Mail program for business purposes - what is the best one?

I own a business that runs out of my house. Its very email intensive. I probably send/receive about 400 msgs a day. I need something that is similar to Outlook. I have entourage but Im just not happy with it. Is there a better mail program I should consider? Would Mail be okay for me or is it too bare bones? Thanks
Sam

Hello Sam.
Entourage is most similar to Outlook and I'm not aware of another OS X email client that comes as close in comparison.
Although some may consider Mail to be too bare bones, it really depends on your needs and intended use. I've always used Outlook at work and I consider Outlook the definition of a bloated application which is typical for MS that includes more features and options that the majority of users will never need or use.
The number of messages sent and received on a daily basis is irrelevant IMO. Give Mail a try/test for about a month or so. You can import all mailboxes/messages from Entourage to Mail and you can import Entourage address book contacts to the Apple Address Book or use the Entourage sync function.

    Using Microsoft Exchange to access Gmail (Google Apps for Business) contacts, what is the best way to sync the Corporate Directory? For instance, we have 40 staff members and wish to populate each phone with the Gmail profile. Right now we have a third party Android app that does this and copies my contacts to each phone. This is problematic. Any solutions to populate a phone with email and phone contacts? Even it it requires double entry for me...thats ok.

    Oh, I meant Leopard does do more than Tiger Server.
    I don't know enough about Server, even less abut Syncing.
    SL is to new, not enough time to iron out the kinks yet imho.
    One day SL will be better than Leo, but...
    I'd ask over in server...

    I would like to create pages for our yearbook what is the best software - pages does seem limited.

    Keynote...it could make a book, but it's probably questionable whether you'd want to manage hundreds of pictures and lots of pages with it.
    Why is that questionable?
    Because Keynote does not have the industrial-strength tools to handle long form text and large numbers of graphics. When you make a long or complex document, you sometimes have to go in and fix problems in bulk, like text formatting, or updating graphics, or finessing the layout on 200 pages, things like that. A program like InDesign can deal with it through things like paragraph styles, character styles, table styles (not one-off styles, but the kind that let you update a style name and have all text that uses that style update across all pages), or a powerful link manager that lets you keep graphics outside the document so you can easily update them by reference, in bulk if needed. InDesign also has some great tools like the ability to import multiple photos at once and have them place on the layout as a nice yearbook-style grid, the instant they land on the page, without having to arrange them after they come in.
    Finally, an app like InDesign knows how to print to a commercial press, or how to produce a press-ready PDF. Keynote has no idea.
    A yearbook can run a couple hundred pages and involve hundreds of photos. I would not touch such a project with anything that wasn't truly up to the task. The best software would be InDesign or QuarkXPress. Word is not good enough. Pages is not good enough. You will tear your hair out as you fix problems on page after page, photo after photo. Keynote would probably be laughable for a yearbook. I use Keynote for presentations, Keynote is the best at what it does. A yearbook is nothing like a presentation.

  • Sometimes my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I am running a pretty powerful work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network, is it a hard drive issue? do I need to "clean out" the computer?

    Many times my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I have wireless internet (time capsule) and I am running a pretty powerful real time financial work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network? is it a hard drive issue? do I only need to "clean out" the computer? Or all of the above...not to computer saavy.  It is a Macbook Pro  osx 10.6.8 (late 2010).

    Almost certainly none of the above!  Try each of the following in this order:
    Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
    Close down Safari;  move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
    Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
    Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:
              defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false

    I'd just like to say that ahs70's post on Dec 1, 2013 at 1:17am on Pg. 9 worked for me as well: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5338609?start=120&tstart=0
    If your iPhone's battery is acting up you need to determine if it's a software issue or a hardware/battery issue.  To do that, after syncing your iPhone, erase/hard reset all data and settings from your iPhone to what it was from the factory as new.  This can be found in Settings/General/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings.  Then test it out for a day or two.  If it's still acting up then it's likely a hardware issue and you will need to get your battery replaced.  If your warranty is done than check out this link to get a battery kit to replace your iPhone battery yourself:  http://www.ifixit.com/Store/iPhone/iPhone-5-Replacement-Battery/IF118-001#produc tDescription
    If your iPhone is now working properly after hard resetting it than it's most likely a software issue.  This battery issue only started after upgrading to the new iOs7, so it is obviously related to the update not properly installing itself.  What has worked for me and many others is to manually update to iOS 7.0.4 using the full downloaded version of the update which is about 1.32 Gigs.
    But first you need to find out what model of iPhone you have, click here to determine if it's GSM or CDMA: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Then go here and scroll down to download the iOS 7.0.4 complete update for your device:  http://www.downloadios7.org/download-ios-7-0-4-ipsw-file.html
    Then scroll up on the download page and follow the instructions of updating your iPhone manually following the instructions below:  "IPSW with iTunes"
    And your done.
    Problem solved.
    I only posted this because it was a very frustrating problem that no one really seemed to figure out a solution for.
    I hope this helps.

  • For optimal sound, what is the best way to connect an iMac to a high end stereo system?

    If the answer is wired rather than through an Airport Express, what is the best way to wire an iMac to a good stereo? Is there any way to do it other than through the headphones out jack?

    Morning Acousticare,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Thunderbolt cables should not exceed three meters for maximum performance. The Apple Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (2.0 m) is two meters in length.
    For more information on this, take a look at this article:

  • Idea for Chat Socket (whats the best maner to send model class?)

    I Hava a server/client chat socket. Multitreading to recieve multi-conections. I have a model style class, like a Message, that you send this class for exemplo from Client to Server.
    Message Class
    * name as String
    * msg as String
    I used ObjectStreams like ObjectOuputStream and ObjectInputStream to send and receive this object liked. But I need to serialize this model class to send it. Is the best maner to use Object Strams, or have another easy solution to send this class model??
    I demand ideas!
    Thanks all!

    If you are communicating serializable objects between Java clients then sure, ObjectOutputStream & ObjectInputStream are a pretty easy way of doing that.
    One downside is that OOS & OIS are difficult to use in non-Java programs. If you want interoperability with other languages you might communicate using e.g. CORBA, XML, or a protocol of your own design. Those require a bit more work and learning though.

  • Trouble emailing photos from Aperture and iPhoto, recurrent message about severs and passwords. I use gmail, but system insists on defaulting to Apple mail. I haven't used the Apple mail program for years. What's up? Thanks

    I cannot get either Aperture or iPhoto to email jpegs. I use gmail but there seems to be a problem with server selection or identification and passwords that I cannot figure out. Please note that I am not particularly competent technologically, so please use baby steps in your explanation.

    Helps if you tell us the exact error message you get but you
    1. Need to select your preferred method of emailing  (Mail, iPhoto, Aperture, whatever) in the Preferenes
    2. If you're getting password not recognised messages, then delete your account from whatever email method you are using and re enter it.

  • Use Skype for a business. What is the best way to ...

    We have a new business that is starting and a lot of the work will be done by people in different parts of the United States. We would like to have incoming calls be to 1 number, and have them be able to select whom or which department they need. If a calling tree is not available not a big problem.
    We also would like to have control of the skype account so it can be assigned, and if then reassigned based on personnel change. We are unsure of how you control this or if it can be controlled. We are assuming that would could simply change a password and then someone new could use it. We know that on a personal account the user would be able to take control as they can see the account info and change the primary email and reset the password. Unable to find anything out about a business account.
    We would like to set up each account on a subcription, that has a number and unlimited calling in the US and voicemail.
    Would love to be able to talk to any business person that has used skype on a business level so we know what it can do well, and what it can't do at all.
    Thank You,
    Kevin

    If you have an SSD you can run the cache and programs on the same drive.  However, many recommend a scratch disk size of 100-200 gigs so that will not work here unless you opt for a larger SSD.  Otherwise an internal spinner is recommended that does not contain the program files, or idealy any other files that may want to get acessed at same time (only one read/write head per drive).
    With 32 gig of RAM you may not need the constant use of the scratch drive unless working on large images with lots of layers.  So see no advantage to moving folder to SSD for temp work environment.
    From what I read the new crop of SSD do not have the wear problems of the older versions.

  • I have a 2009 macbook pro 13" and want to make videos what is the best one for this mac A1278

    what is a good video editor for my 2009 macbook pro 13"?

    I don't see any DDR3L on the page for the RAM that would fit your model -> http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM.
    But the answer is that it doesn't really matter - just make certain to get 1333MHz.

  • Java program with return value, what is the best way?

    I was thinking something like this:
    public class A {
    public static int intMain(String... argv) {
    ///real program here
    public static void main(String... argv) {
    System.exit(intMain(argv));
    But System.exit does not await user threads and I use a library which creates threads where I do not have control.
    Is there a way to await every user thread without explicitly knowing them?

    I just want to return a value to the OS... zero in case of normal quit, non-zero in case of abnormal termination. I do not see anything complex in that. Actually it I think is crazy that Java mains are only void.
    About threads I use rabbitmq and it uses threads for its messaging. I noticed the problem because if I forget to correctly close rabbitmq objects the ``void main'' does not terminate while the ``int main'' does since system.exit does not wait.
    At the moment the question is more about curiosity, really there is no simple way to say ``await all users threads''?

    Copy the /Home/Music/iTunes/ folder to an external drive. Connect the drive to the new computer and transfer the iTunes folder into the /Home/Music/ folder on the new computer.
