Mail: REALLY small mailbox icons?

I have a LOT of stuff in the Mail sidebar - multiple inboxes, notes, to-do's, RSS feeds, and archived mailboxes. I've already organized as much as possible into folders then closed the disclosure triangle. There's still too much.
I already use Mail's Use Small Mailbox Icons option, but even though I can choose smaller text sizes, the line height stays the same, resulting in me having to still do a lot of scrolling up and down to get the the folder I want to.
I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but is there any way to make those mailbox icons even smaller than Small mode? I'd love the sidebar to be pretty tiny so I could view most of my folders/items at once.

  • Small mailbox icon SCANDAL

I am appalled that for the first time to my knowledge, mainstrean Apple software has required knowledge of a hidden right-click instruction for something simple, namely to display small mailbox icons in Mail
(rather than the huge ones that make your mailbox list extend off the bottom of the screen).
I just upgraded to Apple Mail 2.0.5 and found that to make the icons small you have to right-click in the mailboxes window.
Is this creeping Microsoftism? Can user complaints nip this nasty degradation of Apple standards in the bud?

    Looks fine for me.
I dont know any way to change it for you sorry... unless a setting in Personalise works.

  • I have an iPhone 5. Just downloaded the latest Upgrade and it is not updating my mailboxes or showing that I even have mail like the other version did, when I open the mailbox icon

i have an iPhone 5 and just downloaded the latest upgrade.iOS 7.  Dunno what happened but it no longer is "pushing" my email into my mailboxes nor is it showing that I even have mail when I open the Mailbox icon. What happened?  What do I need to do to fix? help

That number is for an apple server in the UK that is used for iMessage activation.  A hidden SMS is snet to that number when you turn iMessage on and is used to verify your phone number.  I suggest you turn iMessage off.  In settings/phone turn on dial assist.  Check with your carrier to see if you can send an international SMS as you end that possibility to activate iMessage.  Rest your phone (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).) then turn iMessage back on.

  • Mail present in Mailbox, not showing in Smart Mailbox

OK, this is a bit complicated to explain, but let's try.
To archive old emails, I use to create a Smart Mailbox with criteria, for example, all emails (received or sent) from 01/01/2001 to 31/12/2001.
Then I drag them in a separate mailbox, which I can archive.
As a check, I show on the mail browser the "mailbox" column.
And many mails are reported as "blank" in the Mailbox column.
Worse, when I try to open them, they appear blank, too. No headers, no contents.
But if I do a Spotlight search on the title shown in the browser, I can find the .emlx file, and open it with Text Wrangler. Text Wrangler then give me the path of the file ... which is in the adequate mailbox !! And if I open the file through the result window of Spotlight, Mail decently opens the message ...
    Rebuilding the mailboxes doesn't help.
It happens with "small" years (+/- 2000 messages) as well as with "big" years (10,000 messages and above).
Is there a way to rebuild a complete index of Mail ?
    Thanks in advance

    Claude,
It would appear that you do need to force reindexing. Since forcing reindexing involves more than those On My Mac mailboxes, the issue of what type of accounts you use remains relevant?
To force Mail to reindex, you quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail and locate the Envelope Index file (hopefully you only find one file with similar name). Drag out, or delete the Envelope Index file from the Mail folder, and then relaunch Mail, which will announce that it is ready to import mailboxes, but really will only set about to index all mailboxes.
Again, if you have anything other than POP accounts, please report that, and if you understand what you are supposed to do with the account folder for non-POP accounts?

  • Curve 8520. Small clock icon appearing and very slow running

My curve is operating really slowly and when I try to open or send a text or open a mail, I get a very small clock icon appear. After about 20 secs, the text or mail opens. Not able to send any e mails either. Thought too many stored mails may be the problem but device won't now allow me to delete. Battery also running low after just a few hours, even after fully charging.

    1. Do a reboot on the device:  With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
    2. To prevent freezing or lagging/slow response on any BlackBerry, the most important practice you can adopt is to be sure to CLOSE applications when you are finished using them.
If you just hit the red "end call" key to go back to the home screen the application actually stays open and running in the background. If you do this repeatedly you will have lots of apps open and consequently your memory will get used up. Lack of memory is the biggest reason your BlackBerry slows to a crawl or locks up. If you get into the habit of actually using the menu key to close the applications this will at least slow down this memory-clogging process. You still may have to do a battery pull or use the "Quickpull" app once in a while when things get slow.
To check what applications are running on your device in the background, press the Menu key then choose Switch Applications. You will see the icons of each application there.
So now, check your applications running in the background. There are commonly four or five applications that will always be running (Messages, Call Logs/Phone, BlackBerry Messenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are other third party applications such as BeeJive, and BlackBerry Alerts which will also run in the background which you cannot close if you want them to operate). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (open the browser and choose Menu > Close). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (the camera or a game you were playing or Google Maps).

  • Mailbox Icons on Curve 8330

We are wondering if it is possible to break out the various mailbox accounts on a single phone into their own mailbox icons. For example...the mailbox receives inbound text messages...verizon mail...and our corporate mail...all on the same icon. (I personally like this). We have a user who would really prefer to have a different icon for each account so he can manange them seperately. Is this possible?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a third-party application called BES MailBox (from Empower) that separates the BES mail in to its own folder. So what the user could do is install that, then hide the regular Messages folder. Then, using the method describe in the post above mine, he would have an icon for the SMS Messages, Verizon Mail, and the corporate mail.

  • Significance of 'blue' and 'white' mailbox icons

    Hi,
I just reopened a powerbook that I haven't used in the past few months, and jumped on email. Downloaded several messages into my several mailboxes, all rules being obeyed but my MOST important mailbox, which has 116 new messages will not display ANY messages...read, unread, old or new. The icon says I have 110 new messages but nothing. All other mailboxes show new and old mail. The mailbox in question is white in color (as in my inbox), all the others are blue...don't know if thats relevant. Mailbox, when hovered over, says 'messages stored locally on this Mac', as do all the others. I use pop. Several reboots. Everything else (in mail and out of mail) working great.
    Appreciate any help!

Whoa! What a mess! Adding the .mbox suffix without cleaning up things first would have made things worse.
Before doing anything else, make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
*.mbox and *.imapmbox folders are mailboxes. Mail 2.x mailboxes should contain just an Info.plist file that may or may not be present, and a Messages folder with an *.emlx file for each message stored in that mailbox. No other folders should be present within a mailbox.
Conversely, folders without suffix are meant to be used as parent folders for other folders. They shouldn't contain any messages of their own, i.e. there should be no Messages folder at the root level of a folder without an .mbox or an .imapmbox suffix.
Mail allows the same folder to behave as both a mailbox (i.e. contain messages of its own) and as a parent folder (i.e. contain other folders and mailboxes). Although such folders appear as a single folder in Mail, there is a different folder in the filesystem to support each of the aspects of this duality. Such duality usually ends up causing problems, and I don't recommend organizing mail in that way. Things usually work better if each folder behaves as either a mailbox or as a parent folder, but not both.
What's problematic about your situation is that you have a folder that's both a mailbox and a parent folder, but for which the mailbox variant is missing, i.e. this is not just a matter of adding an .mbox suffix. Both variants (with and without suffix) should be present in the filesystem for that folder, but you only have one of them.
Actually, it's worse, because it seems that the mailbox variant, rather than missing, is present as a subfolder of the parent folder variant. They should be at the same level (like "SAA").
Do you see "PRP", "SAA" and "TRC" as subfolders of "TRC" in Mail?
In the Finder, open TRC.mbox (the mailbox variant that's within the parent folder variant), and post its contents. Does it also have a Messages folder? Do both Messages folders (the one within the mailbox variant and the one within the parent folder variant) contain messages or is any of them empty?

  • No mailbox icons on ipad

I Can go to mail on my iPad, second gen, but it doesn't,t show me what mailbox I'm in and doesn't have any mailbox icons (in box, etc.) to allow me to navigate  I've tried to delete the account and sent it up again but it turned out the same.

First of all, you are in the Mailboxes window, correct?Have you tried sending yourself an email from another device? If you have access to a computer, or another device, try that. See if the email appears in an InBox on the iPad.
Something else to check is where the window that the InBoxes should appear. See if there is an Edit button at the top of the window and tap that. Are there mailboxes that you can add?

  • Mac Mail: Unread mail counter on dock icon shows "phantom" unread mails

The mailconter of my Mac Mail icon on the dock shows 25 unread messages, but I'm unable to find these inside Mac Mail as unread messages.
I did check all mailboxes and their subfolders for any undread messages that might be inside them, but I didn't find any.
Is there any way to reset or recalculate the unread mail counter for the dock icon?

    Hi Robert
The proposed rebuild did suddenly reveal the 25 unread mails insinde my archive mailfolders. By marking these as read again now shows the correct count of unread mails on the dock icon.
Thanks a lot, your hint was most helpful!

  • Mac Mail lost red notification icon

For some reason the little red icon has gone from my dock when new mail arrives. However, if i turn off the rule that moves incoming mail to a mailbox it works. It's only when the rule is turned on it doesn't, problem being i've had the rule for a year and not changed it yet now this problem. All the rule does is move incoming mail into a seperate mailbox. Any ideas it's driving me nuts!

Tried both suggestions, it only stopped working 48 hours ago yet i'd not upgraded or changed anything. However, what i did do was to back up my messages and delete the preferences apple.com.mail thing or whatever it was called, and the mail folder and started again. Re-installed the rules and now works again. So thanks for advice, was appreciated

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • I open Mail, and a new message screen comes up.  I cannot get rid of it, and I cannot get to the mail in my mailbox???

When I try to open my mail (not IMail) a new message screen comes up on my iPad  (version 8.1.3 (12B466), and I cannot cancel it; it prevents me from getting to the mail in that mailbox.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
