Mail proxy in OSX

My exchange mail server provider has given me all the login credentials to access muy emails. However one thing they listed as well as the mail server is a proxy server. I obviously have to access the exchange server through the proxy.  In Outlook on the PC this is simply inserted in the outlook settings. However I cannot find it in Outlook 2011 for Mac. I also cannot find a way of doing this for the mail app.
Obviously there are the proxy settings under sytem preferences but I don't want all traffic going through their proxy server, simply my email connection.
The Outlook help gives the following (not so useful) help response:
"Ask your Microsoft Exchange account administrator to tell you which proxy server to use to connect to the Microsoft Exchange server. For information about how to configure a connection to a proxy server, see Mac OS Help."
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Howd00

...Obviously if it will work for Entourage it ought to work for Outlook 2011.
Outlook 2011 is a complete rewrite.  It's not an "update" to Entourage.  (Which IMHO is a good thing for various reasons. )  So it wouldn't surprise me if a feature like this is different.
Also, I think Outlook 2011 dropped support for Exchange 2003, since like OSX Mail, they use the Exchange Web Services protocol, introduced with Exchange 2007.  Entourage (and iOS devices) didn't use EWS which is why Entourage works with Exchange 2003.  And Exchange 2007 introduced the Client Access Server roles, which seems to have taken over some of what Exchange Proxies were doing.
I'm suspecting that Easyspace may still be on Exchange 2003, or if they are on Exchange 2007 or 2010, they left the old proxy servers in place and haven't upgraded the front-end or DMZ servers to the new Exchange roles.  The statement that their servers do work with Entourage give some evidence of this.  In any case, they don't seem to be "Mac friendly."  If they were, they'd be on Exchange 2007 and have more info for Mac users, instead of pointing you back to Microsoft.  And they'd realize that unlike Windows users, where you "need" to give them a copy of Outlook 2007, OSX's apps have built-in support for Exchange 2007/2010 so Easyspace wouldn't have to spend aany addtional money on the Outlook licenes like they have to with the Windows customers.  (How can they not like more profit? )

  • Mail Proxy: Emails got stuck in Outgoing directory

    Hi
We have a BM3.9SP1 on NW6.5SP7 configured as a HTTP Proxy, Transparent Proxy and inbound Mail Proxy.
But we have a lot of email stucked in the Outgoing Directory(7000 files) and I don't know why.
The BM has only one network card defined asa public/private and it is behind a firewall.
How can I find out what is the problem ?
The Mail volume is a traditional one, because whe had some issues in the past with nss volumes.
If we rename the outgoing directory and the proxy will recreate it we can copy back the files to see if they are going out ?
And why are the files in the Outgoing directory and not in the Incomming as we only use is for the Incomming emails ?
    Thanks.
    Viki

    1. without seeing the abend, i'd suggest to go to bm39sp2 and bm39sp2_ir1.
    2. Unload proxy, start taking a lan trace on bm using pktscan, load
proxy. Mail proxy will try to deliver the mail. Lan trace will show the
conversation, if any, with the internal mail daemon
    3. if mail has never worked, it could be a configuration issue as well

Deleted the envelope index file and restarted NO-GO
    What can I try more?

Boot with your install disc, reinstall SL, and then run Software Update. Once up and running, you need to have a discussion with the GF about privacy and trust issues.

Is it possible to write in superscript or subscript in mac mail since the OSX Mavericks update? At the moment I have to copy and paste from Pages!

I tried to figure this out myself and couldn't believe there wasn't a simple menu item to get this done.  Seems there was in pre-Mavericks but not in Mavericks.   Found several answers but they all reply to before Mavercks.
This is helpful and yet I'm left with "Wow!  Apple really can make simple things difficult.  Who would have guessed."

  • Mail proxy send problem

We have a BM 3.8 SP5 server that is doing mail proxy for a GroupWise 7 SP3 server. Yesterday, after a BM server reboot, we can only send to a limited number of domains. Most mail sent out comes back as
Undelivered mail : Unknown user: ..............
I tried a different DNS server address on the BM server, but that didn't seem to make any difference.
Also, I should mention that the BM server seems to hang for several minutes when trying to load brdsrv.nlm on restarts.
I am not the one that originally set this up and I am not sure why we are using mail proxy as we have several free public IPs.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Don't use Mail Proxy then!
For inbound, set up static NAT and filter exceptions. Turn off Mail
Proxy. For outbound, be sure GWIA is not using a relay agent, so it
    will use nat/filter exceptions.

  • HT1338 Solutions to Mail problems in OSx 10.8.4?

Since installing OSx 10.8.4 I have been experiencing problems using the Mail client in the normal manner.
    1) Screen freezes at odd times when preparing new emails. Cursor seems to lock-up, and will not clear or restart with any conventional soft controls via the keyboard.
    2) This problem with Mail also seems to directly affect overall Mac performance. It makes the screen go Black, although the Mac is still working in every other sense.  It also makes the Mac crash for no apparent reason - but only when Mail is live on the Dock!
    3) When Mail is not on the Dock, NONE OF THIS HAPPENS, and the Mac works 100% ok in every respect in an ongoing normal manner.
    4) When I reinstall Mail on the Doc
Question is - Has anyone else experiencing this or similar problems?  Has this been investigated or is it being worked on by Apple?
Await any and all responses with great interest - especially from experts at Apple.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Error Message re: Mail Version with OSX Version & Mail Won't Open

I have not upgraded my OS and have been with 10.6.8 (on iMac Intel 3.06 GHz) since it came out without any issues.  However today, after using sofware update to install: Java for Mac OSX 10.6 Update 10 and Security Update 2012-004 (which I can't see how they would relate), I went to open Mail and got the following error message:
You can't use this version of Mail with this versio of Mac OS X
You tried to open Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085) in : /Applications/Internet/Mail.app (which is where I have had it forever)
it can't be used on this version of Mac OS X. Try opening the version of Mail located in the Applications for on your computer. For more information, click the Help button (which it stated upon clicking that it could not be accessed).
Also, though I don't think this could be related - for about a month now, iTunes keeps asking me to enter my password (apparently not recognizing that i never logged out) - however if I just dismiss the request 2-3 times I can look in the menu and the log out option is available - weird.
I see others have intermittently had this problem and as I said I have not added or upgraded any software and I am not using iCloud. I performed disk repair and permissions, cache cleaning, corrupt preference files etc, using Applejack but it did not resolve the issue.  Any help would be greatly appreciated - while I can get to my mail through other avenues it's not nearly as convenient. Thanks.

Resolved. Found another thread - had to move my Mail App back into the Applications folder and then re-apply Security update.

  • Mail Setup at OSX Server issues

I have several devices (iPad, iPhone, Desktop and Laptop) that access my email accounts (Personal-POP and Business-IMAP accounts) without any issues.
I'd like to use my Mac Mini OSX Server as a main client to all these emails account and collect emails and distribute it at my local network.
Is it possible? I'd like to use all resources from my ISP that can handle with virus, security ... but at the same time I'd like to keep local at this OSX Server all messages that we usually send and receive when we are using local network at office. I read manual several times but is not clear for me if this feature is available.
    All suggestions will be welcome.
    Edison

OS X Server and most mail servers do not include the ability to collect mail from remote servers, though it is possible to build a somewhat precarious scheme  based on forwarding messages from the remote servers involved. Google's mail service and its gmail client do have the ability to retrieve mail from other remote mail servers without resorting to forwarding mail around, but you'd need to integrate something like imapsync or fetchmail to perform this on OS X Server.  (Related — my old replies to related questions here in the forums will often mention imapsync, as well.)
In general when running a mail server that's accessible to the Internet, you'll need DNS and also static (fixed) IP from your provider for OS X Server and this is the preferred and most reliable means, this if if you want to send outbound mail through the server, or you'll need to relay your inbound and outbound mail through one of the relay services providers.  Static IP and proper DNS can also be a factor when receiving mail from some of the more cautious mail servers around.  Failing to have IP and DNS correct mails mail sent from your server can be dropped, and sometimes mail sent to your server will be dropped before being passed to your server.
OS X Server does include some spam- and malware-related capabilities and various Postfix, Amavis, ClamAV and related pieces to keep a lid on most typical spam shenanigans, though you might want additional services or the replacement of the OS X Server mail server with the mail package from Kerio.

  • Firefox crashes, even in safe mode, when I try to add attachments in Yahoo mail -- running Mac OSX 10.4.11, FF 3.6.16.

Firefox has consistently crashed when adding attachments in Yahoo mail. For a while Firefox would crash immediately when I clicked "attach." Then, for a while it would allow me to upload files if they were located in a folder that the Yahoo mail application opened when I clicked "attach," but if I tried to navigate to a different folder, I would crash when I clicked on the root user folder. I then updated Flash and tried Firefox in safe mode, and now Firefox (in safe mode or not) is again crashing as soon as I click attach in Yahoo mail. My system is as above, Mac OSX Tiger (10.4.11) on an original Mac Pro, all stock parts (I had added some aftermarket RAM but removed it some time ago, before these crashes started). Firefox does NOT generate a crash report dialog when I restart.

can't make much of this crash log but try this. when you get to the smtp server page in setup assistant hold option while clicking "create" or 'continue". this will skip the actual server validation and might prevent crashing.

    Hi Anuj,
    Sorry for the late reply.
we are using Microsoft 2007 exchange server.
just summarizing the issue one more time.
we have noticed we are facing few error messages in our OSB Log
    Can not load header.
error encounter while processing the inbox.
    no content.
We have noticed that in our proxy service move the mail to move folder, but we found there was two mail of same copy in move folder, it means two times the same mail has processed. and in second attempt this error message came.
Can you help me to understand what the scenario can happen behind this.
    Regards,

    * Must run on OSx 10.4.10+ Intel C2D - (Yes I'm aware of Windoze based options to say re-export PST to CSV/Tab delim formats etc as interim stage - unfortunately this is not currently a feasable option)
    * Must be importable into either Tiger OSx Mail V 2.1.1 (752.3) or MS Entourage 2004 V 11.3.6 (070618)
    * Must retain original attachments.
    * Must successfully work on MS Office 2000 Outlook produced (pst) files.
So far my searches of similar archived requests (here and elsewhere) appear to offer inconclusive (or non feasable) solutions. eg Assuming that OL2000(Win) pst format is identical to OL2001(Mac) pst format etc etc.
I don't mind paying for utility if it works!

With 10.3 server and 200 Server, you're, well, running some older stuff there. The 2000 server is a Master Domain Controller - that means it is the head server on the windows domain. I's probably the only server as well, yes? In any event, that means the windows clients rely on it for just about everything, most likely.
I could go on a bit here, but here's the quick answer.
There's a good article about integrating AD (windows server) and OD (Mac servers) here
    http://www.afp548.com/filemgmt/visit.php?lid=12
Adding an excahnge server into the mix, meaning you're administering an email server, is a whole 'nother story. Added to the fact that you're using old software, and presumably old hardware makes it more difficult to hire a consultant. Consultants want to leave you knowing that they have installed a stable and secure setup. That's hard to do with 2K server and 10.3 server.
If this is a business that relies on servers you may wish to consider a new server, whether it be Apple or Windows, and hire a consultant to set it up. Email servers are an entirely different beast requiring extra care, feeding, and backup. Places like http://www.swishmail.com provide reliable email at way less costs and with very little aggravation, and no maintenance for small to medium companies.
Discussions are a great place for - can you send me a link to get started, or I've done this, this, this and that, and now I'm stuck - what did I miss?
You're asking for a lot more than that, and it would be difficult for anyone to give you a good answer.

  • How do I Import Mail Contacts from MS Outlook to Mac Mail? MacMini OSX 10.9 Mavericks

Hi I am using OSX 10.9 Mavericks.  I have been trying to export my People Contcts list from MS Outlook to Mac Mail, can anyone help? Thanks

    Ed,
the simplest solution is to convert your Outlook PST file to standard mbox files using Thunderbird - TB on the PC imports Outlook data just fine and - unlike the other proposed solution - is free. When you install TB on your PC for the first time, it will ask you to import your Outlook data.
Once you have all your mail messages in mbox format, you can import them into Mail. However, instead of using Mail's "Import" feature to do so, I would propose you use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner for this - the program can also import TB mailboxes to Apple Mail and will preserve all your message status flags (read, replied, ...):
