Mail received is delayed by 1 hour from certain emails?!!

I have been having trouble getting emails from a co-Mac customer who is also using Mail. He'll send me an email & I won't get it for an hour or so. What can cause this?
I had read elsewhere that the emails may be getting routed their their ISP before it gets to mine. I just find it strange that it only happens with this particular customer. What can I do on my end to prevent this from happening etc. I am using the "Mail" program in OS X 10.4.11 and I believe he is using OS X 10.3ish and the "Mail" program" as well.

Jon,
Every legitimate outgoing E-mail goes thru their own ISP first ..... then the incoming ISP last.
Your customer's ISP probably has a low limit on KB size and/or their server is overloaded most of the time. Advise your client to contact the E-mail tech at their ISP and explain the problem.
If the issue was on your end, you would have the delay all the time.
The different version OS has no bearing in this matter ....... not even between Windows or Macs.

mail with multiple gmail accounts sending messages from wrong email, other than the one i select:
i'm using mail on osx 10.7 with multiple gmail accounts. when i create an email, i check to be sure i'm sending/replying from the correct account. after i send it, somehow it actually sends it from a different account, other than the one i've selected "from." this is evidenced by the reply email i receive. how can i fix this?
in preferences, i have "send new messages from : account of selected mailbox"

From the Mail menu bar, select
              Mail ▹ Preferences...
The Mail preference dialog opens. Select the Composing tab from the row of icons at the top. From the menu labeled
              Send new messages from:
    choose
              Account of selected mailbox
Note that this setting may have no effect if you start a new message while a VIP or smart mailbox is selected in the mailbox list. Those are saved searches, not actual mailboxes.
If the problem remains, select the Accounts tab in the preference dialog, then select the affected account in the list on the left.
In the Account Information pane, select the correct server in the menu labeled
              Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
If there's only one server in the menu, select
              Edit SMTP Server List...
and add a new server with the correct settings. If you're not sure how to do that, try the Mail Settings Lookup.
Another possibility is that the wrong card in your address book is selected as yours. Select your card in the Contacts application. Then select
Card ▹ Make This My Card
    from the menu bar.

  • Not receiving mails from certain email addresses

I am sending & receiving the majority or my mails without any problems but there are a few email address from which I am being sent mails that I am not receiving. They are not being notified that I am not receiving the mails either.
Could they be blocked on Mobile me? How can I unblock these addresses and retrieve the mail?
    Thanks,

Yep, that's very typcial of mail from lists...
In Outlook open the message, click on File/Properties, and you'll see a box labled "Internet Headers".  I usually copy that out and paste it to Notepad to make it easier to read...
You'll find that there are different addresses in the vairous headers.
This is NORMAL for some types of list mail.

  • Mail 5.3 not getting (or blocking) a certain email address

For no specific reason, from july 30 2014, I stopped receiving emails from one of my colleague. Her address is an @yahoo.com address. I tested my own @yahoo.com address and everything is fine. I didn't do anything special to her address, no rule, no nothing. Mail 5.3 and my iPhone too, both stopped receiving whatever she would send me.
On her side, it says that everything is actually sent and nothing is bouncing back to her.
I really don't get that one. Can someone help me please?

I have just checked BTCONNECT webmail and no junk mail folder. I am using Outlook for my email account. At the sending end it says sent messages and they think it could be BT's end. Most people on my mailing list are receiving the emails I am sending it is sending from [email protected] as that is where the mailing lists go through as such, but I am not and other BT email accounts.
    Hi again.
Is this a business account, and does it affect sending to @btconnect.com and @btinternet.com email addresses ?
Even though the "system" says sent, it doesn't actually mean that the mail servers have actually managed to send. When you say "they think if could be BT's end" - have they checked their systems thoroughly ?
Some mailing list systems are notorious for being treated as spam sending systems, and the emails could actually be prevented entering end user ISPs altogether by higher order anti-spam filters, such as Spamhaus etc. The end user would then not even see them in their online Spam folder.
If all other emails are being received as expected, then it seems to point at the originating end - even if users on other non BT ISPs are receiving those emails.

  • Mail received signal delayed

For the past few weeks the alert window shows mail as been received and the mail icon shows the number of mail unread as expected.
However, the chime used to sound at them moment that mail arrived, but now the chime doesn't sound for 30-45 seconds after mail comes in and shows received. I can open and read a mail, close the app before the chime sounds.
Not really a major issue, but is weird aince the chime is now virtually worthless most of the time.
Anyone else seeing this happening? I am still on an original iPad and this seems to have happened since Apple app updates were done for iOS 6 although I am can only run iOS 5.

    1. Double-click the Home button and swipe Task Bar to the right
    2. Check the volume and mute settings

hi looking for help here I have 2 email address that where put in the junk but are not , I moved the email address to the inbox but then they stopped even coming threw to the junk?... I then thought if I made up a rule to go to a certain folder for this email address I would be happy with this but even this doesn't work and it's taking some times 4-5 hours for me to revive this email address , the server at there end is fine as they send this email to a group and my hotnail account recives it instantly

Any error message provided and if so, what?
Are the message headers available in your account's Inbox mailbox and when selecting a message to view it, the content is not shown?

  • Mail Delivery Error only when sending from certain email accounts

I posted in another thread regarding this however the problem has seemed to get more interesting.
On a whim i decided to change which e-mail account I was sending from and re-sent the exact same PDF document from my MobileMe(instead of Gmail) and it worked perfectly!! got the e-print confirmation about it preparing for printing and then whalla the print! Went back to try gmail and got the Mailer Deamon error again:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
         [email protected]
    Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.7.1 Command rejected (state 18).
could it be specifically related to Gmail or googles servers? Are there specific mail providers that work/don't work(for example MobileMe vs Gmail vs Yahoo, BlackBerry, etc...)
Any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

and while I had read that information and appreciate you re-providing that I'm still not sure exactly what that tells me. In both cases I was using Apple's Mail (once to send from a Gmail account which failed and once from MobileMe win succeeded) and then again from my BlackBerry handhelp(in which case neither account worked)
since both Apple Mail, Blackberry and also Gmail are "tested" I'm assuming you're pointing out the "testing does not guarentee full compatibility"  portion of this statement which to me is misleading. If I'm using only "tested" clients but having problems it feels slightly dishonest to be marketing this product as complete. While I am optimistic about the many possibilities offered by this printer I am disappointed at present by the limited and seemingly premature release of "e-print" as a whole.
Any other potential workarounds you can think of?

  • I can receive all email but can't send from certain email accounts

    Hi,
I am having email problems. I have several email accounts. I receive email on all of them, but can't send on all of them. Not even a reply. The email accounts that work are gmail and att.net
The accounts that don't send are:
1 account hosted by GoDaddy, and a few accounts on my 2 domains jackskalon.com and bigjackmagic.com
all of these accounts work fine on my laptop via outlook 2007. The place that houses my 2 domains said they don't know why I am having this problem. Apparently I am the only one?!?!
    Thanks

Now that you mention it, I do have that problem when travelling with my laptop and iphone.
As far as SMTP. I am not very knowlegable about how this all works. When I set up the email accounts accounts on the iphone, the message came back "Verified" as I finished configuring the accounts. Email on My laptop works fine at home, the iphone doesn't. On the road, iphone and laptop have the same problem.
I apologize if I am missing the point of what you are asking me.
    It's frustrating.
    Thanks for the replies!

  • TS3276 Mail app is starting to substitute content from older emails instead of the content I'm actually sending.  Any idea what's happening?

I upgraded to Mavericks about 6 weeks ago.  Starting 2 weeks ago when I send an email and check in the "sent" folder that it has been sent I notice that the content has been substituted.  Instead of what I just wrote the sent email contains content from an older unrelated email.  Any idea what's going on and especially what I can do about it?
    Thanks Rex

  • BIS *to* external Hotmail delayed by many hours?

I just got a 9780 and I've found that if I create a new email and send it to a Hotmail account (such as my wife's, who only uses Hotmail) it's delayed by many hours.
The email appears on my work email server (using BIS, not BES) almost instantly.  If I then forward that email to wife's account it get delivered within a minute.
Also if she sends me an email and I reply from my BlackBerry, that gets delivered very quickly.
So, only newly created emails on the Blackberry, sent to Hotmail accounts, are affected.  Any ideas, please?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
What you describe could be an issue with BIS, but I've not seen any other reports (yet). Nevertheless, I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you might try deleting and re-adding your BIS conduits for the affected email accounts.

  • How can I avoid a pop-up when I'm going from an email to the email list?

I use Mozilla firefox to go online. When I've opened an email I've received and then want to return from that email to the email list, I click "backspace." Half the time, it gets me back to the email list. The other half the time, a window pops up, saying:
"To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier" and I have to choose to cancel or resend. I always click resend. I don't want this window to pop-up. When I read an email and then hit the backspace key, I just want to get back to the email list.
Can you help? Thanks, Alvin Glazerman

Don't use backspace to go back to that page. Either open the link in a new tab with a middle-click and close that tab to go back or click a link to go back to the inbox if there is such a link on that page.

  • Mail receiving delay

    Hi all,
If this has been answered here before, I apologize, I could not find it.
It seems that the mail server is delaying email arbitrarily from outside senders. What is happening is if say "[email protected]" sends an email directly to "[email protected]", the Mac Server is not putting it right through, it will show up in a few hours later. But if the same user, "[email protected]" replies to an email sent from "[email protected]" it comes through right away.
The problem is happening very arbitrarily and with multiple outside domains and senders, so I cannot figure out how to troubleshoot it...
Also on a side note, the logs state that some of the users exist more than once. (i.e dovecot[58]: auth(default): od([email protected], [IP Address] ): user "username" exists more than once ). I don't know if this has something to do with it, I kind of figured it was a Workgroup Manager issue with shortnames.

    Chris,
I agree that inexperienced users are overwhelmed and may have difficulties to decide which options they need to use. I also fully agree that greylisting will block significant amounts of spam and is well suited for a mail server maintained by non professionals. However, "stealthy" options confuse new users even more.
In Server Admin, they tick "Enable junk mail filtering" and as soon as they do so, several grayed out options become active. While they may not be familiar to the beginner, the options are written on that page and can be looked up.
Nowhere does it say that greylisting is going to be enabled and so a user doesn't even know what to look for if things do not work. All the user notices are delays.
The problem is further amplified by the fact that the warning logged in mail.log does not specify what is happening. The policy server logs:
"NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from... 450 ... Recipient address rejected: Service is unavailable;"
while for example Postgrey will log something like:
"NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from... 450 ... Recipient address rejected: Greylisted, see http://postgrey.schweikert.ch/help/example.com.html;"
Having this extra bit of information would help the inexperienced user in asking for help.
Add to this that greylisting can cause the loss of legit mail if not provided with a whitelist and you get unhappy users.
If it was my call, I'd implement one or more of the following in order of priority:
    -A seperate checkbox for Greylisting
-Replace "Refuse all messages from these hosts and networks" with a listbox for whitelisted domains (Refusing mail by IP has become pointless nowadays. Spam comes mostly from botnets).
-Log an explicit warning in mail.log
-If there is no separate checkbox, display a warning when users tick "Enable junk mail filtering", so they now about greylisting
And talking about keeping options down to the minimum: "Accepted languages and locales" is not a very effective measure in fighting spam and can be left to the admins willing to look under the hood.
    Thanks for listening.
    HTH,
    Alex
