Mail quit when adding an exchange account

I can't configure an exchange account on 10.9.4, Mail quit everytime.
Same thing when using the internet account system preference.
A message appears about a sub-window preference problem.
I've added this account on 10.8.4 and on my iPad without any problem.

  • "The Connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable" when adding second Exchange account to Outlook 2013

I have a problem that I've found to be typical, just haven't found anything that describes my exact problem.
I'm having trouble adding a second Exchange 2010 server account to Outlook 2013 in one of the computers of the domain. Outlook 2013 will complain with "The Connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete
    this action".
I've Googled and found many threads with the same error... however most of those seem to be either a problem with the server, or the Global Catalog in Active Directory, or the "connection method" (I've tried all found solutions to no avail).
This is not the case, since the first account is added with absolutely no problem. It can send and receive and I can delete the outlook profile and recreate it and it'll give no problems. I have this problem only when adding a second account.
This is a fresh Windows 8.1 install with an up-to-date Outlook 2013. I have other computers in the same domain and network, with the same setup (Win 8.1 + Outlook 2013) configured with two exchange accounts with no problem.
There are no connectivity problems, I can access that same account through OWA and in other computers on the network... the Global Catalog seems to be fine (shows two active DCs, which is correct).
I've tried deleting and recreating the outlook profiles, repairing the outlook installation, even deleting all outlook files in AppData and letting it recreate them, with no success.
Any hints of what could be going on?
Before I speak, I have something important to say.

    Hi Javier,
    Thank you for the update.
I have tested on my lab and get following result.
Lab: Exchange 2010, CAS Array (CAS01+CAS02), MBX01, DC
    Type Server Field
    Check name result
    Changed Server Field
    CAS01.domain.com
    Yes
    CASArray.domain.com
    CASArray.domain.com
    Yes
    CASArray.domain.com
    DC.domain.com
    Yes
    CASArray.domain.com
    MBX01.domain.com
    No
"The Connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable"
Based on my knowledge, the reason why inputing DC FQDN in the Server Field fixes this issue is that Outlook performs AD Lookup and finds the account configuration from AD, then back the CAS Array FQDN in the Server Field  instead of DC FQDN.
Exchange 2010 is different from Exchange 2013, if you are using Exchange 2013, we need to input MailboxServerGUID.domain.com into Server Field.
If there is anything I’ve misunderstood, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Thanks,
    Steve Fan

  • Google added as Exchange Account (mail, contacts, cal), issues with contact #'s resolving to Names.

Google added as exchange account (mail, contacts, calendar), all works except contact correlation. Meaning somebody calls me, it's in the contact list but does not show name just the #. Same for outbound calls..search contacts, tap #, phone shows I'm dialing # versus contact name. This is completely goofy. I had a previous emplorers Exchange account working perfectly before I had to delete it. I removed all email accounts from iPhone and started fresh with adding Google as Exchange 'type' account.

Ok I fixed this problem. Within Google under contacts I had imported 1,200+ contacts and they all showed up there, on my iPad and iPhone. But on the phone name and # would not correlate. I discovered that by editing a contact (within Google contacts page) it would mark it as 'My Contacts' in addition to being Imported on xx/xx/xx. Once I did this, magically my iphone call log would display the name of the contact I edited/reclassified as 'My Contacts'. So I reclassified all the contacts as 'My Contacts' and now have full functionality. End of **** story and hope this helps somebody else.

  • IMovie quits when adding titles

iMovie (9.0.8) quits when adding titles (and sometimes just randomly although it seems to be related to adding titles).
I have repaired permissions and deleted com.apple.iMovieApp.plist from library to no avail.
It is not related to a corrupt project as it happens to all my current projects.

    Hi
I doubt - BUG - I guess corrupted iMovie pref file (to get this You only need to Force/Panic Halt the program and errors are entered in it)
    See if this helps
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • Mail quits when launching

    Hi,
I cannot launch Mail. I just get a message saying mail has unexpectedly quit. Any ideas? I think I saw something about this a while ago on the FAQ's pages but can't find it now. I'm running mail on OS 10.2.
    Thanks for any help.

I'm having the same exact problem. (See Mail 2.0.5 crashes when I get new mail). I deleted my preferences & my junk mail settings, to no avail.
A remarkable number of other people are posting with similar problems, just in the past week or so alone, and as far as I can tell, no one has figured it out. There is definitely a bug here. I have a hunch that it may be related to a recent software update. I'm going to post this to the other threads in hopes of garnering some attention from Apple.
For posterity's sake, I am connecting to a Gmail account, a POP account, and a .Mac account.

  • After last security update, Mail quits when trying to save and attach

Software Update installed the last security update.
Ever since, Mail quits when I try to save a message, save an attachment, copy a message and attach a file.
These are the only problems that Update caused.
Might it have to do with Java?
If so, which files must I erase so that I can re-install Java Release 6?
    What do I do?

Sheila, I'd try these two steps first, then maybe reapply the last update by downloading it from apple downloads instead of SW Update...

  • HT202375 Why do tasks reorder spontaneously in reminders app when synced to exchange account?

Why do tasks reorder spontaneously in reminders app when synced to exchange account?  OS X and iOS are affected.

This describes my problem almost perfectly.
Same here: I try to move an item to another list and whenever I select the target-list, it is more or less a lottery whether the task has landed on the correct list or not.
Since I wanted to build a GTD system with Reminders, I think I will skip this software. "Trusted System" has a different meaning.
    Cheers,

  • Mail Crashing when adding exchange 2007 account with SL

I tried adding my work exchange to my mail which I currently have gmail and mobileme configured. I enter my info and credentials, accept the certificate (unsigned), and mail crashes immediately.
I tried moving out the plist and /Library/Mail folded to start from scratch, but I get the same result.
This did work with my exchange account on another machine (my Mac Pro) with the last beta. I have not had a chance to upgrade it yet. Anyone else have similar problems? Any other ideas to try?

I was able to figure out a work around. In order to get out of the automatic discovery of my mail server information, I started over at the new account wizard and put in a bogus email domain. Since the wizard did not recognize it, it prompted me to enter the server type and the rest of the settings. Once I entered them manually I was able to add the account. Hopefully there will be a forthcoming permanent fix somewhere down the road.

  • Mail crashing when adding new account

When I first bought the iMac with Snow Leopard in December I added my .me account and my Verizon account. I took off the Verizon account in January as I had it on my laptop. Now I want to add it back into mail and when I am almost finished it crashes. I have tried some of my own fixes, restarting, disc utility but to no avail. I saw some others had same problem, all with Snow Leopard but they were not getting any response so I thought I would start anew.
    Thank you, Janet

I am replying myself. I went back to mail and when I let mail set it up even though it could authenticate my password it worked. Before I would try to set it up manually and it crashed. So maybe this will work for someone else.

  • Mail is running slow after adding an Exchange account

I recently added an Exchange 2007 account to Mail in addition to 2 other accounts; MobileMe and Gmail. Since then, Mail has been very slow to respond to all interaction. While in the middle of typing, it will pause and then catch up to all my keystrokes. Clicking on a message takes a few seconds to get any response as well. This all goes for any email account, Exchange, Gmail, MobileMe.
I have tried rebuilding the mailboxes. Not sure what else I can try. Is this a common occurrence? Does is matter much that I have over 24,000 messages?

Seems like this process worked out. I copied over the Mail folder in Library >Application Support, replaced Mail in Library and com.apple.mail.plist in Preferences. Feels much better <3
I'm thinking Mail just had enough after years of adding and deleting several email accounts. I also think Apple had changed the manner in which data is stored for Mail. The folder structures and file locations don't appear to be the same in the two user accounts.

  • Mail quits when I hit reply

Recently moved to a new job, and have my personal mac as my main workstation, connected to a standard monitor, keyboard and mouse. I have a very similar setup at my home office.
A few days ago, I started getting an unusual error whereby mail would unexpectedly quit when I tried to reply to a message. This repros every time, but doesn't repro when I connect to my home network (via Airport).
I tried searching using some key things out of the error report--it looks maybe like a kernel failure/inaccessible memory address problem (he said quite tentatively)? But so far have found nothing that works. I thought it was a driver issue, so I tried new keyboard/mouse and none at all (still repros). I thought it might be a corrupted mail prefs issue, so deleted com.apple.mail.plist but it still happens.
I thought it might be a problem with my accounts, so I deleted each mail account (there are several, a mixture of POP and IMAP, google and .mac) and re-added each account.
Now I'm getting a new, additional problem. The original bug still repros, but now all my messages show up in beige in the main list window as if they're junk (they were just all getting sent to junk, until I turned off the send-to-junk mail-folder feature). If I mark them not junk, they turn black; when I quit out of mail and open it again, they're beige again.
Everything updated in terms of my sys software. Any ideas? IS there a way to just uninstall/reinstall mail, or do you have to do a whole new system install?
Here is the first bit of the failure report--let me know if you need more. Thanks in advance!

-Repaired disk using disk utility from OSX install disk
    -Installed combined update
    -Updated further using system update
    -Repaired permissions
-Followed your directions in other threads for re-setting the junk mail filter (which seems to have helped my other problem).
I am still having the issue. No problem when I'm using my laptop at home, crashes when I try and reply to a message only when I'm connected to my office lan.

  • Windows 8.1 Mail App doesn't sync Exchange account on desktop but does on laptop

I was referred to this forum by another Microsoft engineer, and while I do not believe this is where this problem can be resolved, I'm following his instructions.
I have Windows 8.1 on my desktop PC and an ASUS X205TA laptop. For several months, the three accounts I have under Mail (two Outlook.com accounts and one Microsoft Exchange work account) synced properly on my desktop.
In fact, the Mail app on my desktop worked fine with my Exchange account from the first time I used it under Windows 8 in 2012. The version didn’t seem to matter – whether it was Windows 8 Consumer Preview, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1, the Mail app
connected to my Microsoft Exchange account simply by filling in my email address and password.
Sometime this past summer, however, in the July timeframe, the Mail app stopped synchronizing with my Exchange account. In an effort to repair it, I removed and attempted to reinstall the account. This time, it would not let me load the Exchange account, even
when including additional information (domain, server, user name, et. al.).
This past fall, I purchased the ASUS notebook with Windwows 8.1 installed, and I was able to successfully load my Exchange account in Windows Mail using just my email address and password, as well as the two Outlook.com accounts, and all three accounts synchronize
properly. When I went back to my desktop, however, I noticed that the Liberty email account was listed under my Mail app. Apparently, since my laptop and desktop configurations are registered under the same Microsoft account, when they synchronized, the Liberty
email account which I successfully loaded on my notebook appeared on my desktop system as well.
The Mail app on the desktop, however, still can’t synchronize with my Exchange account so, in effect, I’m back to where I was in July. I would also add that I'm running Microsoft Outlook 2013 on my desktop and laptop and, in both cases, all three of my email
accounts are installed and working properly.
I don’t know if this information gives you insight into what the problem might be, but it’s apparent that there’s something in the configuration of my desktop Windows Mail app that is causing the problem. It’s working just fine on my notebook.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Mail app multiple times, run the App Troubleshooter, and tried a Clean Boot installation of the Exchange account. None of these fixed the problem.
As I told the other Microsoft engineer, if this were an Exchange problem, I wouldn't be able to connect to my Exchange account in Outlook 2013 on my desktop and my laptop, nor would I be able to connect to my Exchange account using Windows 8.1 Mail
    on my laptop.
The problem is specifically with the Windows 8.1 Mail app on my desktop PC, and its sudden inability to sync with my Exchange account after it worked in every iteration of Windows 8 since 2012.
I have posted this issue in this forum as suggested, but my troubleshooting does not point to an Exchange problem, but rather a Windows 8.1 Mail app problem on my desktop PC.
    Can you help?

    Hello ronontheright,
Do you mean that only the Exchange account in the desktop Mail app can’t sync?
Please take a look at the following article.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2012/11/26/supporting-windows-8-mail-in-your-organization.aspx
Exchange ActiveSync can be used to sync data for email, contacts, and calendar. The Windows 8 Mail app supports Exchange ActiveSync.
Please open the Windows Store app Calendar and People to check if they can normally sync.
Please try to remove the account in Mail app and sign in again and check if the issue still exists.
    Best regards,

  • Mail has stopped sending via exchange account after syncing with Mobile Me

    Hi There,
I'm having trouble tracking down the cause of this issue, but after resetting sync data on two macs (10.6.7) neither can send emails using our work account (iPad and iPhone seem fine).
When I reply to emails for work (on a third-party hosted exchange server) I receive an error saying that it can't send and suggests choosing another server. The only server in the list is Mobile Me which has the word (offline) next to it.
    1.
Should the exchange server appear in the list of available servers?
    2.
It looked like Mail was trying to use mobile me to send the work emails but was failing because it rejected the address, so I deleted mobile me from the SMTP server list in an effort to force mail to use the Exchange server but no joy.
The connection doctor sucessfully connects to the exchange server so it obviously sees the connection and the exchange account is set to only use the exchange server (it appears in the dropdown but not in the edit servers list).
Has anyone else seen this - need to send a few work emails!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

Never Mind got it... I did find the answer after a bit more searching Thanks to anyone who read the message...

  • Mail 8.2 (2070.6) - Exchange Account Authentication Issue

    Hi All,
Two days ago my Mail application started to prompt me for passwords on my exchange accounts. I would enter the passwords and then get re-prompted. I subsequently logged in to the webmail version of the exchange accounts and was able to log in without issue. Lastly, I removed all the exchange accounts from my Mail app and added them once again. I was able to add the accounts but then immediately started getting password prompts again. Anybody experiencing similar issues?

I have a mail issue and am getting the following:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (MCMailErrorDomain error 1030)
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
I had to go to my provider to fix the issue you're having;  OS X apparently doesn't save your password in settings...check that, it's a PITA, but the reality of the OS... Check with you provider, might be helpful as they would have lots of experience with this sort of thing.

  • Mail quits when APPLE P comand or menu "PRINT" command are given

When I attempt to print from the menu or from keyboard shortcut to print ie an email, Mail quits as if I've done APPLE key "Q". This does not occur in any other application. This happens no matter what user account it is attempted in.

When an application crashes (i.e. quits unexpectedly), the system writes information about the state of the application at the moment of the crash to a log file. That information is called a crash report and makes troubleshooting easier. In order to find and post the relevant part of the crash report here, proceed as follows:
    1. Open ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mail.crash.log. The whole crash log appears in a Console window (you can also open that file with any text editor). It may contain many crash reports. We only want the latest, which is located at the bottom of the file.
    2. Look for a line that begins with “Date/Time:” as close to the bottom as possible, and another that says “Thread N Crashed:”, where N is a number. Select everything from the “Date/Time:” line down to (and including) the lines immediately following “Thread N Crashed:”. Copy that text and paste it in your post. Do not post the whole crash log, and do not include anything beyond the lines immediately following “Thread N Crashed:” either, just the relevant part.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.
