Mail problem Hotmail account

Hello. hoping someone can please help.
Have just purchased a 13.3" Macbook Pro, and love it - though am experiencing difficulties setting up various features.
Hope this is the correct forum.
Have set up two email accounts in Mail, GMail and Hotmail.
GMail seems fine, but my Hotmail account only shows a couple of folders. There should be approximately 5 folders (some containing emails which I keep),
and they are not appearing in my Macbook Mail. They show when using my old PC in Windows LiveMail and on the server. Wondering whether there is anything I can do to make them show in Mail, along with other folders.
Have looked at settings, and totally confused.
Would really appreciate any help.
Cannot state operating system - I know it is Lion (purchased last week), not sure where to look!

There is a relatively easy way to setup the folders.
Step 1: Click on File, Add Account
Step 2: Type in the e-mail address and password
Step 3: Click Continue while holding down the Option key.
You now have options that didn't appear before.
Step 4: Select Account Type as SMTP
Step 5: Change Incoming Mail Server to imap-mail.outlook
Make sure that the username and password are entered correctly for your Hotmail account.
Click Continue. Make sure that Use SSL is selected and click Continue.
Step 6: Change Outgoing mail server to smtp--mail.outlook
Check username and password
Click Continue
Check details, select option to have account online, click on Create and done!

Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information. Problems receiving e-mails on Hotmail account while Windows Live Messenger is working on a pc...

Dear all,
it happens that when I have my Windows Live Messenger opened on my pc and fully working, I cannot receive the emails on my Hotmail account on my BB Torch 9860.
Is there any chance to fix this issue? 'Cause when I close Windows Live Messenger, the e-mail box works properly...

There is nothing to fix. As the KB says, only one client can be logged into Live at a time. So, if you (for example) leave a PC desktop logged in, then your BB email service will be unable to log in and bring email to your BB. I do not know if configuring the email via POP versus IMAP (which, btw, you cannot control via the BB email configuration) would make any difference or not. The way to make it all work is do exactly as you did...log out from the PC whenever you want email to flow to the BB.

Mail and hotmail account sync issues

Hi,
I have recently reinstalled my mac to factory settings having cleared the HD. I then upgraded to OSMaverick for the first time and reinsatalled all my progames etc etc.
There are clearly some upgrades with Mail in Mavericks which look very nice. However, when i resync my hotmail account, it will only display the previous 350 or so emails in the inbox. (before the reinstal, Mail would display all 15000 emails from the past 5 years).
The rest of the emails appear to be in the trash folder as the following number is dispayed:15000. however when i click on the folder, there are no files actually in the folder.
How do access my old emails, and move them, into the inbox or somewhere else, so they are visable?
I know its some thing to do with the POP relationship, but its annoying that i previously didnt have this problem with Mail, and now i suddenly do, post upgrade.

You can also log into hotmail in a browser and see if the 15000 are visible in the trash there. If they are there create a new folder to move them into it. Then set up Mail for IMAP.
Its a bit 20th century using POP and keeping your entire archive in Inbox which is at the mercy of any POP client. Use folders and IMAP.

Mac Mail - multiple hotmail accounts, only 1 works

In my Mac mail I have 2 separate Hotmail addresses identically set-up following the instructions widely available.
The 1 email works perfectly and the other fails to sync, it just times out. I captured the logs and the failing account does not even get by step 1 in attempting to reach the Hotmail server. Eventually it will just time out.
Ive tried resetting my Mac Mail, Redoing the accounts from scratch, but this problem persists itself.

Try deleting the account and adding it back.

Why can't I receive incoming mail for hotmail account?

I have just setup my hotmail account for iMac. I can sent out mail from this hotmail account, but I cannot receive incoming. My hotmail server is set to : incoming - pop3.live.com & outgoing - smtp.live.com.

I can send mail, just can't receive mail.
The server end of this mail is Exchange Server, but gmail or other POP account don't have this problem.
I use Connect Doctor to check, it shows OK for POP and SMTP.
Use IMAP to access this mail account, It works fine.
Is it the problem for NTLM authentication problem?

N97 sending mail through hotmail account

hi, ive read several thread regarding emails on n97 but nothing that would answer my question so i hope someone can help me out.
im having a trouble sending emails through my hotmail acount. i have no problem logging on to my account and receiving emails and reading them but when i click on "new message" to create one it come up as "there was an error while trying to do this. Please try again"
every time i take the phone into get it serviced outbox mail will work for a while but in a few hours dies again. ive got the phone changes few days ago so i dont think its the phone... maybe the programming...
ive called Nokia support centre and they told me i have to start a nokia messaging account (which i did) but the places im sending emails to blocks any emails unless its coming straight from my hotmail account.
any advice??

Try this, it will create a mailbox in messaging and work like your desktop, to refresh you need to hi-lite the mailbox then select options-sync email, use it on my N97 instaed of standard email

Using mail with hotmail accounts/university accounts..

I have a hotmail account and a university e-mail and was wondering if I would use those through mail? Because I know the only way to send things in pdf's from pages, lets say, is through mail.

You need to install a httpmail plugin for the Mail.app which adds the httpmail protocol and account type to choose from when creating the account which can be downloaded here.

My mail usually deletes my mail from hotmail account after I read the mail. I want to keep them in case I need them on my ipad. Who can I help me with this?

I got an iPad and an iPhone. I use their mail application daily basis. When I got my hotmail account, usually after I read the mail, an hour or sometime it's just gone. However it is still in the hotmail sever when I logged in my hotmail account on PC. I want them in my ipad or my iphone rather than I don't have to log in my hotmail account to check my email again via safari.

Do you receive a lot of mail on your Hotmail account?
Mail for iOS only defaults to 50 or 100 recent messages in the Inbox of each mail account. If you get a lot of mail, you may want to change that to 200, 500 or 1000 messages so they aren't removed from the device so quickly.
To change the setting, launch Settings then go to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and change the number of messages under the "Show" item.

Hi, I just started using mail. I like it, but I have a lot of folders in my hotmail account that are nicely arranged and have documents I like to refer to. Is there a way to bring these folders--the way I have them in my hotmail account into mail? Also, can I export my hotmail contact list to mail or address book? Finally, when I delete a message directly from mail is there a setting I can turn on so that it automatically deletes in my hotmail account as well? Thank You

No. hotmail provides POP access only. POP only provides access to inbox, not any other folders. this is a limitation of hotmail, not Mail. it would be the same in any other email client. if hotmail provided IMAP access you could get to all those mailboxes in Mail.

probably, but you have to check with hotmail. do they allow exporting address book contacts at all? if so you should be able to export them from hotmail and then import them into Address Book.

no. this is again a limitation of POP. you could do this with an IMAP account which syncs everything with the server so this would be automatic. if you want these features you might want to look into getting an IMAP account. gmail and AIM provide free IMAP accounts. mobileme is also IMAP but costs 100$ per year. but it offers many other features beside email too.

Push mail using hotmail account

Can anyone recommend a solution for pushmail using a hotmail account. Currently i have a izymail account forwarding my hotmail to a gmail account which then forwards to mobileme and pushes down to me, this is a temp solution until my mobileme trial expires. Would a hosted exchange account work with push and if so can i use my hotmail account with exchange. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, you can use your hotmail account, but the catch is that you have to purchase a yearly subscription to Hotmail Plus. I think the price is about 20 dollars. You also need to have a Windows Live ID. In your windows live account you can set up forwarding to any email account.

Mail with Hotmail account not working.

I use my Hotmail from the Mail app and days ago it requested me my password again so I typed it CORRECTLY and it doesnt logs in, it keeps saying me "The Hotmail POP server “pop3.live.com” rejected the password for user "[email protected]" "
I already tried logging in from the web page and it works perfectly fine with the same password.

you're password is too long, for some reason mail tends to do weird stuff if your password is too long, i had the same issue and changing the password to something shorter worked (using 10 characters now)

Mail problem: "The account ___ is in use on another device."

Sometimes when I launch Mail it says "The account _ is in use on another device" with the blank being my email address. This is not consistent but it seems to happen (or I notice it more) when I have not launch the app in a little while. The only other "device" that could be putting my account "in use," I suppose, is my iMac when it fetches mail periodically but I can't believe that this is the cause because I never experienced this with my iPhone 3G (3.1.3). Any ideas what is causing this?

I have the exact same problem, only my iphone 3Gs did it prior to the upgrade also. the strange thing is that it does seem to still get messages so they appear, only more slowly than what they appear on the mac book.

1) kann man in Apple Mail (aktuellste Lion-Version) hotmail auch als exchange account einfügen ?
Es erscheint immer die Fehlermeldung "Der Server meldet den Fehler: Die Verbindung zum Host „m.hotmail.com“ über Port 443 ist fehlgeschlagen." Ports im Router freigeben, andere Ports nutzen oder SSL ein-/ausschalten hat auch nichts an der Fehlermeldung geändert.
Hotmail als POP3 in Apple Mail geht. Allerdings ist dies absolut nicht zielführend, da auf dem iPhone über exchange gelesene mails dann in der Apple Mail wieder als ungelesen auftauchen.
2) Kann man hotmail auch über einen IMAP (account) einrichten, sodass dann ebenfalls alle Aktualisierungen vom Server in Apple Mail erhält (wie Mail Status gelesen ect)
3) Falls das alles nicht geht: Klappt hotmail-exchange evtl auf office-outlook for MAC ?

Short translation into english:
1) Apple Mail (on actual lion) is not connecting the hotmail server via exchange. Is hotmail exchange generally not possible ?
But it is working fine with POP3. Penalty is of course that with POP3 the mails are always unread although I read them before on my iPhone.
So POP3 cannot be the solution for Apple Mail vs hotmail-account !
2) Is it possible to activate hotmail on IMAP ?
3) Is hotmail exchange possible on MS outlook for MAC ?

My final question is now:
How can I sync effectively my hotmail account between MAC, Web and iDevices ?
Fact is that the iDevices are able to sync with the server by exchange (push).
Actually it looks like the Apple Mail (Lion or generally) is only be able to get the mails from the server by POP3.
Perhaps the hotmail is the root cause by not offering IMAP access. Perhaps OSX is blocking this IMAP access ?!
Fact is that Apple Mail cannot connect to the hotmail server in the "iDevices-way-of-connecting" via exchange or IMAP.
Further I found that also Outlook (on PC and MAC) is not working via IMAP with hotmail.
==> Is the only way to be updated on the MAC to go by Webaccess ?
Is there no possibility in Apple Mail or by other SW to get IMAP / exchange access to the hotmail-server ?!?!
