Mail refuses to download attachments to where I want them.

Although I've set Mail to download attachments to my desktop, it refuses to do this and downloads them into a thing called "Mail Downloads" in my Library folder.
What am I doing wrong here?

Can you please provide guidance on where the Mail Downloads folder is actually located? I'm now running Mail (v 5.3) on a new MBA under Lion 10.7.4 - but am totally unable to find that folder.

A friend of mine started to work with Apple Mail but he has found an option he wishes to remove: the "automatic downloads attachments size".
He wants that ALL email's attachment are downloaded without click on it ( if they are big...)

In Mail>Prefreences>Accounts>Advanced he should uncheck "Prompt me to skip messages..."

I even tried deleting iMovie, bought a new copy and installed it, but the folder "iPhoto Videos" is still there and I can't get new clips loaded to iMovie, especially where I want them. Please help.

The iPhoto Videos do occasionally have problems. I've seen a lot of people write messages to this Discussion group describing similar problems. The only thing that seems to get around this problem is to pull the video clips out of iPhoto then import them directly into iMovie. Once the troubles with iPhoto Videos starts, I haven't yet seen anyone write back with something that they did to fix it.
The most difficult part of doing this is the movies in iPhoto might be a little difficult to track down. But you can create a smart alum that does that for you. Go to iPhoto > File Menu > New Smart Album:
Set the first pulldown menu to keyword, second to contains, then in the last box type Movie with a capital 'M'. Then click OK. This smart album more or less does as search of the whole iPhoto Library and only displays items that match your search tearm of "Movie" exactly. In that smart album then you can find the original Movies you want to move out of iPhoto and into iMovie, <CTRL> click on the Movie clip, then choose Reveal in Finder. That will jump you out of iPhoto temporarily and into the iPhoto Library folder. From there you can move that movie file to the desktop. Move all the clips you want, once they're all collected up go to iMovie and go to the File Menu > Import Files. Then point it to the desktop where you moved your video clips.
This will put all those videos into an Event folder in iMovie and bypass iPhoto Videos altogether.

Once an item enters the download queue, the user cannot remove it. Either let it complete the download (easiest) or contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the Contact page and ask them if they'll remove the item(s) from your queue for you.

I did get a response via email from Support, and if it makes you feel any better, the Apple guy said he had the same problem himself with his downloads! He said he had passed his complaint "up the line" and suggested I fill out the form on the Feedback site. Maybe eventually they'll change it!

FCE won't let me add transitions where I want them

Final cut will only let me add transitions to some of the edit points in my project, and more times then not, they are not the points where I want it. There is plenty of video on both sides of the edit. Whats the problem?

Mail app stopped downloading attachments

All of a sudden I can't open pdf, doc, etc. attachments in my mail app on either my iphone or ipad. This only occurs in the Mail app. I downloaded the gmail app to get around this, but it's inconvenient. The mail app is so much better - when it works!
Anyone else having this issue?
All it does when I click on the attachment is pretend to open, then stop... or it will just blip like it's launching, then stop.
This is so frustrating!

By the way, my Mail App is version 5.3

Rename and save files where you want them?

I use Yahoo e-mail. When I use Explorer as the browser and I want to save an attachment, a dialogue box opens that allows me to rename the attachment and choose where to save it. When I use Safari as a browser, the attachment simply saves to the folder specified in Safari preferences. This is inconvenient as most often I need to rename attachments and save them to different places-- I don't want all of them in the same place, and I don't want to have to change my preferences for each e-mail. Does anyone know how to work around this?
By the way, I am currently using the public beta version of Safari-- this problem happened with previous versions as well. Also, I can control+click on attachment links and I get the dialogue box that would allow to rename and save to a different location BUT it only allows attachments to be saved as html-- this doesn't really help me as most attachments are doc or pdf.

The Yahoo attachment names are not editable - this is true for Safari and Firefox.
Right clicking does not let you save the attachment to another location. What you are seeing is a Save Panel for the web page itself.

Can no longer print reduced size pagess exactly where I want them on a sheet.

Using Firefox 18.0 on XP Pro SP3 (up-to-date as far as I know)
This problem began suddenly on or about 01/12/2013.
There may have been some auto updates. (Looking at dates on Program Files directories, I see Mozilla Firefox was changed 1/11/2013 at 0901, so this may be a new problem with 18.0.)
I for a couple years, I have been printing Sudoku puzzles at 70% or 80% reduction, setting margins in Page Setup, so that I can place the puzzle precisely where there is available white space on used paper of various sizes and in landscape or portrait orientation. Occasionally the result was not what I expected, but it always turned out that I had not set Page Setup parameters correctly, and easily resolved the problem. No longer.
I have found a trick to get Firefox to recognize and remember a selected or custom page size (such as Legal) from session to session which I make use of and may possibly be relevant.

I've been trying to do various tests, and now my results are a bit different:
Going off Candace's notes:
1) Doesn't work for me. This is what I used to do and want to do again: create a PDF from any application by clicking Print (eg, the Print link on web page) or pressing command-P. No file is created now.
2) I didn't even know this option existed. It worked for me, but I don't want to print my documents there. I want to be prompted for a name and folder of my choosing in the dialog box.
3) Oddly, this morning after reading Candace's response, I now only get prompted with one dialog box, not two. Again, I don't want to do this. I want it to work as before where after invoking Print I would be offered a dialog box asking me what to name the file and in which folder to create it.

HT1660 When I install itunes, the xml and media folders are placed on desktop not in my music folder on Vista where I want them to be

So I've installed and uninstalled itunes 3 times, using control panel to unintall everything, then ccleaner to make sure nothing is left over. No ipod service and stuff left.
Each time I install, the defult folder where the Media Folder, and album art folder plus all the xml and other files are put on my desk top.
Opening up Itunes, preferences, changed folder to user/music/itunes it doesn't work, keeps defaulting back to desktop. Help please

Good to hear you got it fixed. A common reason for this issue is a problem with security permissions. This is another approach that may help in such cases.
Repair Permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Securitytab and click Advanced. Use the Change Permissions... button grant to your account (or the Users group) and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to Replace permissions entries... which will repair permissions throughout the library. When complete switch to the General tab, click in the Read-only check box to clear it, then click Apply.
If you don't have the option to change the permissions then use the Owner tab and Edit... button to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges. Tick the option to Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Repeat with the media folder if it isn't stored inside the main iTunes folder.

Podcasts download when i don't want them to

When I sync my ipod, some (although not all) of my podcasts download onto the ipod even though I have not selected the "sync" setting for them. Can I stop this from happening? Can I delete those that have already downloaded?

This depends on you podcast settings. What are they set to for iTunes and on the iPod?

Any limitation on number of fill and print forms I can post on my website and have external users with Reader fill in, print and mail to me? (I don't need/want them to be able to fill and save data.)

I would like to post fillable only forms to the public but not give them the option to save or email the filled in form. If they want a copy of what they've filled in, they must print it.
I believe I can do this by just creating a fillable PDF and posting it without adding any reader extension capabilities. I also believe there is no limitation, as there is for fill and save forms as per this other post I read: Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Enable Reader users to save form data.
My IT department is telling me they will not allow me to post fillable PDFs online due to a "license limitation" so I started researching this myself, and the above link is the only thing I've found. While that post specifically outlines the limitations on saving filled in forms, I'm really looking for something that specifically tells me that there is no limitation on fillable, non-saveable (yes, I know that's not a word...) forms.
If anyone can provide additional information for me, I'd appreciate it. Or, if I'm completely wrong in my belief and there's a limitation either way, feel free to set me straight. I'd rather know the correct answer than be right!

If you don't Reader-enable a document, then there are no licensing restrictions involved. Note that Reader 11 and all versions of Acrobat are able to save non-enabled forms, unlike previous versions.
The question should not be whether a form is savable, but rather whether you used Acrobat to add usage rights to the form AND you (the licensee) plan on receiving filled-in instances (including hardcopies) of it. The simplest way is to not Reader-enable the form and convince your users to use Reader 11 (or Acrobat) if they want to save.

Comenting code - style - how to keep coments where you want them - without using sequences

Silly question maybe about style of commenting.
Basically i like to use sequence boxes to keep comments on my diagram beside the bits of code that they refere to - otherwise when you use diagram cleanup (which i'm afraid i use all the time) they go anywhere. This is good - except that i found especially when doing FPGA programming the sequence boxes reduce the amount of parralelism that can go on - since the 'box' needs to finish before any of the outputs can be used. Is there some other method i should be using instead of sequence boxes to keep text beside elements - without enforcing that a set of elements are fixed in one place?

I usually use labels of structures (loops, cases, etc) and labels of diagram constants, etc. for comments. In newer versions, we also have wire labels.

What is your LabVIEW version? Also the LabVIEW 2011 cleanup does a better job keeping diagram comments together with the related code compared to earlier version.

Mail will not download large (28 MB) attachment

I received a ~28 MB attachment -- a PowerPoint presentation -- which Mail refuses to download. It was sent from and received by my Exchange account which has handled ~50 MB attachments before, so no problem there.
More specifically, the server is running Exchange 2010. Mail connects via IMAP, and Connection Doctor reports no problems.
I was able to download the attachment from within webmail; that worked fine.
Rebuilding the inbox for the account in question does not help. The problem also persists within the institution's network as well as within my own home network.
Mail > Window > Activity simply shows "Downloading attachment" which never completes or seems to progress. Activity Monitor > Network shows minimal, sporadic data transfer -- on the order of ~10 KB/s.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? I've had attachment issues before -- like how Mail will occasionally, rarely, not recognize all attachments attached to a message -- but this is silly.

Well since no one replied... I tried a number of things further and nothing worked.
I ended up needing to delete the account and then add it again new.
This worked just fine albeit slightly annoying since I cannot really understand why it happened.

Apple Mail does not download pop3 after 9 March

From 9 March my Apple Mail refuses to download email from a POP3 connection. I use a MacBook air running 10.10.2. Without any success I have tried the following:
restored from TM backup prior to 9 March - get mail seems to perform correctly but no more emails appear
erase disk and perform full factory install of Yosemite - then setup mail account - all emails up to 9 March reload from server but nothing after
worked with ISP L2 tech for many hours - they are stumped
setup new user on my wife's iMac - this has not had the 9 March security updates applied yet - set up new email accounts - same result with email not being downloaded from 9 March
set up Mulberry and Thunderbird email clients - same result with email not being downloaded from 9 March
tried accessing from work network (MBA is recognised under BYOD settings) that worked perfectly prior to 9/3 but now has same problem - this to prove that ISP connection at home not problem
However emails since 9 March are visible using webmail. Equally emails sent today to this account appear in webmail but not in the Apple client.
I have two pop3 accounts to the same ISP linked to the same account - using the other email address to the same ISP - no problems at all!!
In looking at logs created by Connection Doctor nothing comes up in the All Messages view. But looking at the SocketStremEvents.log the following error messages are shown:

In looking at Accounts.plist (in ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData) I note that there are two different settings for the key "UserAllowsInsecureAuthentication" across the two accounts. One is set to false and one to true. my ISP does not use encryption only authentication on POP3 and no authentication on smtp. I have tried setting this to true in both cases but this makes no difference.

Needless to say I am stumped. I cannot understand why one email address with a different username but to the same ISP exhibits the problem but not the other.

I have found a fix - delete all the emails using the webmail account. Obviously there was something in one of the emails that was generating an error somewhere - whether on the client or server I am no closer to knowing.
But once all emails were deleted, then test messages started flowing.
Now why didn't I try that a week ago. Ho hum!
