Mail recipient's name linked to name in my Contacts

In my Contacts, I have companies set up with multiple e-mail addresses. When an e-mail comes through, the sender's name appears as whatever he or she has set up in their e-mail program. When I reply, the sender's name that is displayed to them changes to what I have in the First and Last Name fields. It's not always the right person's name that comes up and there seems to be no way to change this. I've read that people either do duplicate Contact cards for the same business or make individual Contact cards set up as a person instead of a business. I don't want to do either of those. The point of setting a Contact card up as a business is so I can have all the info together in one place. I don't want them set up as individuals because I wouldn't necessarily know which company they work for. Seems like there should be another way. I want to be able to keep whatever they have set up as their name so it doesn't automatically default to what I have in my Contacts book. Or at the very least be able to change it as needed. Is there a way to do this? A better program to use? Any advice is welcome. Please let me know if I need to clarify anything.
Thank you!

The number you are dialing (or the number displayed by Caller ID from your carrier) MUST match the number assigned to the contact in your address book EXACTLY or a match will not be made to display the name.

Apologies for not phrasing this properly, but I would like to emulate (on a small scale) the ability of mailing systems to place the recipient's name in the message. For example, Dear /name/, would then place the first name listed in my address book for that recipient on their version of the message, and would do the same for each.
Is this even possible in Mail "stock"?

definitely not possible in Mail "stock". you can make an apple script that would do something along this lines but it won't be able to take an email directly from the "to" field in the message composition window. you'd have to either enter it by hand or select it in Address Book.

  • Mail makes new name for attachment

When I send an word (or pdf) attachement to somebody, Mail changes the name. When it is a word document the name changes from "xxxx.doc" into "xxxx.dococ" and a pdf-file from "yyyy.pdf" into "yyyy.pdfdf". The recipient can not read the document. Does anybody knows what to do?

Same problem... make me feel really unprofessional for my custommer...
Here is what is written in the help file of the Mail Attachments Iconizer :
    File name extensions are corrupted.
This is a bug in certain versions of Mac OS X unrelated to Mail Attachments Iconizer. When there are non-ASCII characters (e.g. ä, é or ®)™ in the file name Mail often corrupts the file name extension (e.g. .pdf, .jpg or .doc) which is often necessary to determine the file type.
Workaround: The bug seems to be fixed in the recent Mac OS X updates (as of version 10.5.4). Additionaly it is more safe in general to only use ASCII characters in attachment file names. (ASCII characters include unaccented letters of the Latin alphabet, digits, basic punctuation and spaces.)
I removed the "é" in the file name and it has worked... hope I don't get the problem again... and hopefully the bug will be corrected in further version... (I have Mac OS X 10.5.5 and still have the bug...)

  • Mac Mail displaying incorrect name to the "To" and "from" field of all of my Hotmail emails

When Hotmail is viewed via Mac Mail, the To: field displays the recipient’s name & Hotmail address. There is a serious problem with my incoming Hotmail … instead of displaying my name and Hotmail email address it displays my friend’s name (initials are RB) alongside my Hotmail email address ... for every Hotmail email that is sent to me no matter who emails me.  My contact/address book entries for my name and my friend are correct in Mac Address Book and Hotmail Contacts. Very strange.
Mac Mail seems to be adding recipient name to the To:  field of all of my Hotmail emails & putting in the wrong name next to my email address!  I say this because the officialwww.hotmail.com site only displays a recipient email address in the To:  field (no name appears).  This error is only happening in Mac Mail with my Hotmail emails (not happening with my Gmail and Yahoo emails).
How/why is a wrong name/my friend's name displayed next to my email address in every Hotmail message I view in Mac Mail?
This error is only occurring in incoming Hotmail messages addressed to me.  Emails that I send using my Hotmail show my name & email address correctly in the From field.
    Thank you

Mail has Smart Addresses that will display the name and email address under Preferences > Viewing, but your issue sounds like a different issue.
Did you setup an outlook.com alias in Outlook.com when it made the transition? If not, add an alias and see if that helps. You can also test sending from the outlook.com alias to see if the results are as expected.
For example if your Hotmail email is [email protected] then setup an alias [email protected]
If that fails, test in a new User.
Create a new User in System Preferences.
    Log into your new User.
You can skip the Apple ID setup unless you are testing iCloud.
Select Don't Sign in > Continue > Skip
Open Mail and enter your Hotmail account.
    Does the problem go away?

  • Workflow notification that includes the recipient's name?

Does anyone know how to make a workflow form the contact form come in with a Subject line that includes the person's/recipient's name? So your inbox is not just full of the same Email Subjects and finding an email from an individual can be easily distinguished? ie Sticking a {tag_recipientfirstname} in the approriate area?
    Any help is appreciated!
    Cheers,

The 'red' coloured font usually means that the email address/contact is not in any of your address books.
However, there is a bug which is effecting the colour of the font even if in an address book under some circumstances. The developers are aware of it.
It is possible to completely switch this off so red font does not occur.
'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab
    click on 'Config Editor' button
it will tell you to be careful :)
    In top search type; autoComplete
    look for this line:-
    mail.autoComplete.highlightNonMatches; Value = 'True'
Double click on that line to toggle the 'True' to 'False'
Then close window - top right X
click on OK to save changes to Options.
    Close and restart Thunderbird.

  • Mail in Mavericks not replacing existing mail with same name

Mail in Mavericks not replacing existing mail with same name.
    Thanks

I have the same situation as you - sending out pdfs of designed pages and wanting to overwrite them continually. It used to happen on an older version of Mail, then it disappeared and now it's back with the latest version.
It's more than annoying, it's downright driving me nuts. In the last hour I had to quit Mail seven times.
Please send a fix for this Apple.

I purchased an iPhone 4s in Paris a month ago and I lost the receipt Is it possible to receive a receipt by e-mail in my name?

You purchased a "hacked" iPhone(hacked to unlock it) from a non-official source for iPhones. Unfortunately, that's the risk you take when you purchase from a non-official source. There is no way to get your phone officially unlocked, & all warranty & support has been voided. Sorry, but you don't have any good choices here. Your best bet is to go back to Carrefour Supermarket & get your money back, then purchase an iPhone from an official source. If they won't give you your money back, have them "fix" your phone...they will have to "hack" it again. Good luck.

  • Mac Mail Wrong Display Name

My Mac mail app for my icloud account has the wrong display name for the account.  About three years ago, I bought my mac on the company credit card, and had to use our accounting director's name for the billing address.  (We'll call him Richard Nicks).  Three years later, I open Mac mail and HIS name is the display name for my icloud email!
Of course it's grayed out, so I have to change it in the icloud account.  But when I go log into icloud, his name does not show up anywhere.  I've confirmed the email addresses are all the same so I know I don't have multiple accounts or anything.  I've closed mail, resynchronized it, rebuilt the database, no joy.  Where in the world is it getting his name from and how can I change that?
    Thanks
    OS X 10.9.5

    Thanks for the response.
In Account Preferences, the name and email address are grayed out so I cannot change those.
I looked in my contacts, go under All iCloud, and there's only one contact.  The picture is of a piano that says Me, so I assume that is my Me card.  This has my correct name.
Interesting to note, when I send an email from iCloud on my iPhone, it comes across with the correct display name.
I'm at a loss on where else to check.  Thanks for the help!

  • Mail Changing Attachment Names

Does anyone find that their Mac Mail changes attachment names into something like ??Q?documentname?=? so you are unable to open them unless you rename and save?
I think I have narrowed it down to only happening with attachments that have a long(ish!) filename.  It only happens when a Mac computer recieves.  Doesn't matter if a Mac or Windows machine sends the mail.
Any help appreciated as 50% of my attachments are coming through in this format.  V frustrating!

Are you sure your RECEIVING email client isn't doing the conversion?
    Thank you for the help.
It wasn't actually the email client at the other end, but rather a third-party photo app on my iPad - Photogene.
I had been sending the screenshot as an email attachment from within Photogene. It seems that this app was converting it to the JPEG format. When I simply chose the image from the Camera Roll - directly in the Mail app - the PNG format was kept.
    Thanks again.

  • How do I type a recipient's name, rather than thei...

    Hi,
I purchased an E72 a couple of months ago. When I first started to use it, if I wanted to send an sms, I had to either type in the number of the recipient or go into my list of contacts and select one from the list. Somehow I must have worked out how to change this so that I could type in the first couple of letters of the recipient's name into the recipient field in the message (without having to go into the whole contact list).
However, my phone froze a couple of times and I had its software updated. As a result, it was put back to factory settings and now I am back to square one with the messaging.
So: does anyone know what I have to do so that I am able to just type a few letters into the recipient field in a text message, then when I press send it automatically finds the recipient's number?
    THANK YOU!

    This is nokia's default property.
You just create message by default u will see that " to " feild take alphabets.
where u just write few alphabets of person name it will automatically fetch the contact .
if multiple entries would be there then mobile will list u names.
if multiple numbers are there in the contact it will ask u on which number u want to sent text.

  • HT1338 Problem with MAIL, when select names that start with "E" the mail freeze. Can't fix it.

Problem with MAIL, when select names that start with "E" the mail freeze. Can't fix it.

Now I checked the materials that I got from AT&T Yahoo and
port 25 is used as the outgoing mail port, 110 for incoming.
This is for the POP type account provided by AT&T, not necessarily for an email account and SMTP server not provided by AT&T.
Sounds like AT&T blocks using an SMTP server that is outside of their network or not provided by AT&T on Port 25.
    Try the following first.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this doesn't work, we will go to plan B.

  • Why are people recieving my messages from my e-mail instead of just my name in their contact book?

When I send someone a message on iMessage, on their phone the name comes up as my email address instead of my name in their contact list, and it is seperate from the message that they sent me via imessage. How can I fix this?

Settings > Messages > Receive At > Caller ID.
What is selected as your iMessage Caller ID?
Is the email address selected for your Caller ID available as an email address for your contact info in the recipient's Contacts?
