Mail rejected by server
When I try to send mail on my ipad today I get an error message: A copy has been placed in yur Outbox. The sender address was rejected by the server. This is first time I've received this error message. Shut down computer & iPad. Didn't help.
Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if it then works

If you are having trouble sending mail and all of the following are working properly:
Data connection
Wi-Fi connection
Cellular service
Then the issue probably lies with you SMTP server, even though these steps can be redundant i would try the Following:
1. Try toggling airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then turn it off-Test mail
2. Restard the phone-Test mail
3.If using wi-fi connection disconnect/reconnect(if it still doesnt work) try forget all network settings, then reconnect to the network once again.
4.If none of those work, depending on who you e-mail service provider is, it may be an issue with their servers and i would contact them to check. -

Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP with the Mail.app and if so, are you able to send messages with this account?
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below for the .Mac SMTP server.
What are your settings for the .Mac SMTP server including the SMTP server address? -

Hopefully SOLVED - I had same problem on my iphone. Maybe these couple hidden settings are not quite same on your Ipad?
On the iphone i went Settings>Mail, contacts calanders>choose relevant account (if you have more than 1)> accountname>accountname> scroll down to 'Outgoing Mail server' and click on SMTP >click on your Primary Server >
My Username and Password were showing 'Optional'. Filled them in with the correct details (email account login) and that fixed problem. -

On the email account's settings (Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and tapping on the account on the right), go into it's outgoing SMTP settings and try putting in your email name and password (they might currently show as 'optional')

How can I adjust iPad settings when I get message, "Sender rejected by server"?
I have recently had difficulty sending and receiving mail on my iPad, but not at the same time! This was NOT the case for the first 8 months I had my iPad. I changed nothing but suddenly (Oct 6th, 2011) could not get my mail. Bellsouth said, "User name/or password is incorrect", but it was NOT. Thinking this was a Bellsout issues, I got some help from AT&T Tech support. Updates have been synced on laptop & iPad.
As of Oct 12, 2011, I can receive mail BUT I CANNOT SEND MAIL & I get a message saying, "...the sender address was rejected by server." This must be an iPad setting isuue b/c I can send and receive mail at the same address on my laptop.
I have verified all settings but need to know if there should be ONLY ONE OUTGOING SERVER TURNED ON (Primary Server) even though there are other SMTP servers listed that are not turned on. (There IS a notation that says, "If mail is unsuccessful using the primary server, it will try the other SMTP servers in succession." This is what makes me wonder if they should be turned ON or OFF.) Nothing seems to work. I humbly seek your enlightenment!! THANK YOU.It is seen when I connect cable from ipad to dekstop then I see the message as "Ipad is in recovery mode." How can be solved this problems ?

I set up my email the way the phone and iPad do. Very simple. It works most the time, but I am usually on wifi also. I ran into problem saying email was rejected by server, and it put email in my outbox. I looked in here to see if anyone had a good solution, then realized after reading the post I never actually checked my servers. My actual servers were different than the defaults that were set up. Example : the default server was mail.roadrunner.com, but the actual should be pop-server.roadrunner.com, and same for the smpt-server.roadrunner.com. Based on the ISP, must have the correct servers. But I was always able to send while on wifi. That part I did not understand. But since I fixed the servers, I have not seen any problem sending on either the iPad or iPhone. If you have not found fix, hope this may help if still having problem

What does it mean whenevr I try to reply to an email I get the following msg.......rejected by server because it does not allow relaying.
The Mail app first tries to send a message via the outgoing (SMPT) server associated with the account. It then tries the next outogoing server on the list for that mail account. Many mail providers do not allow sending mail from other than it own account. and the mail gets restured with the message that relaying is not allowed.. Tyu need to go to Settings>Maile> the sending account and check/correct the setting for the outgoing (SMPT) server for that account.

I have minimal [Read NO] understanding of how this all works so please bear that in mind.
Recently I have been trying to send emails from the Mail App on the iMac version 10.6.8. (I'm guessing that's snow leopard).
I keep getting the message: sender address rejected by server smtp.freeserve.co.uk.
I do not understand why this is happening.
My accounts and mail are all connected and logged in to the internet/server, there are no mistakes in my
email address or anything so I just don't understand what could possibly be going on.
Please help, I need possible problems (and explanations) and I definitely some possible solutions.

I have been unable to send mail all morning - I can receive mail, but when I try to reply or send a new message altogether, I get the error message "Sender address [email protected] rejected by server." I searched these forums and tried sending messages through my mail on mac.com, but that didn't work either.
I don't know if this is a widespread apple problem as the boards indicate has happened before, or the result of something i've done. last night, preparing to go on vacation, i attempted to set an "out of office" reply via preferences>rules. I did it wrong and ended up sending my auto reply to every existing message in my inbox (several hundred - some people got dozens of the auto response - very embarrasing as this is my business e-mail!). I deleted the "rule" to stop the process, but i don't know if that has something to do with my new problem. I'm working remotely and need my e-mail - please help!!!!!I tend to agree with Austin's explanation. One work-around might be to change your SMTP port from 25 to 587.
Another explanation is that by sending out all those mistaken replies yesterday that your are temporarily blocked as a spammer. Most ISPs (including Apple) put limits on the number of outgoing mail messages in a 24 hour period.
