Mail refuses to load after Lion.

Tried loading Mail and got dialog that said I needed to upgrade Mail messages etc. Started upgrading database then quits. In trying to reload I get a "Restore Windows" dialog that just results in spinning beach ball.
Mac Pro Mac OS X 10.7

Similar problem here too. Allowed Mail to upgrade messages and then it failed to show the message viewer after it completed.
I quit Mail. Restarted it. The application menu bar appears, but when I click on Window, Message Viewer, the message viewer doesn't appear. I've checked my spaces and can't see the main message viewer anywhere.
If I click on File, New Message, however, a new message window does appear. But if I click on File, New Viewer Window, the spinning beachball appears, Mail hangs, and I have to force quit.
I tried rebooting - that didn't help either.
Good job I have Sparrow Mail installed as a backup client.

  • MAIL failure to load after Lion upgrade - can't migrate data

I've posted information in a different forum, but I think that thread is dead so I wanted to post a fresh issue.
    Here's the older post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16615578#16615578
Bascially, Mail won't migrate my data and it crashes before fully loading.
    Summary from other thread:
    - mail finishes inporting messages but then crashes when it hits the migration stage
    - same issue after a fresh install and as a fully updated version
    - did resert PRAM
    - tried tossing Envelope files
    - tried tossing V folder
    - I tried one work around to test it and it worked, but it's a BAD alternative. I can move my Mail folder out of my library and re-open Mail. This starts with a clean slate. I added my Exchange/IMAP account to test. I'm sure I can import mailboxes one at a time. But I tried moving my signatures and that doesn't work. I may to do this option, but I'm worried that I will lose all the rules I developed over the last 6-7 years (approx?) adn signatures for each account.
    - error log is on the link above
I would appreciate some help on this issue before I manually add all my emails. I have 140,000 emails in many folders from the last 10 years and it's not something I want to lose or have disorganize (including rules/signatures).

    Problem Solved!
One of my mailboxes must have been corrupt in the migration phase or have some bad data.
Here's what I did to fix my Mail:
    - all mail messages loading, but then it crashed during migration. This stage of the installation means that the "Envelope Index" file completes writing and a "V2-Temp.noindex" folder is created. This folder is used to build the mailbox environment.
    - I checked the V2temp folder to see what transfered before crash and found that one of my old IMAP accounts was only halfed transferred in the temp folder.
    - I tossed Envelope Index (and other "Envelope" named files) and V2-Temp.noindex into the trash
    - I tossed the problem IMAP folder in the trash too (well actually to the desktop)
    - I tossed out all the CalDAV crap.
    - I relaunched and the folders, emails, signatures, rules, accounts all migrated properly after the mail databasr was imported to the new folder "V2"!
    - A "Mail Lost+Found" folder was also created that I havent investigated yet.
    Coming up next:
    - a full backup of Mail!

  • Imovie 08 refuses to load after upgrading to Leopard

I got Leopard for christmas and after upgrading imovie worked fine until I upgraded to imovie 08 with ilife. Now it refuses to load after it bounces it just stops and acts like as if I didn't even do anything. I've tried disk utility, and a bunch of other stuggestions but it dfidn't work.

Yes I did all of them. All of them appear to load except for imovie. and I did the installment of ilife 08. For some reason a folder appeared for the older version of imovie and that works fine even though i installed iLife 08, it suddenly made a folder today saying imovie (old version).
I don't get why it is doing that when the others work just fine.
Yes the display options are correct
The only one I know of is the divx codec I believe that is it.

  • MacBook Pro refuses to load after installing Yosemite OS X.

Yesterday I installed Yosemite OS X. Today, when I turned my MacBook Pro the loading bar is stuck just a little before halfway and refuses to load. I am so annoyed as I have never encountered any technical difficulties and have only had to purchase ridiculous amounts of expensive chargers after the ones I previously had broke easily - another annoyance of Apple. Apple is beginning to irritate me.
Any advice is appreciated - thanks in advance!

  • Mail crash on startup after Lion upgrade (with my solution)

    Hello,
I'm sure others will run in to the same scare I did when my mail would crash on startup after upgrading to Lion so I thought I would post my solution. It turns out a new mail app is installed with Lion but I had moved my previous mail app to a sub folder in my applications directory. After the upgrade the old version was not updated but the new version of Mail was installed in the Application root directory. Since my mail doc icon was still linked to my old Mail app it was crashing on startup. I deleted my old mail app, clicked on the new Mail app that was installed in my Application root directory, let the mail database update and all seems well now.
This is the second time I have been bitten by moving my Applications around. I have had a similar issue with iWork, and iPhoto. I guess the lesson is to leave your apps in your Application root directory.
    Hope this helps someone else.

That you can create a new user and it works for them suggests it's some sort of corruption in your user profile.

If the printer is connected to the Mac via USB cable and you do not see it in the Default Add Printer view when you try to add it, then it could be the USB cable at fault. So if you have another USB printer cable then try this.
If the Mac still fails to see the HP then open System Information (Applications > Utilties) and in the left column, select the USB entry. The top right pane will show all the USB connections in your Mac. The HP should be visible in this list.
If the printer is not connecting to the Mac via USB but via wireless, then I believe for HP you do have to rely on the HP Software to add a network printer. So maybe check their web site for a later version of this network utility, as the one that came with the printer is probably not compatible with 10.8.

  • Why App refused to load after entering correct password?

I have just renewed password to > 8 characters with mixture of upper lower  cases letter and numericals but app refused to load with prompt says unknown error.
    What is wrong ?

Sorry. That wasn't clear to me in you post.
Did you sign out of the account, restart and then sign in again as suggested. All that you said was the reboot didn't work. You didn't mention that you did sign out. That might be what makes this work.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart and then sign in again.
Did you do it that way?

  • Mail struggles to load after ios 8

Anybody elses email struggling to load after ios 8 upgrade?

    Hi ..
It's working fine on iOS 8 here.
    Try a reset.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • Mail won't send after Lion upgrade and AT&T won't help

I upgraded my new MBP to Lion and now I can't send mail if I'm on my network at home. After looking at other threads (like this one: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3192956) and based on the symptoms I'm having, I think the problem is likely an AT&T problem. When I use the Lion laptop on a different network, mail works and I can send mail with no problems. That suggests to me that the network is the issue.
I called AT&T to tell them this and they feel everything is working on their end so it must be my email client. They want to charge me to talk to tech support because I'm using an email client instead of their web interface.
Does anyone using AT&T have the same problem? Does anybody know how you get through to a big company like AT&T who isn't listening?

    Hey Kerry,
Believe it or not, sending mail from home seems to now be working for me. The strange thing is that when I made the change I'll tell you about, it didn't work at first, but now it does. The only explanation I can think of is that I've rebooted my machine since I made the change and that seems to have made the difference.
Anyway, here's what I did. In Mail, go to File > Preferences > Accounts. Now, select the account in the left pane if it isn't already selected. In the main pane at the bottom you should see an option for TLS Certificate. Mine had 'None' selected so I opened the combo box and saw there was a certificate I could choose (just a big long string of numbers and letters). I chose that, saved my changes, and that was it.
Like I said, nothing changed immediately after I did this yesterday. But this morning, I can now send mail. So either this change (and a reboot) fixed the problem for me or coincidentally AT&T fixed the issue on their side - I don't know.
Give this a shot and let me know what happens.
    Jim

  • Mail won't send after lion upgrade

I've an account on me.com and after upgrading to lion mail app doesnt not send mails. All account settings are correct. Any solutions?
Or i should to wait until the next update?

  • Mail still not loading after Mavericks update

I've been waiting for an update to Mavericks because I hadn't been able to launch Mail since upgrading from Snow Leopard.  (I use several Gmail accounts and the "All Mail" trick suggested a couple weeks ago didn't apply to me.)  So, yesterday I downloaded the new version.  Unfortunately, the same thing is happening; when I click on Mail, a series of information windows open - "Upgrading your Mail database…", "Identifying message conversations…", "Optimizing your Mail database…" - and then whatever window is displayed at the moment disappears and nothing else happens.  Mail does NOT open.  Still.  I can't use an OS if it doesn't support an e-mail program.
Are others still locked out of Mail in Mavericks?  More importantly, does anyone have a fix?  Is Apple still working on bugs in this program?  If not, I'm stuck at 10.6.8.

To see your user library, either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command
and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I have to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Mail font not loading after OSX upgrade

The recipient header name font isn't loading properly in the main pane, even though the same font is used within the message. It's impossible to see who the message is from as it is showing as unicode random letters and numbers. If I click on the message the name shows fine. Help!

    Hi Tom
Thanks so much for responding. I have done a safe reboot and it seems to have fixed the problem, whatever it was?!

  • Mail fails to open after OS X upgrade

Having recently upgrade to OS X, when I click on the Mail App, it open saying something about "upgrading existing emails...", the box then closes and nothing happens. It does this every time I try to open Mail. I've deleted my gmail account profile through System and rebooted, but no joy. Any other advice out there? Please.

  • Some ,mail messages won't load after migrating to Lion

I've migrated Mail from Snow Leopard to Lion on a new computer but from time to time some messages won't load. It's a real pain because I only dicover it when I go to read a message I want to read. Anyone have any ideas?

Mail, the application, should not cannot contain any message data assets. The Mail application must sit in the Applications folder, and be usable to every User Account on the Mac, and not just yours (understand you might be the only user, but making a point).
Mail, the folder of data for just your emails, should properly be at Home/Library/Mail.
Let me ask again -- in the Applications folder is there an Icon for Mail, and is it the Icon of a postage stamp, or is it perhaps the Icon of a folder?
However, let me note, that now that I have booted back into Snow Leopard, and used Get Info on the Mail Icon in the Applications folder, it is reported to be 77.5 MB! Looking at it from other boot volume (Leopard) does not see all the elements of its "package" apparently. My apologies.
Now it is time for a different test -- Create a New User Account, and as that New User launch Mail and try setting up one new email account - if POP select to leave messages on the server. See the following if not familiar with adding a new user account:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
The reason for doing this is to test the Mail app itself, and not to permanently switch to a new user account. Tell me if the behavior continues in that New User Account with Mail?

  • Ever since i downloaded OSX Mountain Lion, Express VPN no longer works properly for me. Even though it says I am connected, webpages refuse to load. However, everything works fine when its turned off. I cannot go on many websites without the VPN.

Ever since i downloaded OSX Mountain Lion, Express VPN no longer works properly for me. Even though it says I am connected, webpages refuse to load. However, connection speed is fine when its turned off. I cannot go on many websites without the VPN. My current location is Shanghai, China. OSX Mountain was installed this morning and everything worked fine until then. Is Express VPN not supported? What do i need to do in order to get it working again on my Macbook Pro (early 2011). I want to be able to go on websites such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, ect...

    Hi,
I am having the same issue listed above on my new Mac Mini i just bought, I also contacted Express VPN support and got the same instructions with exception of the command to run in the utilities terminal.  I tried the steps listed, and both commands (posted here, and sent to me directly by Express VPN support), and still unable to connect on my Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.2, but I am able to connect on my iPad and my MacBook which is running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  Usually Express VPN is spot on with their customer support, but this is taking longer to get resolved.  Here is the steps sent to me
Try doing the following to see if the problem gets resolved:
Please follow the instructions here: https://www.expressvpn.org/support/setting_dns_servers_mac_os
(should still be the same for Lion) and then add the following DNS servers: 8.8.8.8 & 208.67.222.220. After adding the DNS servers, please do the following steps as well:
Note: If you're connecting to your ISP via a PPPoE connection, then set the DNS servers on the PPPoE connection itself and then restart your computer for the DNS settings to take effect.
    1. Click on Applications
    2. Click on Utilities
    3. Click on Terminal
    4. Type the following command (without the quotes): "sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder"
    5. Press enter and then try reconnecting to the VPN.
If you're still unable to connect, please send us in the latest log files.
Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.
