Mail Problems after reinstall

After a hard drive failure I installed a copy of 10.5.6 on a fresh new drive in a Power Mac G4. I copied all my files and settings from a Titanium Powerbook running 10.4.11. Everything is good except Mail. It opens but will not close. It refused to connect to my server (Note that the mail app on the powerbook works fine) and hangs at different points. I removed the imap account and it still will not close. There are a few empty folders in the viewer window that it. will not let me delete. I tried adding back the imap account but it when it tried to check the connection it just sat there spinning. It did not hang up, or time out.
How can I clean out the old mail stuff and start fresh?

I deleted the mail folder from library and the Mail.app. Then I copied the mail.app from my powerbook onto my Power Mac. At this point the Mail update would run and I am now fine.

E-Mail problem after server upgrade

I had my email on my phone for over a year. It worked perfect... until the office upgraded the server.
After the upgrade I get the error message "Cannot get mail" "The connection to the server failed." I can access another co-workers email on my phone with the same settings, but not my own.
I have tried deleting the exchange account and setting it up again, but that didn't work. I tried deleting it, rebooting the phone, and then setting it up again.
What doesn't make sense to me is that I can access someone else's email, but not my own. It is very frustrating. The people that use Android phones are having no problems after the server upgrade.
Any suggestions?

Sync problem after reinstalling windows

Last week I had Windows XP with the latest version of iTunes and my iPod could sync without any problems. But after I installed Windows 7, even if I have the same iTunes version, it won't sync anymore. I even tried a reset on the iPod and reinstalling iTunes, nothing works. I don't even get an error message. All it says is this:
The iPod 'Vicky' cannot be synced. An internal device error occured.
The iPod 'Vicky' cannot be synced. A folder was specified instead of a file.
The iPod 'Vicky' cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (0xE8004006).
The iPod 'Vicky' cannot be synced. There are too many files open currently.
Another one with a duplicate file, but I can't get it to appear right now.
It's always a different one. And sometimes iTunes even crashes and I have to reopen it.
What should I do?

Do you mean you checked *Manually manage music and videos* when the iPhone is selected? This is completely sepearate from managing yoru library. This allows you to manually manage the content on the iPhone.

So you have already reinstalled Windows?
If so, you cannot backup anything that is not there since you you already erased it when you reinstalled Windows.
BEFORE you reinstall Windows, you need to Deauthorize iTunes and backup /Music/iTunes/folder and all your media.

I am having mail problems after installing Mountain Lion

The mail doesn't work properly and the cursor freezes up and I get the color wheel whenever I start typing and have to wait for it to catch up. All this started after downloading the wonderful upgrade Mountain Lion. Is there a way to go back. I was happier then.

I habve exactly the same problem with my wireless Deskjet F4500. I have done the following with no results:
Installed Mountain Lion update
Printer cannot communicate wirelessly (blue light blinks)
Uninstalled HP Software
Reinstalled software using usb cable, otherwise printer not recognized.
Software successfully installed
Ran software update
New HP Software installed 2.9
Printer still connected with usb cable and is recognized in Printer preferences as idle
Box checked to configure device for wireless network
Directed to use usb cable to configure (it already is)
clicked continue
Hp Installer determines that computer is connected to a wireless network
correct net name indicated
wep password entered
looking for network
Get the following message:
Device not connected
To configure the network settings of the selected device, please connect it temporarily via usb. The device can be disconnected from the usb once the network setting are transferred
click okay, but cannot continue because printer is already connected by usb.
Ran wireless net test by pressing scan button
No filtering FAILS
I can print using USB cable
Can anybody out there help Graciegirl and I?

Mail problems after upgrade

I've just upgraded my OS from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6. (PowerPC G4, dual 867 MHz). Everything seems OK except Mail. It show my mailboxes, but no mail in any. "Get Mail" doesn't work. I've checked account settings--they're correct. Connection Doctor indicates all the connections and logins to the servers were successful. But the Activity Monitor shows spinning poles and says, "Connecting to server. ." or "Gathering children fro disk for local account," and doesn't change. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Strange Mail problems after Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update

All of a sudden, Mail has started behaving strangely on me and I believe this could be caused by the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update that hasn't been released yet. Whenever I create a new message and click "Send", instead of sending the message, Mail turns it upside down and starts filling my desktop with copies of any attachments included in the message.
Another problem is that all incoming messages seem to disappear just after being received. After several hours looking for them everywhere, I've finally been able to find some of them under my keyboard, but I don't know how to put them back in the Inbox, nor do I know where the rest could be located.
I've found a rule in Preferences set up to move all incoming mail that arrives before it was sent into a custom mailbox folder named "Time Traveling", but the missing messages aren't there either. Also, I don't remember ever having created that mailbox folder nor the associated rule. Could it have been created by a virus in a message I haven't received yet?

Ken, sorry to hear what happened to you.
My post was just an April 1st joke. When I posted it, I had no idea when Mac OS X 10.4.6 would be released. If you look at it, you'll see that nothing in my post makes any sense (it requires a little sense of humor which, given your situation, you might not have at this moment).
Now, Mac OS X 10.4.6 has become a reality. Posting in this thread about real problems could cause confusion and reduce the likelihood of getting help, so I suggest you start a new thread instead. Maybe a forums Host should lock the thread?

E 72 GPS and E-mail problem after firmware upgrade...

Hi - to all the gurus out there,
1. i upgraded my firmware to 31.023. Now My GPS (whether using Ovi Maps or Google Maps) locks only at home ( probably the place of my last GPS lock before the upgrade- my guess). Tried many times but it simply refuses to lock anywhere else.-- annoying - someone help please
2. The mail client has become unbearably slow and doesnt update using 3G or GPRS anymore. I checked all access points selections and everything else in settings. In fact except for WLAN, its become a `Non e-mail capable` phone.
3. Skype only lets me IM now??????? weird!!
4.Snaptu only logs in on WLAN.
5. and last but not the least.. in the chat setup. the keyboard doesnt work anymore.

Ok, Now the GPS seems to have resolved itself after I deselected `Network Assisted`, but initial lock time seems much longer. Maybe that was the problem.

Acrobat XI Pro problems after reinstall by Time machine

Hi,
After my reinstall by Time Machine, Acrobat didn't start. So I deinstalled it but in CSS app the application was not possible to install/. Got the message that the app is running and already installed. So I manual put just the application file back in the application folder. Now Acrobat runs but i get the massage:

Itunes startup problems after reinstalling.

Hi after recently deleting quicktime from my cpu in a moment of stupidity my itunes would no longer start up. To fix this I re-installed itunes from scratch, however now when i try to start the program I get this message "This application has failed to start becuase AVfoundationCF.dll was not found. RE- installing the application may fix this problem" followed by "itunes was not installed correctly please reinstall, Error7 (windows error126) . can anyone help me with this problem please. Should I try and re-install it all over again or something idk ; /. Thanks xx

I haven't seen one of those mentioning an AppleApplicationSupport.msi for a while.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Application Support entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

[SOLVED] some problems after reinstalling all packages

Hi all,
I had to reinstall everthing on the computer via
pacman -S $(pacman -Qnq)
then I move a few files back to their original place such as
/etc/shadow and /etc/passwd
now i'm having various problems
1) I can't run
systemctl
as a normal user anymore; I have to sudo into it. I get this error message:
Failed to get D-Bus connection: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
2) libreoffice wont run from my regular user account. I get this error message:
The application cannot be started. User installation could not be completed
I tried uninstalling then reinstalling libreoffice. Didn't fix it.
Any ideas?

Safari and Mail problem after Upgrade safari 5.1.2

After I did The Apple upgrade for safari , Mail and safari doesn't work anymore.
Safari is always charging the start page but it never work and when I try to make a research it bugg.
And for the Mail , I cannot receive and send mail( RSS problem).
Before the Upgrade these two programs were working.
Ps: For internet I download Mozilla and it work but i prefer use safari so if you have a solution it will be great.

No message from safari , exept when I force to quit I have a problem report but i don't understand it , if you want it (it very long).
My Mac it not old it just have 1 month and I have a second problem , with the batery the green light appears and my mac don't charge anymore but it is not charge at 100% it block a 20% for example after the green light appear and after it charge like 5 or 10 % and green light reappear ..

Windows start up problem after reinstalling

hello, i'm this problem with my computer afer reinstalling windows my system is really in bad shape now.vi can succesfully install windows but everytime the bootscreen stop and monitor turns to black my computer restarts again. and it just keeps doing that. i even tried to use 3 different memory ram because i thought that was the problem but that didn't solve my problem. i also cleared cmos but no luck either. and now i ran out of solutions. but there's one time that it got through to desktop screen and after installing all drivers and restarted the computer the same problem happens again,. can someone has a good advice for me??

Mail problems after upgrading to Leopard 10.5.6

To day I upgraded my daughter's MacBook to Leopard 10.5.6 (from about 10.3 ?)
During the install the only problem was at the very end, the configuration wizard failed to make connection with the internet because Airport had lost the password for my wireless router. Once this had been reinserted we had instant internet connection, but by then I had closed the wizard.
Everything else went well except for Mail, the most important application!
When you click on Mail in the docking area it appears in the bar at the top of the screen but no window opens. To get one open we had to click on file> new viewer window. But this window was blank. Clicking on get new mail did nothing. No emails of any kind were visible. Checking the account details showed that they had transferred correctly, and the diagnostic window showed that it was connecting to the server and logging into the IMAP mail account OK.
Rebooting the Mac did not help.
The Mail program has to be forced to shut down, it won't exit gracefully.
I could not get it to send a message either, click "send" and it just sat there spinning its wheels.
At no point did we get any error messages.
We took a backup of the entire system to an external USB drive before the upgrade and all the files associated with Mail appear to be in the same place as before. There still seem to be hundreds of emails on file, we just can't see them. Clicking on one of there email files does nothing.
Is this a known problem? Is there some new feature of Mail we are not using? Has Mail failed to upgrade correctly? Any ideas how to fix this?
I've just found a note on theappleblog.com that suggests that Mailbox > Rebuild will solve this problem, but on this machine "Rebuild" is greyed out.

Please note that this upgrade related problem would very likely be what has been covered by the support document at the link below:

If you also find any files named to include MessageSorting (which would mean you once have upgraded from a version of OSX earlier than 10.4, which is clearly the case for you), remove those, also, but never restore those.
Often this is all that needs to be done, but you might then need to force an overall reindexing via the removal of the Envelope Index. Note the special instructions when forcing the reindexing of IMAP or Exchange accounts in the following:

This will force the reindexing of all the POP mailboxes and all On My Mac mailboxes. With regard to any IMAP accounts if you have any, the practical result of this action of removing the account folder, is that with the IMAP account still set up in the Preferences, Mail will connect to the IMAP server and create a new account folder, and while doing so will index the messages in the mailbox folders of the IMAP accounts on the server.

Quit server admin and edit /etc/postfix/main.cf with a text editor (not Word)
change:

to:

Save and issue:
<pre class=command>sudo postfix reload</pre>
(The cause of your problem was a duplicate entry.
Also, even though not part of your problem, ordb.org doesn't exist anymore and sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org will be discontinued and replaced by zen.spamhaus.org, so while you are at it....)

Mail problem after a Rebuild with an Exchange server.

I've got a very bad idea to rebuild my exchage account in Mail (7.0) app. I've lost all the messages stored in my inbox sub-folders and all my sent items.
Luckly the message are still into the server (checked with OWA access).
After Googling a lot i've moved all my In-box subfolder into a new one and now I'm able to see all messages again. However, this workaround not works in "Sent" folder (I could not rename or move it). Could anyone help me on this?
Another bad issue is that I've to keep at least 2 subfolder in the inbox. Mail app won't show only 1 subfolder

With the last update of Mail (relased today) I'm still have the same issues
