Mail problem.  Each time I start the computer

Hi
I use Apple mail on my Imac 10.5. Every time that I start the computer and try to send mail a window tells me that my server does not accept my e-mail address. But it is not the server that is the issue. I go to connection doctor and I ask the 'assistant' to help and after running through the assistant several times the mail goes out. I also open the 'network' panel and this unlocks and looses my DHCP and Appletalk settings at each re-start so between the re-establishing of my settings here and running the 'assistant' many times I can after many frustrating repeats, get my mail to go...
This is a recent problem. I have not had any problem sending mail for the last 2 years.
Any ideas?
Bruce

Thanks for the replies.
The only way that I can get mail to be sent is to go to network and ask "assist me" to help me. But I need to go through the whole process many times and each time I go through the 'farce' of being told that the ethernet is connected, then cannot be connected and then connected again, my DHCP setting drops off and Appletalk disconnects.
I have no idea why Appletalk is involved...
After re-typing the DHCP name and reconnecting Appletalk and re-locking the padlock (which unlocks itself continually) and going to the "assist me" again and again, then re-setting the DHCP and making Appletalk active again, over and over, this process taking years off my life, sometimes, the mail goes out.
It is completely random and I cannot say which action triggers it to work. It just takes this going around in circles many times to trip something...
This problem started when I changed service providers. But I am connected to the internet continually and all other internet using applications work without interruption. The modem is functioning properly. My ports and 'authentication' fields are set as suggested by others (in replies to similar problems)
And this annoying and new issue occurs at each start up...

Do you have Parallels installed by any chance?  There is a known problem that causes symptoms similar to this.  You do not need to actually be running Parallels at the time and nothing in ActivityMonitor would point to Parallels.  An update corrects the problem:

  • I am using Windows 7 and using IE 10, I have to reinstall Flash Player each time I start my computer

Hi I am using Windows 7 and IE 10 and I have to reinstall Flash Player each time I start my computer, even with a fresh install. The same thing is happening on my laptop and is driving me crazy. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem. I have tried some suggested fixes from this forum with still no results. Thanks.

Make sure that you allow Firefox in your security software (firewall).
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
    See:
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firewalls
Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 19.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • In FF8.01 how can I prevent the add-on check which pops up each time I start the program?

In Firefox 8.01, each time I start Firefox, a box pops up indicating the program is checking to see if my addons are compatible. There are currently 3 which are not, and this box simply delays the program start to tell me the same thing every time I start Firefox. Most annoying. Is there a way I can prevent this box from appearing, or reduce it to once a week or once a month?

FF9 does not seem to have the automatic plugin check, so the problem appears solved. Thanks !!

  • Flash player needs to be installed each time I use the computer

I need it for work and is a ripe old pain. Please help!

Reinstalled this morning. It worked to view videos on reuters.com.  Turned off computer.
Turned computer on again in the evening.  True to form, discovered it is not working again, and that I would have to reinstall it.  But first, Checked System32 and SysWOW64 to see what files were there before doing a reinstall, and for comparisons’ sake.  Previous to reinstall they are as follows :
    Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash files are:
    Flash64_11_1_102.ocx
    FlashInstall.log
    FlashUtil64_11_1_102_ActiveX.dll
    FlashUtil64_11_1_1102_ActiveX.exe
    Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash files are:
    Flash11e.ocx
    FlashInstall
    FlashUtil11e_ActiveX.dll
    FlashUtil11e_ActiveX
Note:  I was right-clicking on each file name in the directory, then copying and pasting the file name into a new WORD document  to make the above lists.  This only worked with the System 32 files.  SysWOW64 files could not be cut and pasted because I got the message, “Word cannot obtain the data for Flash11e.ocx link”.  All the files in SysWOW64 had the same message.  Lazy me had to actually type out the SysWOW64 file names as opposed to copy and paste.   ;-)  Could "inability" to "obtain data" have something to do with the system being unable to retrieve the code to make it work???  I run 64 bit.(see my first post above).
    REINSTALL:
Reinstalled this evening from : http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Confirmed that it is enabled in “manage add-ons” in the browser.
Confirmed that same files as listed above are unchanged after the reinstall.
    Rebooted.
Confirmed that same files as listed above are unchanged after reinstall and reboot.
Confirmed it is enabled in “manage add-ons” in the browser.
Hope this helps, cuz really need a solution.  I’m pretty sure that once I turn my computer off this evening, and then next time I turn it on again, I’m going to have to reinstall Flash again.
    Thank-you.

  • Satellite L100-130: Sound every time when start the computer

I have got a Toshiba Satellite L100-130 (my first notebook and my first experience with Windows XP). When I start my computer I hear the Microsoft Windows XP Sound, but after that I have to manually adjust the sound volume, because it is set at 0 every time I started up my notebook.
I wanted to know if this is normal with Windows XP/notebooks or there is something wrong with... anything...

    Hi
As far as I know the L100 has no volume switch at the notebook side. Am I right?
Therefore the software application is responsible for the volume control.
Like Jeffrey has written in the post above you should check the sound volume controls in the sound and audio devices.
There you will find many controls. Check if all are set to the higher level.
But if it doesnt change the sound volume settings so I assume its a default setting and you have to increases the sound volume if you start the Media Player.

  • I cannot get my preferred images to remain on the desktop.  Through preferences I choose an image and it disappears each time I turn the computer off: why?  And how can I stop this?

When I go to 'desktop' in system preferences and choose an image for the desktop, it disappears when I turn the computer off.  Why is this?  And how can I get an image to remain until I choose to change it?  It acts this way whether I click 'change' or not.

If you log in automatically, a known bug will cause the desktop picture to revert to the default image of a galaxy at every startup. The only workaround is to disable automatic login in the Users & Groups preference pane.
If the desktop picture always reverts to a plain blue background, one of your login items may be causing the problem. The "Team Viewer" application has this effect, as reported by ASC user Zimmerwald. If it's not that in your case, rule out all other third-party login items as possible causes.
According to one report, a "stuck" desktop picture setting can be fixed by changing the setting and then immediately rebooting. I can't confirm, but there's no harm in trying it.
If none of the above applies to you, proceed as follows.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following item to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • How do I stop ITunes from opening up every-time I start the computer

Everytime I start my computer, Itunes opens up. I tries going into startup items, but it is not listed there.
How do I get it to stop opening on Boot Up?
    Thanks in advance
    I have a Power Mac G5

If iTunes is in the Dock, control or right click it.
Does it have the "Open at Login" item ticked? If so, select it to untick.
    That should do the trick.

  • When I open FF4 for the first time after starting the computer it is very slow to load. From then on it loads normaly.

I have an HP Pavilion DV9000.

I had this problem too. Not just with FF 4 but also previous versions. For that and other reasons I decided to by an SSD and install windows and all the programs on there. That worked fine except for firefox. Boot time is much faster (2o secs) and programs (from the startup folder) are loaded almost immediately after the desktop comes up. However firefox still took 90 seconds to load. After some trial and error I disables in the registry prefetcher and superprefetch (I am running windows 7, no SP1). Then I restarted my computer twice. The first time firefox did not load any faster but at any subsequent startup firefox starts in a few seconds. In fact some times it is so fast it comes up before the wireless network connection is established. HTH

  • I tried several times to setup a mail account with Thunderbird, but next time I boot the computer and start Thunderbird, no account is shown.

I bought a new desktop PC with Win 8.1 and installed Firefox and Thunderbird.
Then, I tried to configure the e-mail account manually (as IMAP) following the instructions provided here: https://support-en.upc-cablecom.ch/app/answers/detail/a_id/22 , but failed to configure the smtp outgoing mail server correctly (I could receive mail, but not send them). Subsequently, I deleted that account. Then, I launched the automatic mail setting tool provided by UPC Cablecom under the link http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/content/dam/www-upc-cablecom-ch/Support/executables/upc-cablecom-email-assistent.exe and it did successfully setup the account, however as a POP3 account. As I was not happy with it, I deleted the POP3 incoming mail server (and lost the received e-mails, of course...) and retried a manual setup. Doing so, I obtained an incoming IMAP mail account plus two outgoing SMTP server (comparing them, I also understood the configuration mistake I had done the first time). I then deleted the manual SMTP server as the automatically setup server worked properly.
In this context, both receiving and sending e-mail worked OK. However, the next time I started the computer, the e-mail account disappeared and Thunderbird asked me to setup a new account again. I successfully set it up manually one more time, but the same problem surfaced again at the next boot, the e-mail account was gone...!
Thanks in advance for your help!

I have deleted preferances. I deleted the account using the - sign in system preferances. I make the account inactive, close mail and relaunch and it is active. I have using the email and installed a new ssd system drive. I was able to change some of the mail program settings but then it just quit letting me change and save them. When I delete it in the mail program, it asks it I want to remove it for good, I say yes.
