Mail quota issues

Server Running mac osx 10.4
Server Admin does not reflect recent changes made within WGM in relation to Mail quota increases.
I have rebooted, refreshed mail system etc but the mail quota appearing in mail accounts is incorrect.
Please advise the best way to make the changes stick.
Thanks
Simon

It could be that the quotas need reconstruction. Download and install mailbfr (available here: http://osx.topicdesk.com/tools/ ) and issue:
sudo mailbfr -q
Failing that, please check /var/log/mailaccess.log for clues. Maybe your Cyrus DB is broken.
Also note, that quotas and mailboxes over 2GB will not work correctly.
HTH,
Alex

  • Mail quota and server issue

I keep getting one of two messages all of a sudden.
    Connection Failed
There maybe a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "*%[email protected]" or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "mail.mac.com" on port 993 timed out.
Or I get a message saying that I am at 99% of mail quota. What do either of these mean?

I was aware that you have a .Mac account based on the information you provided in your original post.
My question was/is, how are you accessing your .Mac account with the Mail application on your Mac - the account type - .Mac, IMAP or POP?
The default account type for a .Mac account with the Mail application is a .Mac type account which is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.
You can access a .Mac account as a .Mac type, IMAP or POP account with the Mail application and as an IMAP or POP account with another email client such as the Mail application on your Mac or on a Windows PC.
Very few (no others that I'm aware of) email account providers include/support such a choice of account types. The majority support a single account type - IMAP or POP with POP being the most common.
With a POP account, you have the option to remove messages from the server when downloaded by an email client such as the Mail application. There is no such option when accessing an IMAP account with an email client such as Mail. A .Mac type account or IMAP account received messages remain on the server until deleted from the account's Inbox mailbox or moved from the account's Inbox mailbox to a mailbox stored locally on your hard drive. Transferring a message from a server stored mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox with Mail (which is stored locally on your hard drive) saves the transferred message locally on your hard drive and removes the message from the server at the same time.
The same doesn't apply to a POP account which is the reason for my question regarding the account type.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences will show the account type at the top.
You can raise the amount of server storage space allocated for email messages or remove messages from the server to get rid if the error message and back under your server storage limit.

  • Cyrus mail quota

    Hi,
An important user of our xserver (using imap Cyrus) has about 4gb in his imap account. The biggest mailfolder contains 1.7 gb at the moment.
He gets a warning every now and then from Mail.app that his mailbox is almost full.
I read a lot about the hardcoaded limit of 2gb, and how users get over this 2gb, but are getting problems with their accounts.
    Is this still the case?
And does this count per imap mail folder or for all the imap folders together in his account (which is now 4 gb)?
We did not set quotas our self, in Workgroup Manager all mail quotas are left at '0'.
    Thanks!

I have been experiencing the same issue: a user is getting the '90% Quota' error when we have not set any quotas. I saw that you mentioned a 'hardcoded' 2GB limit, but when looking at Server Admin -> Mail -> Accounts, I see that user's account has a -374MB under 'Quota Used'.
Have you found any other possible solutions?

  • Transport Mail Database issues crashing Transport service

We are experiencing frequent issues on Hub servers (as often as once a week) where Transport Mail DB issues crash the Transport service.  Had an MS specialist in the other day who could not exactly figure out the root cause.  The pattern usually is as follows:
    1. Event ID 486 - This event refers to a failure to move a log file (associated with Transport Mail DB queues) because it is being used by another process.  What that process could be is unknown.
    2. Event ID 413 - Unable to create a new logfile because the database cannot write to the log drive.
    3. Event ID 492 - The logfile sequence in <dir> has been halted
    4. Event ID 17019 - A database operation has encountered a I/O error. The Microsoft Exchange Transport service is shutting down. Exception details: Microsoft.Exchange.Isam.IsamLogWriteFailException: Failure writing to log file (-510)
Also followed by events 7001,1022,1002, and 1003.
Haven't been able to determine what is causing Event ID 486.  Not aware of any process that would be tying up the access to the log file.  These queue files are stored on a local disk, not a SAN.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this?  Running E2K7SP1 Rollup 2 currently on all Exchange systems.

    Hi,
I suggest that you use the following method to check which process access the log file indicated in the event 486:
    Using Process Explorer
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx
    Then, we did the following:
    1. Launch Process Explorer
    2. Click Find, Find Handle or DLL
    3. Enter the log name indicated in the event 486 and click Search
In addition, please also check whether any events such as 150004 occur before the Transport service crashes. If you notice the event, I also suggest that you refer to the following article:

  • Where can I configure mail quotas in Lion Server?

One (minor) problem for me, after upgrading from SnowLeopard Server to Lion Server is the fact, that I can't figure out where to administer the mail quotas. So far I have just managed to find the "Server Admin". Here, under Mail -> Maintenance I can see the quotas and under Mail->Settings->Quotas I can enable quota warnings and edit them. But I can't find a place to configure individual quotas. The quota settings from SnowLeopard server have been migrated and are still in place. But how should I change them. It used to be in WorkgroupManager. But in WorkgroupManager this item is gone.
    Many thanks for your replies.

    Followng up a bit,
In looking into OD records on my Snow Leopard Server via the Inspector in WGM, I see the following attribute for one of my users for whom I've set a 1024mb mail quota.
    Name:
    MailAttriute
    Value:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <dict>
              <key>kAPOPRequired</key>
              <string>APOPNotRequired</string>
              <key>kAltMailStoreLoc</key>
              <string></string>
              <key>kAttributeVersion</key>
              <string>Apple Mail 1.0</string>
              <key>kAutoForwardValue</key>
              <string></string>
              <key>kIMAPLoginState</key>
              <string>IMAPAllowed</string>
              <key>kMailAccountLocation</key>
              <string>[redacted].[redacted].org</string>
              <key>kMailAccountState</key>
              <string>Enabled</string>
              <key>kPOP3LoginState</key>
              <string>POP3Allowed</string>
              <key>kUserDiskQuota</key>
              <string>1024</string>
    </dict>
I'm wondering if manually entering this attribute, and an XML value with at least the kUserDiskQuota key included will be all I need to do to implement per-user quotas in Lion Server.
If I get time, I will test and report back.

  • Increase Mail Quota

I have a Mac Pro with Leopard Server. I'm trying to increase the Mail Quotas for some of our users over 2GB.
When I update this value in WGM, everything seems to work ok, but the users, sitll get the warning over x% of mail quota.
Any idea what im doing wrong?

As you can see the server admin changes did not make their way to the database itself.
You can either try using cyradm (see man page tidbit below)
"setquota" root resource value [resource value ...]
"sq" root resource value [resource value ...]
Set a quota on the specified root, which may or may not be an actual mailbox. The only
resource understood by Cyrus is "STORAGE". The value may be the special string "none"
    which will remove the quota.
Or look at downloading siradmin and see if that interface helps at all. Siradmin is easier than cyradm but if you are going to be administrating this mail server, you should learn cyradm..
    Siradmin: http://explanatorygap.net/sw/SirAdmin.app.zip
    I hope this helps..

  • Mail app issues

This is more of a Mail app issue, and I've posted the question on that board, but I thought I'd post it here because I'm hoping some admins might have dealt with a similar issues:
Is anyone having success with clients on Network Homes using Leopard's Mail.app and an IMAP server?
Things used to work on the same client machines under Tiger, but after upgrading them to Leopard, Mail.app flat out refuses to work.
Users with portable homes seem to have better luck.
    Some symptoms:
after working fine for 15-20 seconds, preview pane gets stuck on a "Loading" message. Double-clicking the same email opens it just fine in a separate window.
auto-fill of addresses in the To: field doesn't work. (The little circle on the right just keeps spinning.)
Mail.app does not pull any new incoming messages.
Mail.app refuses to quit cleanly. Force-quitting is the only way to make it quit
Mail.app randomly needs to "Quit or Quit and Rebuild" the database.
    Thanks.

Thanks to Dan Peterka in this thread:

  • What does Mail Quota: "0" mean?

    Hi there,
I'm trying to get to grips with OSX's mail services and using the Workgroup Manager, I discovered that some accounts have set a limit of for instance 500MB to their mail quota while a few others are set to 0MB (zero).
Does that mean these have unlimited space allowance?
    Cheers Martin

    Thanks, Camelot.
One more question though. If I wanted to set a limit to 1GB, but the account was already exceeding that limit, what would happen? Is there a danger of the user losing any mail?
Where can I check the space usage for individual accounts?

  • Server Mail Quota

    Hi everyone,
my boss got an alert the other day stating that he was nearing the mail quota I had set at 650 MB. This brought up several questions that I'm having trouble finding answers to; hopefully someone here can help me out.
    1. At what percentage to the quota does the alert get sent out? 80% capacity? 90%?
    2. Is there any way for me to check how close my boss or anyone else is to reaching their quota without actually having to be at their computer checking their mail clients?
    3. Similarly, is there a way for my boss or anyone else to check their own quotas? I know how to check it using Apple's Mail, but can't find it anywhere in Outlook 2011, our (presently) preferred client on Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I can certainly provide more information if it would be helpful.

It is possible to check the quota in the Mac Mail client although I have my doubts that it is accurate.
I can't see any suchQuota inspection in Thunderbird or MS Windows Live Mail clients.
in Mac Mail: ctrl+Click the email account in the Mail App "Mailboxes" section of the LH panel and click "Get Account Info" where you will then see a "Quota Limits" panel with each folder's size in MB and No of Messages under a slider that summarises the amount of quota taken.
Very nice .... except it doesn't seem to reflect individual Users' Quota overrides of the Global "Limit Mail to nMB" settings on the Server App's Mail panel. In fact I doubt this works on OS X Server 4 Yosemite .... be glad to be proved wrong here!

  • Outgoing Mail quota

    Hi.
Is there any way to setup outgoing Mail quota for a specific user?? We want to set a limit in the number of outgoing Mail for a specific user.

We want to set a limit in the number of outgoing Mail for a specific user.If the user authenticates you can use a combination of a mapping table entry and metermaid to limit the number of external recipients (tcp_local) that a user can email e.g.
    <mapping table entries>
    FROM_ACCESS
! User authenticated (mail: [email protected], uid: shjorth)
! tag the *_ACCESS channel with USER_LIMIT followed by ^shjorth^
       *|SMTP*|*|tcp_*|*|[email protected]   $Y$TUSER_LIMIT^shjorth^
    ORIG_SEND_ACCESS
! Check the number of outgoing messages sent, reject the message if exceed metermaid.table.out_limit.quota
      USER_LIMIT^*^tcp_*|*|tcp_local|*    $C$[IMTA_LIB:check_metermaid.so,throttle,out_limit,$0]$E$N$D100|Exceeded$ rate$ limit<metermaid settings>
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.data_type -v string
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.max_entries -v 200
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.options -v "nocase,penalize"
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.quota -v 10
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.quota_time -v 86400
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.type -v throttleThe above settings restrict a user to 10 external recipients (metermaid.table.out_limit.quota) in a 24 hour (metermaid.table.out_limit.quota_time) time frame.

    Shane.

  • Apple mail quote below not above

    Hi,
I used to have it set up so when I replied to an email - the previous quoted text was ABOVE my signature - not it is set opposite - how do I set my signature BELOW the quoted text?

    Ok. Thanks.
I archived maximum email from my account and left around 300 messages in my Inbox + Sent Items.
Then I Rebuilt the account. I saw in the lower left corner the Mail Activity status where it started downloading the messages.
In parallel I had the Activity Monitor open to check the CPU usage. It was around 30%.
It took around 5 to 10 mins to download those 300 messages. But on my mail app only some of the messages were completely downloaded while rest only showed the header and no body. I left it that way.
The Mail Activity is done with its job. The status bar is gone. But the Activity Monitor still shows Mail app at similar CPU utilization levels (around 30%).
The issue is that my Mail App does not show any additional messages downloading with their bodies. Its almost like it is stuck at message number X.
While the CPU is still showing 30% utilization by mail, I have switched the UI to NOT show any conversations. This way every  message is visible in the list. I have put the mac on Caffeine for next 5 hours so that it does not sleep.
    Will update the thread tomorrow.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Sender Mail Adapter issue

    Hi All,
We are getting this error in Sender Mail adapter.
"exception caught during processing mail message; java.net.ConnectException: A remote host refused an attempted connect operation"
It is a (Lotus Notes) Mail to File scenario.
Used POP3, and gave the URL as POP:// ** .
I have tried pinging the server and getting a good response.
I have also tried the OS01 ans it returned a response : Program Terminated.
I am not sure if the POP3 port is enabled.
Are there any check points we are missing ?
Please throw some light on this as we need to solve this asap ..

    Shabarish is right.
This seem a connectivity issue. Try to ping Mail server from your PI System and check pop3 port.

Are the calls to CUE getting dropped when you dial from an IP Phone at site 1 (callmanager) ?
How is the CME router setup in Callmanager ? Is it added as a regular H323 gateway or a H225 trunk ? Either ways, make sure the gateway registers with the correct IP that is used in Callmanager.
So if CME has a wan ip (a.a.a.a) and a lan ip (b.b.b.b), if you add b.b.b.b as the CME gateway's ip address in Callmanager, then you need to bind the H323 ip address as follows.
    interface fa0/0
    ip add b.b.b.b
    h323-gateway voip bind srcaddr b.b.b.b
Most likely the CME gateway is sending calls to Callmanager using ip address a.a.a.a which is the wan ip, through which it has the default route to Callmanager.
    Hope that makes sense!
