Mail reduces image size when forwarding!?

When I forward an email (I use Mail - v6.6 on 10.8.5) the image in the email becomes reduced from 556KB to 20KB which renders it unusable when received.
Can anyone tell me where settings are to stop this happening? I want to forward full size, full res images.
Many thanks in advance for any help offered.

Found the answer! In Mail, at top right hand side of the message pane, there's a little drop down menu for 'Image Size'. Once you set it, it stays at that setting until you change it. It'll then stay at the setting you've changed it to until you decide to change it again. See images attached.
Let me know how if it works for you.

  • Is there any options/addons for selecting/changing image size when viewing images?

When clicking to open images when on web pages there is no option to select size.
I'm looking at some pages that have images (mostly jpg) I like to compare and that is very hard when all images open in a size that normally fill most of the browser window.
So I wonder if there is some hidden options or addons for selecting image size when opening images for viewing?
I have tried Image resizer/scaler, image zoom and show picture with mix results. Image resizer/scaler and image zoom allow resizing of images, but when opening images on same tab as web page the white image "frame" that is visible when reducing image size is left in original size. This make viewing and opening other pages a hazard.
    I'm grateful for any help...cheers :-)

hehe no offense, but I'm not following the version rushing from Mozilla. I'm using many customizations and addons and it is a nightmare to change to a new version and practically impossible to use last version. Also the FIrefox history have shown that earlier versions have both been more stable and had better implementation of features.
Spending hours customizing and finding out that addons dont work with new version every time Firefox come with a new version , no thanks. For that to happen Firefox have to be more compatible across versions and more friendly toward customization in updates and new versions. I have used Firefox for at least 8-9 years with practically no security problems and one thing I have learned is: dont update or install next version if the version I have is working well.
Maybe I should have mentioned this in this question, that Im using v26 and that my FIrefox is heavily modified with addons and customizations.
    '''Back to the subject'''
Anyway I dont think any of my customizations or addons should create a white frame behind images, but I'm asking to find out if you guys also get this white frame when resizing pictures to a smaller size after clicking images for viewing.

  • How can I control the image size when I export form iphoto, the choice is too limited, I need to send a photo under 3 MB but if I choose high quaulity it is only 1.1 and i need to keep the best quaulity I can. Thanks for help.

How can I control the image size when I export form iphoto, the choice is too limited, I need to send a photo under 3 MB but if I choose high quaulity it is only 1.1 and i need to keep the best quaulity I can. Thanks for help.

Any image can only be as large as the Original. With a program like Photoshop you can UpRes an image and get it to a bigger size, larger files size as well, but the actual quality of the image will be degraded, depending on the UpRes system and the original quality of the image.
iPhoto is not the program to be doing that in and I don't think it even has that option.
So I suspect the image you are trying to send isn't much bigger than what you are getting. You can also try Exporting it from iPhoto to yopur desktop and see what size you end up with. If it is still that 209KB +/- file size then that is the size of the original image.

  • E-mailing photos without reducing image size

I have tried using the image size box in the message window (set at actual size) but still a 4MB photo in my aperture library is reduced to 400kB when I attach it to an e-mail. I'v spent far too long on this. Would appreciate help. Cheers.

How are you getting from Aperture to Mail?
Using File>Email from Within Aperture? This will reduce the pixel dimensions of the image according to the export preset chosen in Aperture's preferences.
Dragging an image from the Aperture window into an email, or using the media browser? This will use the Preview file, and the pixel dimensions will be constrained by your Preview settings in Aperture, and will cause problems for people who aren't using Apple Mail because the image will be in Adobe98 not sRGB.
Another question - what is the original file format? Even if the pixel dimensions are the same, 4MB to 0.4MB difference could be due to going from a TIFF or PSD to a JPEG.

  • Lightroom 2.5 Image Size When Printing

I have searched and tried several approaches, but cannot get LR to adjust an image size correctly when printing.
For example, I have a Lab Test Page tif image that has a document size of 23" W x 29" H and a resolution of 180 ppi.
I can use CSR 4 Image/Image Size to change this to 8" W x 10.5" H and a resolution of 320 ppi using resampling. The reduced image prints correctly in CSR 4 on 8.5" x 11" paper and results in .25" margins top and bottom. The same thing happens in LR 2.5 with the size reduced image.
However, if I try to print the original image using LR 2.5 to automatically resize the image it does not work correctly. I have tried all sorts of combinations of settings to get it to reduce the image (as is done in CSR 4) and print with .25" top/bottom margins without success. The image fails to resize correctly.
Is this a bug, a feature??, or operator error? Can anyone tell how to make LR 2.5 automatically resize so it prints correctly? I have tested this on other computers with the same results.
    Thanks

    Go to print module.
    Select Print to jpg.
Set the resolution at 180 ppi.
Other output settings, sharpening, paper profile as required.
Set the margin sizes as required.
Set the cell size to the size of the image
Set the Custom File Dimensions to the size of the paper...29" x 23" in this case.
You can drag the Cell size and the various borders around until you get exactly the lay out on paper you require. Then when finished hit print to file, name the file and the job is done.
If you want to print a a different size, with a different resolution, on different sized paper, with different borders all this can be done in the print module and it is WYSIWYG so no guess work (or calculations) involved. Using LR rather than PS for this also has the advantage of using much better algorithms for upsizing images than PS and applying output sharpening for the specific media type you intend to print to, all using the RAW data

  • Mail Signature: image size keeps changing to fit window

When adding a logo image to a signature in mail, the image is not remaining the same size, it changes in size semingly to fit the width of the window that the email happens to be in. Mostly the image is showing larger than the window itself. We are having this problem on imac (snow leopard) and brand new macbook pro (mountain lion). I have tried using PNG and JPEG files but both have the same problem. Older signatures (2 years old) show the image correctly keeping it the same size. Any advice muchly appreciated : )

I worked it out in the end - I had 2 things too big in my image settings; the canvas size (which was 14cm long!) and he DPI (which was 300dpi) I have since changed to approx 8cm long and 100DPI and it now displays the logo in the signature without increasing the size of it to fit the size of the window. My only issue now is trying to get the image to still show in the reply thread, so that when you look down the email conversation you can see the logo in each of the previous email signatures. This one is stumping me!

  • HT2500 why does mail reduce a jpeg when I place it as an attachment

When I attach a jpeg to mail, it reduces the size automatically. Why? I attached a 838 KB to a mail and it reduced it to 33 KB. Why?

Select the attachment then look on the right side of the menu bar just above the e-mail body.

  • How to reduce image size on account of disk space shortage?

I import images from my camera to iPhoto on my MacBook. I want to reduce their size on import because hard disk space on MacBook is limited.
Is there any smart way how to perform it? I have not found any presets on Import dialog to reduce size.

If the photos are important then get an external FW hard drive and move the library to it and operate from there. Delete the library from your MacBook.
Next create a new library on the MB and copy only the photos that you have an immediate need for from the external library with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. It will copy the metadata, keywords, faces, places, and edited versions between libraries. You will a lean, mean travelin' library for the MB.
You you add photos to the library on the MB while you're on the road you can copy them to the main library in the same manner with iPLM when you get back home.

  • How to reduce file size when using batch processing?

I use File > Process Multiple Files to batch process photos to a smaller file size along with adding my watermark.  I've played with many different settings and no matter what I choose, I can't get my average file size to be less than about 200k.  However, when I've exported the same photos using iPhoto, I can get the file size to about half of that with no difference (to my naked eye at least) in quality.
I definitely want to keep the height at 768 pixels so that needs to stay constant.
My current settings in batch processing (average file size = 200 kb)
Resize images with a height constraint of 768 pixels at 150dpi
    What I've tried:
Resize at 72dpi (reduced file size by about 5kb)
convert file to JPEG low quality (reduced file size by about 10kb)
convert file to JPEG medium quality (not much difference in file size)
I'm using PSE 10 on a Mac running Lion.
Thank you in advance for your help!

You should go with default settings of Optimizer.
One difference between default settings of Optimizer and Reduce file size is that Optimizer does not guarantee a reduction in file size (if your Optimizer settings lead to an increase in file size, that's what you will get).
With Acrobat 9, the default setting in Optimizer has an additional setting which would not do an image optimization that results in increase of file size. In that sense it would in most cases give a smaller file.

  • Reduce image size in pages by cropping ??

    Hello,
I created a pages document with a lot of masked images in it. the resulting pdf file is massive. As described in the Pages manual, I tried the reduce the image file size (format menu) and the document file size (file menu). But instead of reducing the size by deleting the the parts of the images that are covered by the mask (as written in the manual), it reduces the image resolution, which I don't want.
Question: How can I reduce the image file size by cropping and not by reducing the resolution.
I learnt a lot today in other forums on how to edit quartz filters, so I know how to manipulate resolution afterwards for pdf's for mail and print. Cropping images before inserting them into Pages I don't find a real option. Thank's for yor help.

I reported it to Apple via the feedback button. I also added a little wishlist for the next version.
I think if Pages would crop the excess parts of an image covered by a mask during the pdf export would solve the problem already because imho these not visible parts are often the reason for the massive pdf file sizes. The images are completely embedded and masked in pdf's.
Does anybody know a pdf tool that does that? I tried PDFshrink and PDFpen so far, but they both don't.
Would also be cool to have an Automator action that adjusts resolution via edited quartz filters and crops the invisible stuff off ...

  • Reducing image size in I photo 7

I am trying to reduce the size of images in iphoto. I tried to export, but the function is greyed out an inaccessible. I tried turning off any 3rd party plug in's as suggested on another post, but that didn't work.
the export function appears available from the top of the event menu, but when I click it, nothing happens. Help! How do I reduce file sizes?

    gahpgirl:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When exporting select the format to jpg instead of Current or Original. Then you'll be able to set the quality level which will reduce the file size without affecting the picture size, i.e. pixel dimensions.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • REDUCING IMAGE SIZE - PNGOUT Vs BINCOMPILER

    Dear all,
I reduced the size of the images using 'PNGOUT' (An application used to reduce the size of the images). After that the total size of the images is 26.2KB.
Then I converted that images (output of PNGOUT) into one binary file using 'BinCompiler' (a software used to create binary file). Now the size of that binary file is 26.3KB.
I don't know the reason for that. i thought, when using BinCompiler the size of the jar will be more reduced. But it is same. Another one thing, when inputing obfuscated images(output of PNGOUT) to BinCompiler, the size of the the binary file is almost same. But when inputing original images(not obfuscated), the size of binary file is reduced around 10KB.
Please explain me, why this is happening like this and what is efficient in game development , PNGOUT, BinCompiler, or both? PLEASE INFORM ME.

Thank you Doug.  The comments on extensive uniform blue sky vs. marked variation in color seem well taken, I'll keep this method of choosing in mind.  My goal is to create a JPG family photo archive of the highest quality images that I can make for future use by non-technical descendants (thus it will supplement the TIF archive that holds the best quality versions of the same images but that may not be usable to novices).  As I cannot anticipate exactly how the JPGs will be used, I just want them to be the best possible, while still being of a size that can be uploaded to, say, Costco (5 MB size limit) for making enlargements.
In general, I am often left curious as to how exactly Photoshop carries out its algorithms and how different factors influence the outcome.  So often, one read "just try different techniques and see what looks the best".  But I am always left wondering, what is the theory behind this and has it been systematically studied and worked out and published.  In so many disciplines, such as medicine, the methods of optimization has been evaluated, systematized, and fully described.  I have not yet explored what may be found in technical journals, but I'm sure much of this good stuff must be available somewhere. It would be nice to have a "How Things Work" that actually explains what Photoshop is doing under the hood.
    Thanks again.

  • Reducing image size with Preview?

I notice that Preview's "adjust size" option can considerably reduce the size of some images i got from internet. For instance, with a 366 KB JPEG image, after clicking on adjust size, there would be a line at the bottom of the window that says: 101 KB (was 366 KB). And i know this new smaller sized image has the same quality as the original because when i compare both images at maximum zoom, i see no difference in the size, color or position of the pixels. So, does anyone know how this size reduction method can be applied simultaneously to many images or to an entire folder? Or do you know any software (preferably free) that does something similar without quality loss?
    Thanks in advance

Then change the subsampling rate or turn it off in the PDF Optimizer.  But realize that in doing so you trade the quality for a larger size.

  • Reducing image size without reducing quality

    Hello all.
I'm trying to learn if there is a way to reduce the size of an image in Pages without reducing the quality.  It seems that when I use the built-in command from the file menu or by control-clicking on an image, the images go soft after the reduction.  There has to be a way to keep the photos sharp without having them take up so much space.  Any tips out there?

Best is to take the original images into Preview and:
1 Crop them to the view in Pages
    2. Decide what resolution you want for the final size in Pages:
    300dpi for good quality printing
150 dpi for good quality screen appearance
72 dpi for bare minimum screen appearance
    3. If they are color photo like images, save them as .jpeg with as much quality loss as you you can tolerate
    4. If they are flat areas of color or black and white save them as compressed .tiffs
After cropping and compression bring them back into Pages and use no compression there at all.

  • Reducing Image Size Problem

I am trying to reduce the size of an image for a friend, however when she prints the image out is is coming out as an 8x10. In Elements 6 I have the rulers up, and I have done "Image->Resize->Image Size" and have adjusted the width to be 2.5 inches and the height automatically adjusts to 1.8 inches, which is perfect for the frame my friend has, and then I click ok. I have the "rulers" on in the editor, and I can see on the screen that the image is now in fact 2.5 x 1.8 inches.
Does anyone have any suggestion as to what I may be doing wrong? Thanks!

You need to set the resolution field to 300, and then make sure
"resample" is checked at the bottom of the screen. Then, Save As a new
file - maybe FileName-2x1.jpg, and see if that doesn't do it. If you
don't resample, it is just changing the display of the pixels, not
    really removing them.
