with each version). Those will be automatically cleared out after you send the full email. If you don't want to see them, you should probably not save drafts on the server (Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Mailbox Behaviors>Drafts).

  • Mail grabs other sent emails when I send a new message to someone

I just discovered something really bad happening when I send a message using Apple Mail on Lion. I hope I can explain it correctly.
I have multible accounts in Mail.Don't think that's the problem but, when I click on the "New Message" button up top to write a new message to someone, After I send it, I find when I look in the "Sent" folder that it grabbed different emails that I sent to other email addresses. That *****! I can't find a setting anywhere to stop it form doing that. Anybody have any idea how to stop that from hapening?

I was just playing around and it looks like it grabs emails that have the same subject text in the Subject" box. That's just crazy!

  • How do you get Mountain Lion Mail to show sent email size?

I upgraded to mountain lion I think a couple months ago so I don't remember exactly when I lost this feature, but in Snow Leopard for sure there was an option that when composing a new email, a little bar across the bottom of the email showed the size of your email so when you were adding attachments you could see the size your email was getting to be. I obviously haven't used that in a while because I ahvent' sent attachments in a long while, but I have recently started to do that again and tonight when I was adding files, there was no bar across the bottom of the email at all so I have no idea what size my email was. Even when I hit send and the progress bar in the bottom left of Mail ("Mail Activity") that use to show the file size right underneath the bar also now no longer shows the size so I have absolutely no idea how big the email I sent was.
Can anyone tell me how to get the option back to show the email size of the mail your composing in that little bar on the bottom of your email as well as the file size to display as you are sending in "Mail Actiivity" window? Thanks so much if anyone can help. Thank you!

  • PI: Sender Mail adapter: archive incoming email

    Hi!
Our task is to archive the incoming email unchanged - in the file adapter I have the possibility to store the processed file on a different location. Do I have this possibility also with the mail adapter?
IMplementing a Module bean is not possible in our case as we use sMIMe security and the framwork does the signature checking before calling the adapter modules and also removes the certificate attachment from the incoming data.
    Any help would be fine!
I have heard of "Security archiving" - can be found in the RWB when selecting the adapter engine - does anybody hav experience with this?
    kr Martin

    Hi Martin,
On the STATUS tab itself, you will a lot of other options, like - Repeat Ping, Repeat Self-Test, Communication Channel Monitoring and so on. At the same place, you will find option for Security Archiving. Once you click on that, a new window will pop-up. There you can configure your archiving options.

  • AOL Mail - PROBLEMS with sent mail

My mail is with AOL. Quite often these days I have trouble using Apple Mail. Wondering if it's AOL's problem or something wrong with my computer, or if it's my cable internet provider (Time Warner Cable - which tests at 20/1.75 Mb/sec)
Sent messages occasionally take FOREVER to send (regular text - no attachments). The transfer speed goes from very low to zero. The second problem is that occasionally sent messages don't show up in my sent folder. Most of the time it's these messages that take forever that don't show up. They don't show up in my sent folder at aol.com either. As if they never existed. Yet I do know that they are actually being sent and delivered.
    Major frustration.

I have not had any problems using AOL?
Either had I until today. I got a restricted content message when I attempted to post. I had originally used "aol.com" in my message. I assumed this was the problem, so I removed the ".com". Still got the restricted content message. I tried changing "AOL" to "America Online" and it worked.
Strange. Seems to be allowing me to post it now. Don't worry about it.
With the other Sent folder you found, apply Use This Mailbox For and choose Sent. Be sure to first transfer any messages in the one under paper airplane icon to another mailbox it they are not duplicated anywhere else.
When you do this, all should be well. I think AOL sent out instructions at one point to do just this step.
Thank you Ernie! This worked! Bravo!

  • Mail not saving sent email

This just started on March 12, no apparent reason that I can find.  The account is a POP, preferences are set to never delete.  Kind of annoying! Thanks for any suggestions...
    OS 10.6.8, Macbook Pro 2.33  Mail 4.5 (1084)

My primary email account is IMAP and I have just found what I suspect are all the messages that were not saved in my "sent" folder either on my iMac or ISP server. They were in the "Sent" folder of my secondary, little-used Hotmail account and the recipients "saw" these as originating from this account rather than the one from which I actually sent them. After some testing, I discovered that, for my primary account, the "always use this server" box was not checked. I surmise that, if the Mail app has trouble using the server associated with my primary account, it simply uses the Hotmail server (this would be consistent with the delay before hearing the "whooshing"noise). What does surprise me is that, if this Hotmail server has been used, the recipient sees the message as originating from Hotmail. Is this what is supposed to happen?

  • Mail Problem - Not receiving emails

    Hi,
Whenever I try to see if I have new emails from Mail I get nothing but when I check GMail I get emails!! The latest one from Mail was 6th November 2011 and the latest one from GMail is from TODAY!! Is their a way I can fix it?

  • Sent emails from Yahoo or iphone dont appear in sent mail folder on MacBook

Please can someone help? My email account is with Yahoo mail (free one); I can send and receive emails without a problem from Mail on my MacBook. However If i send an email from a browser session in Yahoo mail then the sent email does not appear in my Mail sent folder. Likewise i can send and receive emails on my iphone but the sent emails do not appear in either my Yahoo Sent folder or my Mail sent folder.

that's because yahoo only offers POP access. that's a limitation of POP. it only downloads your inbox messages from the server. it does not do any kind of syncing and it does not download or up load sent messages. if you want that you need to switch to an email provider that offers IMAP (yahoo doesn't). IMAP syncs everything with the server so you'll get the same mailboxes contents everywhere you access that account.

  • Sent emails missing spaces

Hi i am currently using Apple Mail 2.1.3 to send and receive emails. Pretty much since the day i have been using this all my clients have complained that when they receive emails sent from me a lot of the words are joined together and missing spaces. But looking in my sent box they look fine to me.
having tested this a bit further in my office i am the only mac user but my colleagues use a PC and have no problem with sent emails.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
    thanks,
    Martin

Hi i changed the font to a standard default (arial) but no suck luck still. I can't have plain text emails as company policy to have a coloured footer.
Here is an example of how one of my clients received an email i sent them. Again most of my clients have this problem with me.
